Instead of preparing for her high school graduation, Lucy Kincaid is facing a vicious execution. Lured by an online predator, she's destined to die horribly - live on the Internet - while hundreds of heartless viewers watch and vote on the method of her slaughter. Her family's only hope rests with Kate Donovan, an FBI agent who took on the same sadistic killer once before . . . and lost. Blamed for another girl's gruesome murder, Kate's been fighting to clear her name. But she agrees to join the hunt for Lucy - and reluctantly steps back into her worst nightmare.
With time running out before the bloody webcast airs, Kate teams up with forensic psychiatrist Dillon Kincaid to get inside the head of her twisted quarry, zero in on his chamber of horrors, and reach Lucy before grim history repeats itself and another innocent's brutal death goes hideously live.

It’s Lucy Kincaid’s high school graduation moment and she’s not there when they call her name. Most of her family is in attendance and they quickly learn that they have every reason to be frightened. Unknown to them, she’s carried on an online relationship with who’s turned out to be a vicious predator and now he’s orchestrated her abduction. Exiled FBI Agent Kate Donovan knows him as Trask, knows what’s in store for Lucy: her online rape and eventual murder. Dillon Kincaid takes the lead to help profile this man and teams with Kate to uncover his true identity and location before his sister’s time is up.
I knew this would be a tough, awful story before I opened the book so I believed I was prepared. Not so much. Even though Brennan spares the graphic details, I still couldn’t shut down my imagination from being in Lucy’s head emotionally, experiencing her pain and humiliation, knowing that her family and the world was watching her degradation online. I also felt the desperation of those trying to find her as the countdown progressed while Lucy continued to be abused. It’s so well written, expertly weaving together the race to find Lucy, the search for her abusers identity and background and the pinpointing of the site where she was being held.
This was an exciting story for all the reasons above but also a cautionary tale for teens who think they can trust online relationships. The romance aspect suffers somewhat as Kate and Dillon’s interactions and developing feelings were a bit rushed. I really didn’t care, however, because I was more invested in Lucy’s rescue. Given what happened here, I’m dying to get started with the Lucy Kincaid series to see how she turns out and moves forward from this nightmare.
A very weak finish to the series, in my opinion. Maybe it's because I "knew" the Kincaid family from the previous books. I just did not like that it was Lucy that was the target. The descriptions might not have been graphic but what was done to her was disturbing to say the least.
Kate, a renegade, has been on the run. She is trying to keep track of Trask, who murdered her friend and boyfriend in an FBI raid.
Nope, I did not get the click between Kate and Dillon. Their "relationship" was way too rushed. Just did not buy it.
And the whole ending was just way to rushed. I haven't reviewed the previous book. I should have as my reading of this one might now colour my judgement of it... I did like it. I think.
To be honest, I had more of a connection with Jack Kincaid. Was intrigued by him and wanted to know more about his story.
Today was supposed to be Lucy Kincaid's high school graduation day. But instead she has been kidnapped by a sadistic killer who rapes and murders his victims live on the internet. Her only hope is former FBI Agent Kate Donovan, a woman who has been tracking the killer's signal for the past few years. Lucy's brother, Dillion Kincaid, appeals to Kate for help. They have 48 hours to rescue Lucy and stop the killer from taking another victim.
The third book in the Evil Trilogy has a great suspense plot. The minutes are ticking down as Kate and Lucy's brothers try to figure out where the killer has taken Lucy. There is a little bit of a romance plot, but it is thankfully not in the middle of the suspense action. My rating: 4 Stars.
***This book contains scenes of rape and some torture against women, as well as my review.
This was the 3rd book on the Evil trilogy and it was the best of the series and the entire series was very good.
Lucy Kincade thought she was being careful online when she agreed to meet a fellow male student in person. But when she misses her own graduation, the Kincade family immediately goes into overdrive pulling their family together to locate her.
But the worst as come to pass, she is in the hands of a mad man and she is now in live color on the web being raped in front of degenerates willing to pay thousands to watch it. They only have 48 hours to find her or she will end up dead.
Enter Kate Donovan an ex-agent that has gone off the grid in order to find this monster and keep herself out of jail for a botched raid that left her partner and her lover dead at the hands of the killer that now had Lucy in his clutches.
