A Lake Bittersweet winter storm gives them a second chance to heat things back up…Baseball star Billy Cooper’s marriage might have crashed and burned, but he’s knocking it out of the park when it comes to co-parenting. When an opportunity for a huge new contract comes along, Billy knows Jenna will have his back. All they have to do is demonstrate that he’s not the same wild “Billy Club” who partied too much back in the day. Rehabilitate his reputation? Shouldn’t be a problem. He's changed; but does Jenna realize it?Jenna Scarlett Cooper couldn’t ask for a better ex than Billy. It’s almost as if, now that they’re older, more mature… No, she can’t think about him that way, no matter how tempting it is. Sexual chemistry was never their problem. Neither was compatibility, or love, or fun, or… nope, she can’t go there. Definitely not. Not with kids and work deadlines and family issues…When a winter storm buries Lake Bittersweet, suddenly things get real for Billy and Jenna. But someone doesn’t want them back together, someone with sabotage in mind. Can two exes who never really fell out of love overcome doubts, fears—even a possible stalker—and find their way back to each other for the ultimate do-over?

Didn’t get past the halfway mark before I was skimming to find details.
She’s celibate (it says she had dated a few times but not once does it mention her sleeping with anyone else) while there are multiple mentions from the author of him fucking around with lots of women…but let’s blame it on his drinking so it seems like there’s an excuse 🙄 God forbid she actually have a sex life like he did (it is 2023 after all) but nope…🙄
Oh, and when she says to him something like do exes need condoms? I just can’t. Are you fucking kidding me? When he has slept with other people since you, of course you need a fucking condom! Sheesh 🙄 🤦🏻♀️
Got bored (same old, same old). Skimmed. DNF.

Billy and Jenna Cooper take a second chance at their marriage in this small town romance.
Sometimes it takes losing what you have to appreciate what you've lost, or even stepping outside of your comfortable bubble, looking back to see where mistakes where made to be able to move forward to a better future. Sometimes holding onto something that isn't working can damage it further. Billy and Jenna never really stopped loving one another, but they were caught in a destructive pattern that needed time to mend and thankfully they got out of their marriage before they caused irreparable harm to one another and could still be friends allowing them to co-parent their children amicably.
Now that a few years have gone by and both of them are in a better place emotionally, mentally, basically just more grown up, they are in a better spot and are able to view one another differently. Communication has been key and while they are still great co-parents and yes, still friends, they are also still very attracted to the person they fell in love with and this is the cross-roads where both of them decide if time does make them a bit wiser for a second chance.
While Billy and Jenna were a sweet story of rekindling romance, my love is still burning bright for Billy's older brother, Galen, sorry Billy 😚 and yes, both Cooper brothers make appearances, along with some other Lake Bittersweet fan favorites.
This second chance romance happens as these two make choices regarding their family, their jobs, and even working together with a bit of suspense added in. I always love returning to this sweet town and look forward to many more adorable romances from this lovely town.
I have read this entire series by Jennifer Bernard and the whole series has a very cute small town romance vibe. Definitely very well written, usually a little bit of drama and some sweet heat. Overall would recommend if you want a nice easy romance. This particular book was a second chance romance and was decent throughout the whole book but really hit the high point for me towards the end of the book. That's really when the good stuff and drama hits.
Basic synopsis is that Billy and Jenna were high school sweethearts, had a bit of an oops baby, got married, Billy went pro for baseball, they had another baby and then the pressure of Billy's career got to be too much so they divorced and are now awesome co-parents. (Run on sentence much?) Now the kids are older, Billy's figuring out his career and Jenna is a bit more confident in herself. Billy has the opportunity to play in Japan which means a big change for their family but first he has to prove his family values as his past as Billy "Club" has put a mar on his reputation. Enter Jenna who is all for helping Billy and his career and maybe getting some space from the man who is still "the one" for her. But as the two spend more time together without the kids to up Billy's image, they learn a lot more about the mature versions of themselves and what feelings are still there for both. Enter a bit of drama (I won't spoil this) but things really come to a decision making point for Jenna in what she can handle and what she won't.
