High school teacher Brooklyn Briggs has always been great with chemistry but terrible with relationships. When a guy drops into her life—literally—and offers to coach her into getting a date with her longtime crush, she's willing to accept any help she can get.
Even if her new flirting coach is her brother Houston's best friend, the guy who drove her crazy all throughout high school.
Jordan Torres never expected to see Brooklyn again. After the way he teased her in high school, she has every right to hate him. But despite warnings from her brother, he's drawn to her in a way he's never been before and can't seem to remember that she's in love with someone else.
Neither can she.
Both of them value their relationship with Houston too much to risk things going wrong, but they may not have a choice. The heart wants what the heart wants. Besides, Brooklyn can't turn a blind eye to perfect chemistry.
Books in the Love in Sun City series are tied together and overlap but can be read in any order or as standalones. They contain minimal to no swearing and no explicit content.
For the smart girls. The people pleasers whose chaotic lives leave them aching for structure. For the girls unlucky in love, whose insecurities stole their spark. For the hearts that when life beat them down one time too many lost a part of themselves. For the girls who aren’t the same girls they used to be… but want to get back to her again. This one’s for us. 💛
I say this every time—Dana is a rom com queen! Each new story blows me away, every.single.time.
Brooklyn was such a darling! She’s brilliant (a female STEM teacher), sweet, awkward with men, and technologically cursed. Her chaotic childhood left her longing for structure & her jerky boyfriends shattered her confidence. Seeing Jordan encourage her to be assertive about her abilities and what she wants and helping her rediscover the version of herself she used to be was so sweet. 😭
Speaking of Jordan… this man was a dear! He’s Houston’s best friend and their relationship is so much fun. Jordan bends over backwards trying to help his family and trying to savage a relationship with his youngest brother. He’s got his issues, but his growth is lovely to see. Plus, he’s so wonderful with Brooklyn. Like, ahhhhhh! The way he teases her and cares about her and calls her Queens? Yup. 🤭
Also, random aside, that bombshell Jordan dropped over that salmon omelet? Pretty sure I choked as hard as Brooklyn did. 😂
And lastly, talk about an ending to end all endings! 😂 Dana knows how to write ‘em!
Perfect for fans of chemistry (science & relationships), brother’s best friend, dating lessons, dinosaurs (iykyk), and pranks!
4.5 stars! Very cute brother’s best friend story! Jordan is Brooklyn's brother's best friend. They used to not like each other much when they were younger, but now they are older. I really loved how considerate Jordan was with taking care of Brooklyn when she was injured and helping her "learn to date/flirt." He also helped her with her self-worth. Jordan has made mistakes in the past with being a workaholic but is trying to do better, and Brooklyn helps him as well. I really liked Brooklyn and Jordan's relationship, they just act really natural together, and I loved watching them progress to a romantic relationship. They are really funny and sweet characters. I also liked seeing the Briggs siblings again and seeing Jordan's family. Overall a great read! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 Content: mild sexual innuendos, just kisses(on the more passionate side), ogling
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
I think I end every book by Dana Lecheminant with a smile on my face. But this book? Huge grin. This book had an EPIC ending. But I'm going to stop there with that.
I adored Jordan, but why is it that men always wink in books? I've never once been winked at, except by my brother, and I'm pretty sure that doesn't count. I feel ripped off. He's also so selfless. I just loved him.
And Brooklyn? Her incompetence with technology cracked me UP! And I really need to watch this Pride and Prejudice hand-flex thing. Because.
Every time I turned another page in this book, I got a little sad. It meant that I was getting closer to the end, and I just wanted this one to go on forever. I think it's safe to say that Dana Lecheminant has written another winner.
“Who needs a blanket when they've got Jordan Torres to surround them with the most meaningful compliments I've ever heard. Important, needed, special. Things no guy has ever tied to me and meant it as deeply as Jordan seems to mean it.”
Dana is killing it with this series!! It’s so unlike any series I’ve read and I love how it all ties together! I love the teasers in each story of the other characters, which leaves you wanting to read the others to find out more!
Brooklyn and Jordan’s story was wonderful and packed with so many of my fav tropes, plus so much “chemistry” and fun witty banter! I loved how these characters were more complex and had their own insecurities they had to overcome. Watching them come together and discover the love that was always there was magical!
