The story picks up a year and a half after the events of the first book in the Europea Halls series, and the author beautifully horrifies the reader with a whole new slasher story of a group of survivors put to the test once again. They are hunted by a hooded figure and the blood and terror is blindingly visual, a skill the author has perfected. Buckle up, everyone! There’s a crazy, off the rails trip to be had!

Oh my goodness! Alan Shivers does it again with his second slasher novel! If you like the 99’s slasher movies like Scream and I know What You Did Last Summer, you’ll like this book! First, you need to read the first book, Europea Halls, but what a read!

If you like the Scream franchise, then this book is your cup of tea.

It’s filled with action packed gore & thrill. I really enjoyed the new set of characters that were introduced and the twist was actually very unexpected. There are some scenes that are stretched a little too long, but it was still written really well.

Overall rating is 3.5/5

Somewhere halfway through this novel there is a scene in which the remaining main characters of this novel discuss - like in the first installment of this series - what a slasher actually is and what tropes you can expect. This time they focus on how sequels are usually constructed:

- More deaths
- More gore
- New cast and old cast, and who will remain?

As in the first novel, Alan Shivers plays games with meta information and keeps the reader guessing until the last moment who is the killer and what the motives are. I will not go into details here, or name any names, to make sure that those who have not read the first or this second book yet will not be spoiled on who lives and who dies.

But, he has certainly kept his word in regards of what a sequel should be: more deaths, more gore, a new cast and part of the old cast ... and who will remain standing in the end?

As before, this novel should not be taken too seriously, but more in the vain of the over the top action slashers of the 90's. It is very self aware, it paints its world in broad strokes and is dialogue driven. This time the setting is Budapest, and next to the old cast we see a couple of newcomers from different places all over Europe. I liked that we had a couple of twins (Balasz and Szofi from Hungary) who were more fleshed out than the other three newcomers.

Again, I subtract half a point from my 4 star review for some of the action scenes who were sometimes so far-fetched that I wondered how the killer could show up so fast, would have knowledge they shouldn't have, and the logistics of it all. That does not take away from the fun though.

This novel is a quick read, and a very nice palate cleanser in between heavier, more emotional stuff. Looking forward to the last part of this trilogy :)

I got this because from the author as an ARC

Now the review.
This book made me feel things again like the first part of Europe halls.
The first view chapters had me horrified in like a couple of seconds. Also for the next few months you are not getting me in a sleeper train.

The story continues a year and half after the first book in the European halls book and it the way that the trauma and the way that character deal with them are very clearly set out in the first chapter.
But the motivations off the group to go to Budapest are the same as many European youth has to see the culture but mostly the culture of party. In this way they meet many other youths and the way that the new characters are introduced is a very realistic way as a person that meets lots off people in hostels every year.

I'm not a great horror/slasher movie watcher (better not at all) and I'm just starting to read Horror books this book was a great pleasure to read. Because of all the emotion I go through reading this book. Which I find is an always a pleasure when reading a book and I also I'm getting more surprised every time when. a new way is describe a way one of the charters is killed with a knife.

But the most important question do I want to read the next book? YES because I need to know more

The four survivors of the first book, Karel, his girlfriend Ingvild, Karla and her girlfriend Oliwia are on their way to Istanbul. They are all still dealing with the past in their own ways but are still a solid group of friends and they need a break. On the night train to Vienna filled with young people on their way to a festival, determined to start the party early, a hooded masked figure watches and waits.

This starts off full steam ahead and never lets up! The kills numerous and more brutal, the killer relentless and seemingly unstoppable. A pure adrenaline pumping slasher that will make you squeal with delight at the familiarity and next level gorefest.

The location is also a character in this story and I really enjoyed exploring Budapest with the characters. The LGBTQIA rep flows so easily through the story as does their reaction to trauma and how it has affected them. Although the 2nd in a trilogy this can be read as a standalone as their past is explained but why would you not read the first one, it’s brilliant too!

