I grew up on a small farm on the outskirts of Sydney and as a keen horse rider, often competed in local gymkhanas and even broke in a few horses from time to time. As I was surrounded by animals, I decided at an early age to become a nurse, however I couldn’t stand the sight of blood and so opted for a career in teaching. It’s a bit ironic that I married a surgeon.

I read my first Mills & Boon novel when I was 17 and that encouraged me to continue reading romance novels; the lure of the tall dark handsome hero, who in reality I fell in love with and knew I was going to marry on our second date! After marrying a year later, we moved to Scotland with our six week old baby so my husband could work and study for his MD in surgery. After the birth of our second son we came back to Australia to settle in Tasmania.

I went back to University and up-graded my teaching diploma to a degree and then went on to do a Masters but still I felt as if something was missing. I sat down one day and began writing and everything clicked into place - I had finally found ‘my brilliant career’! I used to write from instinct rather than a specific plan, but now, so many books later I find a loose plan doesn't go astray. An idea will pop into my head, sometimes it will be just a simple phrase or a what if question and I'm away.

Writing is a skill that can be learned and the best way to learn it is to read and to write. So many people feel they have a novel in them and very probably they are right-the only trick is to get it out. My advice to ‘would be’ writers is to write, write, and write even more. Carry a notebook at all times and jot down ideas. And like any other activity the more you do, the more it feels comfortable.

I hope you enjoy my stories and look forward to hearing from you.

How appropriate that I read this on April 1st, because it was one big joke. I suppose it's no surprise that the infamous porno star from Deserving of His Diamonds? was really an innocent victim, but even aside from that, this has got a sloppier narrative than "The Teddy Bear's Picnic."

Major plotholes:

1) Sienna and Andreas are told that under his father's will, they must marry or a property Andreas desperately wants will go to an unpleasant relative. The terms of the will say that if either one refuses to cooperate, the other one gets the estate. So why does Andreas, who was planning to marry someone else, keep pressuring her to cooperate? And why doesn't he just get the property when she initially refuses?

2) Sienna was involved in an enormous scandal involving an internet sex tape; it nearly ruined her twin sister's life in the first book. When she tells the real story to Andreas -- she was drunk or possibly drugged and woke up naked -- he quite reasonably points out she was the victim of a crime. She says, "I didn't know if a crime had been committed. The tape showed me kissing that guy and him kissing me and his arms and hands all over me, but there was no way of knowing if anything else had happened." Yes, that's the stuff of which huge life-ruining scandals are made, alright -- something you could watch on any cable channel. (Not to mention, even if he didn't rape her, it was still assault, and filming her without her consent.)

3) Sienna was married to a gay man, as his beard. Because of course the woman a man would choose to help him maintain a respectable public cover is one who's recently been involved in a huge sex scandal.

4) Sienna was the poor daughter of Andrea's father's housekeeper and mistress. She disliked his father and there's no indication that he ever gave her anything. Just where did she get the money and time to be a celebrity "Nightclub Nymphet" who's always in the papers?

The excess of stupid -- which even leaks out to make the first book stupider, since everyone actually knew who the woman in the tape was -- made it hard to get caught up in the parts of the story that weren't completely idiotic, and I never much cared whether Andreas and Sienna would end up together.

(ETA - fixed the link!)

I usually like the misunderstood bad girl heroine, but this identical sister to the heroine of Deserving of His Diamonds? was a bit too obnoxious for me. The hero was equally strident in his "hatred" of the heroine. They both doth protest too much and it got repetitive.

The reason the hero's father set the terms of his will that the H/h had to be married for six months is never really explained. The heroine's mother (as his father's mistress) was one of the reasons the hero had a bad relationship with his father.

I don't blame the hero for being wary of the heroine who tried to seduce him when she was 17, and then "starred" in a sex tape which broke up her identical twin's relationship for two years. The heroine never explains anything to anyone, so a lot of her angst was of her own making.

The heroine was really immature, and the hero was, too. He would stomp off or hurl insults. It was all very tiring.

I was glad the hero actually went after the guy who set up the heroine in the sex tape. Finally someone pays for their crimes!

If you like a lot of bickering, then this one is for you.

