Jade Hillings has been dealt one bad hand after another. From losing one of the most important people in her life to being betrayed by another, Jade has been depleted of any love she once had to give. Not expecting to feel anything other than sexual pleasure for the opposite sex, she’s surprised to experience much more when she meets O’haji Scarlem.
Everybody has emotional trauma but only few overcome it. Will Jade be one of those select few or is she too jaded and scarred to beat the odds?
How it started: 🎶Me, Myself and I that’s all I got in the end that’s what I found and it ain’t no need to cry I took a vow that from now on ima be my own best friend🎶
How It ended: 🎶Ain’t there something I can give you? In exchange for everything you give to me🎶
To say that A. Jaye came out the gate guns blazing would be an understatement!! I mean from the prologue we experience utter chaos from grief to lies to deceit to scandal and everything in between! Like TF!! Utter pandemonium and utter mayhem. OUT 👏🏽THE👏🏽 GATE👏🏽!!!
Fast forward 8 years later and the shenan’s are shenanigans!!!! Jade and O’haji went through some ish and while it didn’t break O’haji it was definitely a different tune being sung by Jade! It was definitely fk 🥷 from A-Z and back again!
Initially O’haji was down for the challenge. As a lover he was determined to break down Jade’s walls but quickly realized he bit off more than he could chew and wondered if the trouble was even worth it. Jade exhausted me so I KNOW bro was mf tied!!
There was A LOT happening in this story! Some really good things and some things I personally could have done without that steered the story in a different direction. I went back and forth from cackling in pure delight to wondering wtf did I just read and why?! 😵💫 If nothing else the book was entertaining af! It was my kind of messy and my kind of petty.
Where improvements could have been made would be editing and restructuring of the story. There were moments where the writing threw me off and the way things happened in the story read as repetitive. There was also a disjointed feel to the story. If you’re here for vibes only then you’ll absolutely love this story but if some of the above things mention are of importance then maybe not as much. I did like the authors storytelling ability so I’ll at least give the second BRAE book that I snagged a try before determining if Ive found a new author worth keeping around.
Ma'am, that first chapter almost took me out! 🥹 Jade was doing all she could to keep her mother's spirits up, and cherish the short time she had with her, until family issues blew up the spot. Really? Her damn daddy was a f**k boy for that ish he pulled at Jade's birthday party no less. 😤 Then when the rest of the skeletons fell out the closet, it was just too much for momma. 💔
Jade is already giving men the 👀due to her daddy issues, then she marries the "safe" option Richard, who turns out to be on the same ish, and she is heartbroken again! 😡 So, she is officially on her f 🥷🏾tip. Get the D and move the hell around. She allows her past, along with anger from her experiences to make her mean, with a lethal mouth.
O'haji, had a tough start in life, losing his parents young; but being adopted by great parents who gave him the love and support he needed to thrive. O'haji had the world at his fingertips. Full ride to college and was prepared to leave the following day before tragedy struck. Young and dumb actions took away his freedom and opportunities, leaving him devastated. Making the best of his situation, he took classes and learned all he could while he was away, to prepare for his future.
First day out he meets Jade at sparks fly. However, both of their ratchet mouths say things to the other that leave them with a sour taste. Nonetheless the chemistry and the lust is front and center. O'haji knows that he should be focused and getting his life back on track, but all he can see is Jade. He could be jaded with women due to what happened to him, but he is a lover at heart. There is something about her that calls to him. Beyond the pain, he knows she wants love. The push and pull between these two was crazy. O'haji knew what he wanted and was willing to work at Jade's pace. But Jade was so stubborn, hardheaded, and difficult that O'haji walked away several times as he was just over the ish. She just wouldn't let go of the past, and she was pushing her good thang right on out the door.
This read has some tough moments, however, the dialogue with these characters is hilarious. I mean I laughed out loud too many times to count. Whew did Jade get on my nerves, but glad I ran across this read. Enjoyed it.
4.5 ⭐️ Listen!!!! I thought M. Monique's book was it, this one is right up on it!
O'Haji Scarlem, was ITTTTT! Even after serving 8 out of 10 years in prison for not keeping his head on a swivel & getting caught up with goofy females.
Meets
Jade Hillings, who was a women trying to heal after daddy issues & a clown a** husband! These 2 got together & were absolutely EXPLOSIVE in every sense of the word! Their banter was TOP TIER, but so was the love!
Although some parts seemed to drag a little, I enjoyed both of these characters SOOOO MUCH, separate & together!
There may be some triggers for some people, I definitely cried at the end! This was still a VERY enjoyable story 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾!!