The story is an incredible homage to 90’s slashers, playing with the horror tropes, a sequel always ups the victims after all and this is a horrifying blood soaked race to survive! A sumptuous smorgasbord of slash 🔪

Thank you to the author for the e-arc, views are my own.

Very strong follow-up to Europea Halls!!! Tons of action, right from the beginning. It grabs you, pulls you in, and refuses to let go until the final page. And it STILL keeps you in its clutches!! I’m screaming for book 3!!!!

This chapter in the slasher series takes place on a survivor-group vacay, for those friends who survived the massacre at Europea Halls in Brussels in book 1. They are traveling to Budapest for a much needed reset - but that’s not exactly what happens. Get ready for a whole new set of slasher rules - and a whole new horror - in a beautiful new setting. The author gorgeously sets the scenes in many well known locales in Budapest, painting a stunning backdrop for all the blood spatter! Loved this read, highly recommend!!!

I was sent this book to ARC read before publication. I absolutely loved this book. Having read the first one, I can see the character development and the twists are great. The book shook me to my core, I was on edge to find out how it was al going to end. If you are into horror/slasher books, I highly recommend reading this book.

Europea Halls 2 is the second book in a planned slasher trilogy, and this one follows the survivors to Budapest as they look to relax and finally try to leave the past behind them. Dealing with the after-affects of what happened in Brussels, this book is at once an exploration of PTSD and the fight to take back their safety nets, and I enjoyed every conflicting aspect of that as they explored Budapest under a shadow of doom.

First of all, it is really difficult to talk about the main characters in this book as it gives away so much of the first book, so I will not be using names or identities. I really liked the exploration of the trauma the survivors were carrying as it would have seemed fake to do otherwise. One of the weaknesses of the first book was the character development, and I feel like the author very much improved on that in this book as I got to know them a bit better and felt so much more empathy for what they were going through. This adds another layer to what is happening as when you are empathetic, it adds to the tension so you are afraid that something might happen to one of the characters, and when it does, it is terrifying. This was missing in the first book, and I was so glad to feel that connection in this one.

The plot in the first half was a bit slower, but I didn't mind too much as it gave the author time to explore character development and help the reader understand a lot of the trauma the characters were dealing with from the events in the first book. It also allowed for the introduction of a few new characters, something I enjoyed. Once we got halfway through though, the action picked up considerably and didn't let up and so did the tension. I like how the author uses his characters to discuss slasher films and the tropes in sequel films as it gives you some foreshadowing, but then throws it all upside down. It's kind of fun actually, and it reminds me of the film 'Scream' when one of the character discusses what you should do and not do in a horror film Although I know this is supposed to a slasher film where things should be over the top, but sometimes some scenes were too far-fetched for me as I wondered how they would have this type of knowledge or be able to do some of the things they did.

Europea Halls 2 was a fun, quick read, and I enjoyed it tremendously. I loved the Budapest setting and how the architectural beauty contrasted with what was happening. It is definitely a type of over-the-top slasher book that is very much dialogue-driven, but that is what is so fun about it, it doesn't take itself too seriously while still having some serious things about it. I am definitely looking forward to book 3 when it is released in May 2024 so I can finally find out what is behind everything.

Thanks you to the author for giving me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is such a fresh, vibrant slasher; one that keeps you completely on the edge of your seat from start to finish! I loved book two of the Europea Halls trilogy just as much, if not more so, than book 1. Here, the survivors of the Europea Halls school killings in Brussels head to Budapest for some much needed light-heartedness with the hope that they can heal a little from the trauma they experienced – things do NOT go according to plan!

I particularly loved the European energy of the characters and the Budapest setting. It was a joy to see these teens from different countries come together, share their cultures with each other, and be so eager to explore this new-to-them city. It’s also so refreshing to read a horror away from the usual US and London choices; the author clearly has a soft spot for Budapest and I really appreciated the attention to detail.

