Dark Hearts #6

Reckless Hearts

Rate this book
I’m caught in the psychopath’s web.
Cold, heartless, and as dangerous as he is beautiful. Deimos Drakos is Greek mafia royalty and my worst nightmare. A chameleon hiding a true monster in plain sight.
No one sees the villain behind those dark, lethally gorgeouseyes.
No one but me.
You see, I know his worst secrets. But he knows my darkest fantasies. And he’ll use them to trap me.
To toy with me.
To own me.
We’re blurring the lines between fantasy and reality. Except true psychopaths like him have no lines.
No limits. No mercy.
Deimos is a devil who once told me to run and never look back.
I should have listened.
Because now he’s going to chase me. He’s going to catch me, and flay open every dark part of me.
But he’ll never capture my heart.

Reckless Hearts is a standalone dark mafia, blisteringly steamy enemies-to-lovers romance with a smart, good-girl heroine, and an ultra possessive, morally gray, dark-hearted hero with “look at her and I’ll unalive you” energy. Readers are HIGHLY advised to read the TW inside. No cliffhanger; HEA included.

I'll be honest...this book felt a little underwhelming. Maybe it's because of the same tropes that have been reused and recycled in this series. Or maybe it's the double standards (and slight OW drama). Personally, I'm done with the virgin heroine trope lol. One where the h doesn't look at another man but where the H fucks his way through half of the female population. I really don't like it. Also, I felt like Deimos' character was more tell rather than show. Like, he claimed to be a psycho but it didn't really feel like it??? Or maybe I'm just so far gone in the dark romance genre that his character didn't feel that dark to me lmao. Other than that, the story was decent. The smut felt a bit flat and repetitive for me but it was still okay ig. Overall, this was an okay read that I'd recommend as a palate cleanser and if you're looking for a quick, steamy book.

Jagger Cole has done it again! I absolutely devoured this in one day.

Deimos, the dark and haunted Drakos brother gets his story told in the sixth of the Dark Hearts series.

Dahlia, whom we’ve met previously and had befriended Callie, Deimos’ younger sister, has her own connection to Deimos. And we learn just how deep that connection is and what transpired between the two through flashbacks; while presently, at the hands of Deimos, they end up in a forced proximity situation, Dahlia being at his mercy. And it turns out, Deimos and Dahlia aren’t that much different after all.

Jagger is a master story teller with his plot, twists and ALL👏🏼THE👏🏼HEAT! This is a darker book than the others with the deliciously deviant acts Deimos likes to partake in, and the mouth on that man. 🥵

This is a mafia story with a haunted and possessive hero and an HEA and I loved every minute of it! I absolutely cannot wait for more from Jagger Cole!

Alright, it won me back over a bit. Haha! This series has been quite a ride. This couple is a crazy one, but a twisted good time none the less.

Locking forward to the next series in 2024.

okay so I am starting this thing were:
📢 I am trying to finish all the series I have in my kindle BUT, I already read the first book in the series and hated it.

So, Dark Hearts, it ended up being slightly better than the first book, yes, but could I have lived without reading this? Yes.

Trash Read (Like trash TV, bad but entertaining)

Sadly this story has so many plot holes, writing mistakes, and glaring editing issues that took me out of the flow of reading and never allowed me to connect with the characters.

One issue with the story is that there’s an absence of any genuine romantic feelings ever developing between the two main characters (their relationship is purely physical). Even when they finally say I love you to each other, it never felt real nor was it treated as the monumental special moment is should’ve been.

However, the biggest flaw that I still can’t get over is how jarring the disconnection from chapter to chapter was throughout the story. It felt like the chapters were written out of order and then slotted together wrong. I wish someone had taken the time to the ensure that each chapter connected with the one that follows. Instead, there’s no smooth transition between chapters, details that feel important are mentioned once and then never mentioned again, and some chapters never even explain where the main character currently is or how they got there.

