When her past came calling, she should’ve said no…
Psychic Mia Reeves is happier than she ever could have imagined. Especially when the love of her life, Roman Mancini, proposes.
But instead of focusing on her glorious future with Roman, she stupidly steps into the past when she agrees to help her estranged father with just ‘one little thing for old time’s sake’.
What was supposed to be a simple errand quickly spins out of control. Mia and Roman soon find themselves criss-crossing America on a hunt for stolen diamonds all the while trying to outwit her ex-boyfriend and assorted other bad guys including Russian gangsters.
Will Mia and Roman find the diamonds in time to bargain for their lives? Or will her past finally demand the ultimate price?
If you like thrilling romantic suspense stories with a touch of the psychic you’ll love No Escaping the Past. This is the second book in the Mia and Roman Psychic Suspense Series.
Marion Myles hasn't always been a writer. She spent the first few decades of her life as a professional equestrian and travelled across North America training and competing at horse shows.
Aside from horses, she has had an enduring love affair with the written word. Her reading interests run the gamut from mystery to fantasy to woman's fiction and even young adult. But when it comes right down to it, her heart definitely lies in the romance section.
When not riding or writing, she devotes any spare moments to battling a debilitating addiction to Smarties and stalking her favourite authors on the internet. She's proud to say there are currently no restraining orders filed against her.
Marion lives in Southwestern Ontario with her beloved dachshund and her husband - also very much beloved!
That nonsense about a 7 year old Mia being hospitalized and medicated is such ridiculousness and absolutely should have not been written. Shuffled from foster home to foster home okay, but not that. And lithium WOULD NOT be prescribed to her as a child so young. Do some research before writing. It was too convenient that Mia was seen. Her seeing was fine, the other seeing her was convenience writing, very cliche. Her being tracked down due to association and news coverage is believable, that she was able to so conveniently be seen when she’s supposed to be ensuring she’s not was questionable. Mia is totally in the wrong in what she does, and Roman is absolutely right in having his full mad on, she has no room to get all bent out of shape over something she caused. And the nerve to say, “does this mean it’s always going to be there between us and every time I make the smallest mistake…? She didn’t make a small mistake, she made a huge one, not even a mistake, because she made a choice knowing it was not the right thing to do. She brought it in, her past affecting her present and this is what she says when Roman needs time to himself after she tells him about part of her past that’s directly affecting the now?! Mia fast became completely unlikable. She does redeem herself and acknowledges that yes, it truly is all on her, completely her fault, she made the choice and it was wrong. Then the person shows up that she fears showing up and she doesn’t even buzz Roman. No quick call, no text message shot off, nothing. After all she previously caused. And seriously has the thought better Roman wasn’t around. Why? Why must women always be written in this ridiculous way? Mia invites her past INTO HER HOME! Why would she do that? After everything that happened? It makes zero sense, I don’t care what is claimed that she felt from him, like people can’t be deceptive with their thoughts, which she should have totally learned that lesson. Redemption reversed. At this point I want Roman to dump her. Do as I say, or photos I took of you will be turned over to the police and they have no proof I was involved? Really going with that? Because one, how would you have the photo and information to turn in? That was the lamest thing I have ever heard about how she would not be able to take him down with her. Stupid really. Because yes, she would. Because law enforcement is going to ask the question how did you get the picture, who took the picture? And when they start digging into his history, they’re going to find he not clean. Add that he was present at the scene of a murder, he goes down with the one who pulls the trigger. As she picks up her phone and puts it in her pocket, who doesn’t record nowadays? She didn’t use it to text Roman that the person they were anticipating showing up did, and she doesn’t use it for that either? Roman is a former cop, she doesn’t think about that at all. And what’s more stupid is that the person who came at her, he oughta know, he may be a former cop, but he still has cop family, mighty too bold for him to show up at her house. Mia is plain stupid at this point. Such a shame. And it was unbelievable that a freshly resigned detective, who is supposed to be a private investigator, was equally stupid, he might as well not have had that background. The involvement of Dean wasn’t good because it didn’t make sense. Them sitting at a restaurant and Dean gabbing about past crimes was foolishness. More that Mia didn’t shut it down. Mia and Roman racing to discover what needed to be found and Dean on their trail I could see. The rest was okay, areas that could have been reworked or edited out, some convenient writing with few things that happened or didn’t happen. The bad actor was obvious from the moment came on scene, so again convenient writing when it comes to Mia. Quite repetitive, given what happened in the first book. Story involving the Russians was drawn out and not believable. Retrieve what they want, contact them that you found what was taken by sending them what you found with a here you go and should’ve kept the fool who helped take them and hand him over with the other, problem solved. Mia’s ability started out hit or miss in the first book that suddenly was so much more and that continued in this book, unless it was convenient for it to suddenly be not so. Again. It makes me think the author forgot her character set up, changed the script partway in, and then continued on with the faulty script. And sorry, no elite protection team is going to allow a mafia criminal to be within touching/grabbing distance, so that whole scene had me rolling my eyes. Again what I call convenience writing. I’d rather have more reality in the fiction though. Overall, the story was okay, fairly written well, though I’m now done with Mia and Roman for now. I may or may not go on to read the third book. Update: Decided I will not be reading the third book. Have zero desire to after the first two books, less after this second installment and all that occurred.