I laughed so much at these two and loved their story so much! It was fun, sweet and those kiss scenes were scorching!! Even though these books overlap, you can read them in any order. And trust me, you will want to binge them because they are that good!!

Brooklyn and Jordan! Gah, I just love them. Brother’s best friend, friends-to-more vibes mixed with some forced proximity for a super fun, chemistry-filled, swoony story!
Things I Loved: -Queens -Flirting lessons -Misnaming her crush -“Oh wait. She told me I’m attractive. This morning, though I’m not sure I can count it if she’s concussed. Whatever. I’m counting it. Let it be known that Brooklyn Briggs finds me attractive.” -Prom -“‘I think with a little practice you could have every man in Sun City falling in love with you.’ Including me, which absolutely cannot happen.” -Brooklyn’s experiment -SOME onion 😂 -“I’m going to help you, Queens,” I say as I flip the stove back on. “I’m going to help you build up your confidence again and show you that you’re worth more than you feel right now.” -Accidental text -Rick -“Face it, kid. You’re falling for Brooklyn Briggs, and you can’t spend your whole life standing in the middle. You either have to go back the way you came, or you’re going to have to cross to the other side and hope the grass is greener.” -Sprinkler ranting -Jordan: How’s the search for real Brooklyn coming, Queens? -Pranks -“Before I lose myself in my feelings for Brooklyn—before I cross that bridge—I have to make sure my best friend won’t be stuck on the other side by himself.” -“I simultaneously want to challenge her to a prank war and kiss the sneer right off her face. I could probably do both and come out the victor either way.” -Mateo -“We can be a mess together.” -“Brooklyn Briggs, you have no idea how distracting you are. I almost disemboweled a dinosaur last week because of you.” -“I don’t know how you see me so well, but I love you for it.” -Pillow fights -“Don’t make me interpret NASA references.” -The world’s best prank -THE END 😂😍👌
I really love this whole family more and more with every book. Jordan and Brooklyn both have such great character arcs—following along them each acknowledging things they need to work on within themselves, and helping each other get there is a sweet journey—with plenty of fun woven in. I also love how these books are written with overlapping timelines. You don’t have to read them in any specific order, but be aware, you’ll want all their stories no matter which one you start with!
A brother’s best friend romance is just what Brooklyn needs when she finds herself injured and concussed–thanks to this heavenly hunk of a gardener.
🌼I love that Jordan and Brooklyn (aka Queens) have a past full of pranks and subtle attraction that becomes explosive after a hilarious reconnection that had me cackling. 🌼Jordan’s past has built his present and he’s such a great guy, abs and all, but it’s his caring nature and great sense-of-humor that won me over from the start. And can we just mention the Darcy hand flex? 🌼Brooklyn is super smart with a low self-esteem after life has beaten her down. I love her perspective on life and people–bringing them together in unlikely ways and through her fun, creative pranks and down-to-earth nature. 🌼A man who cooks?! Especially waffles?! 😋 🌼Accidental texts, technology challenges, chemistry labs, embarrassing mishaps, dating/flirting coaching, dinosaurs, movie nights, daisies, stolen kisses and more make up this adorably sweet and charming story.
I love that this series is told from each sibling's view and that each book takes place at the exact same time. It’s fun to see how their stories connect and overlap, bringing the Briggs family to life in an incredibly satisfying way.
Content: mild romance
*I received a complimentary copy. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own and were voluntarily given.*
Dana LeCheinant is pretty much a rom-com master in my eyes! She knows how to write a great book and this series has been incredible and intriguing. I love the Briggs siblings and in each book I get to know them a little better. All four of these books happen at the same time and I love seeing how they intersect with each book in the series.
Brooklyn and Jordan go way back! Jordan is Brooklyn's twin brother Houston’s best friend. Jordan moved out of town and Brooklyn hasn’t seen him in years. One thing is for sure she doesn't miss all the teasing and pranks he used to pull in high school on her. When she injures her foot she is forced to spend the weekend with Jordan per her brother's request that Jordan look after her. Jordan agrees to help and also to coach Brooklyn in flirting so she can win over her longtime crush. As the two grew closer they started to develop feelings for each other, but there are several reasons they shouldn’t be together and what will Houston think?