Dillon and Kate enter into an all out race to save Lucy and keep him from killing anymore women. The romance between Dillon and Kate was subtle at first and didn't really heat up until after the situation with Lucy was resolved. I appreciated that and felt that was more true to live rather than what we see in like a Lora Leigh book, where regardless of what is going on the couple is getting it on.
As a reader we were also not forced to experience Lucy's rape as it was actually going on at each brutal minute. It was a passing sentence or was only at a glance. I don't mean to say that AB made light of what was going on, she handled it right. She didn't make it the focus in order to get us beyond to what was going to happen next. I thought she did a great job. I love forward to the next trilogy.
Great and fantastic read - what a sick, twisted, and terrifying serial killer - thank you Allison Brennan for this book!
A good introduction to the rest of the Kincaids, in particular Lucy. This is a book that brings the dangers of the internet to the forefront with the best advice - everything and everyone are not as they seem - don't forget this mantra, it can mean life and death!
It should be stressed to young adults in particular - it can happen to you, no one is invincible or immune!
2 thumbs up and 5 solid stars - no wonder this book won an award (oh and Kjen - there is a particular, lengthy, hot scene in there just for you :) )
When 18-year-old Lucy Kincaid is abducted by an online predator, her family and friends mobilize to locate and rescue her. In a race against time, the Kincaids only hope is former FBI agent Kate Donovan who has all of the inside information on the sadistic killer who has Lucy. Together with forensic psychologist Dillon Kincaid, Kate works tirelessly both on and offline to find Lucy before its too late.
The weakest installment in the trilogy mainly due to the lackluster romance and the gratuitous descriptions of Lucy's ordeal.
While Lucy's suffering at the hands of her abductor is to be expected, the repeated descriptions of her are completely unnecessary. Once was more than enough to get the message across, and the excessive repetition has the problematic effect of desensitizing the reader, which is counter to the author's intent.
Speaking of Lucy, her behavior in this book is TSTL. She is well aware of the dangers of internet predators, yet still enters into a secret online relationship in defiance of her family's warnings. This along with her actions later in the book present her as a childish and immature young woman.
Kate and Dillon are likable characters, but they do not work as a romantic couple. The first 75% of the book barely mentions any attraction or intimacy between them at all, thus the sexual relationship that develops toward the end feels contrived. In fact, Kate has more chemistry with Dillon's twin brother, Jack, than with Dillon himself.
The secondary cast is fleshed out well, especially the villain and his psychological makeup, which contributes to the tension and suspense of the story. The appearance of Quinn Peterson and his wife, Miranda, from The Hunt is an added bonus.
Overall, the classification of this book as romantic suspense is problematic as it is more of a thriller than a romance.
Great FBI thriller to revisit. I remember gobbling up all the books by this author when I was a teen. Good to know I can still enjoy one now and then.
Not too much Romance happening as this is about stopping a sexual predator and snuff film ring. However, Dillon and Kate still made me smile quite a bit.
As the last book of the trilogy, it had more or less an awesome ending.
I did figure out that some of the characters aren't new - they are actually part of the first Trilogy Brennan wrote, which is fine by me, I plan on picking them up just the same. But, even though the ending was nice, it left a lot of unanswered questions as well as leaving a character still down. Makes me wonder what Brennan has up her sleeve.
I felt really bad for Lucy; not only for what happened to her, but the way she was blaming herself. Oh, and in case I haven't mentioned it before, what happens in this book may be disturbing for those who've either been through something like this, or know someone who has. I don't, and I found it disturbing.
The way Brennan puts you into the head of the killer, it sends shivers down your spine. Knowing that this happens in real life only sends more shivers and shudders.
Dillon is a repeat character in all three novels, and I really like him; his personality, his thoughts, the way he figures things out. And, being described as a hottie does the mind good as well, LOL! I liked Kate as well. Not just her personality - her tenaciousness; not letting go, no matter what happens, no matter what she has to do, no matter how scared she was, she saw it through to the end. A strong female character and she was perfect. Lucy, even though only eighteen, was also a strong character - no matter what happened to her, she still fought back with everything she had.
The plot was excellent - I couldn't have asked for better - and I love how it came to a close. But still, there's that one unanswered question... What happens to Patrick? Does this mean Brennan has something up her sleeve? Maybe another trilogy where Patrick's in it? Difficult to say - I can't read the author's mind, but I certainly do hope so, or this chica is going to be one disappointed reader. A definite recommendation for a book that starts with a bang and doesn't let up until the very end, all three novels in the trilogy are like that.