Overall a good book. Minimal heat and drama. More about the second chance romance.
I’ve been intrigued by Billy and Jenna’s story after they were briefly mentioned in prior books in the series focused on his older brother’s. Sad to say my anticipation may have set the bar too high for my expectations of this book because while it was interesting it didn’t wow me.
As a second chance romance it almost felt like their reconnection was a happy accident. They spend time together for a magazine interview to improve his reputation as a stable family man who amicably co-parents his children with his ex wife so he can sign a mega deal with a Japanese baseball team.
These high school sweethearts got married young after an accidental pregnancy. Both had rough childhoods and Billy’s success and fame as a professional baseball player negatively affected Jenna’s emotional security when Billy became known for hitting the club scene with his teammates. They divorced and stayed close for the kids.
The story focused on their cooperation to redeem Billy’s image, weather-related and emergencies that forced proximity and them working as a team. Close proximity had them talking and sharing things that should have been uncovered long ago. Those situations also assisted with physical relations that honestly weren’t romantic - no romantic or emotional build up and more a sense of ‘exes with benefits’.
I normally really enjoy this author’s work, and I was truly eager to read Billy’s story especially since I love baseball. The story just didn’t work for me and I’d consider it an average read.
I received a free ARC from the author and 1852 Media; and I am voluntarily leaving an unbiased review.
The Do-Over by Jennifer Bernard, book seven in her Lake Bittersweet series, is an amazing, emotional, and wonderful second chance story between baseball player Billy Cooper, who’s trying to make the most of his limited time in the majors to do right by his family, and his ex-wife, Jenna Scarlett Cooper, a talented wildlife illustrator with whom he co-parents their growing boys, Zack and Bean. Billy and Jenna met and fell in love as teenagers; getting married at a very young age. Unfortunately, their marriage couldn’t survive Billy’s wild antics in the big leagues, and they ended up divorcing.
Sometimes it takes losing what you have in order to appreciate what you've lost, or even stepping outside of your comfortable bubble, looking back to see where mistakes were made, before you are able to move forward to a better future. Sometimes holding onto something that isn't working can damage it further. Billy and Jenna never really stopped loving one another, but they were caught in a destructive pattern that needed time to mend and fortunately, they took a time out, away from their marriage before they caused irreparable harm to one another. That time allowed them to still be friends, co-parenting effectively; working together to do what was best for their boys and rekindling the romance they almost gave up. I highly recommend The Do-Over to other readers.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Billy and Jenna Cooper got married and started their family young and spent their time focusing on Billy’s career as a ballplayer. Billy’s career caught fire and he didn’t handle it well, so Jenna did what she needed for herself. The end of the marriage didn’t mean the end of their family, and they have gotten the co-parenting thing right. It was also a wakeup call for Billy who realized he lost the best thing in is life. Now that he’s turning his personal life around, he has the chance for a big contract in Japan. He just needs Jenna’s help showing he’s a different man. As they spend more time together, they both start to wonder if maybe they can have a do-over of their marriage. Jennifer Bernard writes fun stories with relatable characters. Jenna and Billy are two that loved each other but had baggage from their childhoods and had some growing to do. They had a solid connection, and it was fun watching them find their way back to each other. THE DO-OVER is the seventh book in Jennifer Bernard’s LAKE BITTERSWEET series. It can definitely be read as a stand-alone because I somehow have missed the books between the first and now, which I shall have to catch up on ASAP to find out how the characters got to where they are. THE DO-OVER is a good one to curl up with on a winter’s day! Thanks to the publisher for the chance to read an advanced copy. All opinions are my own and freely given.
I received a complimentary early release e-book prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is a really unique story between two exes who share two children, and they are still good friends.
Billy and Jenna share two kids and they have a fantastic relationship with their kids and with each other. Trouble comes when Billy's baseball team is not appreciating him, and he gets an opportunity to make major money but its in Japan. But before that happens, he has to clean up his party boy image. He is hoping that Jenna will help him get a better image.
