My nine year old daughter and I continue to devour this series. The books are short and very well done. The different perspectives from the heroes keeps the story fresh and exciting as the overall story moves along. We can't wait to start the next one in the series.

I really like this series and the books are still going strong. My biggest criticisms are that Stone relies too much on making the characters have animal traits that are extreme and unrealistic (the dog is super annoying with this) and I don’t like that everyone in a family has the same traits and looks the same, again it is unrealistic. If Stone could tone down these two flaws these books would be truly amazing. I am enjoying the stories, but there is a lot of eye rolling at the descriptions.
Kali ini Seh (Snake) yg menjadi pemeran utamanya. Sbg murid yg paling peka, Seh menarik perhatian para ular, malah saat menolong seekor ular malah akhirnya tuh ular bercokol terus di tubuh Seh.
Terpencar dgn saudara-saudaranya sejak Mahaguru tewas membuat Seh memiliki petualangannya sendiri.
Selamat membaca.
Seh (snake) and his brothers Malao and Fu still battle Ying but now have the support of their newly discovered parents. Escaping another battle they meet at a festival only to be betrayed. Another fast paced adventure.
A direct continuation from the previous book, so there's not much I can say without spoiling the story. I will say this: I'm totally hooked. Excellent series.
Seh, the main character in this, the third book, in The Five Ancestors series was certainly a more believable Kung Fu master than his fellow monks, Fu and Malao. Seh's actions were more cautious, methodical, and deliberate than Fu's or Malao's, and I thought that this character anchored the story (to this point) and kept it from floating off into silliness with Malao or into broody cantankerousness with Fu.
Snake also puts to rest another of my complaints about the series up to this point: it is suddenly becoming much harder to tell friend from foe. This serves to keep our monks on their toes, and to not underestimate anyone they meet on their travels. Seh is particularly good at this, and you would think that with all of the trouble that has befallen Fu and Malao up to this point they would do a better job of emulating Seh, but they don't. Still, the point is made in this book that a good martial artist doesn't let his or her guard drop.
In this book a ton of supporting characters were introduced. I think that if I had read this book instead of listened to it on audiobook it would have been easy to become confused by this rapid introduction of so many new characters. Kiki Barrera, though, did a good job of making the voices for these new characters distinctive, so I didn't have too hard of a time keeping track of them. With the introduction of the new characters came the introduction of females. I had complaints about the denigration of the feminine in the previous two books, but that was nowhere in sight in Snake. All of the females in this book were tough, and all held their own against their opponents. Thank you, that's all I ask.
The main issue I had with the book is that it contained a lot of twists and turns, and I'm no longer quite sure what the monks view as their objective. There's been a lot of running around the countryside, and it doesn't seem to have really served a purpose or forwarded the story much. I am hoping that the objective will start to firm up and become more clear in the next book. I'm sure it will. It seems to be the case that with every complaint I've had with this series Jeff Stone has answered with the next book in the series.
Kan. Now, I'm craving for Crane!
Namanya Long, Seh, Hok, Fu, dan Malao.
Yang membuat saya penasaran justru bagaimana nasib Long. Kemana anak itu ya? Tidak sabar menunggu giliran Long untuk diceritakan.
At last, 3 dari 5 bintang juga untuk Seh. I liked it :)
Snake is the 3rd book is the exciting series "Five Ancestors", by Jeff Stone. After the temple is attack Seh like his other brothers is out there by himself. Instead of retracing his past like his brother, Seh is looking to gather information. He comes across many people int his book with information that he needs. In this book is reunited with his brother Malo and they continue the journey together.
As the other book Monkey, this book was very eventful. I love how not to far into the story how it is already full of action and many questions are answered. One thing about this books is things that happened in Monkey are explained in Snake, such as how Malo and his brother reunited. The many different character is this book and the fighting styles were very interesting as well. After reading this book I want to find the rest to see if the brother come together to defeat Ying.
There was nothing that I didn't like about this book. It was very adventurous which I love, and it just made me want to finish the book from the start. I would surly recommend this series to young boys who are into martial arts or Chinese action books. If you are looking for a good series to read this book is for you.
I'm not certain how I feel about this book now that I have finished it.
In the beginning I found myself feeling bombarded with information, either as a rehashing of what had happened in previous books or as a way of hurrying along to the next part of the plot. I felt almost as if I was being pushed along on this maddening experience without getting much chance to breathe. Once we reached an actual plot point for the Snake character, however, things calmed down a little and I settled into reading. There were several times where I felt characters were still being thrown at me and the twists and turns of the plot were very reminiscent of a snake slithering along in the woods, but on the whole I eventually found a comfortable place with the journey the book was putting me on.
I deeply enjoy the series and found the end of the book left me hanging, wanting to know what more there is to discover about each of the animals to come. Hopefully there will be a little more balance and a little less rush in the next book of the series. Either way, this is an action-packed, fun read for martial arts fans and I can't wait to see what happens next.
Unlike his brothers Fu and Malao, Seh (the "snake") is much more detached and logical. His first thoughts upon the temple's destruction are how he can turn the situation to his advantage. And so begins a curious journey through a bandit's lair and the perils of family. As Ying and his devastating qiangs continue to reshape the world, can the boys continue to survive?
After two impulsive main characters, Seh was a nice change. He's solitary, preferring nature to people, and he's got a few tricks other than kung-fu. Sensing chi is fairly typical of martial arts stories, but it is nice to see the series branching beyond the merely physical.
