Mac McGowan has wanted Katie Thompson from afar. When he sees signs that her rockstar boyfriend is abusìng her, he knows it’s time to shoot his shot, albeit unconventionally.
Katie is so incredibly relatable with her lack of self confidence and need to be loved. And Mac… I like your style, Mac. I like your style.
This was my first book from Effie and it will not be my last. Obviously, I started in the middle of the series and while I don’t feel like it was problematic for reading this book, I do want to go back and read the prior releases!

Who loves their stalker though? As Katie fights with herself over her feelings, she knows she has a huge decision to make. Does she give In to her feelings, or do what society tells her is right?
Once she finally figures out the identity of her stalker she has to deal with a whole other set of messes. This book kept me glued to the pages the entire way. And that ending…. 😵😵😵

This was an easy read with some scorching hot smut included. I was in the mood for this type of book and this one managed to scratch that itch. I actually got this one from a book box sub and I was definitely intrigued mostly because of the stalker aspect. it's book three in a larger connected series but I did manage to read this as a standalone with no issues, I'll admit I'd probably have appreciated this more if I'd initially read the first two in the series as there were some recurring characters, so some added background would have made me feel more connection but it can also easily be read on its own.
This focuses on Katie and Mac, there's a criminal element involved and also some history to their story. Mac is the brother of Katie's newish sister-in-law and he's been quietly obsessed with her for the last two years. Not that she has any idea. Katie is oblivious, she's also completely cowed and under the control of her abusive and narcissistic boyfriend who is the lead singer in the band The Gilded Knife, I think the band is called.
Initially, I found Katie hard to relate to, the way she behaved and her mindset were totally battered down, and her self-esteem was in tatters. I do think some of this is down to her background as well as her boyfriend Tommy's treatment, but it was still a hard watch. Also, be aware this book has triggers for SA from Tommy and it's not glossed over either, he's just not a good guy and it does take Katie a while to catch up to that and stop making excuses for him.
Mac inserts himself into Katie's life initially thinking he stands no chance with the girl of his dreams. He mostly wants her to wake up a realise her worth and leave Tommy. Before long his obsessive desires for Katie explode especially when Katie seems to get off on their games just as much as he does. The only issue is she has no idea her mysterious stalker is Mac and when she does realise he knows it will be game over for him. I felt sorry for Mac the guy has it bad and it's obvious he worships the ground Katie walks on.
The smut with this one is on point, totally depraved and contains equal praise and degradation play. This is definitely where this story shines most and I'll be honest this one's more smut than plot, but I enjoyed and appreciated this for exactly what it was. If the plot had been a bit more I would have rated it much higher, but the steam basically carries it. We do have some danger and a slight suspense storyline included but still this one I read mostly for the filth and also because I have a thing for sexy depraved dirty-talking stalkers in masks which I don't mind admitting to you.

ARC REVIEW
Check trigger warnings because there is a lot of SA between the fmc and her boyfriend/ex bf now (Tommy).
I’m heavy on mood reading so if I wouldn’t have read this after a whole bunch of dark romance i probably would’ve loved it more than I did. With that being said it was still good and I would still recommend giving it a shot. Now I do wish that Mac (mmc) and Katie (fmc) had more of a chance to build a connection as themselves. Because most of the connection was built when Mac was still considered the masked stalker that sneaks into her house and gives her what her bf (cheater and a beater I might add) couldn’t. *Cough cough* the big O. Now I will say the spice between the MCs was spicin. Go in expecting about 60/40 to 70/30 spice to plot ratio. It was there and it was doing what it needed to do I just wish there was deeper chemistry. But there was a little bit of a mystery/crime aspect in here but like you guess it fairly quick. Also I just want to say that Tommy deserved what he got. In fact, worse. Much MUCH worse. Just sayin.

This is an interconnected standalone in the McGowan mafia series and I have been loving the audios for this series! This audio is performed in duet by Melissa Maybeck & James Joseph and they did a great job at bringing the story to life! I couldn’t stop listening!

People didn’t like this book but love Haunting/Hunting Adeline is so wild to me. Same basic concept. Stalker romance with degradation. Those asking “why didn’t she just leave?” Clearly have never been in an abusive relationship before.