Fear No Evil is the final book in Allison Brennan's No Evil Trilogy and the book that sets the stage for the Lucy Kincaid series. In this book. seventeen-year-old Lucy Kincaid is kidnapped by a serial killer who televises his rapes and murders on the internet--for the price of a subscription. Computer hacker extraordinaire Kate Donovan is a rogue FBI agent on the run since her lover, another agent, and her female partner were both murdered by the man known as Trask. When Lucy is kidnapped and the feed goes live, Kate is determined to track him down and put an end to things.
Enter the Kincaid family, led by the intellectual and calm, Dr. Dillon Kincaid, forensic psychiatrist. With the Kincaids background in law enforcement and the military, they join the FBI task force. Dillon calls in a favor from his estranged twin, Jack--a mercenary who left 20 years before and only came back for funerals and weddings.
This book is an absolute rollercoaster blend of action and emotion. The wrap-up at the end was a little "pat" for my tastes, but not enough to make me "take off points" because the rest of the book is I-can't-put-it-down good!
I delayed reading this third book in the Speak No, See No, Fear No trilogy because, well because I knew the rape scenes with Lucy Kincaid would be graphic and I am not over keen on brutality towards women as a means to sell books. I recognize the authors need to show this cautionary tale of internet innocence but also to add the backstory angst for her Lucy Kincaid series.
The book does have it's moments of violence but the scenes I was dreading were muted and handled with care, gratuitous violence kept to a minimum. Instead she gets her violence on in a clever Dillon /Adam Scott scene.
I see now that reading a series in order can make such a difference. The Kate Donovan backstory now makes so much more sense. Live and learn.
This is the third book in this series and unfortunatly the last.. I would really love to read a book about each of the Kincaid siblings :)
Lucy Kincaid, the youngest of the Kincaid breed has been kidnapped on her graduation day by an online predator and made her family frantic.
Then they discover that she is being broadcasted live on the Internet via a live feed somewhere anonymous, with less than 48 hours to live and a vote to which way the viewers wish she meets her end!
Kate Donovan is a former FBI agent who has been tracking this kidnapper/murderer "Trask" for over 5 years with no luck. After a sting going bad ending up with her lover Evan and her partner Paige dead, she went into hiding.. But the Kincaids find her and ask her cooperation to catch this so-called Trask. All they know him by is by the nickname .. he seems not to exist anywhere!
Dillon Kincaid the forensic phsycologist is trying hard to understand the motives of Trask, so he digs into Trask's background and childhood to try to find out who he really is.. trying to think like Trask to know what he might or might not do.. to understand his way of thinking and his motives, to try to save his sister's life!
Will they be able to catch him before Lucy's time is up? Is she really his goal or does he want more? Could Kate fight her own demons and find peace again?
This book was a roller coaster from the beginning, true that it took me a while to read but that was because I was very busy.. it was so hard to put down but I just had to do it.. Everytime I think everything is going to be fine, something happens and changes everything..
I really wish Ms. Brennan would consider more books in this series.. I really need to know what happens to Patrick :)
Quotes I liked from the book..
His head was bandaged, and for some reason that bothered her more than anything. It made everything more real. That he'd had brain surgery because of the explosion that nearly killed him. That he was in a coma and might not survive.
He couldn't look at her with pity, he wouldn't tell her everything would be all right. He wouldn't offer her food or suggest that she get some sleep.
"It just proves that it doesn't matter how smart or careful you are; if a predator wants you he'll find a way."
I was pulled into this plot, but found a few items disturbing such as the internet posting of rape and murder live. Thankfully those parts were more referenced and not graphic. The romance was tough to accept as I had problems switching between a teenager being raped for live internet broadcasting to hot glances between the brother of said teenager and the female FBI agent. I also had issues with the plausibility of some of the procedures that were being followed by law enforcement which challenged my suspension of disbelief.
I still like Allison Brennan's story telling and writing abilities.
Lucy Kincaid has been kidnapped and the kidnapper plans on showing her murder live on the internet. FBI Agent Kate Donovan has taken on this killer before, but the Kincaid family must find her first if they want her help.