The convoluted plot is still unfolding. Tonglong is ascending at Ying's expense . . . but are his motives good or evil? It is a little amusing the scrolls are doing as well as they have been, considering how much they've been manhandled, dunked in water, and so on. There is a small amount of overlap with the previous books but most of this is new material.
For those who liked the first books, this one continues to drive a strong story. It will be interesting to see how the intrigue plays out. I rate this book Recommended.
I love the way all of the book in The Five Ancestors series intertwine. Things happen in Tiger that are explained in Monkey. Then things happen in Monkey that are explained in Snake. I really enjoy all of the different character and the plethora of fighting styles. Now that the first three characters are back together again, I have hope that they will find their other two brothers and be able to defeat Ying and his thirst for knowledge about the fighting style of the dragon.
Jeff Stone has created a series unlike any other. There are no video games, no cell phones, no computers, no hip hop...none of the things that kids love today. After all, the story takes place in China in the year 1646. Kids should love all of the kung fu in the story and the very quick pace of the book.
Overall, Snake is another wonderful addition the The Five Ancestors series and I cannot wait to find out more about Hok because he, oops...I mean she, hasn't been seen since the attack on the Cangzhen Temple. I need Crane now!
Snake is the 3rd installment in The Five Ancestors series. After the destruction of their Temple, Cangzhen, the young warrior monks split up to reach the next Temple. In Snake we see the reuniting of Seh (snake), Fu (Tiger), Malao (Monkey) and eventually Hok (crane). The only brother missing is Ying, who is now their enemy for killing their Grandmaster.
Seh has found his father, Mong, a bandit. The young monks link up with Mong to defeat their common enemy Ying and the emperor. It is also brought out that Hok has a secret that was quite a surprise.
The Five Ancestors series is a fantastic adventure series for students reading at a 5th - 8th grade level. Boys as well as girls will enjoy reading The Five Ancestors. This series is especially going to be on interest to the boys. The is a great deal of action, Kung Fu, battles and adventure. It is a series that would be great for reluctant readers.
Snake by Jeff Stone was and continues to be my favorite of the series so far, but perhaps that's because I identify with Seh, the Snake Kung Fu artist the most. Having said that, Snake is certainly the most action heavy so far of the series, or so it seemed to me. The action starts flowing quickly as Seh meets up with the bandits described in Book 2 : Monkey. Again, allies are made, those once thought to be friends plot against and betray our heroes and the family ties and criss-crosses develop even further. Snake, however, introduces a bulk of flavorful characters that make this book one of the best. From mysterious yet helpful bandits like Mong (Python), Gao (Dog) and N'gung (Centipede) to treacherous villains like Hung (Toad) and AnGangSeh (Cobra), the cast of characters expands for the better in Snake.
Snake, book 3 in the 5 ancestors is about 12 year old Sa or snake who when told to scatter into the 4 winds by grandmaster, save China and soften his lost brother Yings heart, Sa runs for his life and into the forest. But Sa has a secret,he is a dealer of secrets. Often when Grandmaster talked in secret, Sa would spy and listen in on him and learn his secrets. But now Sa must find some one to trust to share his secrets with, because those secrets just might save China and pinheaded Ying for that matter. Once again Jeff Stone has made this book so that you can't put it down. Read to see what happens next.
This one gets a little confusing, partially just due to the convergence of characters with similar names, and the fact that many of the characters now have TWO names. Some good action at times and also some humor (Inevitable whenever Malao, the Monkey-brother is around) make it still worth reading, and some twists at the end make you hold out hope that the next book will be better again--up to the level of the first two books, which I did like a little more. Hopefully the series is not running out of gas, because there are still several books to go.
*highfive*
Secrets. Thats what Seh, the snake style kung fu artist likes. And he will uncover many in the third book of the five ancestor series. Set in1646, a group of young warrior monks have their lives turned upside down when thier temple is raided and their grand master killed. Now Seh, with the help of Malao (monkey), and Fu (Tiger) are going to meet up with his father and his group of bandits. Along the way, Seh meets his mother, meets back up with Hok (crane) and clashes with Tonglong. I personally love this series, and you should defiantly read this book.
Twelve-year-old Seh is a snake-style master and a keeper of secrets. Close-lipped and ever-watchful, he has used his highly attuned senses to collect information about his brothers, his temple, and even Grandmaster. Now, with the temple and Grandmaster gone, Seh sheds his orange robe like an old skin, joins a bandit gang, and meets a mysterious woman whose name means Cobra—all the while trying to stay one step ahead of vengeful Ying!
This book is the third book in the Five Ancestors series. All of books are told from a different person's point of view and this one is from Seh's point of view. This book fills in the gaps the others have left and this book has a lot of adventure, excitment and betrayal. There are new characters introduced and old characters are reintroduced. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes action packed books such as The Lightning Thief.
Again, Jeff stone made a new main character and I am learning a lot of each person throughout the book. I think this book was the best because it was really surprising the when I found out that Seh mom was the bad guy and was cheating on the dad. Also I found out that Seh had a step brother named Tonglong. Even though they are the bad guys, they have the same goal, to defeat Ying. There is some action in this book, but it is very detailed and it make the book good.

Oh my gosh this is the best five ancestors book yet. In this book another temple gets destroyed and seh has no where to go. Until he joins that group of bandits and is part of there stronghold. At there secret place he meets a weird women and her name means cobra. This book has some of the strangest and most exiting things in any of the books. On the other hand secrets are revealed and someone is a girl!
