The day my wife slept with my best friend, everything fell apart. There was only one person I could turn to – my teammate and secret desire, Trinity "Taz" Guerro.
We shared one passionate night, I woke up alone, without even a note on the dresser.
She called it a mistake. I called it a new beginning.
When my job put a target on her back, I had to come clean. With bad guys after her, a group of homegrown terrorists breathing down our necks, and all the secrets of our past staring us in the face, I wasn’t willing to go down without putting a damn ring on it…
I had the opportunity to alpha read this book when Molly was writing it and being able to read the final work makes it even more special. I've said it before and I'll say it again anything that Molly writes I will read and buy no questions ask.
There is just something about how Molly writes her characters that she makes you fall in love with them. She gives you the perfect amount of of plot, twists and very good and emotional sexy scenes. I love that she writes diverse characters and no damsels in distress.
If you are looking for a book that will have you swooning for the characters from the get go. Fantastic plot, Some good action. Interconnected stories. MMCs that are obsssed with their FMCs but will stand behind them because they know they can hold their own and they will watch their six, then you should give Mollys book a go, you will not be disappointed.
If you love 💫 Military Battle Buddies 💫 Special Forces 💫 Friends to Lovers 💫 Found Family
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ Stand Alone or Series: Mourningkill Series
This book was so dumb. I get super annoyed when you have a man who says how much he loves this woman who he's been in love with for years, how he waited for her to realize that it's always been him. meanwhile, he's been sleeping with everything that has a pulse and then getting mad about it because they weren't her..... instead of him telling her how he felt.
They've always been best friends, but they never crossed that line because he was married. After he finds out that his wife cheated on him, they hook up. And while he can blame her for not acknowledging the fact that they slept together because he was quote drunk, he could have Also let her know that he wasn't drunk enough to not remember the fact that they slept together.
I'm going to be honest I stopped reading after this and return the book back to Kindle unlimited because I just didn't want to deal with this I hope that the biker was her long lost dad but I really don't care about the rest of the story because their love story is supposed to be a major part of the book and their love story is just so freaking stupid .

What a great story, jammed pack with action, political intrigue, plot twists, found family, romance, spice and relatable characters!
I loved the dynamic between Kai and Taz - he is one super obsessed MMC and he is not afraid to show it! But Taz is no push over and is a feisty, no-nonsense FMC who can protect herself but also yearns for a life with someone who she can trust and build a life.
Their love story is primal and raw as they fall for each other (well Kai has already fallen long ago) and overcome all the obstacles like his family, her ex-husband, his job, her trust issues and everything in between.
I really enjoyed this book! Now, I do have to say that this is my first military romance and it did not disappoint! I really enjoyed Taz’s character and her backstory really gave the book an emotional edge to it. There were also some really good twists in the story that helped keep me invested in the story line. There are so many great characters throughout and I cannot wait for more stories related to ‘Lucky 13’.
There is a lot of world building and relations to other works by Molly Briar that I wish I had already read before this but I will definitely be catching up on those!
This was another of Molly Briar's books I had the pleasure of reading. The MMC Griff was a stalker, morally grey unhinged dude. I like that he knows what he wants and Taz is that, he is possessive and obsessed with her. So many emotions reading their story, I thought they deserved to be together which I wanted to happen from the beginning of the story. They had a difficult time getting to know and trust each other. So much personal info about themselves that they didn’t want to tell the other about. I like a man who is persistent and knows what he wants ana again Taz is who he wants and once they start trusting each other when theyare at their happiest. This book had everything you want in a book. I can’t wait to see what else Molly has up her sleeve.
This book had me not wanting to put it down and all the twists and turns!!!! I was not expecting that ending but absolutely loved it! Molly Briar definitely knows how to make you laugh, cry, have you on the edge of your seat, and really bring the spice! I can't wait to read the next book in this amazing series.