Around the halfway mark of the story, I actually went back and reread previous chapters to see if I had accidentally missed something (I hadn’t), because the couple goes from a HUGE screaming fight (one tells the other to leave and never come back) in one chapter to IMMEDIATELY FINE in the VERY NEXT CHAPTER - and this fight and their hurt feeling with one another are NEVER mentioned again. In fact, it’s as if the fight never even happened, so what was the point in including it at all?

Other small things: the random Other Woman drama introduced only in the second half of the book felt like a weak last minute addition to suddenly stir up some drama between the main characters. There’s also lots of telling but not showing throughout the story. And finally the long paragraphs dedicated to describing way too many of the characters from the other novels in this series, when instead I wished the focus would have just remained on developing this novel’s main characters.

it's no wonder i loved this as much as i did when it was very reminiscent of my favorite book and couple in this series (so far), twisted hearts. just like it happened with gavan in his story, deimos was almost like a new character to this universe given how little we knew about him from the previous books. all that unknown and mysterious darkness to him was only a fraction of his multilayers. and dahlia not only complimented him but matched his deviousness, she had a bit of every other fmc up until now and it made her a more well-rounded character. perhaps my new favorite girl. and i especially appreciated, once again, the way this male author writes female dynamics, and in this case a redeemable female antagonist, not villain per se. she really was a contradiction of herself and it worked.

🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️.5/5.

Deimos Drakos. He was the mysterious brother throughout this whole series. We never knew much about him besides what he did for the family and that he was distant and cold so I was very intrigued to get to know him and what he was all about.
This book was different from the others in the series from completely new tropes to haunted vibes and I really liked that. It was a pleasant surprise and I was trying to figure out where everything was going as I was reading.
I loved learning what makes Deimos tick but also why he is the way he is and in the midst of all of that he had also a side that loved his family and I loved that he didn't shy away from telling a member of the family that (when its prompted of course). I also loved how honest he was with himself. He was the type that saw his feeling for what they were and he didn't bulls!!! himself into believing what he was feeling was something that would pass with the next shiny thing.

Dahlia is a very smart woman. She unfortunately gets "caught" in Deimos Ya-Ya's house by the man himself and he couldn't believe his eyes when he saw her but he issued the ultimatum that lead to an arrangement of sorts between them. She is a good girl but likes feeling adrenaline and live on the edge while not doing dangerous stuff because she ain't stupid.
Spoiler
I really loved her for like half of this book but then when it was obvious, to me at least, that 'the one that got away' was in front of her, she still believed otherwise which at a certain I understood why but when Deimos got every k!nk she had right, there was no way she wouldn't know because she only told someone so it was a bit frustrating seeing her being oblivious to it all.
Eventually the third act happens and Dahlia decides to "help" without her phone or telling Deimos and just goes for it. I mean the woman doesn't even belong to the mafia, she doesn't have any training or a weapon whatsoever so why dive right into danger? She couldn't save anyone just with her body... I don't get it and I couldn't look past it because the same things could've happen even if Dahlia took her phone at least or even told Deimos hence why it was even more frustrating because she is really smart girl but this was a dumb move on her part which I wasn't a fan of.

I loved Hades and having him on the page was a highlight for me plus he really gives good advice.
There's Ares & Neve having a "meeting" in Deimos office which was fun, after the fact. There's also Elsa, Callie and Castle who I loved to see one last time.

I absolutely loved this series and it's probably one of the best I've read this year. Someday I hope there's audiobooks for those so that I can reread them all over again.
Venomous Gods series is next and I can't wait! Hopefully Kratos is one of the guys cuz I believe he is the one that didn't have his book yet.

I was recently asked to prepare five bullet points about my low productivity and will instead do that for this book:
• As the cover leads one to believe, face paint is a large part of this book.
• I have confirmed the phrase “wetter and drippier” is too much for even me.
• At the same time, the phrase “cum slut” makes me laugh.
• I am disappointed I didn’t find a Mafia man while getting my MBA. (Thanks for nothing, Boise State.)
• 4⭐️s always for Jagger!

