BOOK 1: SEVEN DAYS TO DIE A young woman is discovered strangled in Hyde Park. Wearing only one shoe. Close to the body, Detective Jack MacIntosh finds a black stiletto, diamante buckle glinting in the early morning sun. But it doesn’t belong to the victim. Two days later, another young woman is found strangled to death in nearby Green Park. Wearing just one shoe — the matching stiletto. Hidden in the long grass beside the body, the police uncover a low-heeled court shoe. Detective Jack and his team are in a race against time to find the owner of the court shoe before it’s too late.
BOOK 2: FIFTEEN REASONS TO KILL Eighty-one-year-old Eddie Wakefield is found brutally murdered at the nursing home where he lives. Crudely carved into his flesh — while he was still alive — is the number fifteen. Then the second body is discovered. Stabbed to death in their own home. Again, the number fifteen is etched into the dead man’s flesh. What is the significance of the number fifteen . . . and are Detective Jack and his team prepared for the horrifying truth?
BOOK 3: SIXTEEN CARVED PIECES Billie-Rose’s bloodstained body is found in her ground-floor flat. She’s been strangled to death. Daubed on the wall in Billie-Rose’s own blood is a strange symbol: a bishop’s mitre. All Detective Jack MacIntosh can think is: He’s back. Four years earlier, four young women were also strangled to death in their own homes, the same weird symbol scrawled on the wall. The work of the killer they call the Bishop. Is he back to kill again?
Book 4: TWENTY YEARS BURIED The call comes in the early hours. Human remains have been discovered in a suitcase, dumped on the banks of the River Thames. Detective Jack races to the scene. The suitcase contains a human torso, two arms and two legs. It’s the body of a young girl. But where is her head? Then a skull is found embedded in the silt of the riverbed. But it doesn’t belong to the body in the case. As the river offers up its gruesome secrets, Jack uncovers a tangled web of shocking secrets stretching back twenty years.
Really enjoyed these four books. I liked the way the dates were shown and where the action was taking place, either currently or in the past. So easy to read and very well written. All four books continued on from one another which made it more interesting. Jack Macintosh is a likeable character, as are all the other members of his team. I highly recommend these books. Hard to put down. I hope there is more to follow.
Excellent series if you like a bit of gruesome crime. ;)
I wasn't always into the stories, the subplot of Jack's brother and Jack's brother's girlfriend distracted from the overall mysteries but I never stopped reading which is amazing as using text-to-speak the entire collection runs to forty hours. I was actually shipping Jack and Carmichael myself. 😚. The team of junior homicide detectives led by Jack were fun to follow as they developed their slills.
4 books back to back and they were enthralling. My brain went backwards and forwards ‘did he didn’t he’ on so many occasions. By the fourth conclusion I felt that I knew the characters like friends. It couldn’t have ended better for me but please Michelle, let’s have a book 5!
The books can be read as stand-alone stories, but are best read in order - there is a very personal case running through the life of Jack Macintosh. The team is likeable and dedicated and the cases are gruesome but gripping! I have already got book 5 on pre-order, can't wait to find out the next twist in the tale. 😉
Read these 4 books and loved how they just roll into each other although Jack doesn't always follow the law to the letter his end justified the means you think you've solved the mystery and someone else pops up really enjoyable for readers who like crime fiction
The Complete Detective Jack MacIntosh Mysteries Books 1–4 by Michelle Kidd. This box set of 4 books is set in the UK and reads like one of the british detective crime shows you see on TV. Each book contains a separate story but there is an overall story arc that continues over the 4 books. An enjoyable read.
Really enjoyed reading this boxset, fantastic characters first-class plot developing slowly drawing you in keeping you turning the pages to the end.really enjoyed reading these books
Started reading the first book and got hooked, so thought I'd try the second, have now read all four and wish there were more. A really good story line and brilliant writing. Thank you
This box sent was really good very one of the books were worth reading they kept you guessing right to the end also you got to know the people involved looking forward to the next box set of Jack Macintosh
Enjoyed series of books….i very much enjoy working out who did what etc to whom….very well written…good story lines and enjoyable to read. Very good characters …well written so you become Jack or Mac whichever character is at the forefront….next?
I liked the characters, well minus the bad guys. Like putting together a puzzle you can't wait to see finished, if kept me staying up longer than I should of and regretting it every morning. 5 Star's well deserved!
I read these stories back to back which is unusual for me. as I get bored very easily. The one thing I hate is coincidence and there are a couple of times it reads its ugly head but on the whole it didn't spoil my experience.
Each book describes excellent crime stories interspersed with the complex and difficult lives of Inspector Macintosh and his brother. All the books are thoroughly enjoyable reads.
No sleep, lots of whiskey and beer, coffee made with boiling water, then drank "scalding hot", this very dodgy character makes it to Inspector? Frustrating in lots of places. Chapter headings were pretty annoying too. I read the whole series though, so it gave me something to do.
Great stories-well written Progression a bit slow at times Some flashbacks were difficult to follow Loved the ending! Some unexpected twists ! I do hope there will for another book or 2 about Jack Macintosh
This series has a lot of really good twists and turns. I had a hard time shutting off my Kindle at night. I couldn’t wait to read what would happen next.
Really enjoyed this series of four books about a maverick Detective! Kept me out of mischief whilst on holiday. Looking forward to the next book. Julian Tremayne, Pocklington, East Yorkshire