The contrast with the dark world of murder is even more striking against this backdrop. The kills are deliciously gruesome – shivers down your spine gory and definitely not for the faint-hearted!
I also loved how this trilogy plays with the horror tropes I enjoy so much: the teens at one point analyse horror film sequels (a homage to Scream in the best possible way) and it really gets you analysing as a reader. You end up just as paranoid as the characters, constantly trying to find out who is genuine, second and third guessing the smallest of details.

No spoilers here but oh my goodness, I didn’t see the twist coming! Just brilliant.

The overarching mystery running through this trilogy is also super intriguing; I have absolutely no idea how it’s all going to come together but I can’t wait to find out!

Thank you to the author for my arc – all views are my own 😊

“Don’t you know history repeats itself, hmmm?”

Alan Shiver’s ‘Europea Halls 2: A Summer in Budapest’ takes place a year and a half later from the first killings. Because surviving a massacre wasn't enough, Liv, Ingvild, and the gang head to Budapest for some culture, new friends, and, you know, another serial killer trying to ruin their vacation. Because, why not? Remember, it all goes back to the beginning!

I was terrified to read the sequel because the first book was ridiculously awesome, but it turns out the sequel is mind-blowingly epic! It's like a slasher novel on steroids, with a healthy dose of history, epic killings, and a showdown that left me speechless. I mean, who needs sleep when you've got Europea Halls 2 to keep you up all night? Alan Shiver is a genius for crafting a story that's equal parts suspenseful, hilarious, and heartbreaking, with plot twists that will keep you guessing until the very end. I love that Alan Shiver thinks outside the box but still keeps it familiar.

I was worried the multiple POVs would give me whiplash, but I'm loving the crazy ride of being inside each character's head. The new characters are seamlessly fits in well with the legacy characters. I'm still trying to figure out who's trustworthy - that killer reveal totally threw me!

After reading ‘Europea Halls’ and ‘The Namaste Slasher’, I'm convinced Alan Shiver is the next big thing in slasher novels - the king of creepy, the lord of ludicrous deaths, the one who'll make you sleep with the lights on! This one's my favorite so far, and I'm stoked to see what other terrors he's got cooking in that twisted brain of his. If you're a fan of Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, do yourself a favor and dive into these books. Your sleep-deprived self will thank you later!

First, thank you Alan Shivers for the ARC.
I enjoyed book 1 and rated it 4 stars! However, book 2 was wild!!!! 5 stars from me ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Let's do this without spoilers!

Character development: the characters we already know were developed so well, while still keeping some of their old personality traits, they were different in an understable way. They suffered intensely from PTSD and this was done really well. It wasn't just mentioned and forgotten, it was written into their day to day acitivies. It proved a challenge for everything they considered doing. It defined them in a way it likely would if you went through those horrific things from the first book.

The new characters were fun but a book like this: who can you trust?! I was judging everyone.

The slashing: Woah!!! It's from beginning to end and it is intense!! There are some brutal murders in this book. Some are cringe worthy!! Some are really sad because you've got to know the characters, their fears, their loved ones etc. Some are really quite shocking!

The showdown at the end was such an terrifying adventure! I didn't know who'd make it, who I could trust, when there would be a plot twist etc.
I kept antipating someone I liked to turn around and be like "Boom, its me!"

I loved all the discussions of culture, I thought the setting was brilliant. I only have praise for this really! It was really good and terrifying. I can't wait for book three, there's no one to trust and I don't know how the survivors will manage this! I deffo have my ideas what may happen / who may be involved. No one is safe!

A nail biting horror which I recommend, especially if you love slashers and those awesome chase scenes!

If you're reading this review, chances are you read - and hopefully enjoyed - the first Europea Halls book. You're likely wondering if this is a worthy follow-up, if it successfully continues the story? I'm glad to say that for me, it is, and it does.