I just loved Brooklyn and Jordan, they had some great chemistry right from the start. Jordan was so kind and considerate when he took care of Brooklyn’s foot and taught her how to flirt. Brooklyn has had a lot of men in her past that weren’t the best for her. I love how Jordan was determined to help her feel loved and know her worth again. He helped her a lot with remembering who she was and what she wanted in life and it was beautiful to watch happen. Brooklyn was an absolute sweetheart. Her issues with technology and texting made me laugh and I can totally relate with her there! I love Jordan’s nickname for Brooklyn, “Queens” Jordan has made some mistakes in his past that Brooklyn is able to help him with. I just loved how these two were there for each other and so natural with each other. The kiss scenes were super swoony and the romance was beautiful! This one just made me happy!
Favorite Moments: Ice cream flavors as curse words Technology hates me (bad text messages!) Switching breakfasts Flirting lessons Accidental Innuendo Hanging up after she tells Jordan she loves him The first kiss
This is the third book in the Sun City series and they can be read in any order. I have fully enjoyed every single one and can’t wait to read book 4!
I received a complimentary copy of this book but also bought a paperback for my shelf. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I think I've found my favorite Briggs sibling! All I knew about Brooklyn was that she's super smart but really bad with technology--she has so much trouble just texting, but there's so much more to Brooklyn!
Brooklyn and Jordan have known each other since high school--he's her twin brother's best friend--but they haven't seen each other in 10 years. Until the day Brooklyn falls and hits her head so Jordan comes in through the basement window! What a way to get reacquainted!! Because of a concussion, an injured foot and overprotective brother, Jordan ends up staying on Brooklyn's couch for the weekend to take care of her.
I loved how Jordan realized something was different about Brooklyn; she wasn't the same spunky girl he remembered and he wanted to bring that part of her back. Brooklyn's last relationship ended badly and did a number on her self-esteem and I loved how Jordan helped her find her confidence again. "Nobody gets to decide your value except you."
Jordan is a sweetheart who works hard trying to help his family. He's an awesome cook and who doesn't love a man that can cook? He and Brooklyn had amazing chemistry (no pun intended) and I loved all the teasing between them.
What I loved: 🧪 Brooklyn's food cursing 🦖 Forced proximity 🧪 Flirting lessons 🦖 Sibling text thread 🧪 Brooklyn's technology issues 🦖 Jordan cooks 🧪 Brooklyn's experiments
Each book makes me love this series more. These books can be read in any order because the stories of the Briggs siblings happen at the same time. It's fun to see all the different siblings' viewpoints; I can't wait to get Houston's story and find out what started the Halloween food fight! Do yourself a favor and start reading this series, you won't be sorry!
Every time I read a book in this series I think, this one is my favorite! Jordan and Brooklyn in this one guys! *swoon* I didn't want it to end! Trust me, you will want to read this series!
I received an ARC from the author and all opinions are my own.
High school chemistry teacher Brooklyn Briggs is home sick one day when she's startled into a nasty fall by a man working outside her window. It turns out to be her twin brother Houston's best friend, Jordan Torres, who recently moved back to their hometown of Sun City and started his own landscaping business. Back in high school, Jordan drove Brooklyn crazy with his teasing and pranks, so she's not exactly thrilled to see him again. Unfortunately, her injuries from the fall are no prank, and she's going to need help getting around until she recovers. Houston's out of town, so Jordan reluctantly agrees to take care of Brooklyn.
Considering their history, Houston's warning that his sister is off-limits should be unnecessary, but there's something about Brooklyn that has always attracted Jordan. The problem is that she has a crush on her co-worker Mark. When Jordan accidentally finds out about her crush, he impulsively offers to give her flirting lessons to help win Mark over. It's not long before their pretend flirting starts to feel like the real thing, but both Brooklyn and Jordan are afraid of risking their relationship with Houston. Can they find a way to move forward together?
I adored this funny, sweet, and heartwarming story. Brooklyn and Jordan both had a lot of baggage from their past relationships, but I appreciated that they were able to see beyond each other's flaws and imperfections to what was really important. Their personalities were a perfect balance and I loved how they supported and built each other up when needed. They truly made a wonderful couple and I was rooting for them the whole way.
I highly recommend "Crossing the Brooklyn Briggs" for all sweet/closed-door contemporary romance and romantic comedy fans. I can't wait to get my hands on the next book in the series, which will feature Brooklyn's brother Houston.
*Review copy provided by the author. All opinions expressed are my own.
I absolutely adored this book. This is one of her longer books in the series. And the length of it made me want to just savor it. I spent many moments grinning, laughing out loud, or sighing in contentment.
