Holy Magnolia. I am so unimaginably grateful that I got these books in a set, because if I had to stop reading even for a minute in between, I would have broken down in tears. This was a deep, sweet, thought-provoking and gut-wrenching emotional read that I just did not see coming. But I sure as hell am glad it came my way.

Do you remember your first love? That boy or girl that you liked in a way you weren't quite sure about? The one you wanted to hold hands with and protect, take care of, look out for? Alexa and Carter instantly bonded, and the bond lasted despite his mother's cunning manipulations to drive them apart... until Carter hit the jackpot in his career, moved away and became Aidan. Failing on both an educational as well as a familial level, Alexa moved on, and made something of herself in the make-up world. She and her husband could not be happier.

But two star-crossed lovers that are meant to be cannot be kept away for too long. Crossing paths again has been an experience of roses for Alexa, their love's soft fragrance still lingering in the air, yet her marital betrayal's wicked thorns digging at her sides. And when a new member of the family is on the way, coming clean leaves everyone alone, hurt and in pain. A child is a blessing though, and such is Luke for her - a new light shines in her life, and she is determined to keep it bright.

...until the past comes back with inexplicable vengeance and tears her life apart again.

I didn't read this set. I consumed it. In one breath. One after another the pages lead me through themes, emotions and ideas. Love. Oppression. Tragedy. Betrayal. Humiliation. Treachery. Romance. Justice. And the million dollar question: can we ever be the way we were?

I am struggling to write this review. I have nothing but admiration for Ms. Edlund and the story she has created. I started of rooting for Carter and Alexa, feeling their love building under the mess of adolescent uncertainty. I was saddened by their tragedies, whether by their own choice or imposed by overbearing Monster-Moms. I was pleased they seemed to find some solace and move on with their lives. I was upset and thought the worst of Alexa when she cheated, and blindly enraged with the way Aidan treated her. I have a very sensitive spot when it comes to people who "are no longer available", and he rubbed them all the wrong way.

I was heartbroken about Scotty, glad about Ruth and Isabella, and thankful for Derrick. I was furious at Mary, desperate about Luke, and so cruelly bitter at the act of the ultimate betrayal. Slap my face and call me plot-twist, I did not see that coming... But Karma is nothing if not a bitch, and sometimes the only true absolution comes by lacking a pulse.

What a story. WHAT A STORY! I experienced such a maelstrom of emotions, all so strong in their convictions. It doesn't matter than some of them were negative - the fact that Ms. Edlund's subtle yet oh-so-poignant writing captured me in its net and invoked every single one of them is enough for me to applaud her and rush for the next book of the series.

This is not a book. This is an experience. Don't miss it.

Wow these 2 books had me hook line and sinker, I couldn't stop reading and then 8 chapters of next book left me wanting more. This is a crazy story of Alexa and Carter who meet before 8th grade when he moved across the street. Alexa was a lonely girl and Carter became her best friend and whole world. Her life was torn apart when he left abruptly before the end of their Junior year of high school. One day she saw Carter on MTV now Aiden and his dreams were coming true, her world had fallen apart. Their story goes thru 2 love triangles, Carter's horrible mother- let me say I was very mad at Carter then his mother and wanted to reach into my kindle and punch both of them. The story though tragic, painful, and wonderful keeps a reader wanting to keep going. Looking forward to book 3 I hope it is very soon.