I'm not sure how to feel after completing this book. I have mixed feelings about it.

The beginning of the book is promising and continues with a great pace, but right in the middle of the plot, there is one major fight between Demois and Dahila that leaves me perplexed. The book continues without addressing the fight as if that particular scene never occurred, which is confusing. I'm unsure if I overreacted or if it was a editing mistake.

Eventually, the story gets back on track and becomes more interesting towards the end, despite all the initial confusion. However, I was anticipating more depth from the book and its characters. The story contained excess emotional information, which to me seemed pretty redundant and repetitive.

In my opinion, the book came across as a typical mafia romance novel, nothing too over-the-top.

Jagger Cole has done it again. He has become one of my top mafia authors, and this series has blown me away. I could not put this book down, and it sucked me in from the first page. I was very intrigued by Deimos in the previous book, and I was highly anticipating his romance. He seemed dark, mysterious, and intimidating when we were introduced to him in the previous book. He has been heading up the Drakos operations in Europe, so we didn't know much about him.

He comes to visit for Callie's birthday and finds out Dahlia has become best friends with his sister and is close to his family. The problem is that Deimos and Dahlia have history, and he warned her to run away and stay out of his life, or he would ruin hers. Dahlia thought she was safe since Deimos was living in Europe, but now he has decided to stay in New York and make her pay. They have a complicated history from when they were at an elite school together 6 years ago. Deimos gets the upper hand when he buys up a bunch of her mother's companies and gets a large part of her fortune. He will give the money back to Dahlia, but she basically has to be his to own, play with, and use sexually.

Deimos and Dahlia are both such damaged characters suffering from their own demons. Deimos considers himself a psychopath and he has really shut himself off from his family due to the extreme trauma he experienced as a child. He is a very intelligent, ruthless, and morally gray hero. He tries to hate Dahlia, but he has actually been obsessed with her since he saw her in school. I loved how Jagger Cole showed their history in flashbacks throughout the book without taking us out of the current story.

These characters had insane chemistry, and I really felt their connection. They have this undeniable connection and were the perfect match for each other. They were so similar with their traumas and sexual kinks. They both are into primal play, impact play, and rough sex. The steam in this book was so hot. This is one of the spiciest books in the series....I loved it.

Jagger Cole is always great at building the suspense, and the ending was action-packed. It was so intense, and it had me on the edge of my seat. I am sad this series is ending, but I can't wait to read his next series. I believe it will be tied to these families in some way.

TW: child abuse, SA, murder, and violence.

Star Rating : 4 / 5 Stars

Cliffhanger : None

Hero : Deimos

Heroine : Dahlia

Pace of the story : Moderate

Angst Rating : 5/10

Heat Rating : 6/10

Triggers Involved : Primal Kink , Dark , past trauma

Plot Summary :
Dahlia met Deimos years ago. He threatened her to stay away or he'll make her . She followed that for a long time until a sick twist of fate landed her right in front of his path. And he was furious. Angry for making me remember her. Angry for breaking his rules.

And now he was going to ruin her in ways she doesn't want to like but might just end up doing so.

Overall Opinion :
Deimos is here! I have been obsessed with this man from the very first book. He did make very few appearances in the initial series as he was living away from the characters but we did see a few scenes of his and Dahlia and the book before this and those drive me crazy!! I absolutely loved their interactions and have been waiting for this one ever since.

This is again a standalone and although all these books are standalones, they do have intertwined plots that give you little bit not very spoiler filled , hints for the previous book. For the best experience, I would recommend trying them in their specific order.

Definitely recommending this one to all the dark romance loving people out there!

Deimos and Dahlia, Callie’s friend.
The book starts really well. I had a strong interest to learn about their past and I read it in a couple of days. It was ok overall but had so, so much potential, it was a pity it didn’t deliver as it could have.

The events of the past were so rushed that it left me slightly disappointed. There was so much room for cool interactions! And we got nothing! And there should have been grovelling. And again, nothing! Grrrr.