This was a pretty intense read. One of those romances where extreme hate between the main couple is really suppressed longing and desire. In real life, I don't know if I think that suppressed love translates into hate, but "Hope deferred does make the heart sick." My goodness, Andreas and Sienna are super-duper mean to each other. And Andreas is a hypocrite. He's the kind of guy who calls a woman a whore because she doesn't do what he wants her to do and she doesn't fit his mold for what he wants a woman to be. I didn't like that about him at all. I did like the fact that Sienna could easily trade insults with him. It took me a while to think that I even wanted these two to be together. There were times when I didn't particularly like either character. Sienna says and thinks some really mercenary and selfish things, and I didn't like that about her. However, I could understand why she was so prickly and thick-skinned, considering her tough life and living with an arrested development mother with terrible morals and being rejected by her married father. I wish that Andreas had shown more sympathy and empathy for Sienna. When he finally starts acting like a decent man, it was almost too late for me to feel I wanted him to be with Sienna. I did like that he went after her when she left him.

I thought that despite the meanness between them, there was good chemistry and I did see their relationship change, develop and blossom. With the conclusion of the book, I had hopes that they would not take each other for granted any longer, and that love had changed both of their hearts and lives.

I don't know if this book will work for everyone. The leads are at times unlikable and mean-spirited. However, I did see a change in both characters and that their feelings for each other weren't just reluctant lust, but real love. For that reason, I gave it four stars.

Sienna Baker is forced to marry Andreas Ferrante through the will of his deceased father. They have to remain married for six months, after which Andreas will inherit his mother's property, and Sienna will get a tidy payout. If one of them defaults on the arrangement, everything goes to the other person. Sienna and Andreas have hated each other ever since Sienna's mother worked for Andreas' father, and had an affair with him. There's also the matter of Sienna attempting to seduce Andreas when she was 17 and him rejecting her advances. Of course, despite hating each other and hurling hurtful statements at one another, there's a strong attraction as well.

Ah, the forced marriage trope. It really only exists in the ironically-monikered Modern line (which is generally the most outdated of all the category lines). Because the stories are so outdated, though, the trope can usually work. Not here, because it's never really made clear why Andreas' father would put such a bizarre stipulation in his will for Andreas to follow. There's some hints it's because his father didn't want him to accept any woman who would meekly submit to him the way Andreas' mother had submitted to his father. But Andreas' father isn't portrayed as anything other than selfish and cold, so it makes no sense he would want to impart some sort of life lesson like this on his son.

And as for Sienna and Andreas hating each other? I suppose because they can. Apparently Sienna made herself look like the innocent victim rather than the seductress when she attempted to seduce Andreas, but absolutely zero details are given about what she said or did. So Andreas comes off as something of a child for spending eight years hating Sienna for this. As for Sienna hating Andreas, was it simply because he rejected her? I have no idea. But hate each other they do, which is evident through Andreas charmingly calling Sienna a slut and a whore to her face for half the book. He also grabs her wrist hard enough to cause bruising. That's assault. Not my idea of a "hero".

The extreme slut-shaming that goes on here was really hard for me to stomach. When Andreas learns that Sienna has only had sex a couple of times and isn't the sleep-around party princess the media has made her out to be, he figures he should be nicer to her. This is what really turned me off him. If a woman enjoys sex and has had many partners, does that mean she is not worthy of love or respect? That's what I hate most about this line. The attitudes are so vile and out of date, and it's very galling to me they're written by women. I've read more than a few books in this line that I've given 4 stars to, but this one represents much of what make me generally avoid it.

I thought Sienna's character was well-developed even if she was a bit too "poor me" for my liking. I didn't like Andreas. I thought he was a pig. I don't find a man who throws out insults like slut and whore so easily to be sexy or romantic at all. In the Intrigue line, a hero would punch out a guy who called another woman those words. That's why that line is my go-to for romance. I will concede that Andreas' act to prove his love for Sienna was very well realised. She wants a man to acknowledge and defend her, the way Andreas' father never did for her mother, which Andreas was able to do. So that was good.

But the forced marriage set-up didn't hold together. I couldn't quite comprehend why Sienna and Andreas hated each other so much. They even acknowledge that if it weren't for Andreas' father's machinations, they would never have spoken again. The fact that a poorly conceived forced marriage trope is the only way to even get these two into close proximity to one another shows how shaky the foundation of their romance/love is.

It was an intense book, liked Sienna a lot,she was strong and warm person who lived the life way she wanted and hid her real self behind that fake rep that press has potrayed, she committed some mistakes which she regrets but learned from it,both Sienna-Andreas shared a history and both hated each other, threw insults at each other,Sienna stood and gave back whatever he threw at her,Andreas looked upon her with disgust and called her names which i did not like. The plot was good and after so much hate they both fall in love and find their HEA.

I was conflicted about how much to rate it 3 or 4,came to this solution-its a 3 star rating story but giving an extra star for Sienna.
Good read.

