When Ruby breaks her ankle and is unable to perform at The Loft, a mafia-owned s3x club, Cora is forced to take her twin’s place to make ends meet.
Almost instantly, Ewen McGowan knows that something is off. As he watches his dancer closely for clues, he quickly becomes enamored with her. That obsession ultimately keeps Cora safe from the undesirables her sister has fallen in with.
Dickmatized. That’s what Ewen did to me. Holy swoon! Ewen is definitely top-tier in the Obsessed Alphahole category! He was the perfect contrast to Cora. Our girl was innocent and sweet until pushed out of her safe zone and I loved watching her come into her own. With a perfectly balanced plot to steam ratio, their story kept me, both, on the edge of my seat and fanning myself.
Full disclosure: I started in the middle of the series, having only read Dark Obsessions prior to Corruption. While I don’t feel like it was problematic for reading this book, I do want to go back and read the prior releases! I’m also looking forward to getting to know the enigmatic Alfie in his upcoming story!

(Poor Alfie about got taken out 😂). What a way to lose your vcard. He put the rug in his room, THAT rug 🥺 He’s so cute. The scene where she’s on his lap while meeting Mac and Katie 😳 I was screaming.

I really loved Cora and Ewen together. He’s so obsessed with her but he’s also afraid she won’t like him when she finds out the person he is. Ruby described him as an asshole but he’s so sweet with Cora (unless it’s spicy time) and I loooove when the mmc is only soft for their fmc.

y’all…. I finished this while walking on the treadmill in the gym and let’s just say my heart rate was UP and it wasn’t from walking. This was the dirtiest filth I’ve ever read and I LOVED it. Some parts made me cringe, other parts literally had my mouth agape (ahem, Ewen wink wink) and my eyes bugging out of my head. This was a mf rollercoaster of the nastiest freakiest dirtiest smut ever and violence! 1000000/10 I’m going to be telling everyone about this who likes dark romance because HELL TO THE YES EFFIE!!! You did the damn thing.

Alright buckle the fuck up bitches. I love these books with everything I am and the fact that this is the last in this series had me feeling my feelings before I even started reading. Was that a run on sentence? Don’t know, don’t care at the moment. Ewen is the obsessed dom with no boundaries we all need in our lives. Cora is our sweet and pure fmc with a dark side. I loved them both and this story was a great end to the series. It progresses hot and fast and they fall hard. The torture is exquisitely original and I definitely cried, kinda momentarily sobbed, so be prepared for that. The smut is panty drenching, toe curling, eyes rolling into the back of your skull HOT. I swear I’ll convince every single one of you to read these books.

I asked the author on her Insta a while ago about the safety of the series, and here’s her answer:
“Book 1 and 2 don’t have any OWD or cheating. Book 3 has cheating (she cheats on her abusive boyfriend with the MMC), book 5 doesn’t either have OWD or cheating. And book 4 it’s not cheating as he has an agreement with the fiancé, their engagement is business arrangement only.”

This book had me hooked from the start; I devoured it in one sitting! 🫡 The chemistry and sexual tension between Ewen and Cora are off the charts. 🥵🫶🏻🔥🔥 My only small complaint is that the last 15% felt a little rushed and underwhelming. Nevertheless, I couldn't put it down and enjoyed Ewen and Cora’s steamy story 🤭

Rating this book 4.5 star. I really like this book. I love the way author has described the dark parts as well, which I usually find in wattpad mafia stories. I would have loved more of the mafia and torture part but I also know the book can't be extended much for no reason. Overall, I love it.

Another seriously spicy and super fast paced read by Effie Campbell. 4.5 stars.
Ewes is the literal definition of a walking red flag, but you know red’s such a pretty color. From the moment Cora walks into his club in the place of her twin sister Ruby, he knows something is different about her. What he doesn’t know just yet is that his particular brand of torture is exactly what she’s long been craving.
These two are nothing short of scorching hot.

Wowza Effie! 🥵 Way to finish off this series with a bang!
I was not expecting Ewen to be so depraved but I loved it! Him and Cora were perfectly matched for each other! He craved inflicting pain and she craved feeling it.
Dark Corruption was hot and spicy almost from the get go! Also loved seeing a bit more of Alfie! I cannot wait for his book 🙌🏻