There were also editing issues for sure. I mean, Chapter 15 was intense and after that it was as if it never happened. I got quite confused and kept going back to make sure I didn’t miss something.

There wasn’t much mafia in this one, but there were some twists.

The FMC is -once again- a virgin, at 25 y.o. I guess it’s the author’s M.O. It’s so tiring to see the same pattern in every book of the series. Virgin and no mention of protection- I doubt I’ll read any more of his books.

⋆ Primal Kink
⋆ Одержимий головний герой
⋆ BDSM
⋆ Шантаж
⋆ Спільна травма
⋆ CNC

I feel like this could have been one of my favorite stories in the series but the execution made it one of my least favorite. The premise was intriguing and the characters held my interest. But the writing felt a little all over the place and there was once I had to go back and make sure I didn't somehow skip a chapter or two because the break in between scenes was so sudden they didn't honestly go together? Like one scene ended with this big fight and the next time the characters were together it felt more like an extension of a previous scene that had happened multiple chapters before. There was even a note of the outfit the heroine was wearing in that first office scene but that had been many days prior in the timeline? So anyway, things like that kind of put me off but I did like the overall story.

Oh gosh this book .. I think I need to read entire series by jagger Cole .. I will be honest this was my first book read as this was a ARC copy .
But I really enjoyed it and I devour it in 2 days .. I will be picking up other books from the series as there is 5
Onore books and they are stand alone as well.

Spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ in book .. I do think at some point it to much but if you love spicy books this is for you .

I fell in love with Dahlia Roy’s character she is just amazing in this book.. Dahlia meet Deimos in knightsblood.. as they both belongs to mafia families..
This story follows to there present and past events .. where Dahlia found her self trap in Deimos scheme and at his mercy.. but the Twist in this story is something I was expecting but it was definitely shocking at the end.

Self note:

Not for me. I'd skimmed the book, and there's a lot of reminders that Deimos is a hoe (just use "women" in the search functionality). I'm tired of the virgin x manhoe trope and the double standards in general when it comes to romance fiction.

Also, this is kind of a second-chance romance; they met in high school, and six years have passed since that night he threatened her and told her to run away.

And there's an OW drama. Deimos never slept with her, but he almost did four years ago, and she came back into the picture. Based on my skimming, she did cause some drama and appeared in multiple chapters. She's catty and witchy towards Dahlia too, and she was trying so hard to get the attention of Deimos. He didn't give her any time of the day, and he told her he wasn't interested.

Anyway, though this isn't for me, I'm sure other readers will appreciate it.

Jagger does it again! This is book 6 of interconnected standalones within his Dark Hearts series and I loved it!

-greek mafia
-enemies to lovers
-grumpy/sunshine
-psycho/possessive MMC
-primal/chase

Deimos has been the most mysterious of the Drakos family and I really enjoyed getting to learn more about him. His dark, sinister, calculating persona was so intriguing and I love how unhinged and obsessive he is with Dahlia. They were perfect together and the primal/chase spice is one of my favorites! Highly recommend this book and this whole series!

This stunning cover is a perfect introduction to the contents within Reckless Hearts by Jagger Cole - a gripping and emotionally raw tale of two damaged individuals who find solace in each other's darkness.

"I came for revenge.
I got her instead.
And I wouldn't change that for the world." - Deimos Drakos

Deimos Drakos is a gorgeous, intimidating, and highly strategic man, especially concerning Dahlia Roy. When he sets his sights on her, she becomes his new obsession.

Six years ago, on Halloween night, Dahlia found Deimos with blood on his hands and bodies at his feet. She flees from him in terror, but fate brings them together again when Dahlia befriends Callie, Deimos's sister, without knowing their connection. When Dahlia and Deimos reunite at Callie's 21st birthday celebration, their past wounds reopen, revealing an insatiable desire that only they can satisfy in each other.

The author does an excellent job of portraying the intensity and rawness of Dahlia and Deimos' connection while also delivering glimpses of tender moments that left me breathless. The book is well-written, and I really enjoyed reading the many suspenseful twists and turns they had to endure to reach their happy ending.

