Blurred Lines

Rate this book
Em, Alden, and Kade have spent the last six months in switzerland, navigating their relationship together. After seemingly endless twists and turns, it feels like things will finally work out for them. Now that they’re home, there's just one thing they can't forget, no matter how much they'd like to. Jaden is a looming threat, even though he's been silent ever since Halloween. They're not naïve enough to think he'd give up on Em. All they can do is wait for him to make his next move. The situation is taking its toll on all of them; Em's state of mind is trending downward, Kade's mysterious past is threatening to drown him, and Alden feels responsible for holding all of them together. When Em receives a mysterious gift, she starts a game that was set up just for her. She could never say no to a good old-fashioned puzzle. What happens when she reaches the finish line, though? Sometimes things aren't always what they seem, but does it change anything in the end?

I don’t know how this author does it! A game just for her, kind of gave Knives Out vibes / Hawthorne legacy if that makes sense. I really enjoyed this and the characters, pulled me in!

I received this ARC for an honest review, all thoughts/opinions above are my own!

Em is comfortable with Kade and Alden: their relationship is punctuated with her highs/ lows and their efforts to keep her as even keeled as possible. Mental illness is such a maelstrom of emotions, feelings, and physical manifestations that everyone is affected. Her men seem to work together in her best interests, but it takes a toll. Add in Jaden and the stresses of his crazy makes life even more difficult.

Madilyn DeRose is unbelievably adept at conveying the frustration, anger, drama, and love that Em, Alden, and Kade have for each other. The guys are protective, passionate, and patient with her and she appreciates them most of the time. There’s humor between them and it’s funny when she argues with herself, Lizzy. The sex is naughty, deliciously dirty, and I love Madilyn’s approach! I just want more of these characters and their twisty turny life!.

I signed up for this ARC & then after the fact realized it was a series. So, I went back and started from the beginning & I am so GLAD i did because the storyline that led up to Blurred Lines was absolutely incredible. Madilyn DeRose has a way of making her characters so raw and full of emotion that it brings your own feelings and emotions into the story with them and it is just a full journey. I recommend starting from the beginning because it really was worth it.

This dark romance deals with a lot of different triggers but one big one is mental illness, so read the trigger warnings because this series will DRAG you into the book and put you right into the shoes of each and every character, Em, Alden, Kade, Jaden.. & it will be a hundred percent worth it. I can’t wait for the installment!

✨ARC Review✨

I went into this book hating one man with a passion.
I ended it feeling so much love for him. 😭

I think I loved this book better than the first two. There are lil twisty turnys that get you sucked in and you can’t even imagine what could happen next.
The way Madilyn writes is just so relatable I struggled to put it down for a hot minute.
Add in the spice this has and it is *chefs kiss* 🤌🏻

Nothing cracks my cold dead soul, but my eyes may of getting watery at the end. 🥺

I can’t wait to read more because that part at the end?! Ugh, need answers! 🖤

I read the blurb for this ARC and really wanted to explore the seemingly contradictory descriptions the author is giving of what this story "is..." however, I hadn't read the first 2 books, so I did request review copies of those from the author which she graciously provided, and which are available from KU. PLEASE read the first two books if you haven't, because while you could understand and appreciate this book as a standalone, the whole series is a masterpiece. Like I said, I wanted to see how these seemingly contradictory descriptions could exist in this story, and they do.... this is one of the most emotionally complex and mentally challenging stories/series I've ever read; in all the best ways. This author has a magical touch with immersing the reader in the abyss of the mental state of these characters and making it realistic in a way that's sometimes disturbing, but is truly exceptionally well-done. The writing is so well-done; it flows naturally; there is no difficulty following the story despite the intensely complex plot and cast of characters, and despite the length of each story, everything is so compelling and engaging, you can find yourself at the end without realizing you've devoured the entire novel--it's almost like a worm hole; you open the book and suddenly you're finished, and wondering what the heck even happened, because there is SO MUCH HAPPENING! I'm still trying to process my own feelings about everything, and I am torn... I am also eager to see what's next. Do yourself a favor and read this series, but do heed those trigger warnings if you have any sensitivities; for me, it wasn't too much, but it's a lot.

Holy Hot Bälls of FIRE.