But I still really enjoy the stories. Mainly because of Roman and the dogs. I like Mia too but she doesn't always think things through. She jeopardized herself, the dogs, Romans family and the city itself. Go wanted her to just stop the search. I really thought they would break up. It was getting bad. The ending was good and looking forward to next one in series.
I enjoyed the first book more than this one. The 'feeling' that Mia had near the end that she couldn't quite figure out what she was missing, I did guess much earlier what and who it was. But I plan to continue reading this series to see what happens next
You know those books that give you all the feels, but not the cozy kind? The ones that leave you frustrated, skeptical, and muttering, “Really, Mia?” Yeah—that’s this book.
Mia isn’t dragged back into her old life—she chooses it. And to make things messier, she admits not just to her past but to working with her father. That choice, even if it started small, is a bombshell. Rowen’s reaction—asking pointed, legitimate questions—is completely fair. But Mia’s inner monologue? Basically: accept me as I am or we’re done. Sorry, but no. You don’t get to throw down an ultimatum when your actions have left wreckage behind.
Rowen, meanwhile, isn’t off the hook either. With his family already fractured in book one, now we’re watching him slide deeper into morally gray territory—all in the name of love. Is that loyalty? Is it weakness? That’s the central tension, and it’s fascinating (and maddening) to watch play out.
If you’re expecting a neat, glittery HEA, this isn’t that story. What you get instead is a messy ride that will have you wanting to shake both characters until their teeth rattle. Predictable at times? Sure. But it kept me analyzing instead of coasting—and sometimes frustration is the point.
Final verdict: 3.75 stars. Not the blissful ending I usually crave, but one that leaves plenty to chew on.

I rarely write reviews. I’m enjoying this series. I like the “paranormal” powers of Mia’s gift. Also, the love between her and Roman. But this one didn’t resonate at the end. I thought I had identified the Traitor early on. I was partially correct. There were two traitors. Then they both got free. Will they show up in later stories? Hmm. Hope not.
So I’m giving this 4 stars. I liked the plot, but not the ending. Will read the next book, just to see if the author can improve the story line and ending. I really like the main characters and will continue just because of them.
The second book in this series has Mia's past coming back to haunt her. This cause problems for her relationship with Roman, but she has to deal with it. As in the first book, I realized one of the guilty early on. In this case it did detract a little from my enjoyment because I couldn't understand how Mia and Roman did not figure it out. Overall it was an enjoyable read with interesting characters.
Mia's dad is back, he's hidden a fortune in diamonds and wants herto help him retrieve the diamonds. I didn't like this part of the book because a parent shouldn't put his child in this kind of danger. The rest of book gets better. It's a good thing this wasn't the first book, I wouldn't bother to finish it.
However, it lagged in places, especially the ending where "resolution" lasted way too long - about 60 pages. I figured out early who the leak was but Mia couldn't with her powers? Didn't like Mia much anyway. First thing she did after getting engaged to the man of her dreams is lie to him to help her crooked father. Disappointing.
Book 2 also had my heart racing! Even though you know what’s going to happen and the little surprises it still has you going! Can’t wait till book #3. It says 3 of 3 but I hope Ms Myles keeps it going.
I read the first one and liked it so much that I immediately downloaded this one. I finished it yesterday and am looking forward to the third one which I pre-ordered.
Loved the book, not sure I would be as forgiving as Roman once again I guessed the ending knew Lou would be involved somewhere, still didn’t take away the enjoyment of the book looking forward to September for another book about Roman and Mia who are being to become favourite characters fir me

Emotional ups and down as Mia and Roman test their relationship versus her past. Lots of baggage! Action involves conflicting gangsters and a past partner con man, as well as her never do well father.
While Mia and Roman learn more about who and what being a couple means, diamonds get in the way. There are times the plot is slow. But the reader can't help believing their relationship will survive.
This book kept me on the edge of my seat . Mia and Roman make a great couple. And this book was filled with nerve wracking adventures. Can’t wait to see what’s coming next.
So much excitement and love! Russian mob, American bad guys and several blasts from the past. I’m so happy Roman decided he was all in with Mia. Love her psychic abilities and her dogs!!
So far have read 2 of the series. First book started this adventure. Second book didn't disappoint. Lively storytelling, moving adventures and nice character development with humans and the dog pack. ENJOY!
I enjoyed this series This book puts an end to a lot of her past I enjoyed this book but found a lot of extra wording that I skipped through I have the next book which I will hold off reading for awhile hoping it will not follow the same story line
This book was good. I don’t normally read these types of books, more into romance, but I enjoyed this one. Lots of exciting moments and plenty of surprises.