However, I was a bit disappointed with the revelation that while being apart for six years, Deimos had been secretly sabotaging any potential relationships Dahlia might have had while he was enjoying the company of other women. This surprised me as Jagger Cole's male protagonists are usually portrayed as possessive and fiercely loyal. Nonetheless, I still found Reckless Hearts a great read overall.

👥 Dual POV
📚 Reckless Hearts can be read as a standalone novel, but I recommend reading Stolen Hearts first, where we get our initial glimpse of Dahlia and Deimos.

Reckless Hearts, the sixth installment in Jagger Cole’s Dark Hearts series, finally unveils the story of Deimos Drakos—the most enigmatic and haunted of the Drakos brothers. Throughout the series, Deimos has remained a shadowy figure: cold, distant, and fiercely loyal to his family, yet always cloaked in mystery. Now, we get an up close and intimate look at the darkness he carries, and dig into the woman who may be his only salvation.

Dahlia Roy, previously introduced as Callie’s friend, shares a deeper, more complicated history with Deimos than we knew. Their connection, born from a traumatic Halloween night six years ago, left Dahlia running from Deimos who had literal blood on his hands. But fate is a cruel matchmaker, and when they’re thrown into a tense forced-proximity situation years later, unresolved emotion...and dangerous and delicious desires....resurface with a vengeance. Oh what fun.

Like all the Dark Hearts stories, we get a gripping and charged story. This one told with a dual timeline of flashbacks that build their past and add more tension to the present. Dahlia and Deimos are forced to confront their past. Two damaged souls bound by secrets, obsession, and an all consuming need for each other.

Jagger Cole once again proves the master of dark mafia romance, blending scorching chemistry with tightly woven mafia intrigue and plot twists. Reckless Hearts felt even darker than the previous books, due to Deimos’s more deviant inclinations and deliciously dangerous vibe. His intensity, especially toward Dahlia, is obsessive and toxic, as she becomes the center of his world, whether she wants to be or not.

I loved that in the last few years he's been keeping tabs...and actively sabotaging Dahlia’s romantic prospects over the years, I just hated he himself didn't attempt to stay true to her. And I wished we had just a bit more of an emotional connection- though Deimos is intense, he's not very emotive.

Still, the book delivers everything expected from Jagger, all the gritty mafia tension, heart-pounding suspense, and a delicious dark romance.

I've really enjoyed the audio performances of this series. Ryan West is so darkly charismatic- he's a great mafioso with some grit, edgy charm, and command. And Sophie Daniels is great and brings many emotional layers. Enjoyed the listen.

What to expect
-Mafia
-innocent/virgin heroine
-possessive anti-hero leading man
-he's obsessed
-dual timelines
-baggage from past

4.5 ✨

Jagger Cole's books are becoming my personal sort of addiction at this point. Honestly, whenever I start reading this author's books, the first time I put it back down is when I reach "the end".
Needless to say I finished (aka devoured) this one in a day.

I was so looking forward to finally meeting the mysterious and dark Deimos and let me tell you, his story didn't disappoint.

I'd say Deimos is the definition of a morally grey character, while his past is the definition of pure hell. He's bearing so many demons and so much darkness around him that it's truly heartbreaking.

But then, in the middle of all that darkness, a spark of a new feeling arises the moment he sees her—a woman he promised to destroy should she ever dare make an appearance. No matter how hard he fights to walk away, the desire to stay true to his word and seek his vengeance speaks louder than anything. He realizes there's no point in fighting; it's time to act.

The connection between the main characters is unlike anything I read before. They share a past and a bond so incredibly strong and intense which leaves me speechless.
I loved every minute of learning their stories. From the past till the present, I devoured their every moment and every word written on those pages.

They both carry so much weight on their shoulders which would never be healthy for each other, and yet somehow it becomes a blessing in their lives, bringing them together in a way they probably didn't think possible, despite both of them wishing for it more than anything in the world at some point.