Billy made many mistakes with Jenna, and he owns up to those mistakes. I loved that Jenna makes him give her the answers that she needs to be able to move forward as she tries to help him clean up his image. I also really love that both Billy and Jenna's family welcome each other as they celebrate Thanksgiving dinner.
I also really loved how they support each other not just in relation to parenting but also in relation to their careers and supporting each other's dreams. I actually found Jenna's job one of the most boring jobs I have ever read in a book before. She is a mushroom artist. But I did love how awesome Billy thought her job was. I honestly had no clue that there were mushroom artists and that it's a valid career. But yeah, for Billy that he was so excited about her career.
In the latest installment of the Lake Bittersweet series we follow the story of Billy and Jenna. Billy Cooper is a Lake Bittersweet local who is a professional baseball player. He’s actually currently playing fir the Minnesota Twins. Player is a good word for Billy though. Whether you can chalk it up to young and dumb Billy did not always make the best choices. He would never abandon his two boys but marriage was not something that he ever excelled at. Jenna was the typical professional athlete wife who didn’t know how to handle the pressure that went along with constantly being in the spotlight. She too would do anything for her kids though. Both Billy and Jenna do one thing right though and always have. They have found a way to make their relationship work so they can successfully co-parent. The last thing they expect is to be thrown back in the spotlight though. They don’t want to give everyone especially their boys the wrong impression. But then again perhaps their is still a spark. Everyone deserves a do-over right?
If you have never read a Jennifer Bernard book before I would definitely give them a try. In the midst of life, it ‘s always refreshing to sit down with a good book. I can literally read one of her books from front to back in one sitting. I was given an ARC copy of this book for an honest review.
And of course if you like this series definitely check out the many other series by Jennifer Benard.
There's nothing like a good second chance holiday romance to warm your heart. Jennifer Bernard has written a good one with The Do-Over. Billy Cooper is the loveable ballplayer. He and his ex wife Jenna got married right after high school and became parents not long after. As his career entered the limelight, Jenna was happy to take care of their two young sons and support his rising star. The problem wasn't so much Billy's career but how he handled the off hours by partying that led them to their divorce. Jenna and Billy have been doing okay the past couple of years now that Billy has stopped drinking but his team is possibly dropping him and he's not sure about taking a transfer to Japan. The biggest problem is not just Billy's party boy reputation, it is that he wishes that he could go back in time and fix things with his ex-wife. Jenna now sees that Billy has stopped drinking and his partying ways but they can't change the past but can they change the future? Their story is a good one and it stands alone in the Lake Bittersweet series however I recommend reading the other books as well. The Do-Over was told from dual POV and will make you laugh, tear up, and cheer for Jenna and Billy but there's also some heat too!
Another winner from Ms. Bernard! I have to say I was skeptical about this one as it was a do-over. I usually don't find those as exciting, but this one was done in a fun way. Billy and Jess got divorced and needed to do some growing up, as well as some time apart to really figure out how to be their own people. They co-parented really well and never really fell out of love for each other.
Billy is a short stop for the Twins and had fame young. He was all in and didn't realize how much he took for granted. Jess was on board with being a baseball wife, grew her family and realized that she didn't have the same support so decided to end the marriage.
With a new opportunity to play in Japan, Billy needed to convince the owners of the team he had moved on from his partying ways and was a family oriented player. That meant being close to Jess and the boys while a journalist did a story on them. Spending all the time together, getting stuck in a snow storm and dealing with a crazed female brought them to the realization that they are better together than apart.
Very well done. Start at the beginning of the series read them all, you'll be happier that you did as they are all good reads!
A Great Second Chance Love Story! I’ve always loved a great second chance love story, and boy is this one, one of the best I’ve read in a long time. This is Billy Cooper’s story, the hometown hero who has made it to the big leagues and plays baseball for the Minnesota Twins. Then there’s Jenna, his ex-wife, and mother of his 2 boys. These two met and fell in love as teenagers and got married at a very young age. Unfortunately, their marriage couldn’t survive Billy’s wild antics in the big leagues, and they ended up divorcing. They still care about each other very much and have a very good co-parenting plan in place for their two boys and you just got to love that about these two. You can just tell that these two never stopped loving or wanting what was best for each other. And the way that they are both there for their children is very touching. I loved watching these two grow closer together now that they are older, and they both see where they went wrong in their marriage the first time. Jenna really came out of her shell, and I was glad to see her use that strong woman nature you knew she had hidden inside of herself. This is truly a great story.