I really enjoyed Jordan‘s character. You can tell he is one of those guys that loves with his full heart and wants to do everything he can to help and be there for everyone even when that puts so much on him. He was definitely a workaholic and throughout the book it was nice to see him sort it out with Brooklyn’s help.
Brooklyn has got to be one of my favorite FMC because she was just adorable. She was a disaster with technology. It made me laugh with the things that she would do with her phone. She seemed like such a generally good person with a bit of low self-esteem. Especially with her work. Her confidence in herself was low, but as the book moved forward, she was able to gain it all back; with Jordan‘s help and also on her own.
I enjoyed reading about all of the Briggs sibs and meeting Jordans family. And the epilogue was epic!
Even though all these books can be read as a standalone, I really like how this one built up her brother, Houston’s book. We get to see Houston a little bit more in this one since Jordan is Houston’s best friend and Brooklyn’s twin. I really enjoyed that and I cannot wait. It made me excited.
Highly recommend this book and all of Dana’s books!
Oh my goodness. How do these books possibly keep getting better and better!? I absolutely loved Brooklyn and Jordan's story.
First, its so fun that they have this long history that they see differently. Brooklyn is changing how she sees Jordan and his teasing in this story. And Jordan has always loved Brooklyn on some level. It's so fun to see how their history impacts their present but also how they change.
Second, is "dating coach" considered a micro trope of some kind? Because I am here for it! It's not quite fake dating but it seems to lead to real feelings every time. I loved the dating lessons from Jordan and how little touches affect them both.
Oh my word, the way Jordan builds Brooklyn up and helps her see how amazing she is -- so swoony! I loved the way he helps her see her worth and helps her have fun again. She has been burned so many times. But Jordan helps her see that life can still have value and meaning and excitement regardless of the past. I appreciated the ways Jordan is still trying to be better as well. He isn't perfect but he is perfect for Brooklyn.
So fun to see all the Briggs siblings in this one. I am loving the overlapping timelines of these books and how we see the same scenes from different points of view like the trivia night or Chad's Halloween party. Also the epilogue to this one is GOLD!
Dana LeCheminant’s new release, “Crossing the Brooklyn Briggs” is the perfect addition to her Love in Sun City series. It stars Brooklyn and Jordan who have known each other since high school but haven’t seen each other in ten years. Let’s talk about all this goodness!
This is the ultimate brother’s best friend. Not just any brother but Brooklyn’s twin brother. Neither wants to risk hurting Houston or their relationship with him but the tension between these two is intense. I felt like this made for the shortest slow burn in the best sort of ways.
These two have chemistry! That tension I mentioned earlier... Holy cow! I loved it! The flirting lessons Jordan gives Brooklynn. The hate but attraction Brooklynn feels for Jordan. The forced proximity. The foot massages. This book is the definition of all the heat without the spice. I’m still dreaming about this goodness.
“Crossing the Brooklyn Briggs” is the perfect read for anyone who loves romcoms, brother’s best friend, and so many laugh out loud moments. I absolutely loved it! Brooklyn and Jordan’s book can be read as a standalone but I strongly suggest reading the others in the series too. They are all fabulous!
Brooklyn and Jordan are so cute! I always love ma a brothers best friend trope and throw in a little enemies to more and I’m sold! I loved the history between Jordan and Brooklyn as he was her twin’s (Houston) best friend and her nemesis! It was fun to see them reconnect several years down the road and realize maybe the other one isn’t so bad! Now, how to tell Houston!! Super cute!!
This book kept me up way too late but I have no regrets whatsoever.
Brooklyn and Jordan have history...and not the good kind. He's her twin brother's best friend. Their high school years were full of pranks, and then they went their separate ways for a decade, brought back together by the brother they both love and want to protect. When things start to shift between them, will they be willing to risk their best friend's heart and their own?
It took me a minute to get into this one, but after a couple of chapters I was hooked. Brooklyn's inability to use technology drove me absolutely BONKERS. And Jordan was a bit too judgmental about cereal, which is a staple of my diet, so I was a bit irked at him as well. In the end, though, these two characters became my fictional friends and I can happily recommend this book to anyone who wants a Sun City escape this winter.
Thanks to Dana LeCheminant for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own!
This series is so much fun. I love that the 4 stories are stand alone but also intertwine. I am invested in these siblings and want nothing more than to watch them find their HEAs.
