Arising Son: Part One: The Guardians of the Temple Saga by Marie Montine tells of Cassandra's deepest secrets coming to life. From the beginning, Cassandra understood the reluctance of bringing offspring into this world. Would he be mankind's greatest foe...or greatest gift? Ryan Reyn has a gift of clairvoyance, which allows him to see illnesses through his hands. Helpful for a doctor, but the truth behind his art opens a new world to him. When his best friend, Walter, asks for his help, Ryan finds out more about himself and his unique race of people. Secrets kept that put many people in danger.

With a steamy rush of mysterious beginnings and riveting twists, Marie Montine begins the next part of her Guardians of the Temple Saga in Arising Son: Part One. The novel is superbly written with well-rounded characters. There is an intricate weave of past characters and present secrets. From the beginning, I could not put this novel now and look forward to reading the next installment. I highly recommend this novel to lovers of the dark fantasy genre.

Twenty years after Mourning Grey, the story follows Ryan who is successful working independently as a doctor's assistant. When his world comes crashing down on him for protecting a woman he's falling for, he discovers he has strength unlike a normal human.
And a great thirst...for blood.
He confronts his mother on who he really is.
With the shocking information Cassandra finally reveals, Ryan must chose his own path; either to the Light or to the Dark. And he's beginning to like one more than the other...

If you have read "The Mourning Grey" trilogy and loved it then I’m sure you will be very happy to continue the Saga! If you haven’t read the Mourning Grey books I recommend them too, but I think you could read the Arising Son books anyway, it isn’t essential to start with the previous books. I have to say this instalment was some great fast but compelling reading. I blew through it in no time at all. I really like the main protagonist, Ryan. His character is well written and the drama and action in this book was great. There was not a dull moment to be had in this quick read. A fantastic book that’s a great edition to the series.

I was not expecting to finish this so fast. Its not a very long book but it does keep you on your toes. It ends with a cliffhanger but gives you a glimpse of the next book.

I have a soft spot for vampire stories and I like how different this was. There is a lot of history in this book that I would like to know more about. Ryan seems super interesting and I liked the chapters that focused on him. His ability go read things when he touches them is super duper cool and I wonder what more he has hidden.

‘…we’re not supposed to keep secrets. It’s like lying.’

Canadian author Marie Montine focuses her writing on science fiction and paranormal themes. Her initial work was offered under the name M.C. Glan – MIDNIGHT ON MARS, a science fiction novella. Now using the name Marie Montine she delivers a paranormal series, THE GUARDIANS OF THE TEMPLE in two sets of sagas – MOURNING GREY (3 volumes) and now ARISING SON of which this novel is the first volume. The series is projected at this time to be six installments – ‘a saga that explores the lives living under the Guardians of Light and Dark, and that some things exist in the grey, such as love.’

In the initial volume of this saga Marie created strong – yet vulnerable – characters about whom we care and are eager to follow as this story sweeps on. The Prologue reflects twenty years ago in Mourning Grey – “Cassandra Wynstrom moaned and shifted onto a more comfortable position. Except for the nurse going about preparing for the birth, the house was quiet, a place she had discreetly bought after the previous owner – Nancy and Gerald Wynstrom – had passed away. Cassandra ran her hand over her belly, swollen from is ninth month of pregnancy…Over the last eight months, Cassandra understood her ancestor’s torment, and had gained empathy for Ayella’s reluctance to bring forth an offspring that could be mankind’s greatest foe - or greatest gift….But unlike Ayella, Cassandra would not kill her own child.’ And thus Ryan is born!

Having established durable characters in the initial volumes, the saga progresses as follows: ‘Twenty years after Mourning Grey, the story follows Ryan who is successful working independently as a doctor's assistant. When his world comes crashing down on him for protecting a woman he's falling for, he discovers he has strength unlike a normal human. And a great thirst...for blood. He confronts his mother on who he really is. With the shocking information Cassandra finally reveals, Ryan must chose his own path; either to the Light or to Dark. And he's beginning to like one more than the other...’

That delicate line between fantasy and reality widens as Marie enhances her story with yet more fascinating changes and ideas. The series is intended for young adults – and for all readers who enjoy paranormal sagas!

Arising Son: Part Two takes Ryan on a trip to Empia with his mother. Maria Montine continues to enthrall us with the secrets behind Ryan's beginnings as he investigates his heritage. His purpose is to rid himself of the vampire inside or at least suppress it, but dark forces have a plan for him.

This chilling novel takes you to a world of secrets and wars. The past clashes with the present when Ryan and Cassandra attempt to destroy an evil that should have been annihilated twenty years ago. The characters are magical and impressive as the story unfolds. The action smoothly switches to the past as it affects the present. Lovers of dark fantasy will enjoy Arising Son: Part Two as Maria Montine continues her fabulous saga.

The Arising Son books are a series that holds nothing back. With elements of suspense, mystery, romance, and paranormal I was hooked right from the start. Before reading her books I was unsure what to expect, but Marie Montine has gained a fan in me with her this Guardians of the Temple series.

I loved the dynamics between the characters, and the world building was fully fleshed out and easy to visually picture while reading. The plot is excellent and kept my interest all the way through.I was thoroughly impressed; each of the characters come easily to life while reading, especially Ryan who I definitely have a soft spot for.

I can't wait to read the next book that follows.

Wow - this story certainly started off with a bang. Gripping from page one, this epic fantasy explores some interesting themes. How would you handle it if you suddenly woke up with superhuman strength and a thirst for blood? Ryan’s struggle with who he is, and what his fate might be, is absolutely fascinating. He’s such a complex character, and very well-developed. The plot moved along smoothly, and there were enough twists to keep me turning pages. The perfect read for epic fantasy and paranormal lovers. I certainly look forward to reading part two!

