The story is about a Duke who opened his own theater. He booked a very famous ballerina for its opening act. Unfortunately, when the dance troupe arrives, it's without its star. The H has no choice but to allow the understudy to perform. Luckily, Brie is a brilliant dancer, and the audience comes in droves each night.

Brie works harder than most ballerinas. When her parents died, she discovered she was a founding. Her "uncle" inherited the home and kicked her out when she was 14 years old. She made her way to Paris and fought for a place in the school. Brie dedicates her whole life to ballet, and she refuses to become anyone's mistress.

The MC have an instant connection to each other but must maintain their boundaries. The H respects the h's morals and tries to stay away, but isn't that successful (when are they ever?). How long can they deny their feelings for one another?

Brie is also using the opportunity in England to discover her parentage. She has some clues and hires a private investigator. Meanwhile, someone is trying to scare her to leave the country. I wonder who? 🤔

Conclusion:
I noticed more flaws in the story this second time round, but I think I was looking for them. This is a "just go with it" type of book, so you have to give some leniency to the plot. I wasn't big on the dramatic (kidnapping) ending. Though, I still enjoyed the rest of the book!

This is more of a 3.5 to 4 star book for me, but I added an extra star for being rereadable. I would still recommend others to give it a try!

Read: 7/6/20
My favorite by this author. A good, unique read! I love how the heroine ballerina refuses to be a mistress.

The Duke's Fallen Angel by Amy Jarecki is a Prelude to the Devilish Duke Series. This is Britannia 'Bria' LeClair and Drake Chadwick, The Duke of Ravenscar.
Drake has stopped at no cost to make sure the Chadwick Theater opening is the best it can be. Drake had thought he had secured the famous Mademoiselle Taglioni but she jumped shipped to join a Pairs Opera. In her place a understudy named Britannia has been sent. Of course Drake was outraged but when he saw Bria dance he thought to make the best of this situation. Bria is out to make a name for herself and not fail at her big chance to move forward in her goal. Where the other dancers knows that they will and have to find benefactors to keep them as mistresses, Bria has other plans. But Bria and Drake attraction starts to grow into more but can they be together when they are from different stations?
Loved reading their story...I couldn't put it down. I can't wait for more books in this series!

Series: Prelude to the Devilish Dukes Series
Publication Date: 10/9/18

I can’t begin to tell you how much I enjoyed this book. The writing is so smooth, full and robust that it just magically flows like a fine wine from scene to scene. Be sure to start reading early in the day because once you start, you won’t want to put it down. The characters are fully relatable, the villain is vile and the action and chase scenes are heart-stopping. It is just the kind of book I like – filled with excitement, drama, and romance!

Drake Alexander Thomas Chadwick, Duke of Ravenscar is twenty-five years old, seventh in line to the throne of England, rich, powerful, and handsome. What are his greatest passions? Theater, opera, ballet and Shakespeare and he’s in the process of opening his own theater, Chadwick House, to showcase those arts. He’s so determined that he’s even put up his mother’s home as collateral for the building expenses. Now, he is almost ready to open and he has secured the most magnificent French ballerina, Marie Taglioni, to star in his opening program, La Sylphide. He saw her perform this program in France and was mesmerized by her and he just can’t wait to introduce her and the ballet to England. The success of his theater and his fortune are riding on her tiny, talented, pointed toes.

When the troop finally arrives from France, Drake is flabbergasted to learn that Marie Taglioni did not accompany them and instead sent her understudy. Anger doesn’t even begin to describe how Drake feels as he rushes over to the theater to demand explanations and vent his temper. What is he going to do now – he has an understudy – an understudy!!! Yet, when he demands that the troop perform for him right then – in their traveling clothes – no matter how tired they are – he is absolutely stunned. This tiny slip of a girl is the most amazing dancer he has ever seen – so maybe his theater is saved after all.

Five years ago, when she was just fourteen, Britannia (Bria) LeClair learned that she was a foundling. Oh! How that hurt. The people she thought were her mother and father had just died of smallpox and her ‘uncle’ inherited everything. He promptly showed her her baptismal record and then told her she had to leave – no money – nothing. She had a few coins in her pocket and a precious keepsake she’d found after the LeClair’s died. That keepsake – a miniature portrait and a handkerchief contained in a lovely wooden box with her name on its top – could it have belonged to a relative? Her mother?