The final book in this trilogy focuses on Dillon Kincaid, the psychiatrist. What happens to Lucy is extremely violent and very disturbing. I truly felt for her while reading it. I look forward to reading the Lucy Kincaid next to see how this event changed her and how she dealt with it. I have enjoyed getting to know the whole Kincaid family in this trilogy and I hope to see them again in the next series. I like how the reader got to see each of them fall in love. Dillon and Kate are probably the most interesting pair. Kate still has so much to work through and I know Dillon will be there to help her. The ending of the story was very satisfying. I wanted to high five Lucy. The killer is extremely intelligent and he plays a lot of mind games. A truly disturbed individual that the author did an excellent job with.
I first read this book when it came to the library in 2007 and was lucky enough to find a copy recently so I could re-read.
Lucy Kincaid should be at her high school graduation. Instead, she went to a morning coffee meet-up with a guy she met online -- a cute college freshman. No, he's really a sexual predator posing as a cute guy. Serious mistake.
Now Lucy is the star attraction in a pay-to-watch online pornography site. It's a countdown to murder with multiple rapes broadcast throughout the 48 hour ordeal. The first four hours are free and then watchers must pay 50K. Millions are being made on this sick broadcast.
FBI agent Kate Donovan has been tracking this predator for 5 years from a mountaintop observatory in Mexico. She'll team up with Kincaid family members in a race to find Lucy before her time is up.
Readers meet multiple characters in this story that Brennan will use in future books. There's a hot romance that erupts in the latter part. Even though the scenes are not too graphically detailed, it's disturbing to read and think about the brutalization in this story.
Yes, it has that much of an impact. The content is hard to read. The psychopath is deeply disturbing. And, you won't be able to put the book down!
Lucy Kincaid is just about to graduate when she does the unthinkable. She agrees to meet an online friend in person... Every parent's worse nightmare, right? Then, she disappears.
What poor Lucy goes through is unspeakable, unforgiving, and terrifying to think about. Her experiences are broadcast over the Internet. Her older brother, Dillon Kincaid is determined to find her and save her.
Dillon seeks out the help of FBI agent Kate Donovan. She's had her own experiences with this psychopath and she is the only one that can help him track the bad guy down.
Lucy, Dillon and Kate are the type of characters that will forever imprint on your memory. A fantastic story, a wonderful book and an unforgettable plot. I definitely recommend this book! It will become one that I will reread.
Brutal and intense. We get to know more about Lucy Kincaid and the rest of the family. A very emotional story with Lucy abducted. Dillon works with a former FBI agent tracking the abductor and tries to figure out his identity. HIs skills really brought strategy and focus to the investigation. I am more excited than ever to read the stories that lead up to and then read the Lucy Kincaid series.
COYER Buddy read with Berls () and Rachel(4-4.5) #SIAM
Allison Brennan: 5.00: Allison Brennan is a favorite author. She knows how to tell a story that grabs your attention at the first page and keeps it until the last sentence.
Fear No Evil: 4.95: Another well-written, intriguing, tension-filled, 'can't put this book down' read. Brennan did not waste a minute before drawing one deep into the story and keeping the emotional anxiety and 'edge of your seat' suspense at a razor's edge. Brennan rounded off the story by throwing in just a touch of romance.
Hero: 4.9: Dillon Kincaid: Not your typical bad-boy hero sent to catch the bad guys using his might and his gun. Dillon is a perfect example of how attractive an intelligent man can be. With his strong sense of self-worth, strength of will, reasonableness, and good looks, Dillon came across as the kind of man you want to stand by your side and guard your back in a crisis.
Heroine: 4.0: Katherine "Kate" Donovan: Kate is the kind of heroine whose strength of will and stubborn determination saw her through many a crisis -- just the kind of heroine needed for a romantic suspense book. Underneath that steel will was a compassionate nature that wins your heart.
You had to like someone who went balls to the wall when they believed in something. (Mick, page 170)
Story Line: 5.0: A truly chilling story line, featuring a remorseless villain who kidnaps young women to feature their rape and death on a live webcast. Kate has been chasing Trask (the villain) for five years and when Trask kidnaps Dillon's youngest sister, Lucy, they unite forces (even though Kate was initially unwilling) to find Trask and save Lucy. The story included plenty of twists and turns regarding the investigation as well as addressing the distant relationship between brothers.
Action: 4.5: Plenty of action scenes move the story along at a strong, fast pace.