I thought SR (book 2) took me on the rollercoaster of my life. Blurred Lines has me questioning my sanity. As it has been in all 3 FYTA books thus far, it is so easy to put myself into Em’s shoes and relate to her in some way or another.

When you battle a plethora of mental health diagnoses, your inner dialogues can sometimes be very unkind to you or have you spending so much time gaslighting, second-guessing, and manipulating yourself. We’ve seen much of Em’s inner dialogue, Lizzy, already throughout the series. However, in this book, we also got to take a dive into Jay’s inner dialogue - Jay being the villain in Em’s story.

Madilyn does such a superb job switching perspectives and characteristics between each of the MMC’s POV’s! It really makes you feel like you are part of the storyline or at least can relate to it in a lot of ways.

Blurred Lines had me on my toes, clenching my teeth, and wanting to scream, cry, and throw my Kindle at times. It is full of twists and turns, some predictable events and some you never saw coming.

Be sure to read the trigger warnings!!

I am in love with this series. The books all end with cliffhangers that make you want to find out what is next. Once I started reading this third book in the series, I couldn't stop. I actually stayed up all night reading it and finished it in 24 hours. The plot, its twists and the book's characters bring this together in such an emotional way, you can't help but get wrapped up in their lives. I am looking forward to book 4 of the series. I just can't stay up two nights in a row!

If you haven't read the books prior to this one, be sure to start at book 1. I loved this book as I believe you would as well if you allow yourself to get emotionally wrapped up in the characters' lives.

I am so happy that I received an advance copy for free. I am leaving this review voluntarily and hope that it helps!

The way.....this book HURT. I mean it fucking hurt. Good lord. I need a do over where that isn't the end.
I fell in love with em and alden and Kade. I really did. The trio absolutely lives rent free in my head. I won't deny it. They all are complex and emotionally driven in a way that is far too relatable for comfort at times. Though they aren't why I'm rating this a 5 stars. Not even close.
Jaden Enger. I was on a hate train originally for this morally messed up man in book 1. Book 2 made me question so many things.
This book...is aptly named. Blurred lines. I'm routing for Jaden every time no questions. A man that I feel is misunderstood is so many ways and battles way too many demons. Madilyn did a fantastic job of blurring those lines and tossing any previous notions about this character right out of the window. I however want justice for that man. I really do. 😭
The villian often has my vote. Jaden is my villian and make no mistake this book is not for the faint heart and should not just be read with any notion it's light or a great story of overcoming our brain demon. No, it'll gut you. And when you think it's done, it'll gut you again. You've been warned.

If you love dark romance.... you can not sleep on this book! ( Also, to fully appreciate it and understand the story, please check out the 1st two titles in the series)

This one has some heavy triggers, so be mindful and protect yourself.

Yall, this book is 🥵🥵🌶🌶

And I feel so ashamed to admit it... but it had my emotions all over the damn place. Had me nearly rooting for characters I know damn well I shouldn't be!

This is the third book of this series and without question my favorite. I really need to reflect on this book and apparently on myself ( haha). I'll be back asap with a full review for this and the previous titles 🖤🖤

Wow! So just like the previous books, this one is AMAZING! This one is just as emotional, and intense as the previous books. This one I felt is more of a mind blower! Honestly this series is a fantastic dark romance, and Im still in shock over it!

This Dark Contemporary Romance is an intense read that shocks you consistently.
This is book 3, and just like the last 2 HEED THE TRIGGER WARNINGS.
This book will have your heart racing with its descriptive spicy scenes.
The emotional complexity of the characters grows exponentially chapter after chapter.
The story picks up where book two left off, adding new astounding twists and turns.

At this point in the ride, Em is still her cray-cray self but she has two men that help to contain the madness before it blows up into a crazy cluster feck. They are all learning the ins and outs of their relationship, as well as what is important. But some things are outside of their control, though.

Everyone in this series continues to be beautifully tragic; characters that are in some way mentally or emotionally broken. It's a series you will either love or hate.

Let’s be honest, at one point I didn’t know who I was rooting for anymore! So many emotions of love, betrayal, forgiveness, and tragedy. Em is facing her trauma, Jay. Alden and Kade are miserable and worried out of their minds while em is “missing”. Todd is along for the ride. This novel opens more into Kade and his past while figuring out his future with em and Alden. I’m hoping to see a 4th book more on Marcus and Todd’s stories!
I received this book as and arc for an honest review

OMG. The trio has finally found their happy place, but on the edges of their consciousness, the threat of Jaden is always lurking. Trying to live their lives knowing that he is out there somewhere scheming to get to Em keeps them on edge.