When she left her home, she made her way to Paris and the Paris Opera Ballet School where she begged the director for a spot in the school. He didn’t even want to see her, but she was persistent and finally convinced him. Ballet has been her life for the five years since then. She’s worked harder and longer hours than anyone else in the school and has finally worked her way up the being the understudy to Marie Taglioni. Now, she is so excited to be going to England to star as the lead in La Sylphide. She absolutely MUST be successful in this role in order to secure her future and she can also search for the lady in the miniature portrait. She couldn’t find her in France, so maybe she is in England.

The opening performance was phenomenal – London had never seen anything like it and Bria was the toast of the town. Every performance was sold out. Her admirers were legion, but she would NEVER, EVER be anyone’s mistress. Yes, she knew that all performers were seen as promiscuous, but she wouldn’t be one of them. As she and Drake spent more time together and got to know each other better their attraction grew and grew. They both fought it because they knew that there was only one relationship that could be between a Duke and a ballerina and Bria wouldn’t be a part of that.

As they come to care for each other more and more, strange things begin to happen to Bria. Someone trashing her room and her dressing room, strange accidents that aren’t accidents. Drake will do anything to keep Bria safe, but it won’t be easy because the villain is cunning. You’ll probably figure out who the villain is and who her parents were early on, but it will still keep you guessing about what will happen next – right up to the exciting ending.

All-in-all, it was a great read and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The Duke's Fallen Angel: Prelude to the Devilish Dukes Series by Amy Jarecki.

Wow, when Amy Jarecki, known to me for her Scottish Highlander romances, decided to write a book set in Georgian times in England I wondered how she would take to the new genre. The answer...fabulously. What an absolute delight this book was to read. Once I started it I couldn't put it down until it was finished, even though that happened to be 2 AM! The more I got into the story, the more exciting it was and I knew I could never sleep until I found out how it ended. I wasn't disappointed.

Drake the Duke of Ravenscar has put all his money and reputation into having a beautiful theatre built in which he wants to show only the best ballet performances. The grand opening of the theatre was to be the night the ballet La Sylphide premiered in London featuring Marie Taglioni, a famous Parisian dancer as lead dancer. At the last minute she pulls out and an understudy arrives in London to take her place. That woman is Brittania LeClair.

Bria was 14 when she found out that the people that raised her weren't her actual parents. When they died of smallpox her 'uncle' quickly told her that she was a foundling and pretty much kicked her out onto the streets. She managed to survive thanks to her ballet, and she has practised more than any other to make sure she is as perfect as she can possibly be. The only thing that will make Bria's life complete is perhaps one day to marry and to have children, but also for her to find out who her true parents are. She has a couple of clues to go on, but as yet she is no closer to discovering their identity than she was when she first started her search.

When Drake finds out that an understudy is going to be the lead dancer and not the woman who had drawn so many ticket sales he believes he will be ruined. But when he sees Bria dance he is enthralled, she may not be what the socialites are used to, but she is an exquisite dancer in his eyes. Will ticket sales still soar, and will Drake's theatre be the success he has always dreamed of!

That is just one aspect of the story, there is also the possible romance developing between Bria and Drake despite them not being of equal class and that Bria will be going back to France when the season is over.

Add to that the search for Bria's real parents which in itself is intriguing on its own. But when her life ends up in jeopardy thanks to her questioning, Drake comes into his own and easily takes up the role of a handsome hero.

There was never a dull moment from start to finish in this book. It just kept getting better and better, the excitement building up to its exciting climax. Which reminds me, the passionate scenes between Bria and Drake were written so beautifully. Not just sexy but very sensual too. It was one of those times when a girl just has to reach for a fan!

I cannot recommend this book highly enough, and I am so thrilled that Amy Jarecki has decided to also write in this genre because she is a natural at it!! I can't wait to read the next book in the series!!

Drake Alexander Thomas Chadwick, Duke of Ravenscar has decided to open an opera house and he’s wants the London troupe performing the lead in La Sylphide and Marie Taglioni to be his star studded opening day extravaganza. Drake is flabbergasted to learn that Marie Taglioni did not accompany them and instead they sent her understudy. Britannia LeClair arrives in London excited to be performing the lead in La Sylphide. Britannia has been dreaming of being ballet dancer, but first she must impress the Duke with her talents to perform. Being in London is an opportunity for Britannia to find to some information of her heritage, after her supposed parents died she found out she’s a foundling and she found a box with Britannia, her name, on it was a miniature portrait of her a woman and a handkerchief with the Prince regency coat of arms on it. She hires a Bow Street runner to investigate for her to see if the woman is still alive.
Drake and Britannia are attracted to each other, but Drake he needs to keep their relationship master/servant and Britannia fells she will never ever be anyone’s mistress. As Drake and Britannia spent more time together they get to know each other better their attraction grows from a smoldering passions to a sizzling passion they can no longer deny. I love how protective Drake is of Britannia, she knows there is no possible relationship for them she’s not of the nobility and she’ll never be his mistress. Britannia receives warning about looking into the miniature portrait and her parents. Drake will do anything to keep Bria safe, but it won’t be easy because the villain is cunning. A captivating story of compassion, love everlasting and enduring as two people look to overcome society’s prejudices and find a love worth fighting for! This is my honest opinions after I voluntarily read a copy of this book that was provided to me with no requirements for a review.