I can't even keep up with my favorite Molly books anymore. This was so good!! If I could give it more than 5 stars I would. I was so excited for this story because I love Taz and Griff's banter. After meeting them in Four Calling Birds I was so eager to jump into this. Sierra/Daria was such a fun character, love her. I love how there's still found family in this like Four Calling Birds. It always makes my heart melt. I can't wait for Cobra and Teri's story and this book wouldn't be complete without "Brett 'I have the worst fake name ever' Bradley."😂
Stop what you’re doing and pick up this book. So the first book was definitely good, but this one. Yes! So not only was there some GREAT smut scenes, but there also was total female empowerment on how multiple female characters are absolute badasses! But it also pulled the “touch her you die” into it as well. The tension between the main characters was super real and you were just rooting for them and constantly flipping the pages trying to get to the end to hear what happens. In amongst is some great plot lines with some military/operations action scenes. A very well rounded book!
Oh my, what a wild ride this was with Griff and Taz. I didn't know what exactly I got myself into with this book but I lived every minute of it. Taz an Sierra were at hoot when they first get to meet each other 😅.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶🌶🌶

As always, Molly did the damn thing! I think this is probably my favorite book by her to date. There was so much emotion put into each and every character and scene. I adored the dynamic that Taz and Griff had as friends and once she finally admitted to herself (and him) how she really felt. There was action, spice, and crazy plot twists that I didn’t even see coming! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Oh. My. Gosh!!!!! This was incredible!!!!!! I loved this so so much!!!!! It was great to see Taz and Griff get their story. There were so many different plot twists that were insane. I wish I could give it more than 5 stars. This was a masterpiece. I can't wait to read more!!!
I love getting lost in Molly's books. She has created such an amazing universe that intertwines so many of her characters and previous books that it literally comes to life as you read it. I loved Taz and Griff so much. Griffin dedication to breaking through Taz's walls while dealing with his own issues made them that much more real to me! As always I love all the plot twists and Brett freaking Bradley making his appearances because somehow he is ALWAYS connected.
fire for effect has so many moving parts and different elements. Taz and Giff made me giggle, their humour together is one of my favourite things about this book.
“I swear to God, you are dry humping my last nerve” “Baby, I’ll wet hump you all over this trailer”
I enjoyed the military/ secret service aspect of the book. It added an element of suspense that kept me Turing pages. Of course the chemistry between Taz and Griff didn’t hurt.
Fire for effect also had serious moments as well as both Taz and Griff had been through some shit. Things that can easily be applied to real life.
Now I need to go back and read the other books in the series.
Taz and Kia are freaking epic! She fights what she feels for him tooth and nail because she doesn't feel like she is worthy to be with him. But boy is she wrong. They complement each other is all the way, and he holds her up when she doesn't feel like she can anymore.
I had such a deep connection to Taz's character because she went through so much, and came out stronger on the other side. Yes she is scared that her past will come back and it continues to be a wall between her and Kia, but man does he work every second to prove to her that she is the one.
The banter between Taz and Kai is A+. They love eachother strongly while also not accepting it until Kai gets a divorce. Taz is a runner never one to stay. Her father left or so she has been told her entire life. She is running from and Abűsice ex and a man who wants to tie her to him. That'll happen when he finally comes calling. With exciting Plot Twists and what the heck moments. Be prepared to make Molly Briar your one click author!! Always one of my auto buy authors!!!
Listen!!!!! I have been WAITING for this book since I read Four Calling Birds!!!
Taz being the overly independent, sharp tongue individual she is, had my attention from the get go. She’s a take no $h!t kind of girl that has walls higher than skyscrapers and trust issues tackling in right behind that. Was she the first to fall?? No. But watching her let her walls down and become the character she is supposed to be was fan-freaking-tastic!!
Kai PHEWWWWW CHILD!!!!!! This man is unhinged, obsessive, possessive, just over the top wham bam thank you ma’am! He knew what he wanted and was going to stop at nothing to get what he wanted… her. Whether it is finding ways to break down every wall and barrier Taz puts up, to dealing with his family, Kai always finds a solution in order for things to work in his favor.