If you like brother's best friend, (which I so, so do) proximity, teacher romances, text message bloopers and a seriously swoony gardner, this book is for you, adorable yellow cover and all!
I love how Dana LaCheminant writes the books in this series and weaves the characters and stories together so well. Not only is this book super funny (Brooklyn’s texting alone had me rolling) but has depth and great character growth too and some amazing chemistry between Jordan and Brooklyn. Jordan and Brooklyn’s conversations were great, as they were getting to know each other again with their forced proximity (you will need to read it to see why). The weekend they spent together was the best as Jordan tried to be a flirt coach for Brooklyn. They had great banter too. POV changes are my favorite and this was done so well. Jordan is so smart and he’s such a good guy. Protective and kind. I loved his different M names for Mark. Brooklyn is smart too. I loved that she was up for STEM Teacher of the Year. I appreciate smart characters, even though she is very technically challenged but that’s what makes her lovable. But their chemistry is what I loved the most. Oh and the kissing was “chef’s kiss”. Mateo was also a great surprise and Houston is always fun. I am so excited to read his book next! I received an ebook from the author. All views and opinions expressed are my own.
Crossing the Brooklyn Briggs is part of the Love in Sun City series. While these books could certainly be read as standalones, I think they are best enjoyed together. Each book focuses on a different sibling, but all along the same timeline. As such, there is some crossover between the stories. I've only read a few other books written like this, but I absolutely love seeing the same moments from different perspectives. With each book I've read, it only has me that much more excited to read the next.
This story focuses on Brooklyn and Jordan. I am always a fan of 'brother's best friend' and I felt like this one was done really well. Their chemistry is undeniable, but I really loved how much they both respected Houston too. We've gotten to see a little bit of Brooklyn's technology/text inabilities in the previous books, and I loved getting to see it even more in this one. This certainly lead to some great laugh out loud moments. These two were just so fantastic together and I couldn't help but enjoy every single moment.
Crossing the Brooklyn Bridge is a closed-door romance with amazing chemistry, but kisses only and no language.
**I received an ARC for consideration. All opinions are my own.
I’ve been really enjoying this series centered around the Briggs siblings. I enjoy a brother’s best friend trope and this one was a little different. A little deeper. I loved it.
Brooklyn sees Jordan only as her twin brothers annoying friend that enjoyed pulling pranks on her in high school. He left the area and she hasn’t seen him in years. When he returns the two are thrown together spending a lot of time together. Perhaps he’s more than a prankster. Perhaps he will remind her of who she once was and the dreams she had before life tore her down.
I love when a couple together inspire and support each other. That was my favorite thing about this book. Throw in their fun personalities, their interesting families and some swoony scene for a wonderful page turner. I love it when I can’t wait for the next book!
While this could be read as a stand alone, all of the books in the series take place at the same time, and it’s fun to see little bits of the other siblings and make guesses about what is going on.
This. Quote. This book. So many things to love. So many quotes that should have come out of my husband’s mouth.
Jordan helps his bestie out by taking care of his twin sister when she gets a concussion. They have history. The kind that drives them crazy. Brooklyn asks Jordan to help her know how to attract her crush.
Yep. All the things. All the feelings. I love me a twin story because I have a set so I loved that relationship. I also loved Brooklyn’s personality. She was great to begin with and just became more confident in her own skin. See? Lots to love.
Jordan. Talk about love. Weeelllllll… I’ll just say he’s got the tall dark and hot thing going for him and it’s a super good look. He was so genuinely likable and thoughtful and sweet. His teasing personality never became annoying and he saw people so clearly. And I need my lawn mowed.
I’ve had so much fun getting to know this series. The books stand alone and kind of simultaneously take place at similar times. So enjoy them however you want. And I love the titles!
See if Brooklyn can find the fire that burned earlier in her life. Can Jordan help her light the flame and end her hearts’s strife?
And we’re back with more Briggs sibs awesomeness! I loved getting to know Brooklyn better! And Jordan is basically a charming Knight in Shining Armor. You can’t help but fall in love with these two!
Jordan and Brooklyn have known each other for years and despite the fact that they were “sworn enemies” back in the day and haven’t seen each other in years, sparks immediately start to fly when they are thrown together once again. And it is SO GOOD. The chemistry between these two was amazing! I loved seeing how much they remembered and all that they had noticed about each other all along. They really understood one another and how to be supportive.
