Deeper Than Roses

Rate this book
Emerald eyes wide with terror, auburn hair streaming, exquisite Kristiana Harcourt fled into the night. Her noble father lay dead. With his murderer, Edward MacHugh, in hot pursuit, she galloped wildly to freedom only to fall into the arms of a golden-eyed Gypsy. Born of a Gypsy mother, Logan Chandler, true Earl of Muircairn, wore many disguises. Committed to a desperate plan, he was amazed to find that his love for this proud beauty ran even deeper than his lust for vengeance. Safe yet reviled as an alien among his people, Kristiana’s trust in her virile protector would be sorely tested. Only in the face of certain death would she discover that they shared one heart…and be forced to betray him. Returning to Castle Muircairn—a woman wed to two men; one beloved, one abhorred—her hope lay in the slender chance that Logan still lived. For only he could triumph over MacHugh’s black treachery to reclaim the land and the love that was their radiant birthright.

A good story of vengeance, betrayal, deceptions, mistrust, false assumptions, sacrifice, and a love that withstands them all. Logan and Kristiana go through a lot for their HEA, but it's worth reading about their journey to get there.

Deeper than Roses by Charlene Cross

I read this book a while ago but I enjoyed this historical romance.

The description of the book I am listing below is from the back jacket of the book. I'm adding it because I believe the one on the Goodreads page does not depict this story.

This is the very first romance novel I ever read, and I still remember it. Kristiana is kiiiiiind of annoyingly frail/pathetic for most of the story. And because she is so stunted, Logan compensates, and seems a bit condescending.

I love the info about the gypsies.

I will admit that the first half seems a bit slow. The feisty nature of the typical romance novel heroine manifests in a torrent of curses and insults, and Kristiana is exactly that breed of feisty. Lots of name calling. Lots of bickering. That's the slow part, for me; I hate reading that BS no matter the author/story/genre.

But all-in-all, this is a romance that I love.