Emotion: 4.0: Several emotions were aroused during the telling of this book. {1} Aghast horror at the rape scenes. This book will be impossible for some to read because of the realistically portrayed actions of the villain and his henchmen to Lucy (even though Brennan did an excellent job of restricting the details about the rape to its emotional devastation rather than to its graphic description). {2} Compassion towards the entire Kincaid family as they witness this brutality to their sister. {3} An emotional connection to Dillon and Kate as they weave their way into your heart.
Romance: 1.5: The romance factor of this book definitely took a back seat to the suspense. It took a while for Dillon and Kate to became aware of each other (probably because of the heinous nature of the villain they were facing). But once Dillon and Kate found that they were deeply attracted and emotionally invested in the other, there was no hem-hawing around -- bam -- they were in love.
Sensuous: 2.0: Brennan included a heated, spicy, emotional love scene to solidify the connection between Dillon and Kate. Thankfully, Dillon was strong enough to command his own place in the twosome and not let Kate's overwhelmingly strong personality subdue his more laid back sense of self.
Suspense: 5.0: Brennan usually increases the suspense and tension in her books, chapter by chapter. But in Fear No Evil the reader is mired in fear and tension almost from the get go -- because the horror Lucy is facing and that digital counter is always present in the back of your mind. Yes, the suspense factor in the story continues to increase but that underlying fear and sympathy for Lucy hardly ever diminishes.
Secondary Characters: 5.0: Brennan is particularly skilled at including wonderfully written secondary characters. Brennan richly details the villain's boyhood and mindset as well as supporting his reign of terror with two henchmen: {1} Roger Morton and {2} Denise Arno. The supporting cast of good guys that added a rich flavor to the story included: {1} Jack Kincaid, {2} Lucy Kincaid, {3} Connor Kincaid, {4} Carina Kincaid, {5} Patrick Kincaid, {6} Quinn Peterson, {7} Jeff Merritt, {8} Mick Mallory, and {9} Abigail "Abby" Resnick.
Allison Brennan pulls off another fabulous book! As the series went, each book was better than the last! I would've given all three books 10 stars; they were so good!
Suspense 70% romance 30%. This one was almost all about the plot and it is a very good suspense plot. The characters and their romance definitely took a back seat on this one. The horror was a little intense and the baddie psychopath was evil personified.
Lucy Kincaid, youngest of seven siblings, has been in touch online with what she thinks is a freshman at Georgetown, where she plans to attend in the fall. She has given him all kinds of personal information, even agreeing to meet him at a Starbucks the morning of her high school graduation. He grabs her and drugs her and sets in motion a sick, perverted "show" that is going to end in 48 hours with Lucy's death.
Kate Donovan has been tracking Trask for 5 years, ever since he killed her boyfriend, her best friend and destroyed her FBI career. She has isolated herself and her sole purpose is to find Trask. When his internet feed of Lucy pops up, she is on it immediately, knowing that the clock is ticking. She sends the feed to the FBI and the Kincaid family find out through them just what Lucy is up against. The Kincaid brothers track Kate to her mountain top and insist, not giving her a chance to refuse, that they are going to find Lucy together. Dillon Kincaid is a forensic psychiatrist who needs Kate to help him get inside Trask's head and in the process gets into both Kate's mind and her heart.
Started Easter Friday (a National Holiday in Germany, where I live) April, 18th, 2014. This book starts the back-story of Lucy Kincaid, so it might be a good idea, to read it before all the Lucy Kincaid books. As I read some books in the wrong order, that is not so important, but for me Lucy Kincaid and the theme of e-crimes or Cybercrimes is one of the most interesting ones in these books. As with the other 2 from the No Evil-Series this is again very bloody, with a high body-count and like most of her books, once again a predictable ending. Also again very brutal scenes, snuff, murder, rape, be warned. And a look in some very disturbed minds. Little romance, one short sex-scene and lots of action keep the tension high, very good again, like the other 2 from the series. Also not too long, which I rather appreciate, as I sometimes get the feeling the writer gets paid by the word. Highly recommended page-turner. Despite the ending 5 stars.
I really liked the book. I love this author. However, this book crossed a line.. as in creepy. There was so much violence and rape that it became kind of disturbing rather than entertaining. Crime novels don't usually go this far. I would still recommend this author and her series books. This was the 3rd- featuring the Kincaid family.
This book had a nicely developed plot and interesting characters, but has FAR too graphic descriptions of EXTREMELY violent scenes. It also had sex scenes. Therefore, I ended up skipping half the book. I do not like explicit violence and feel it is unnecessary and horrifying.