If you haven't read the first book, you should before starting this. This a direct sequel with characters, plot points and references that rely on that knowledge, but fortunately it's also well worth your time. These books are both slashers with a YA vibe, and a main cast of student protagonists.

A Summer In Budapest follows it up with more of what I liked in the series' first entry. The kills are more brutal, with some wince-inducing descriptions and buckets of gore. It's a pleasure to spend more time with the returning characters, and while many of the new additions weren't quite as interesting, I enjoyed all their POV chapters - and whisper it, this is a slasher, so you know they won't all be around for long anyway.

A big selling point of the first story was the setting. I can't recall reading many books of this sub-genre being set in Europe, and moving this one to Budapest was an inspired move, increasing the isolation the characters feel, and giving the author the chance to provide some wonderful descriptions of the city.

There's always a concern with slasher sequels - how can these characters be put into a similar situation again, and how can the effects and trauma of last time be fully felt? Europea Halls 2 manages to do both successfully, and is a must-read if you were a fan of the original.

It's publication day for @alanshiversauthor with his second book in the Europea Halls book series! This book, inspired by 90s slasher films, is a sequel and should be read after book one as the first book provides the necessary background to understand the events happening in book two.

The story continues some time after what happened in book one. We follow Karel, Ingvild, Karla and Oliwia, the four survivors from book one, on a much needed trip to Budapest. A trip to forget what happened and to see if they'll be able to continue with their lives again. On their journey they meet new people who they continue to meet in Budapest. In the city, they get to know a few more people and all these characters combined form the group around which book two is centered. However, the group is not free from sorrow or trouble as people around them are getting slaughtered. Will they be lucky like last time and survive or will this be their last chapter?

A great follow up to book one, book two does live up to the expectations. A great story with relatable characters caught in a horrible slasher - that's it in short. Loved the entire 90s vibe combined with present day issues which makes it all the more interesting and amazing to read. The book starts off with tension and keeps this up the entire time - adrenaline filled, fast-paced and wickedly entertaining! Can't wait for book 3!

Thanks to the author for providing me with this book - very grateful!

Wow, dare I say this one was even better than book one? The author does an amazing job writing this sequel based in Budapest. With only 4 survivors from book one, I really had no idea how the story would go, and was honestly shocked by the ending. I really loved seeing Budapest through everyone’s eyes, as I have never been there or anywhere else in Europe. Shivers does a great job showing off the sights and sounds with his descriptions, and the gore was just right! I need to know who the killer is though because that ending was wild. Are we dealing with another Michael Myers (why won’t you die already?!) or what? I can’t wait to see what happens in book 3!!

Europea Halls 2 by Alan Shivers
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thanks to the author for the ARC!

I really enjoyed this book. I read the first book and was so happy to see a second was coming out. I cannot wait to read more from this author.

The story started fast paced right in chapter one which I really liked! I liked how it was a different setting compared to the first book but the suspense and thrill of the first book carried through to this one. I liked that I knew characters from the first book and their relationship to each other. I would highly recommend reading the first book before this one! While it isn’t 100% necessary, you get to know the characters and will have a better understanding of relationships throughout the book.

One thing I would say is that some scenes were far fetched and had me wondering how the event could happen. While I know it is a story, I still like when a story has a reality to it when it comes to slashers. In saying this, i still really liked the story, I just had moments of confusion on how some events could happen.

Overall, I recommend the book! The suspense and different twists and turns of the story were definitely worth the read.

Blood and Drama

The follow up to the campus slasher tale takes the survivors of the massacre on a vacation to Budapest where they meet a score of new people before running into another killer who is after them. In typical slasher fashion, new characters are introduced only to be unceremoniously murdered by the unknown killer. Of course the majority of the first half felt more like a romantic drama about couples on vacation, as it was really more about relationships than anything else. This book also takes a first person POV with a different character for each chapter (which seems to be a popular way to write nowadays), although I think limiting the viewpoint can hinder what else is going on in the background. When the killer finally strikes, brutality ensues, and nobody is safe. I didn’t quite understand the motive of the killer, but that’s because the series isn’t over. And those who did make it seemed to be superhuman given the wounds they received. But that’s also typical for a slasher. I do want to see how this series ends so I will definitely read the third part.