This book was utter filth. It was dark, it was depraved, and it was seriously kinky… I effing loved it.
All of it; Every. Single. Word.
I devoured this book in a day; it had me sat on the edge of my chair dealing with all the feels it was throwing out. Some of the scenes were panty wetting brilliant, make sure you sit on a towel 🥵
Absolute banger to finish the McGowan series with. The kinks in this book were like music to my ears. I’ve come to realise any book with the words ‘good girl’, ‘collar’ and ‘my pet’ in it will be my cup of tea and this one 100% lives up to that theory. This book is the epitome of perfection.
This was a hella spicy, dark Mafia romance. When I say spicy and dark, I mean spicy and dark. I highly recommend checking the TW before starting this book.
I use trigger warning lists as a checklist, as I’m obsessed with all red flags, but this will not be the same for everyone.
The best thing about this book besides the sizzling spice from start to finish was the actual plot. The spice didn’t detract from it in anyway, it actually complimented it.
The character development and the world building were also phenomenal; Effie paints an amazing picture with original characters to boot.
Cora came across quite sweet and innocent in the beginning but you could see the darkness peeping through the cracks. She’s confident but shy at the same time, loving, submissive, funny and sassy.
Ewan was obsessive, possessive, sadistic, fierce, the list goes on. He’s the perfect red flag book boyfriend. His grumpy demeanour lures you in and you fall head over heels for him. I’d happily let him collar me 🫠
Their relationship is fast paced and hot af. They fall fast and they fall hard.
Would highly recommend to those on the search for a read that will leave them with wet panties ♥️.

I flew through this so it wasn’t all bad but…some of it was. The typos and using ‘ instead of “ for dialogue annoyed the crap out of me. The mafia side of things and the conflict with the villain felt lacklustre as well.

I really enjoyed the first few books of the series, but then it went off the rails with Logan’s book and never recovered for Ewen’s. There was so much potential here but it felt rushed and a hot mess at times. Also, the typos! Not to mention the major errors of sections being copied and pasted multiple times over and over again during the torture scenes. The mistakes and then the very thin plot here ….makes this book a real miss.

Ewen and Cora are just down right HOT. The chemistry and spice between this couple was just absolute PERFECTION ✨
If you’ve read any of the previous books in this series you will know that Ewen is the middle McGowan sibling, and let’s just say his book did not disappoint.
Ewen owns a sex club, where Cora’s identical twin sister Ruby works. Now Ewen and Ruby don’t like each other at all and I stress that. Ruby ends up breaking her ankle and of course she cannot work, so she begs and pleads with her sister to fill in while this heals. Hesitantly Cora agrees and it’s not because she’ll be working at a sex club, she’s actually pretty interested in the world of kink👀
On Cora’s first shift Ewen notices there’s something different about ‘Ruby’ aka Cora and by different I mean he starts to feel things toward a woman he despises😂 He figures out pretty fast that Cora is portraying as Ruby and he figures this out of course by following her home.
Ewen becomes absolutely OBSESSED with Cora (yeah it definitely runs in the family *cough* Mac’s *cough* book). And when I say obsessed I mean it, the man sneaks into her apartment many many times and does things that if you wanna know you should read the book😮💨
Without giving too much away, Ewen does confront Cora in the end and offers her a proposal in which he gets her for a week.. now in Ewens head it won’t be a week but he will use this to sweep her off her feet and make her his.
I am sad to be saying goodbye to the McGowan siblings but I cannot wait to see what Effie has in store in future books that’ll possibly be connected to this series.

Oh my goodness! This book literally has me in a ch0kehold. I freaking loved every second of it! I have adored Effie’s writing for ever (you all know this is totally an Effie Stan account!)

I am not reading this series in order😘
Ok I think it should be read in order but when I saw: Virgin heroine, twin swap and s3x club I couldn’t wait… 👀
However I have to remove a point because:
- the MMC did a scene at the club with the sister!!! WTF…. Ok he couldn’t care less and the whole think only last two lines but still can you imagine the family dinner … “yes I remember your sister I used a riding crop on her 🍑” heurk…
- not a fan of degradation
- not a fan of the “pet” nickname… I always picture my cat 🐈⬛
Other than that everything is as expected.
What I like most about those books is that they don’t do the deed until at least 50% into the book … it keeps me on edge!

I have adored this entire series and this was an amazing closer to the McGowan story. I loved this book so much. Ewen is just so open with Cora. Like he just shares everything he thinks and feels automatically like it’s as natural as breathing and I couldn’t get enough of that!
And the spicy parts were 🥵🥵🥵🫠🫠🫠 Holy crap I’m still melting over here.
Also! The plot was great too! Definitely had some “oh s**t” moments with some bada** resolutions.
Absolutely worth the read!

Dark Corruption is the 5th book in the McGowan Mafia Series by Effie Campbell.
I did it - I read it - and I enjoyed it.
I am not a big Mafia trope fan girl - But.. I started the series last year and of course I am no quitter - I needed to read them all. I enjoyed the dark romance theme throughout the series and that's what sold me with this series. And of course the smut was on point. *wink*