‘I see a dark figure. He has wings for arms and claws for fingers…He’s calling out to me’

Canadian author Marie Montine focuses her writing on science fiction and paranormal themes. Her initial work was offered under the name M.C. Glan – MIDNIGHT ON MARS, a science fiction novella. Now using the name Marie Montine she delivers a paranormal series, THE GUARDIANS OF THE TEMPLE in two sets of sagas – MOURNING GREY (3 volumes) and now ARISING SON of which this novel is the second volume.

Ryan, now the principle character in this second Arising Son volume, opens as follows; ‘Ryan stepped onto the deck glistening from the sun. He inhaled the humid air with subtle undertones of the subtropical forest ranging from pungent moss and fungus to fragrant flowers. It was a welcoming greeting compared to the dark and quiet trip. It rained most of the time so they had stayed indoors. Ryan was nauseated as he sailed the ship, never having been on one before. On the first day, his mother had talked a lot about Stonefort and the theatre before she had reluctantly moved into Empia...’

The synopsis provided allows entry into this step of the saga: ‘Ryan arrives in Empia to further investigate his bloodline. But while searching the temple and exercising his unique powers, he meets an ancient entity: one of the Guardians, and it challenges all that he is by asking him to do a task. When the person closest to Ryan betrays him, the Dark becomes even more enticing. With the oncoming eclipse, Ryan must choose which side he is on: the Dark or the Light...for there was never a time until now when the fate of the world rested on just one man's choice.’

That delicate line between fantasy and reality widens as Marie enhances her story with yet more fascinating changes and ideas. The series is intended for young adults – and for all readers who enjoy paranormal sagas!

Arising Son Part One by Marie Montine
Book startgs with a quote.
Started with a prologue from 20 years ago when Cassandra was about to give birth, she recalls others in the area wearing black robes and magic all around her.
Story follows Ryan, now in the medical field and he knows there is something different about himself. His mother is not very open to telling him as he's just a young man still.
Her clan had clashed with another and he was the result. She had been tending to his daily feedings of blood as he can only have a certain type of blood. He feels an urging but has no clue what it entails.
Things come to a head when the clan want to destory him and his mother Cassandra. They had thought she had died all these years, she was so far hidden in a small area.
Ryan also has fallen for a waitress at the local restaurant and he asks other males about flirting and other hormonal events in his life.
Big fight brings out the good in some and the bad in others. He had no idea what his mind had led him to do, like he had no control over it.
Loved watching Barnabas from the local TV series set in a town nearby. He was a vampire and there were so many other creatures around you could believe it was really going on at times.
This story reminds me of that as the other creatures do come out and their characteristics are brought to life.
About the author is included at the end along with a message from her.
Excerpt from the next book in the series is included at the end.
Received this review copy from the publisher and this is my honest opinion.

In the fourth book of the guardians of the temple saga, a rising sun part one Cassandra gives birth to Ryan. Ryan grows up to become a doctors apprenticeWhile growing up he noticed abilities that others didn’t have. Because of strange sightings at night queen Theresa call for an investigation and this is when Gregory makes a cameo and talk to the police and insist that Cassandra died during the great war. Cassandra even talks to Audrey who tells her Harkin didn’t love her that he only let her live because of the baby inside of her. After all the turmoil Cassandra went through she doesn’t know what to think, but does come clean to her son Ryan. He has fallen in love and everything is changing and everything he knows will be questioned and everything he thought Reel might not be real at all. This book was in my opinion better than the last two books I thoroughly enjoyed those books but this one was so much better. And that is saying a lot because those were good books. If you want to start with this book you can it is easily a standalone and due to retrospective and queen Theresa‘s investigation you will come to know the prior story. I highly recommend this book to those who love Darkside by and paranormal stories. If that is your genre you’re missing out if you haven’t read the guardians of the temple saga.

I read the first in the series, so when I saw this one, I decided to give it a go. This continues the story of dark magic and vampires. What I like about this series is it’s your usual vampire story. The first book had a romance that felt a little too much like recent vampire movies/tv shows. I was happy to see this one got away from that a little.

Ryan has gifts that set him apart from everyone else, human and vampire. But with the gifts come darkness, and he struggles with them and what he must do. If you haven’t read the first, you might consider going to it first. Although this works as a stand alone, the first book can help provide essential background info on the world and its characters.

It’s a good mix of fantasy and horror. Fans of both genres will like this series. The first book is a good setup for the series, and this one is much better. With each edition, the author has improved their writing and the narrative. I’m looking forward to the next one.

As a reader delving into the depths of "Arising Son," which is the second installment of Marie Montine's captivating series, The Empians Pantheon, I found myself engulfed in a journey that seamlessly intertwines the realms of light and darkness, leaving me both breathless and contemplative.
The strength of the narrative are its richly drawn characters and immersive world-building. From the war-torn landscapes to the intricacies of Empian society, Montine paints a vivid picture that transports readers to another realm. It's within this world that Ryan's struggles come to life, his internal battles mirroring the external conflicts that threaten to tear his world apart.
So actually, it is a thought-provoking exploration of identity, power, and the choices we make in the face of adversity.
For readers seeking a tale that challenges the boundaries of traditional fantasy, this one is a worthy addition to any library. I would highly recommend this book!

Interesting

The backstory is really interesting, and the writing is impressive. The main storyline is intriguing, but it seems a little overly convoluted at times. Make sure to read and book 1 before diving into this one.

I don't know where to start, I loved so much about this book. There's a bit of romance, plenty of suspense, and a cast of characters you won't soon forget. The world was really brought to life, and it was more like watching a movie than reading a book. It was a bit jarring to come back to the real world after spending hours immersed within the pages of the book. If you're a fan of fantasy, strong characters, and a well-built world, you're going to love this book!