Starts off unpleasantly and carries on for what felt like an eternity. This is so melodramatic and over the top. The heroine’s unwillingness to stand up and defend herself about her past annoyed me. I found her behaviour irritating and implausible. Andreas was more understandable.
The constant bitter hostility made it impossible for me to accept the sexual, attraction. I simply couldn’t believe that either of them could forget their hatred and disgust long enough to feel sexually attracted to each other. I hated the fact that she ran away and wouldn’t respond to his calls. She was a total wreck.

This was part of a trio by MM that I bought - and I didn’t really like any of them.

Sorry, this writer is not for me. Her heroines (at least the three I read) are simply awful. Everything is so over egged and over the top! There were some fabulous scenes in this one after they married but sadly, overall I hated it.

Unlikable heroines are my biggest pet peeves and in this story, the heroine was impossible for me to warm up to or even care about. Even her sad history didn’t thaw her out for me. I had a heck of a time pushing through to the ending of this one.

After reading the blurb of the book I felt that it sounded remarkably similar to Melanie Milburne's 'The Wedding Charade', although this slightly disappointed me I do love this author's style so I knew I wanted to read it. And while the book had some of the same themes as 'The Wedding Charade', the overall story was different enough, which made me feel a lot better! I found this book thoroughly enjoyable, actually.

The relationship between the hero and heroine can only be described as stormy! There is so much fire between them and their interactions are full of heat and animosity; the pages virtually crackle. I loved the heroine's honesty; she is a really well drawn character and there are many understandable layers to her personality and not all of them are good. The hero is cruel to the heroine, unforgivably so at times, yet the heroine gives it all back and stands up for herself. Exactly the kind of heroine I like.

There isn't any downtime or dull moments in this story, it's chock full of passion, hate, greed, need, etc. right from the word go. This makes for some intense reading - something this author does brilliantly.

The story is very powerful and the love-story at the centre of it all really shines in it's simplicity. A great book from one of my favourite category romance authors!

This came up in my recommended list, I downloaded a sample on Amazon and bam, HAD to have it!

This story was so refreshing because Sienna was feisty but in a great way and it was such a neat read how she was portrayed.

Knowing this was book 2 I thought I'd go and get Deserving of His Diamonds (the story of Sienna's twin sister) and I have to say the books are both night and day in terms of characters but I loved them as much.

When I have more time I will pad this review more but I just wanted to say... read it :)

In this the second book of the outrageous sisters duo Mrs Milburne as certainly done it again. It was a book of blackmail and romance and a almost forbidden passion.

I loved how Sienna gave as good as she got right back to Andreas, the man called her all sorts of names that would make a normal woman back down and just give up but not Sienna. The author made her strong and willing to fight back I just loved it !!!

And Andreas what a delicious character Mrs Milburne you certainly had be on the edge of my seat !

I cannot wait to see what next incredible wonderful story the author dreams up for us next !!

I did not enjoy this book. It wasn't particularly well written, especially the dialogue, which hardly ever seemed natural. The biggest disappointment was the sexism. The fact that Sienna was vehemently slut-shamed throughout the book by Andreas reflects chronic sexist undertones, particularly insofar as her worth was only apparent after Andreas discovered she'd slept with 2 men. The fact that she had to conform to his sexual expectations before she was able to receive any respect is appalling. And while I know that these types of romances are supposed to be escapist, I still find the plot to be ridiculously forced. Nope. Did not enjoy this book at all.

Unexpected passion gets in the way of settling old scores in Melanie Milburne’s final title in her outstanding Outrageous Sisters duet, Enemies at the Altar.

Andreas Ferrante has got good reason to despise Sienna Baker. Sienna’s mother had been solely responsible for breaking his mother’s heart and ruining her life when she had shamelessly seduced Andreas’ father – and now to add insult to injury Sienna has brazenly turned up at his father’s funeral and rekindled all the pain, suffering and misery which Andreas had been subjected to as a child because of his father’s infidelity! Determined to keep Sienna at arm’s length, Andreas is adamant that she will not ruin his father’s funeral with her scandalous behavior. But just when he’s about to eject her from his life once and for all, Andreas’ lawyer drops a bombshell: the only way he can claim his inheritance is if he marries the one woman he hates more than anyone else in the world: Sienna Baker!

Knowing how much her mother had loved Guido Ferrante, Sienna had had no other option but to swallow her pride and honour the memory of the man who had meant everything to her mother. Determined to hide in the shadows and not attract anybody’s attention, Sienna just wanted to pay her respects to the man who made her mother so happy – she certainly never wanted to have anything to do with the arrogant Andreas Ferrante! Sienna still has nightmares about the last time she had clapped eyes on Andreas where, as a naïve teenager, she had tried – and failed – to seduce the devastatingly attractive heir to the Ferrante fortune. Stirring up old memories and raking up the past is the last thing Sienna wants, but when she is forced into a convenient marriage with Andreas, all those old feelings which she has tried so hard to bury come rushing back with a vengeance!