He has done it again!!! Such a cleverly written book, I'll do my best to do it justice.
Firstly, the theme of mixed nationalities from the first book continues. A new batch of characters, all from different countries, and a clever game of stereotypes from your country of origin which hold some truth, was really interesting and helped get to know all the main characters. These guys were all really likeable and I became emotionally invested in all of them, albeit misplaced in some cases.
Secondly, the slasher film geek again talks about their theories regarding who's next and who the killer is, but rest assured you will still be constantly surprised.
This was such good fun to read. All the shocks, twists and mistrust of characters of a slasher film, within a book which can be read within the same time as watching a film. I have to say, I feel that it was actually more suspenseful to "read" a film rather than watch it. Well written and utterly addictive! A must read for slasher, thriller readers.

Both books in this trilogy so far have been so much fun - I’m not a big fan of comparing books to other books or movies but I feel like this one needs it. In saying that, this series so far feels very 80’s slasher meets Scream meets Pretty Little Liars meets Saw - and I’m here for it!

Although I enjoy the characters and settings, my favourite thing by far about these books so far is the absolutely brutal death scenes. This is absolutely the most savage YA slasher I’ve personally come across and when I read the first I only thought it was brutal but I can confidently say the author has kicked it up a notch with the sequel.

I love the mystery in these and so far I’ve found myself genuinely surprised with both endings/killer reveals. Alan does a brilliant job of keeping the pace of the book and knows when to insert a kill at just the right time.

I’ve not really seen too many reading this series which is a shame, if you’re looking for a quick and fun mystery slasher with kills that’ll leave you shocked, I definitely recommend picking this up! Can’t wait to read the grand finale to the trilogy!

Book 2 in the Europea Halls series and just as great as the first one! Perfect for those who love 90s slasher movies.

It is a young adult slasher novel filled with action and gore from the very beginning. It will keep you guessing throughout and you won’t know who you can trust!

Such a quick and easy read. Pacing is perfect and has short chapters that you just fly through. Also has great descriptions of the setting.

Some may feel some scenes are far-fetched, but c’mon it’s a fictional horror slasher novel- some things can be far-fetched- just enjoy the ride people!

It ends with a major cliffhanger and I cannot wait for the third novel and to find out who the other killer is! I have no idea how it will all come together and am excited to find out!

Really recommend checking this one out when it releases on 1/20/24!!🖤 Be sure to read book 1 first- you could technically read this as a stand-alone, but will understand and enjoy it a lot more if you do read book 1 first.

Thank you @alanshiversauthor for this #gifted ARC!🫶🏼

🔪 A killer sequel that will leave you begging for more 🔪

Europea Halls 2: A Summer In Budapest follows our survivors from book one. Roughly a year and a half has gone by since the tragic events that took place at Europea Halls. Trying to put the past behind them, the teens travel to Budapest for a mini vacation. Things quickly go south, however, when bodies start piling up.

No one is safe.

This book was a blast from start to finish. I really enjoyed getting a closer look at some of the characters from book one, while being introduced to a few new characters as well.

Just like any slasher sequel, the kills were amped up. Trains, parties, saunas… you name it, the killer is there with creative ways to finish off their victims.

I also loved that not all questions were answered before the ending. It leaves me wanting to come back for book 3.

Thank you very much to the author for the ARC

“I don't know which is worse- seeing her on the street being followed by the killer or not seeing her anymore at all.”

overview-

The gang is all back. Well, whoever’s left of it is.