Now it wouldn’t be a Molly Briar book if there weren’t plot twists and turns that make your jaw hit the floor, and trust me, mine did!!!! Whether it’s having a character fight against every feeling they have for another character, or having certain character making numerous appearances Molly knows how to keep us on our toes.
I can’t wait to see what else Molly comes up with!! I’m hooked and need more!!!! Please!!!
Molly Briar’s Fire for Effect is a heart-pounding, high-stakes romance that expertly blends passion, danger, and redemption. From the moment the story begins, Briar pulls you into the tumultuous world of a man betrayed by his wife and best friend, whose only solace comes from the one woman he’s always secretly desired—Trinity "Taz" Guerro.
The chemistry between the main characters is off the charts. When they share a night of passion after everything falls apart, it’s intense, raw, and completely magnetic. Briar beautifully captures the complexity of their relationship—one that’s fueled by years of hidden emotions, desire, and unspoken tension. Taz’s decision to call it a "mistake" the morning after makes the situation even more gripping, as it sets the stage for a romance filled with push and pull.
What sets Fire for Effect apart from typical romance stories is its action-packed plot. Briar doesn’t just focus on the emotional turmoil of the characters—she throws them into a dangerous situation that forces them to confront their feelings head-on. With a target on Taz’s back, courtesy of a mission gone awry, and homegrown terrorists adding to the chaos, the stakes couldn’t be higher. The suspense is palpable, keeping you on the edge of your seat as the characters navigate both external and internal threats.
The male protagonist’s determination to not only protect Taz but also claim her as his own adds a layer of intensity to the story. His vulnerability shines through as he grapples with his past betrayal while trying to convince Taz that their night together wasn’t just a fleeting moment but the beginning of something real. Briar masterfully writes a character who is both tough and tender, willing to risk everything for the woman he loves.
Meanwhile, Taz is an incredibly strong heroine. She’s fiercely independent, and her reluctance to get involved with her teammate adds complexity to her character. You can’t help but root for her as she fights to stay in control of a situation where emotions and danger collide.
As the plot unfolds, the suspense builds in perfect tandem with the romance. Briar doesn’t hold back on the action, creating a thrilling blend of gunfire, secret missions, and close calls. The fast-paced, tension-filled moments are balanced by tender, emotional scenes between the leads, making the story all the more compelling.
Fire for Effect is a fiery, action-packed romance that delivers on all fronts. Briar strikes the perfect balance between heat and suspense, creating characters you’ll fall in love with while keeping you on the edge of your seat with every twist and turn. If you’re a fan of steamy military romances with a side of danger and deep emotional connection, this book is an absolute must-read.

𝑨𝑹𝑪 𝑹𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒆𝒘 Fire for Effect is book two in the MOURNING KILL series and can be read as a standalone. I’ve had the pleasure of reading another brilliant novel from MB. This story follows Taz and Griff through a second chance, friends to lovers, military action packed romance.
Right from the prologue, we get a taste of the overdue, emotional longing that the two MCs have suffered. It starts in a pure passionate, lust filled night. The thing they both have wanted for so long, but could not have due to their prior circumstances.
The story shows us that even though both parties are pining, one would like to think it was just a drunken haze, a mistake. Little do they know, that’s far from the truth and they can’t deny it for any longer.
I adore Taz ‘Pyro, Psycho, FIREFLY’. Her character is one bad ass MC, with such a strong spirit. A ‘warrior’ with the her unfortunate past. She will never let a man have the upper hand on her!
Kai ‘Agent Kilo, GRIFF’. Born and raised into a family of high expectations and steps to follow, arranged into a loveless marriage, finds himself in his teammate he always knew would always have his back and take a bullet for him. He needs her like the air he breathes and he won’t allow her to escape this time!
This book was amazing. I love military romance and this one is topping my list of favorites. Friends to lovers. Action packed. Plot twists. This is book 2 in the Mourningkill series but can be read as a standalone.