THE DO-OVER is the seventh in Jennifer Bernard’s warmly wonderful Lake Bittersweet series, set in a small town on the shores of this lake. It’s a lovely visit to a welcoming community.
As the title suggests, this is a second-chance romance between baseball player Billy Cooper, who’s trying to make the most of his finite time in the majors to do right by his family, and his ex-wife, Jenna Scarlett Cooper, a talented wildlife illustrator with whom he co-parents their growing boys, Zack and Bean.
Jennifer Bernard writes Jenna and Billy’s story movingly, and their families and friends who are a vital part of their lives. It’s clear that these two still have deep feelings for each other, and it becomes increasingly clear how they’ve also grown and matured from the people they were when they’d decided they weren’t working as a couple. I loved Billy and Jenna and their family, and was completely convinced they would be able to truly navigate a life together successfully. A fantastic, hopeful read.
This has got to be the best of the Lake Bittersweet series. I liked all the others but there is just something about The Do-over by Jennifer Bernard that makes it special. We have met the two main characters, briefly, in other books. I haven’t even thought of them much to be honest. Billy Cooper is the brother of Thomas and Galen who we have met in their own books as well as in the others in the series. As a professional baseball player away for most of the year, we have hardly heard mention of Billy. Jenna, his ex-wife, has been mentioned in passing. In their own book, they, of course, take center stage. It’s obvious from the start that the two still have feeling for each other besides just co-parenting their two cute boys Zack and Bean. The two explore their feelings and after several encounters and one very frightening experience, they realize they should re-marry and live happily ever after. It’s just that cute. The Do-over is another book by Jennifer Bernard that is, as always, well plotted and very well edited.
Billy and Jenna are the perfect example of co-parenting after divorce. They have a set of rules (ok Jenna does) about what they can and can’t do. Everything is going well until their relationship is under a reporter’s microscope. I loved this second chance. Billy is a pro baseball player who let fame get to his head. Jenna is the wife who stayed home. That was the past. Billy has now seen the light, so to speak. His partying lead him down a road he didn’t think was possible. His kids and his reputation are more important now. But reformation takes time and trust takes even longer. Jenna has had an interesting life. Raised by her father is a lose term. She and her sister had to depend upon each other and they still do. Her whole being has always been in question. Her independence now was hard earned. I admire her phoenix like transformation. This is now my favorite of this series. I say that with every new release but the emotions of this one? With a divorced couple? So many heart felt moments.
Billy and Jenna are co-parenting their two children after their marriage ended. Now, they're looking at each other through older, more emotionally stable eyes.
When an opportunity presents itself for pro-baseball player Billy, to relocate thousands of miles from Jenna and their boys, he needs Jenna's help to convince the new team he's a different man than he was when his moniker was Billy Club! Now he and Jenna are working together and realizing their divorce might not have been thought through thoroughly enough!
What a great book about co-parenting effectively, working together to do what's best for the children, and rekindling the romance you almost gave up.
This is a total standalone book, although it is the 7th book in the Lake Bittersweet Series. There are characters that you met in previous books in this series, but it's not confusing about who they are and how they relate to the main characters in this book. But...heck...do yourself a favor and read them all!
Billy Cooper, short stop for the Minnesota Twins. Fell in love young. Had a child young. Drafted into the pros young. Party hardy young. Billy had it all, the girl he loved, the baby they got, drafted into MLB. Then the partying started. Jenna stayed in Lake Bittersweet with their two sons. Billy alone in Minneapolis starts the party scene. Add his mom had an addiction issue. That all spells divorce.
