Marnie Cate is a writer of coming of age and urban fantasy novels. Born in an Irish mining town in Montana, she always had a flair for the dramatic and a vivid imagination, and spent her childhood lost in the elaborate worlds she created with the help of her dolls.

One day Marnie Cate was struck by a powerful image in her mind. This seed created the world of Starten and the complicated world of goddesses and their touch on the mortal world.

Inspired by the actress Dame Judi Dench, she pursued her dream of sharing the stories that were brewing in her mind. With the urging of friends and family, she wrote in every spare moment she had.
After countless weekends spent at the local coffee shop typing away and people watching, Marnie finished her first novel, Remember: Protectors of the Elemental Magic. With the world of elemental magic and the humans they lived in released, the stories have just begun.

In addition to the Protectors series, Marnie has written her first women's literature books with A Broken Girl Collection. Chasing Caitlyn and Forgiving Ginger dives into the hard subject of how life's pain shapes us and how we can break the mold.

When not writing, Marnie enjoys reading, coffee and spending time with her family. She lives in Arizona.

Darkly angst laden tale of a woman put through the ringer by multiple evil, deviant and narcissistic males throughout her life from father to rapist to serial cheating husband . With the exception of her gay best friend ,they all reinforced that her only worth lie solely in their highly sexualized vision and ownership.
Until finally a special man within a special family Breaks the cycle eloquently speaks to her worth teaching her about love

This book is so important in today's world. Not only is this a great book for women, but men should read this story as well. The author does an excellent job portraying the struggle to find self-worth amidst sexual abuse, and there's a true-to-life range of relationships to learn from. Highly recommended.

***A Powerful Story of Redemption***

The anger of this young woman is something most of us can relate to. The painful experiences that created her vengeful heart are horrific, but more so when you realize they truly happen to people (male and female). It is easy to understand Caitlyn's plight and the reasons she cannot simply walk away.

Still, this story is deeper. It has layers that meld together some things while tearing apart others. The coolest thing about this story is the journey the protagonist takes because it is one of self-discovery. CHASING CAITLYN isn't about Caitlyn cashing after her demons, but rather, its about her chasing the person she is and the person she ought to be.

With deep topics, which include but are not limited to rape and drug abuse, there is a balance of tenderness with friendship, romance, and hope. This book is a roller coaster of emotions that will have you burning with rage and singing with joy. It is definitely a book you'll be glad to have read!

I began reading , not really knowing what to expect. A quarter way through, I found I didn’t care for character, Caitlin. She had no scruples. However, the story and writing kept me glued.

It was true Caitlyn had gone through a terrible experience and it shaped her life. She had no off switch, and wasn’t shy about her body. She had sex with so many men! Slowly I began to understand she was broken and reacting to the thing troubling the most. As she grew up she recognised this in herself and my low opinion of her, soon turned to one of admiration.

Many of us have done things we’re not particularly proud of, but isn’t that all part of growing up? Caitlyn is no different. She has to work with the cards she has been dealt. If she she hadn’t have come to her senses, I probably wouldn’t have stuck around. Such is the clever writing of author Marnie Cate. Apart from the now intriguing persona of Caitlyn, the author draws some intriguing back characters. Some you love, and others you’ll hate.

The book was published through Norns Triad Publishing, and one of their authors is called J. M. Northup. She is a great writer and you will find several of her books reviewed on this blog. I was simply delighted see Marnie Cate had added her fellow author to the story in one small sentence, and I spotted it!

As Caitlyn fought her way out of a disastrous marriage, I found myself liking her a lot by this time. Her revenge was sweet, and in the only way she knew how. Soon, I found myself heading towards the end of the book, and a bell began ringing. I knew this bit of the story, I’d come across it before.

Having walked out of her marriage, Caitlyn was offered a job with an elderly lady to ghost-write her book. It became more familiar the more I read. I recalled it being part of an anthology that I couldn’t remember the name of. Nor could I remember the names of the characters either. It was the storyline that had stayed with me. It had to have been Marnie Cate. Suddenly, I was excited. I knew someone was going to arrive, and prayed I was right! I was! Oh, how I love a happy ending.

I’ve always believed that put of something bad comes good. There should always be hope. This was so with poor Caitlyn who rightly found the happiness she deserved. Sigh!

I guarantee if you love happy endings, you will adore this.

By the time I had finished I was full of admiration not only for Caitlyn but for Marnie Cate who had weaved such a tale.

A Broken Girl Collection is the name of the trilogy, and suddenly I got it.

As I am in Kindle Unlimited, I’ve downloaded Ginger, the next in the series. I was in for another surprise but I’m not telling to until my next review.

Chasing Caitlyn
By Marnie Cate

This book is a hard read, not because of wording or character choice but its content. The book looks into our own insecurities. How we see ourselves? Whether through rose colored glasses, or the stark white truth, or even in our personal darkness. The reader lives the life if an innocent girl in Caitlyn trying to find her role in life. The setbacks she encounters creates a no win situation, and like all of us she falls. The power of the story is due stands up not just the first devastating time but again and again. Until she hits rock bottom and finds a way to climb out of her hole, counter her mistrust, and conquer her demons. Self doubt is human nature, but being crippled by it only makes things worse. The story shows the final solution is going in with your eyes open. A great lesson for young adults and us older readers who forget that we are not defined by our mistakes.

Poor her

First time reading this author. This book was not what I though,I thought it would be a small town story, ex cheated finds a new love. It's about Caitlyn it's starts as she is a teenager something happens that breaks her, so her causal hook ups or relationships are never good, we get Jeremy at the beginning but then go back in time. Truthfully I found some parts to long and not necessarily, it's also a story of controlling behaviour so not easy to read. I did see the who for happy ever after coming.
I did enjoy the read but the journey felt long the ending was sweet and quick compared to the detail long journey.

This was a journey and the heartbreak that was so realistically described was heartbreaking. The book was written by someone who has researched the subject well. I don’t give spoilers just buy the book and have some tissues handy.

Coming and going

The beginning and ending were the best parts. The middle could have been written a little differently by removing most of the time spent from man to man. I think once she found out about her husband, she would put her plan in gear.

This book is so well written, so engaging, with a clear distinct voice and very prominent message. It is a story that could have easily slipped up and become a "woh is me" cliche but the author does a tremendous job, not only pivoting your perspective and surprising you at several turns, she also defines these turns with a precision that makes complete sense and draws you in. I think this is a great reading opportunity for anyone raising a young man. Yes you read that right. This book does a very good job of pointing out that situations and livelihoods will never truly change until we reach the young men and give them a true perspective on what damage they can do, even if its nonchalant and fairly innocent from their eyes. Beyond the message this is a well paced story that has you zigging and zagging when you least expect too. While I love Thomas as an ancillary character and his role is important, Jack is someone who I aspire to be in my everyday life and he really is the most well rounded character, besides Caitlyn herself of course. There are some shocking elements, turns, and scenes that may not appeal to everyone but beyond that lies a fundamentally true to life story that is told better than most of these I have ever read or even heard about.