Madilyn really manages to send the feelings of her characters to her reader, with the emotions flying in every direction in this book. The next part of this series is scheduled for June and I will try to recover from this one until then.

Well, this book just destroyed every emotion I have. Madilyn has a way with words that can have you laughing one minute, seething with anger the next, and then sobbing a minute later. This series has quickly become my favorite read to date. Em, Alden, and Kade are a tragically wonderful trio. I know there's more to the story, and I know I won't be able to emotionally prepare for it.

She never knows which way to turn or which way to look and that alone would cause me anxiety let alone the past seems like it's never far behind these three.

Blurred Lines kept me feeling very conflicted. I loved this book and love this series, however I would highly recommend checking trigger warnings prior to reading. I am looking forward to the next book! I am hoping that there is more of Todd in the next book.

Now the 3rd book 🥵💀. This book she’s learning Jay is ready to play games and show himself. She must fully come to terms with that he has done. He’s playing the game and calls their relationship love and tragedy. Does she forgive him? Does she fall in love with him? Those are the questions you have to ask. Alden and Kade began to get closer in this book as well. They finally say I love you to each other and you get some Smokey scenes of just them 🥵. You see that Jay is more mentally unstable than Em he’s obsessive, he calling shots and has a plan. No one is safe from him and they have to watch who they trust. You will not see what happens so do not guess! This book had me in my feelings for a fat minute I have to say this book toys with your non toxic emotions and toxic emotions. Now y’all we see a lot of Todd in this book and I’m totally here for it will he become the 4th in the relationship in book 4? Kade and Todd are very good friends and they confide in each other but will it become more? Amazing loved this series! Kade opens up about his past and it is such such a sad story 😭 this book is car crash of WTF! Then is end with MarAres saying that Jay definitely left a mess behind in his wake for him. I literally can not for that character he is mmh amazing and I know his story will destroy me. I can’t wait for that roller coaster. Hopefully book 4 shows the funeral with how the Alden’s family and I need it to end with a bow on top that everyone in their polyrealtionship is happy. But I know there will be nothing but emotional mess of a book with a great ending and we move to Mar books. I can’t wait to see Becca and Mar have their own book 🥹

Our villain Jay comes out to play with us. He sets up a game for Em and plays on her weakness. Alden and Kade began to get closer and open up to each other. You see many mental battles from all our characters. Jay is unstable and no one is safe. Todd is fully invested. He becomes close to the trio outside of the office. This book had me confused about my feelings about Jay just like Em. The name of the book is spot on. So many blurred lines. Those brain demons can really destroy you when you can't control them. This book will take a knife and stab you in the ribs leaving you bleeding and questioning everything. Stay buckled into that rollercoaster because it's about to take a crazy cluster of wtf ride! Now waiting with the tissue nearby to be emotionally destroyed with book 4. (needing it yesterday!)

Fav Quote:
"All your life you've been told something is wrong with you. I accept all of you. They think they can handle you. But, Em, I'll fucking set you free."

"Fuck, Switzerland. There's an angel in our bed. She's the most beautiful creature I've ever come across. Fucking stunning."

My Rating System:
1 star: Probably DNF - Lacks structure - Grammatical Errors - Boring characters
2 stars: Not a fan - Struggled to finish - Won't reread - Lacked personality - Lacked storyline
3 stars: Neutral - Underwhelmed - Nothing special - Like the book but we're still troubled by a few components
4 stars: Enjoyed - Concept unique - Dialogue felt real - Invested in characters - Missing cherry on top
5 stars: Creme de la creme - It's addictive - Emotional Impact - Highly Recommend - Feels like you are part of the book

That was one messed up beautiful car crash of a book. I don’t know how I feel, my brain is still reeling like I have just lived every moment with them.

This is a book that will stay with you for a long time, the characters are so real and raw and it’s not an easy read in places but definitely worth sticking with.

The one wonder I am left with is was this the last book in the series? It ties up all the plot lines but still feels like there could be more to the story.

Definitely an auto buy author for me. Very highly recommended.
