The System is brokenThe Past has returnedAfter the Culling, peace has returned and life at the orphanage is quiet one more. Eli finds himself investigating the mystery of a student's new Class, which seems related to the System itself, as well as dealing with the nuances of his unique relationship with the women of the school. When word arrives that the newly formed kingdoms are looking to track down the legendary Impaler, Eli realizes that the past will no longer stay buried and it's time to revive a project that he swore he would never touch Project Cerberus. It will be the ultimate test of whether Eli can successfully move forward as a person or whether he will be stuck in the Impaler's shadow forever.
A mixed bag of charming & Aggravating as hell When the main character (who is usually intelligent) suddenly gets stupid in just the right way to swerve the story through some improbable plot device. When the main character is freaking out because a minor character is about to die and kill everyone else due to lack of knowledge, and then the MC say "Oh, nothing. You're fine" When the main character tells a misleading half truth that can only be misinterpreted one way, and that way is "I'm a threat to the king" and not "I'm late for a lunch date" as is the case... When I've shouted more obscenities like "NO you moron!" or "OH God! Don't say that!" or the main one "WHAT THE HELL is wrong with you!?" When these conditions apply the cuteness & charm count for less. The cute parts are cute, the the rest of this book is complete bullshit.
...But, I've been having a rough year both at work and at home so your nerves might not be as hair trigger as mine. I gave it an extra star for those of you who won't notice or mind what drove me up the wall.
In the beginning there was this cuteness lovey lovey overload. I like cuteness and loving but by Jove this was close to vomit-inducing.
And the end is... weird. Probably because I got tired of the MC doing stupid things or not paying attention and then I started skipping pages to get to the end. Which was weird, again.
This may be a Harem series by default but the story and world outside the bedroom is awesome. The characters are fun and diverse, full of hope and disappointment. The world is still screwed up as killing the demon lord just traded one problem for more. The MC, Eli, is of course called upon to help fix the worlds problems. The feel of the story is genuine and wholesome. I love the interactions with the children the And Eli's attempts To make them stronger and better able to face a post world war. There were no new women added to the harem this book but im sure the next book will add more. When I found most enjoyable is that the harm does not get any way of the books storyline. An enjoyable book all around.
Things I like about this series and this book in particular: 1. Believable stakes handled maturely. Not all problems can be solved by rushing in and hitting stuff. The characters slow down and help each other think through their problems. 2. We’ll written kids who contribute to the story. 3. Relationships that make sense and that you can easily invest in. 4. A fun plot that progresses nicely and keeps me interested.
Continues to be a great series. These have turned into first-day-reads, and I finished this day-of. Story is progressing well and the rate of harem accretion seems to have reduced to zero after this, but I won't put money on that. Waiting for book 4.
More please, if the future books are at this level, we are going to need more books, lots more, write faster, oh wait, don't sacrifice quality. Damn, I just want more now.
Master Class 3 by Annabelle Hawthorne and Virgil Knightley - 3/5 Stars
First and foremost, I want to state that I'm not an author. I don't know what it takes to write a book; this is just my opinion based on my life experiences. Additionally, I'm the type of person who uses books as escapism. I don't think too much about plot lines or what's going to happen next, and spoilers don't ruin it for me.
"Master Class 3" continues the story of an overpowered, level 100 character in retirement, focusing on his life running an orphanage with his harem. The book is a slice-of-life narrative, mixing mundane daily activities with world-altering dynamics. One of the highlights for me was the character of Mayoria, a little girl who truly steals your heart. Her relationship with the Dungeon adds an interesting twist to the story. However, despite these engaging elements, the book didn't leave a lasting impact on me, earning it a 3 out of 5 stars.
5 stars - Exceptional, life-changing, or will reread multiple times 4 stars - Highly enjoyable, likely to reread, would recommend 3 stars - Decent read, might not remember long-term 2 stars - Not for me, struggled to finish 1 star - Poorly written or factually incorrect
Overall, "Master Class 3" is a decent continuation of the series, offering a mix of character development and fantasy elements, but it didn't quite reach the level of being a memorable read for me.
Simply SUPERB! I need more of Eli and his family! Virgil and Annabelle has done remarkable work. I can’t praise this series enough! I’m begging for Virgil to have the impaler get some get backs of his own against the monarchs that betrayed him and Last Stop. Also, I want to see a more dark side to Eli… people need to know you don’t hurt those kids! I hope he makes a very visual show and example of who sent those clowns to do that horrible mission. I’m impressed with Artemourne, even though he was trash he still had a good streak in him at the end. Man, this is the kind of series that needs more than 4 books. I would love to just see how Eli raises the other kids, have them grow up and see the other older kids mature into full adults and how they’d choose to live their lives. There is so much potential to this series. It would be such a pity for this series just to die off. It’s on of the greats. Also the Easter eggs have me laughing! Hyles certain Romance book with a solar dragon and unicorn 😂🤭…also let me say for the thousandth time Mayari is the best character ever. I’ve read and reviewed close to 2,0000 books and she is in the top 5 of most memorable and loveable characters. No joke. So Virgil and Annabelle hurry up with book four or HIIIIYAAA! I’ll sling rocks at you! (IYKYK) 😉🤫 Onward lads!