This is my first book by Effie Campbell, but it won’t be my last. This is book three of a series but it can be read as a standalone. I haven’t read the first two books and it was easy to follow the storyline and the characters. The writing, the depth of the story and the characters are all amazing. It sucked me in and never let go till the end.
The book starts out with Katie dating her rockstar boyfriend Tommy. Shortly into the book you realize that Tommy is not a good guy. Eventually Katie starts seeing that Tommy is not safe to be with and that he is incredibly narcistic. Thankfully Katie’s masked stalker comes to her rescue, as he always does and will. Katie’s masked stalker makes her give into her dark impulses and fools around with the stalker. He makes her feel valued, seen and loved. The story progresses where you find out the stalker is Mac. His intentions are to show Katie that she is worthy of love, pleasure and to be treasured.
Mac is everything, the way he builds Katie up and tells her she deserves to be worshipped and she needs to experience pleasure!! Mac never once did anything Katie wasn’t okay with and he found her hidden desires. I love the fact that he was her sister in law’s brother, it made the stalking better because he had always desired her. My favorite thing about this book was all the spice and how it really makes you feel the characters’ feelings.
The story is very well written with a good plot. It’s written in dual POV, from the main characters Katie and Mac. Make sure to read the TWs of this book, there are moments that definitely get pretty heavy. This was exactly what dark romance is and should always be!! This book had me on fire and literally clenching my thighs and I was not expecting that, lol!! I absolutely loved the chemistry and the spicy scenes between Katie and Mac. If you’re a fan of dark mafia romance with a lot of spice, you will definitely enjoy this. I’m definitely going back to read the other two books in this series!!! Highly recommend this one and again, it can be read as a standalone.

I'm all for an OTT, possessive, morally grey hero, but I almost DNF this one. I liked Mac, but Katie annoyed me way too much. I did feel for her, though; she lost herself somewhere in between being abused and assaulted by her ex-boyfriend (who was her boyfriend 60% of the book). BUT WHY DIDN'T SHE LEAVE HIM!?? HE CHEATED ON HER AND SHE KNEW BUT I don't why she didn't break up with him.
Also there was no plot and more smut and I am ok with that but there was no connection build up between heroine and hero. It was vague and boring. I struggled throughout the book.
One star is for me completing the book.
Second star is for the family members of hero who kept me a bit entertained.

This book is fucking filthy!!! I love it!
You’ll need a partner/spouse/toy/hand on standby when reading this!
For my peeps that love true crime and thrillers, this has those elements too! You get alllll your itches scratched with this one!
There are soooo many scenes that make you go “what the fuck?!” But in a good way!
The title is honestly so perfect for this book that it’s a little scary. When you finish the book you’ll know what I mean, it really applies to so much!
5 phenomenal fucking stars! You have gained a new reader for life and now I have to read the previous books and all the ones that will come after!

I love anything mafia and anything sweet and spicy. I loved this take on a stalker romance with the stalker being the one to protect his girl. very cute and sweet I cannot wait to read the rest of the series!
this book had amazing spice, action, and romance. there were some themes in here that even made me squeamish (I'm a cultured dark romance reader), so make sure to check your triggers. the romance lines were so freaking cute I could scream! I have come to love this author and her writing style.

Wow, what a story! It’s dark, twisted, often scary, but also sizzling hot! I loved this book, the story is unique, beautifully written and hooked me in from the first page. Cannot wait for the next book.

Katie is stuck in an unfulfilled and toxic relationship with Tommy. Only we don't find out just how toxic until later on. He is one dark and twisted dude. Mac has always Katie from afar and yes obsessed. His darkness is different from Tommy's. I highly recommend checking the trigger warnings. It is definitely on the dark side but you can't help but read it having to know how it will end.

Ah, this book had me wanting to find a real-life stalker and keep him hidden in my closet to come out and play at my convenience. The author was somehow able to make men with red flags seem irresistible and downright perfect. Mac helps Katie find her inner strength by unlocking something deeper that she didn't know was hidden. Amazing read!

Firstly, I’m a sucker for reading books where the FMC has the same name as me💅 Yes I have quite a lot of highlights in this book because of it😅
Now this is the third book in the series and also the third book I have read by this author and I have to say that this book is by far my favourite👀
This book follows Katie and Mac and it was an absolute wild one. Mac has been obsessed with his sister in law, practically since he first laid eyes on her and this may have resulted to him taking some drastic measures to get her attention *cough STALKING cough*. It should also be noted that Katie was completely unaware who this stalker was because he was always masked when he decided to make a personal appearance instead of admiring from afar.
This book brought all the steam.. and one of my favourite moments was most definitely when Mac ✨satisfies✨ Katie while her disgusting bf is passed out right next to them. Talk about risqué🌶️ (disclaimer- I don’t condone cheating but Tommy was an absolute awful human who treated Katie like dirt and his behaviour and treatment of Katie is completely unacceptable, in other words there’s a special place in hell for him💅..)
Now there was times I just wanted to scream at Katie for even subjecting herself to the treatment she received from her horrible bf Tommy, but the moment she kicked him to the curb for her stalker well I absolutely shouted to the heavens (and so did she, ifykyk😉)👏🏼