This book is well written and witty with great banter and chemistry between the main characters. Kai and Taz are perfect for each other, their friendship grounded with deep roots.
Their friends to lovers story is a bumpy ride of ups and downs with Kai a steadfast unbreakable wall in knowing what he wants, while Taz is less certain, troubled with intrusive thoughts brought on by her upbringing and the socioeconomic differences between her and Kai.
Molly gives a great backstory to these characters to create a complete look on why they are the way they are. I felt for Taz while rooting for Kai while rolling my eyes at the same time, haha.
The world building is top notch. These series Molly has touch each other, and we see characters interspersed throughout them, connecting them and creating this world of suspense, action, betrayal and love.
This was a joy to read and I can’t wait to see what comes next!
ALL THE STARS 5 ++ for Fire for Effect by Molly Briar
This is an Enemies to Lovers Military Romance ( MourningKill Book 2 )
A page turner of a read that I loved from the first chapter. This Is Kai and Taz’s story set in the world of Mourningkill.
I love nicknames & pet names ! Taz Trinity Guerro is also Firefly , Little Pyro , Psycho , Wifey among others. She has met more than she can handle with long time friend and teammate turned lover in Kai Griffith ( aka Griff )
He was a mansion - I was a trailer. This thought Taz has just seems to put them on the opposite end of the social spectrum. Yet it doesn’t matter one bit. There is an ex wife and an abusive ex husband in the mix but ultimately these two go thru a lot for their happily ever after.
What did I love :
Well written storyline - perfectly written A story that makes the reader feel all sorts of emotions AWESOME main characters as well as supportive secondary characters Chemistry that sizzles and combusts Hard fought happily ever after
I am also a big fan of symbolic gestures and Molly Briar just slayed my heart with the significance of the firefly bracelet and very unique - yet fitting engagement ring for Taz
Taz being the overly independent, sharp tongue individual she is, had my attention from the get go. I honestly related with her character more than any other character I’ve read recently. She has her walls ridiculously high and watching her let her walls down in order to become the woman she is at the end of the book is inspiring. It shows no matter what you go through there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel. Even an HEA if you’re willing to put the work in for it.
Kai!!!!!! We all love a good obsessive and possessive MMC. And to say that he is anything but would be asinine. Kai fell for Taz YEARS before this. It was an instant attraction that led him to do whatever he could just to have his eyes on her. He knew that he wanted Taz and wasn’t going to stop until she was his. Through literal trails and tribulations, he finally worked his butt off and through patience, and a whole lot of love, he was able to get the happily ever after he craved.
Molly has struck gold once more and I can’t wait to see where she takes this storyline!
This is #2 of the #MourningKill series and although it is a standalone, I think you'd have a better understanding of the characters and background story if you start with #1 of the series.
I loved the dynamics between the characters, and Sierra sounds hilarious. I hope she gets her own book as she definitely deserves one.
The story was action-packed with all sorts of twists and turns, as Molly is so good at doing, but I felt like I was missing something, e.g. Had Grif met Heath before, and if so, where and when? Why was her mum so horrid? It makes me wonder where all the money went, and I'd like to be a fly on the wall when Joe has a chat with Theresa!
I was also confused by Firefly when a Dragonfly is on the cover. Is the bracelet made of fireflies or dragonflies? Also, did Trinity take flight or plunge?
The #duetnarration by #MollyBriar and #JackHill was perfection, and I'd like to thank Molly for allowing me the pleasure of listening and reviewing her book. All opinions are my own.
Molly's characters make you fall in love with them. The plot twists, sexy scenes, packed with action, political intrigue, found family, and relatable characters!
I loved the banter between Kai and Taz. He is so obsessed and not afraid to show it. Taz is a badass, feisty, no-nonsense FMC who can protect herself but also wants a family.
This love story is intense as they fall for each other. Kai has already fallen long ago and overcome many obstacles like his family, her ex-husband, his job, her trust issues. Kai knows what he wants and again Taz is who he wants and once they start trusting each other when theyare at their happiest.
