From the adorable to the absurd, these playful paintings are a penguin lover’s delight.Penguins hate zombies. They also hate serpents, bad haircuts, sock monkeys, leprechauns, Halloween, oil rigs, vampire penguins, and mermaids. They really hate clowns, but they really like capes, balloons, and free vacations. This quirky collection reveals the discriminating tastes of these adorable flightless Antarctic birds who encounter odd foes (snow sharks, beavers, cowboys, samurai . . .), but still manage to enjoy the little things in life. With wit, humor, and the occasional alien invasion, Greg Stones’s paintings capture the playfully absurd life of penguins.Praise for Greg Stones“Stones’s panels have a cool way of collectively turning a grin into a chuckle (and perhaps, dare it be said, into a hearty guffaw).” —Publishers Weekly

So much hate...I never would have suspected! But then again I have never asked a penguin what they hate; guess it just goes to show that I have lots to learn when it comes to identifying with penguins! Guess I might be a little angry if I where always cold - so I am not going to judge! Quick read that will put a smile on your face.
Ten Second Synopsis: A brief visual foray into the things penguins hate. And some things they like. And some things they REALLY hate.
I haven't laughed so hard or loudly recently as I did reading this book. I originally bought it as a gift for one of the mini-fleshlings who likes penguins, but this is a book for an adult audience. The connection between image and text is perfectly pitched to create spontaneous laughter and the blank-faced, unimpressed penguins are the stars of the show. But don't get the impression that penguins hate everything....Oh no. Penguins like a number of different phenomena, including bum warmers. Hysterical. This is a great choice as a gift book, or for when you're in desperate need of a giggle. I will be acquiring the zombie titles in this series forthwith.
This book is hilarious! It's one of those books that you pick up just for a quick read to make you chuckle, and it accomplishes just that. We see many things that penguins hate, like, etc. Various creatures like clowns, aliens, vampires, and snowmen make appearances. A very cute read.
For: readers who like penguins and odd humor; fans of comics/graphic novels/quick cartoons/ fans of _The Bunny Suicides_.
Not for: the very easily offended (not a lot falls into this, but it's there occasionally); those wanting a serious account of what penguins are interested in.
Stones has stones -- his art style employs a weird sense of composition that dramatically underplays the humor of the situations he paints. It takes a second or two to get most of these gags, but then when you finally do...
Well, let's just I LOL'ed more than once.
It's a slim book, but it makes a nice gift (which is how I received mine).
This was pretty hilarious. As the title states, each page illustrates something ridiculous that penguins hate - like clowns, or bad haircuts, or gnomes. Then there's a section on things penguins love, still ridiculously random and hilariously illustrated. My sister got my penguin-loving husband a copy for Christmas.
I got this as a joke gift. I'm not sure what to think about this book. It was pretty much funny pictures and with Covid, I no longer have time for audiobooks, so this one was just right :) The thing is that I have no idea who the audience is for this book. It was kind of childish, but some of the jokes were apparently not for kids. I recommend it for anyone who has 15 minutes to kill and doesn't have to actually purchase it!
It was nice to take a break from his books and come back to this one. Hilarious all the way and yes I laughed out loud a lot. The sharks were my favorite... as always. Cute small book to read and enjoy.
So silly, random and ridiculous! No wonder penguin hate things: dogs (peeing on them), jack-o-lanterns (eating them), bad haircuts, serpents, etc. Cute little penguin pics!
Penguins Hate Stuff, Greg Stones Such as lightning-induced zombies, cement trucks; but penguins really LIKE witches, pigeons, lepidopterology. Silly, weird, funny booklet **
Thought this was going to be funny. It wasn’t. I like a clever, cute children’s book. This was neither. Unfortunately, I bought this AND Sock Monkeys Have Issues, and that one is still on the way here.
Want to give this 2.5. while I did find it amusing, I didn't roll out of bed laughing or even giggling. Still a cute strange read. Why it is about penguins is beyond me.
