Second book by Anders Wallenstam. Reading this at the same time as "Omtyckta människor" by Björn Hedensjö and in all aspects Björn's book is the better one. Anders mentions some of the same research but without references and without vivid descriptions that makes you remember it.
The book consists of three parts 1) Your outer life (Ditt yttre liv) This section explores life’s purpose and the universal questions of existence. Wallenstam examines the human quest for meaning, blending personal anecdotes with philosophical insights. He emphasizes the importance of self-reflection, values, and aligning daily actions with one’s deeper purpose. 2) Your inner life (Ditt inre liv) Here, Wallenstam delves into the obstacles people face in life—fear, insecurity, and the pressure of societal expectations. He encourages readers to embrace change, develop resilience, and find lessons in failures. This section highlights mindfulness and gratitude as tools for navigating difficulties and fostering inner peace. 3) The art of life (Livskonst) The final section offers practical advice on cultivating joy and fulfillment. Wallenstam stresses the significance of relationships, personal growth, and contributing to the greater good. He concludes with the idea that happiness is not a destination but a continuous process rooted in small, intentional actions.
He looks at this from three aspects religion (Buddhism), philosophy (Stoicism) and wisdom from older people via interviews or research.
One of the funnier aspects of the book was the fact that in Douglas Adams "Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy" the result of the question what is the meaning of life is 42 and in this book Anders lists 42 clues to the art of life, pure coincident?