Jade's first chapter broke me while also making me feel as though I was watching a reality TV show episode. I was locked in. Going into O'haji's chapter, I was further floored. I can't even say poor Belinda, but ima surely say dang O'haji, I am sorry Belinda's actions caused a change in your life's path. Jade and O'haji's journey consists of Jade pulling away more than anything, but I liked them together even as friends or two people getting to know each other. Although I think I loved hearing about O'haji's parents more!! Ahh they had a beautiful love or rather I should say that O'haji's dad gave O'haji an amazingly breathtaking base for loving women.
Authoress A Jaye, DAMN YOU FOR MAKING CRY THE UGLY CRY AFTER READING THIS😭😭😭🤣🤣🤣 Aside from a few editing issues, you wrote the ish out of this book. It really hit home for me in more ways than one. You had me laughing, cursing, ready to fight, cry, and fall in love at the same time, lbvs.
I loved Sookie, Justin, and McCoy♥️. They were the best brother and bestie ever. They allowed both Jade and O’haji to make their mistakes, but also held the accountable for their fu** ups. They both needed that tough love, especially Jade cause she was wearing that hurt like an extra layer of skin😔.
I effing love me some O'haji😍! That man right there was everything any man or woman could ever pray for when it comes to their daughter finding a forever love. From the moment he met Jade he applied pressure, And stuff firm on her being his future. He didn’t play about her, and laid hands on anyone who thought they were gonna disrespect either of them.
Mama Paige was the ish! She held on fire as long as she could😭😭😭.
Although Jade pissed me off ALOT throughout the book, in so many ways, I am Jade, and I truly needed her story, so thank you😘. Her Daddy and Richard were trash asf🙄. With the exception of her brother, the men who were supposed to protect her only did the opposite. I know that feeling all too well and my heart broke for her💔😢. Kudos Queen for such an emotional roller-coaster of a story🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
O’Haji made me give it a 4, Jade made me want to give it a 3 lol. I’m glad O didn’t take her ish and allow her to treat him any kind of way because she want to pretend to be a thot bucket from fake hurt. It’s nice to finally read a book where the chick has to make it right instead of the guy keep kissing her a** like he is in the wrong. O had me cracking up the whole book. Jade just came off fake for no reason acting childish. She seemed more authentic and likable at the end though.
O'haji & Jade know they put me thru it with all there back & forth. I'm glad Jade was able to let some of her hurt go enough to allow O'haji in. O'haji was realky a good guy who wore hus heart in his sleeve and had no problem expressing himself and tht was great to read about considering men. I definitely love them together but Mama Paige was the real star of this show that lady was too funny. Overall great read
This book was good. Jada was a heartbroken woman who just needed to allow somebody to get close enough. O'haji was a man that had a big heart and he just wanted to share his heart and important to a woman. It's always beautiful when you realize hurt people don't always hurt people. They are sometimes meant to fix people. Lead them being fixed at the same time. A. Jaye always give me entertainment in her books. She never leave me unsatisfied.
The title of this book definitely describes the story within. With a storyline that will have you in your feelings at the end, I enjoyed it all. The characters are likeable, hurting, and all dealing with real life issues. Letting the pain from her past rule her life, and almost losing the love she really wanted made Jade grow up.
This book actually gave me the insight to know that all pain can be healed eventually. Ohira and Jade both had some personal issues that they had to deal with, but they ended up getting their happily ever after. Mama Paige held on until she got to see her grandson. Jade’ stepmother tap danced on my last nerve and I wanted to enter the story and touch her.
Jade was in a loveless marriage, Richard was playing in her face! Jade finally had enough and left! The day she left she met Ohaji at his coming home party! The love story didn’t start off any in traditional way! They helped heal each other! She was strong when he was weak and he was strong when she was weak! A great read!
Man! I would have never spoke to daddy again. He doesn’t deserve to carry on with his betrayal and have a relationship with Jade and Justin! O’Haji was exactly what Jade needed to open her heart back up and I know she is exactly what he needs to deal with loss. Great read!
LOVED IT!! I loved everything about this book. This is my first time reading any of this author's work, but it definitely will not be the last. It gave what it is was supposed to give comedy, emotions, life lessons, and a happy ending. GREAT JOB!!!
Outside of the grammatical errors and the minor confusion during some parts of the story this was a really good story about being broken and healing for yourself. I wish there was a component about getting therapy but it was a really good story
I didn’t like the ending. The book was okay. Hated the girl lied on him. & he had to go to jail. The aunt had need to get beat up on sight all day everyday the daddy too
Jaded Scars was a touching story. Both O and Jade had a jaded pass but love can heal it. Mama Paige is my girl. This book made me laugh out loud serval times.