The survivors of Europea Hall’s string of murders are ready to explore the world and heal their wounds, figuratively and literally. On their summer trip to Budapest, amidst their parties and spa days, their new friend group slowly is being killed off one by one. The terrors they thought they escaped have snuck up on them once again.

review-

Europea Halls 2 is even creepier and more brutal than the original. Slashers are for all seasons, so Scream lovers, look no further; Alan Shivers has once again served us with a mind-twisting, gut-wrenching slasher.

I wish I had proof of my reactions toward the end because I was actually GASPING at these plot twists and the climactic scenes.

I was given this as an ARC in exchange for an honest review 🫶✨ Releases on Amazon January 20

In September I got the chance to read the arc for the first book in the Europea Halls trilogy. I really enjoyed that one, so when I got the chance to read the arc for book two I was super excited. This second installment immediately starts off with some action, which I loved. However, this book also leaves quite a bit of room for some depth (which is something I missed a bit in the previous book). There were many chapters that discussed the characters' mental health and I thought this was a nice addition. The story was also thrilling throughout. It had me on the edge of my seat and I truly couldn't stop reading. The setting was also amazing. Budapest is now even higher on my list of cities I want to visit. All in all, I think this was a great sequel. It was fast-paced, easy to read and thoroughly enjoyable. I'm already looking forward to part 3, which is coming out later this year!

I loved this second instalment in the Europea Halls trilogy. Alan perfectly captures those 90s movie slasher vibes that I love. The references are brilliant! I loved the twists and trying to guess who the killer is, I can never guess right though!
I also adored the stunning imagery of Budapest in this story and learnt a lot about the history of a place I’ve never been to. It was described in such amazing detail that it felt like I was there as I read it. I really love the detail of the settings in Alan’s stories.
I also love the juxtaposition of the beauty of the setting and then the brutality of the death scenes. Make no mistake, this book has gore and horror but also heart and the strength of friendship at its core.
Highly recommend this series and I can’t wait to read the next instalment.

I absolutely devoured this book in just one sitting! This book is very action packed and if follows our characters in the same fast pace that we were used to in book one.

I love our characters development and the setting in this book, I really liked the cultural aspect of this novel and I loved seeing that the author focused on this side as well, not only on the scary and gory side of the story.

The narrative unfolds a year and a half following the events of the initial book within the Europea Halls series. The trauma and its impact on the characters are evident in the opening chapter.

This book is quick read, fast paced 90' slasher and very intriguing. I can't wait for book 3!!

Ingvild and Oliwia survived the Europea Halls massacre, and after a long time healing from the physical wounds they are determined to heal from the mental wounds. Along with their partners/massacre survivors Karla and Karel, they head to Budapest for what is supposed to be a relaxing vacation. What they don't realise is that a killer is following them, and you know what they say about the sequel? The body count is bigger.

This one starts off with a bang and doesn't let up until the very end. Like the first, it had some pretty brutal murder scenes, and like all slasher sequels, there are new people dragged in, original survivors at risk, and there is always a twist. This was a fabulous sequel and I can't wait to start book three.

Wow this was crazyyyy. I do have to say I expected the reveal but I just didn't want to believe it. Everything was brutal, the deaths, the betrayal. I wanted to throw my kindle across the room by the end of it because what do you mean there's still so many things we don't know. I'm going into book 3 right away, there's no other way around it. I need answers. NEED them.

I feel like this book hit a little bit harder than the 1st one because we know these characters really well by now. We care about them and root for them. And it hurts when something happens to them. Well... I think therapy is also waiting for me after I'm finished with this series... Or is this series going to finish me... Wait to find out in the next one 👉.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 Europea Halls 2 by Alan Shivers is a true sequel with the promise of all the 90s / early 2000s slasher goodness (Scream and Saw vibes to name a few) you’ve come to expect from Europea Halls! This Ya Slasher is such a roller coaster ride slow to start but once it speeds up you don’t want it to end. It definitely leaves you itching for the third and final book. This was an ARC read which releases on January 20th 2024. I highly recommended you read the first book before reading this one 😊.