There were heavier topics, lots of bright moments, and plenty of fun pranks and swoony romance along the way. You’re going to enjoy the ride! But you might get hungry too… so nachos and waffles are a must! 😂
I received an advanced copy of this book from the author. I was not required to leave a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was just the sweetest!! Okay I now understand why so many voted for Jordan in that contest. I still choose Houston but get it.
I loved Brooklyn and Jordan’s relationship and how they just embraced it. That was probably my favorite part. The story just felt like a coming home. Everything fit.
Possibly spoiler….. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . My favorite was NO THIRD ACT BREAKUP
Favorite parts: 🧪 The window well incident 🦖 Flirting lessons 🧪 Breakfast "date" 🦖The art gallery lesson 🧪 Brooklyn's experiment 🦖 Helping Jordan make dinner 🧪 All of the texting mishaps 🤣🤣 🦖 Brooklyn getting back at Mark 🧪 All of Jordan's names for Mark 🦖 Breakfast with Jordan and Mateo 🧪 Birthday surprise 🦖 Talking with Darcy 🧪 Movie night with Houston 🦖 At the cemetery 🧪 Making waffles 🦖 Trivia night 🧪 Halloween 🦖 The Epilogue
I just loved getting to know Brooklyn and Jordan. Their story is a Brothers best friend with a little enemies to more thrown in.
I love how both Brooklyn and Jordan and things they needed to work on in themselves so that their relationship could be stronger. I also loved how they were able to help each other with those struggles and weaknesses.
I love the banter between them and how their relationship started and then progressed to more.
This is the 3rd book in the Love in Sun City series. It can be read as a stand alone.
I received a copy from the author. All opinions are my own.
Another fun read in the Love in Sun City series featuring the Briggs siblings. In this installment we have Brooklyn and Jordan’s story. The chemistry between these two is off the charts and the story is charming. There were multiple times I laughed till I almost cried and lots of giggly moments too. A story I completely enjoyed. Can’t wait for Hudson’s story!
Brooklyn + Jordon = a fantastic love story! I have been beyond excited to read Brooklyn and Jordon’s story after all the teasers we get of these two in Micah’s and Chad’s books, and let me tell you, this exceeded my expectations! Dana LeCheminant has a wonderful way with words and crafting characters that truly are relatable and unique. I love that Brooklyn is a science nerd who doesn’t read people well but is also still a die hard romantic and loves period pieces. Jordon is an energetic and loyal person who can’t multi-focus well and doubts his ability to truly be there for the people he cares about. I really loved how these two were truly opposites in nearly every way, but that didn’t stop them from connecting. Another thing I loved about this book is that the strength of that connection is on an emotional level. Don’t get me wrong; there is a strong attraction between these two and there is plenty of kissing! But the real highlight between Brooklyn and Jordan was the emotional bond they shared. I loved the tropes in this one, so if you like:
-enemies to lovers -forced proximity -he takes care of her -brothers best friend -best friends little sister -flirting lessons
You will love this book! And there are so many great Briggs sibs moments, and you will be dying to read Houston’s book which will come out next!
Thank you to the author for an arc copy. All thoughts are my own.
Brother’s best friend is my favorite trope, so I’ve been looking forward to this book since Micah’s. I loved the character development of both Jordan and Brooklyn. I also enjoyed all the other returning characters.
Pick this one up if you like the brother’s best friend trope, STEM representation, strong family bonds, or other books written by Dana LeCheminant.
The Love in Sun City series can be read in any order which is super fun. This one is the third to be released.
Thanks to the author for the eARC. All opinions are my own.
CW: kisses/make outs, past bad relationships, past death of a parent, parent with cancer
It is rare that I have time to set an alarm for a book release these days, but I absolutely did for this one.
I cannot wait to read this series in timeline order once we have Houston’s book! — Brooklyn is a teacher. Brooklyn has been in love with chemistry and science since she could remember, it was controlled through her own testing and the environment of research energized her with the promise of using her science to help others, which she lives to do. When a sour relationship destroys her reputation in the research field, Brooklyn defaults to what she knows best; helping others through teaching.
Putting others first has been her downfall in her relationships, unable to accept help/see what she needs as well. Until she is forced to.