I have no words for their story and this book. It's incredibly written, Jagger Cole has this fantastic ability and talent to suck you into the story from the very beginning.
The level of spice in this book is headspinning 🌶️🌶️🌶️ the author outdid himself with this one. It's wicked, it's dark, it's so damn hot you can never get enough. The thrill, the suspense, the twists and turns are absolutely incredible.

I'm so sad that this series have come to an end, but at the same time, I'm so excited for what Jagger Cole has in store for us. Judging by all the books I read so far, it'll be nothing short to amazing, and I absolutely cannot wait.

Thank you so much Valentine PR and Jagger Cole for the ARC of this book, and for this thrilling and emotional ride. 🖤

“If we hide who we are, we remain in the darkness.”

I did NOT know I needed this in my life. I may have said this before in the previous book, but I truly didn't think that Dahlia and Deimos' story would be one of my favorites. I will say this, feels like this one was definitely darker and just MORE compared to the other ones. Maybe that's why I enjoyed it so much more. They chemistry was FIRE! I mean, at first I thought he really meant it when he said that he hated her. But as the saying goes, there's a fine line between love and hate. And that line was crossed several times. If there even was a line to begin with...

Teasers - portrait - Reckless Hearts - love & hate

Dahlia and Deimos' love story was MORE intense. MORE cut throat. Just...MORE. It wasn't just about the intimate portions of their story, it was the broken journey that they each had and how they put each other together towards the end.

"My villain. My darkest fantasy. The one who shattered me. The devil of the darkness who sent me running six years ago. Blood on his hands. A body at his feet. And the threat spilling from his perfect lips."

Being that this is the last book in this series (the last brother will have his story in another series from what I am told/saw from the author), I feel like maybe I wanted that pretty, red bow tying everyone's life together. But alas, it wasn't so. Either way, I am really happy with this Mafia series.

Every story has a villain, and he’s the one in mine.

The way I devoured this book, omg, I stayed up till 3 am finishing this book because I seriously could not put it down. It was an amazing read, as all of the books in this series were. Reckless Hearts is the final book in this series, but I bet we'll still see a lot more of these characters in Jagger's next series.

Deimos, the youngest brother, had a dark past that no one knew except his crazy father. Things that happened with him and none of his brothers and sister will ever know about if it's up to him. And in between some of his past dark memories is Dahlia. The one that destroyed him all those years ago. Or so he thought.
Dahlia never had it easy, being born from a terrible moment, she forever carries that weight. After being sent to an exclusive and reclusive school for daughters and sons of important people, that she never fits in, she ends up finding herself tangled with more than she could ever want.

This book was absolutely amazing! I could not stop reading it and I had so many theories throughout the book, some of it right and some wrong. Also, I loved to see and understand more of Deimos, I was always so curious about him. I can't wait for Kratos book though, I know he'll have one but it won't be in this series. I loved all of these books and with every single of one of them I was invested from the start. I love Jagger's writing and he's quickly becoming one of my go-to authors.

“When you’re with the one person on earth who you know without a shadow of doubt is the one you’re supposed to be with, because they complete you in the most sincere way possible, it’s not a matter of resisting temptation.” He shakes his head. “There simply is no other temptation. End of story.”

♡This was my first read by Jagger Cole & I loved it! Dark m@fia romance with a *if I can't have her no one can vibe* sign me up! Deimos & Dahlia are both running from their past & each other. Dahlia is stuck trying to forget the worst night of her life, while Deimos is running away from his demons. What happens when their worlds collide after years of running?

I loved the dual narration for this audiobook! Ryan did a phenomenal job voicing Deimos our dark, mysterious, & intimidating MMC & the deep voice fit him perfectly! Sophie did an amazing job at bringing our sassy, will not take no for an answer, strong FMC Dahlia to life & brought out her emotion perfectly!

If you like dark m@fia romances, with great spice, good plot, & a second chance love twist you found it!♡

~As Always Happy Reading~