With her love of partying and a penchant for getting into trouble, Sienna is far removed from Andreas’ idea of a suitable bride, but when fate throws the two of them in close proximity together, he quickly begins to see his inconvenient bride in an entirely different light. Wild passion quickly gives way to something more, but are Sienna and Andreas prepared to face up to the truth about their feelings for one another? Or will they continue to be held hostage by the past?

Having first met Sienna in the previous title of Melanie Milburne’s Outrageous Duet series, I wasn’t sure whether she could be redeemed, but as always, this talented USA Today best-selling author has done a terrific job and created a believable, vulnerable and wonderfully nuanced heroine readers are sure to admire and relate to. I also fell in love with the wickedly brooding Andreas Ferrante from the very first moment he strutted onto the scene. Strong, charismatic and absolutely gorgeous, this delicious Alpha hero is sure to make readers swoon!

An action packed and emotionally charged romantic page-turner, Enemies at the Altar is a riveting tale of old secrets, bitter feuds and forbidden passion that has got irresistible written all over it!

ENEMIES AT THE ALTAR by author Melanie Milburne is Mills & Boon Modern and Sexy release for July 2012.

Billionaire Andreas Ferrante certainly didn't want to see Sienna Baker at his father's funeral, let alone expect to inherit jointly from his will. His father made a clause for Andreas and Sienna to stay married to each other for six months for him to inherit his mother's estate.

Now Andreas would do anything to keep his mother's estate in his family, but would he marry Sienna?

Sienna had a teenage crush on Andreas but when he had rejected her, she had certainly moved on. She hated him and all he stood for now, will she marry him for money?

And after their marriage, when they discover the volatile attraction between them, what will they do? After all they married for six months only.
Would Andreas let her go after the six months is over? And does Sienna have the courage to take a stand or would she be meek like her own mother?

ENEMIES AT THE ALTAR has engaging characters and an intriguing plot. The romance is outstanding with great sexual tension and chemistry between Andreas and Sienna. Author Melanie Milburne seemed to be writing about real people in situations that could happen. The dialogue is snappy and fun and story is very fast paced. I loved this miniseries of The Outrageous Sisters. The first book was DESERVING OF HIS DIAMONDS? This depicted Sienna's twin Gisele's story.

Well worth reading.

I love heroines who are brash so I thoroughly enjoyed this story.

It's a marriage of convenience story packed with glamour, heat, emotions and self discovery.

HAHAHA.

Btw, bete banget liat tampang kusut di sampul -_-
Tapi tak apalah kali aja ini cerita yang termasuk "don't judge a book by it's cover". Dan, TARA, bener banget euy.

Judul dan blurbnya menarik. Gaya bahasa dan penulisannya mengalir dengan lembut. Penokohannya oke banget sampe jadi Baper.

Mirip sama Sienna Tjahrir. HAHAHA.

Dan jangan lupakan ke-gentle-an Andreas setelah tragedi itu. Duh duh jadi keinget Andreasnya Libby Westerling.

Ok, this is a first, I am giving a Harlequin 4 stars because I am sitting here with tears running down my cheeks. This is 2nd in a series.of which I did not read the first, but all was explained. Two very hurting people think they hate each other, but of course they don't. A very strong woman manages to fight against her own inclinations, as does our hero.
Plus, there is a sad mangy dog who shows the way to love.

"Enemies at the Altar" is the story of Sienna and Andreas.

What a fantastic read!

A wonderfully written enemies to lovers, second chance? romance with insane amount of banter, a sassy and strong heroine, a confused yet angry hero, sexy lovemaking, some drama, small misunderstandings but all resolve in a HEA.

I rooted for her so bad. The heroine was an utter delight and such a novelty in HP universe. YOU GO GIRL.

Adored this one.

I would've liked a bit more of an explanation as to why the will was written how it was. I kept waiting for it all to be explained but I really enjoyed the story and the two main characters were great together. I like it when the male character realises he had the wrong end of the stick and actually apologised.

Lagi2 not my cup of tea but it's okay. Cukup menghibur sih, apalagi interaksi tokoh pria dan wanita ketika berkelahi haha. Aku hanya tidak suka penjabaran ttg hasrat s*ksual yg rasanya terlalu berlebihan, but itu ciri khas novel romance harlequin kan ya?

I would have liked to see this fleshed out a lot more. It had a lot going on... But due to the nature of the book, not as much time to unpack it. I liked Sienna, and I felt bad for her scars.