Fortunately Billy and Jenna are good ex’s. Rather than saying they are divorced they are co-parents. Their lives are changing. Jenna is an artist and getting illustration jobs. Billy quit drinking and partying. It is the off season and Billy is back in Lake Bittersweet. Billy is having problems on the team. Talk is now swirling that he may leave the Twins and play baseball in Japan. What does that mean for this co-parent family? One thing that never changed, they still love each other.
We meet Jenna’s sister Annika and meet the man and boy whose boat burned on Lake Bittersweet.
I don’t mind reading second chance romance novels, but the ones I usually pick up are just relationships not marriages like Billy and Jenna’s story. What I absolutely adored about this book was that the love between the pair basically leapt from the pages. It was so easy to see that these two belonged together, but maybe getting originally married at a young age and the lifestyle Billy was leading at the time ended up pushing them apart and divorce seemed like the only option. The way they remained close and especially how they co-parented their two boys was just beautiful to read. I was rooting for them to finally find their way back to each other, and even when this happened I certainly didn’t expect to read the suspense part that happened in the book. It ended up to me a little bit shocking but also added so much to this already great book.
I really enjoyed the Do-Over. I loved the plot of a divorced couple co-parenting and kicking butt at it. I really enjoyed exploring both characters and getting to know there pasts and showing the differences in them now as both individuals and as a couple. Jenna was a great character- she obviously adored her boys and family and respected Billy a great deal while also still being so attracted to him. I found her career so cool! Getting to know her and how much she’d changed and grown into an amazing woman was inspiring to read about. Billy was also a great character to read about. His change was also very inspiring and i’m so glad that he saw the problem and worked to fix it. He also was very clear in his love for his boys and for the attraction he still felt for Jenna. The emotions this story brings forth- how they change and how it just makes you so excited to see where they go and how they get there. It was a great read.

This was a great second chance romance. Billy Cooper is back in Lake Bittersweet to spend time with his kids and ex-wife during the holidays. Billy’s career as a professional baseball player is in a bit of a tough spot, and he asks his ex-wife Jenna to do some interviews and spend time together to help his image and his career. Problem is, they both have some unresolved feelings for each other, and some issues they never cleared up during the divorce. I loved watching Billy and Jenna mature and come into their own in this story. Both characters did some work on themselves, before they tried to come together again. This was a very believable second chance story because so many things from the past were addressed. Another heartwarming story in the beautiful setting of Lake Bittersweet. I received an ARC, and this is my honest review.
Billy is a professional baseball player who believes that an opportunity to play overseas will be a better situation than the one he currently finds himself in. Before that can happen, he needs to show the team that he is moved forward from his antics in the past so he asks Jenna, his ex-wife to help.
Jenna realized that a divorce was the best choice both for her and Billy and for the children they both adore. They still share a close relationship so she is willing to help him fight for the job he wants but when they start spending time together, they might just realize that the feelings they had for each other are far from over.
When it comes to Billy and Jenna the love between them was never the problem and I enjoyed seeing them realize what was really important and that it was finally the right time for them to have the life they both deserve.
Jenna and Billy had my heart on edge. I couldn’t help but fall in love with their dynamic and their love for each other. They made the best co-parents and best “teammates” in life and love. When their marriage imploded Billy went a little crazy and earned himself a not so great reputation. When he finally realizes he doesn’t want to be that guy and that he wants a “do-over” with Jenna, she has put up so many walls with all her “divorced co-parent rules”. He’s learning that everything isn’t all about him and he is going to prove to her that he is different. He’s grown up and can see where he wasn’t the man he should have been for his family. He let his baseball fame rule his life. Jenna has also changed, she has learned so much about herself and grown up too. It’s a beautifully written second chance at love. I couldn’t put it down and I think this series is another hit!
Billy and Jenna are high school sweethearts who marry, have two sons, then divorce when Billy is picked for a major league baseball team. The best part of the divorce is they get along better now than they ever did when they were married. Billy is home for the summer, waiting to find out if he's going to Japan, when they both start realizing that, as good a friends as they are, there has always been something more there. Problem is that neither of them is willing to admit to it. I just loved this book! This story involves the ups and downs of any relationship, but with a significant twist. It keeps you involved to the very end, and I loved Billy's relationship with his sons! I was given this ARC for an honest review.