This one took a step back and was much less successful than book 2.
Elias has an insurmountable problem to solve, but wait, he has four intelligent, capable women at his back to help him by ... taking him on dates so he can relax. It is such a sad regression to the genre mean for this book. Beyond that, the problem itself just wasn't interesting; it was too large in scope, and the solution too epic in proportion. Everything escalated too quickly and sharply for the whole episode not to come off as forced. On top of that, the book spends little time actually discussing the problem and its solutions, just focusing on Elias spending too much time working on it while the women helplessly fret over him for working too hard.
The ending was predictable, yet it felt clumsy and rushed. Korbo was a complete failure of a subplot. The sister thing seemed entirely pointless, especially the return. They built this tension with Dozer, and he's just a massive nothing burger in this book.
I've enjoyed this series too much to quit now, but this one was the weakest in the series by far. It's like a totally different person wrote this book from the last one. Or, indeed, it was believably written by two different people because of how disjointed so much of the story felt.
I really just read harem books as something to pass the time and seldom get anything more from them than mild entertainment. But Master Class has been so much more than that. I have found myself truly loving these books and have had great charming moments in them. The characters are amazing and it's even charming sometimes. Which is odd paired with the harem part but it has worked so well.
Another great Virgil Knightley book with a lot of fun quotes. Not sure which part was Annabelle Hawthorne’s but it was great all around so she must have done an incredible job too. Looking forward to the next (last?) one. If it’s as good at this one then I’ll finally probably give that one 5 stars. For now, 4 is good enough.
Slice of life, LitRPG, broken system, harem adult situations
Eli has to deal with the three monarchs, a broken Doomsday Device, and adding a forth woman to his bed. Dealing with the first two take everything he has, and it's only with the help of his women that Eli survives and protects his family. Absorbing. Ready for the sequel already!
I so love this series. It is so heartwarming to read of a man who is redeeming himself and helping others in as many ways as he can while still loving 4 women who are helping him solve so many problems that an orphanage has. The children’s comments and viewpoints that the author writes are so cute and real. Can’t wait for the next one!
Surprise ending! Actually satisfying after initial stunned reaction. Cannot wait for book 4 and hopefully more. This is way to good to stop with 4. Wish I would win the Mega Lottery as I would gladly fund more. Oh well I can dream. Nice job to both Authors!
For the most part this book was more about failure than anything else to me. However it was so well written that it came together with all of the characters aligning in the end. I would like to know what buff means in the text. Also is our hero going to save the world with his dog?
While the hanky panky is much less engaging or numerous from previous entries, this one really goes hard on an interesting story and really does well in enrolling the tropes and mechanics of MMORPG into a cohesive story. Also, while the first two books really never had stakes that ever seemed to meet the extreme strength of the main character but this one gives him a difficult enough problem that the resolution was not easily forthcoming.
If you've liked the story in this series at any point then this book is the best of the three so highly recommend. If you just want something sexy, this one is not really for you.
It’s generally low stakes and high humor with people who do things for reasons people do things. The comedy hits nearly always, the emotional arcs are sensible and the high stakes elements work. It’s a fast, fun, read.
This is one of the best fantasy adventure/slice of life series out there!!! Some incredible character and world development that you will ever read!!! If you don't cheer and get choked up a bit at the end if the big battle....
Loving this series and cannot wait for more. One joke in particular stuck out to me because it's one I try to use on occasion but it surely is difficult to find people that understand or remember it.
First half flexes those slice of life muscles by being slow AF. Once people show up in town looking for the Impaler, it starts to get interesting and by the end, I thought it was great. Series continues to average about 3 sex scenes per volume (for better or worse). Looking forward to next volume.
Geese. Nothing worse than a younger with grand cosmic powers. Lol. She is a terror. Luckily she is too cute to stay mad at. Interesting to see the twist to the mutt. And I wonder if there will be repercussions from the botched raid.
I'm an old softie, but the end of this book had me tearing up every other page! I'm really enjoying the storyline and the characters. Looking forward to the next book...
This was such a powerful part of the story. Seeing the older teens take on responsibilities as well as defend Eli and the everyone else. Too bad Tugg is a little oblivious.
Mayari is by far my fav character. This book is pretty good and I'm excited that Eli is going to be less of a pushover. Him being a wimp was not something that seemed to fit his character imo
The series gets better with every book and this one has a satisfying ending. Great character development. As the world is experiencing a sort of system-led apocalypse, there is finally some hope that things are turning around.
Third book in the series and doing well, expands on what we know, moves things forward without just randomly introducing some new enemy or challenge. Heartwarming, many wouldn’t call it wholesome, what with the harem and explicit sex, but I think it kind of is.
Worst book so far and i'm probably going to drop the series. I don't know, it wasn't terrible or anything, but i just don't find myself caring about any of the characters or about anything that happens. I guess books about orphanages aren't for me.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was fun and entertaining. The story and characters were incredibly interesting and engaging. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next. This book is definitely worth checking out.
