The collection leans more into gothic than horror in my opinion. Few of the stories really struck me as scary, although a story doesn't necessarily need to be scary for me to find it interesting or enjoyable.

The collection is introduced with a bit of a narrative framing device (reminiscent of Barker's Books of Blood) that felt somewhat unnecessary, but didn't really overstay or over-intrude that much.

There's good variety in subject matter, between the supernatural, body horror, and some more esoteric stuff. I was pleasantly surprised by a Peter Pan-inspired tale, although immediately following it up with a Cinderella-inspired tale felt a little structurally repetitive. While those are the only stories that seem explicitly inspired by classic children's stories, I think spacing them further apart would have improved the experience a little.

The stories I enjoyed the most from the collection were A Killing Repose, None Are Sold Before Their Time, and We Thalassophiles, which I found very engaging, well-written, and creative. Some of my favorites from the collection would easily be 4/5s or 5/5s, but as an aggregate I'm feeling 3/5 for the entire book, as many of the other stories didn't really click too much with me.