The Do- over by Jennifer Bernard is a second chance sports romance in the Lake Bittersweet series and we meet Jenna and Billy as they are given a second chance in marriage in this book. I really liked Jenna and Billy and their kids, this is a really unique story between two the exes who share two children, and they are still very good friends who support and love each other even after their divorce. Jennifer had penned it so well that you can feel their special relationship and their love when you read it as it comes off the pages. One of the best second chance romance books that I have read this year.
Thank you to Jennifer Bernard and 1852 media for the eARC provided for an honest opinion.
Jenna and Billy married young, didn't handle the success of Billy's career well and have pasts that left marks on how they deal with life and relationships. They are experts at co-parenting, at helping each other out but always in the best interest of the family. The attraction between them is still strong despite being divorced. As they deal with a history making snowstorm, parts of their pasts become clearer and they'd both really like a do-over. Can they get past the doubt that tore them about and what about a crazed fan?? Always fun to go back to Lake Bittersweet and catch up with a great cast of characters. Hope this series goes on for a long time! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Billy Cooper's story, yay! This was Billy and Jenna's story, where we get their complete backstory, which helps the reader recognize the maturity that they have both developed, going from teenagers, crazy in love, who married way too young, to adults with two children, trying to navigate the minefield of emotion, as they attempt to repair Billy's public image by pretending to be a "cool" divorced couple who have co-parenting down to a T, all while being filmed, step-by-step for a documentary. Oh, and don't forget about throwing in trying to identify Billy's crazy stalker, too, while fighting the sizzling chemistry between them that had never gone away. What could possibly go wrong with this scenario?? A crazy good book! I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
It had been way too long since I’d read a Jennifer Bernard book, and this story reminded me why I love her writing. Great cast of characters, emotions you both read and feel, perfect mixture of fun, sweet and hot. The Do-Over is Billy and Jenna’s story, sweethearts who married young, had two adorable boys, and let the realities of life somehow become more overwhelming than their love for each other. Billy’s pro-baseball career and Jenna’s anxiety weren’t a great mix and led to a divorce, but they are making the best of co-parenting. When Billy needs Jenna’s help to improve his image & they get caught in a winter storm away from their kids, their divorce rules fly right out the window & back into the bedroom where they are a perfect match. I absolutely loved this second-chance romance!!
Billy and Jenna are a couple who are divorced, and co-parenting, and when an opportunity of a lifetime comes up for baseball star Billy, he know Jenna will have his back. Billy with Jenna wants to prove that he has redeemed himself and rehabilitated his reputation. These two still love each other, but someone is determined to sabotage any chance of them being together. This is a well written story which has family, friendships, emotions, challenges, humor, witty banter, undeniable chemistry, second chances, twists, and love, which leads to an entertaining and heartwarming addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
These characters in the Lake Bittersweet stories just keep getting better! I have to say Billy Cooper and Jenna Scarlett Cooper were perfect for each other – even as ex’s. They just hadn’t figured it out, together, yet. Their lack of self-confidence (?) in themselves, their lack of trust in their love for each other and their family, broke my heart. Their two boys, Zach and Bean, are adorable. Such a great family!
They broke my heart but ultimately, they figured it out and glued the fam back together. I just wanted to jump in front of them to protect them from “the bad”. But never fear, they manage to work together and get their do-over. Loved this family!
If you love second chance romances, I highly recommend The Do-Over. This is Billy and Jenna’s story and I couldn’t read it fast enough. This is a steamy romance about co-parenting after getting a divorce. Jenna and Billy should be role models to all the divorced parents on how to achieve this. I’m not going to leave any spoilers about how they get their second chance, but I will say Jennifer Bernard did an amazing job with this book. If you enjoy this book and haven’t read Billy’s brothers books, I highly recommend them also. My favorite is Galen’s book, The Crush.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book and this my voluntary and honest review.