With a target on Taz’s back, courtesy of a mission gone wrong, homegrown terrorists making more trouble, the stakes got higher.
If you’re a fan of steamy military romances with somr danger and emotional connection, this book is an absolute must-read.
Molly and Jack Hill did a wonderful job with the narration. Thank you for the chance for ALC Review
Fire for Effect (Mourningkill Book 2) by Molly Briar is a military thriller novel. This author definitely writes amazing tales full of intrigue and romance. Once I started this book I was not able to put it down. The plot captures your attention and will not let go. I fell in love with both characters and found myself with my fingers crossed through out the book. I even enjoyed reading about the farm the MMC bought because I dream of hiding away from the world sometimes!
I really enjoyed getting to know both characters in this story. Learning their backstories and watching to see if their love was meant to be. Of course there was also much more in this story with loads of action, twists and turns you did not see coming.
I highly recommend this book. I thoroughly enjoyed it and can not wait for more.
Such an amazing story!! I’ve never read a Military book before and I’m glad this was my first one! It had details in everything, so if I didn’t know a term they used or something like that, it would right afterwards tell the reader a description of what it is or meant! I loved that! It helped me get more into the book. The Characters I loved! Taz and Giff always butted heads but they helped each other out. I was expecting more spice in it, but I got used to lots and lots of smut that I’m not used to a book being mostly story and not a lot of spice 😅🖤🫶🏻 But on the scenes that did come up they were kind of delicious 🤤🤤 I can say so much about this book but all you need to know is that I loved it! It’s really freaking good! And the story was Top Tier 👌🏼 If you like Military Books, I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND ❤️❤️❤️❤️
🔸 Special Forces 🔸 Small Town Romance 🔸 Found Family 🔸 A+ Banter 🔸 Friends to Lovers
This book is all military which is ok but not my trope of interest i guess. I am 100% for the military just not for me here. I think the writing was good, as was the storyline, but I was a little confused at the beginning of the books. My favorite character was Taz, she is a smart a$$ with great banter which was fun to read. This book was not as fast paced as I had hoped for the amount of chapters that there were. Overall the book was good, writing was good, characters were good/ok, and the spice was there. I do like Molly Briar's books as I have read a few which sucked me in. I do hope to read more of her work in the future. 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐'s
This was my first Molly Briar book. I enjoyed the story! Griff was an unhinged, stalkery MMC! He is possessive and knows that he wants Taz. Their journey had me anxious, heartbroken, laughing, and crying! I wanted them to get together so badly that I kept saying out loud, "Get it together already!" Taz and Griff had a very complex journey getting to know each other. There were things the both of them didn't know about each other. It's a good thing Griff was persistent with Taz; once her walls came down they could truly be happy! The story had action, adventure, heartbreak, great character development, mystery, and humor! The side characters were the best! I can't wait for more of the stories Molly has to tell about this group of friends!

Molly, this book is by far my favorite from this growing series. But Bruce is still the man!! #iykyk Trinity keeps her past hidden from everyone and will never put herself in that vulnerable position she did with her ex-husband, Heath. Her best friend is her teammate, Kai Griffith. They have served together multiple times and she even helped him recover after taking a hit for her. But lines get blurred for just one night until Kai wakes up alone. Until he reappears out of the blue to keep her safe. Kai Griffith is many things but disloyal he is not. His wife cheated on him with his own teammate and the only woman he sees now as his forever is Taz. But her past and status makes her doubt anything could come of it and she just leaves after that night together. Kai's feelings have never changed to the point of leaving her everything and power of attorney if anything were to ever happen to him. When she is threatened, he will do any and everything to keep her safe. I have been invested with these two since reading about them in Four Calling Birds. Their story is the true meaning of best friends to lovers. And lets not forget the other teammates and some new characters we meet. I enjoy the kind hearted and sarcastic banter between them all. Including the infamous Brett Bradley. Must read!!
