THEIR MUTUAL ATTRACTION WAS INFINITELY TEMPTING AND UTTERLY IMPOSSIBLE!
Sarah knew that a proper Baltimore miss shouldn't even glance at a man who had lost all his clothes, but the barefaced truth was that this man appeared to be the only thing standing between her and disaster. Sarah Ross Harris was a beautiful idiot, Wes Powell reasoned. Who else would argue with a buck-naked stranger while fleeing an Indian attack? How on earth would the two of them ever survive the dangers that lay ahead, let alone the fire that burned between them?
Sarah Ross Harris' real father was a British General during the War of 1812. Raised in Baltimore, she was a self-centered beautiful miss who was starting to get a reputation. When her parents decided to move to Oregon in 1836, they forced her to go. Two weeks out of Independence, their train is attacked by Sioux while Sarah is at the river. She is meanwhile, confronted by a naked Wesley Powell at the end of his 50 mile run away from Sioux captivity. Wesley is a surveyor and also the illegitimate sone of a general. These two join forces reluctantly, escape the Sioux, are captured and escape the Mandan and eventually join back up with her family and his surveying team. A year later they are finally reunited in Washington.
Interesting story. I enjoyed it from the first page to the last but there were weird parts of it. It is a quick read with great characters and a lot of action.