Jordan is Brooklyn’s twin’s best friend and has been her biggest tease and she can’t help but fight against him whenever she sees him. So when he suddenly appears in her window well during the day and gives her such a start that she twists her ankle and gets a concussion…Brooklyn is forced to accept his help to survive the weekend and spend time alone with the one person she knows will test her limits…and she kinda loves that. — I am obsessed with this story. It’s fabulous, funny, heartwarming, and reminds me of so many that I know in my real life. I absolutely adore this series and knew from the moment she was mentioned that Brooklyn would be my favorite…and she was.
" She narrows her eyes, as expressive as always. Since the day I met her - one of the better days of my life - Brooklyn Briggs has always been the most easy-to-read person I've ever known. It's strange to think she's twins with Houston, who can hide pretty much anything, because unless she's gotten better at it over the years, Brooklyn broadcasts every single emotion on her face. Every thought."
"The chaos is what makes life interesting," he says, as if that should be obvious. "The most magical moments are unplanned and unexpected."
"I want you to listen to me, Brooklyn Briggs, and listen closely. You're going to change the world one day, whether you're finding the cure to cancer or teaching the kid who figures it out down the road. Whether or not Mark is interested in you has nothing to do with who you are as a person and how much you're worth because nobody gets to decide your value except you. Do you understand me?"
"Jordan wraps me up in a hug so tight that I can't breathe for a second as he pulls me into his chest. Not that I'm complaining. While he held me the other night after Mark was...Mark, it wasn't anything like this. On Tuesday, he was holding me together. Tonight he's holding me close. There's a huge difference, and I feel every bit of that difference in the pounding of my heart while I tuck my head under his chin."
Read if you like: * Brother's Best Friend * Enemies to Lovers * Dual POV * Forced Proximity * Witty banter * Part of a series / can be read as a stand alone
This series is so fun and unique! The way that the timelines/storylines for all of the books overlap without giving away any spoilers is genius!
The development of the relationship between Jordan and Brooklyn, from frenemies to friends to more is so well done.
I loved watching Brooklyn grow in confidence and self awareness throughout the book.
Jordan helping Brooklyn to find herself and reminding her of the bold, dynamic version of her that he remembers is beautiful.

This is book 3 in the Love in Sun City series, and while it can be read as a stand alone, I highly suggest reading the whole series. The absolute genius of this series is that the books all have overlapping timelines and storylines, but can actually be read in any order without too many spoilers.
– this is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone (though all the books overlap & share scenes so it’ll be fun to go between the books to see everyone else’s perspectives on the shared scenes!)
– this is told from Brooklyn & Jordan’s points of view
– multiple characters either know or knew someone going through chemo because of cancer
– it is briefly mentioned that (in the past) a character’s parent cared more about getting a fix than caring for their children & the parent has been in jail for many years
Review:
I stayed up (and wide awake) way later than I expected to just to finish this book! I loved it so so much and found myself laughing immensely at various moments (I couldn’t stop for a bit after finishing the epilogue!). Brooklyn had such great growth in herself and in her awareness of what was going on between her & her coworker that she was crushing on as well as what was going on between her & Jordan. I loved that she grew more confident as she began to recognize different things/cues from Jordan and the other people around her. I loved that Jordan, while feeling a bit put on the spot, went above and beyond when it came to taking care of Brooklyn. I also loved that he was so determined to build her back up to the person she used to be instead of the muted version of herself that she became after multiple bad relationships. If I didn’t have so many other books I needed to read right now, I’d highly consider going back to reread this entire story!
Summary:
Brooklyn doesn’t know what to do. She has had a crush on another teacher that she works with for years but he’s been unavailable until now. Brooklyn can’t seem work up the nerve to have a normal conversation with him, let alone ask him on a date or show her interest in him properly. After mistakenly sending someone else a text about her dilemma, Brooklyn finds herself offered help from a surprising place. Jordan – Brooklyn’s brother Houston’s best friend who also bugged Brooklyn to no end during their high school years – offered to help Brooklyn relearn how to flirt and keep a guy’s attention. Though it’s been awhile and their relationship started off rocky, Brooklyn isn’t about to look a gift horse in the mouth during her time of need…
Jordan knows that Houston would probably kill him if he ever found out what Jordan offered to help Brooklyn do, but Jordan can’t seem to stop himself before the offer is out of his mouth. And while guilt might have played a small part in the offer, the longer Jordan helps Brooklyn with flirting the more he finds himself discovering that he had been falling for her from the start. If only Brooklyn wasn’t learning these skills to win another man…