The Duke’s Fallen Angel by Amy Jarecki
Devilish Dukes #1

Drake Chadwick, Duke of Ravenscar has built a fabulous theater that will provide ballet, opera and more to the elite of London. His first performance will star a ballerina – the best ballerina – in Europe. Well, imagine his surprise and dismay when the woman he is expecting does not appear with the ballet troupe and instead her understudy, Britannia “Bria” LeClair, is presented in her place. He is not happy and trying to figure out how to save face and prevent his theater from failing when he sees her dance…oh my!

This book was a delight! Bria takes Drake’s words to heart and provides a performance that those in the audience will never forget and in so doing makes a name for herself. In spite of the adulation and fawning over her she remains true to what she believes is important and continues to work hard to present perfection each time she appears on stage. She also is in search of who her parents might be and uses two items left to her to inquire of those she meets. As the story progresses romance does occur between Drake and Bria in spite of the disparity between their stations in society. When nefarious deeds begin occurring and Bria’s life is endangered Drake is made fully aware of just how much Bria has come to mean to him and is willing to do anything to make sure she will remain at his side.

This is a story I could not put down. Finding out that the author knows not only the history of the era but knows ballet well was readily apparent as I read. I cannot wait to read what will happen next in the book to follow and wonder who will star in it as I type this review.

Did I enjoy this book? Definitely!
Will I read more in this series? Without a doubt!

Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.

The Duke's Falling Angel was Enchanting!! I felt so many different emotions reading this very well crafted story. The author gives and accurate portrayal of the Georgian Era. Delightful and Lovable H/H.

Drake Chadwick the Duke of Ravenscar has opened his newly built Chadwick theater. He is hired a famous French To Dancing Ballerina to open the new theater. But when she doesn't show up but instead sends her understudy. The Duke is furious and doubtful until he sees the Britannia/Bria Le Clair dance. She is Amazing her talent as a toe dance is off the charts.

Bria finds out when her parents died that she was really a foundling. She finds a box with her named engraved on it. Inside was a necklace with a miniature portrait of a beautiful lady and a handkerchief with King Georges Royal initials and signa stitched on it and a small pouch of money. This leads Bria to believe she is not French but British but who is she? The Le Clair's that raised her have died and left her alone at age 14. There nephew inherits there everything. He immediately tells Bria to leave as she is not blood kin. Bria makes her way to a Ballet school to study.

At 19, 5 years later she is now the lead in The Duke of Ravenscar's Ballet. The two meet and there is an instant attraction. But proprieties must be kept. She is a lowly founding Ballerina? and he is a Duke 7th in line to the Crown.

Bria starts and investigation into her identity. She looks a lot like the lady in the miniature portrait. Then the accidents start to happen and notes threating her start to arrive. Once Drake the Duke of Ravenscar figures out someone is trying to kill her he makes her tell him why.

They soon figure who Bria is an what happen to her. But the villain was easily identified. Bria and Drake do get there HEA . My only complaint is the villain's of the story didn't get there proper end. They deserved to suffer just like they made and innocent child and young lady suffer. This was the only disappointment in the story. The passion and love that Drake and Bria have is beautifully written. I loved the kind and compassion that they both had in common. What a Lovely Couple. I hope to see them again.

This is a new road for Amy Jarecki as the first in Georgian time period. From the first you are drawn in with the hero, Drake Duke of Ravenscar who is betting his home in that he will make England fall in love with his owning a theatrical company, Then the heroine, is thrown in to cover the main ballerina that the Duke is expecting and the Duke is furious that he will be made a laughing stock, lose his home and having his mother upset with him.
Bria, is a beautiful young girl that fights her way up the ballerina field by having to prove that she was a dancer, and at the same time trying to find out who her parents were.
Enter a evil double dealing investigator, a old Duke trying to keep her away from her mother and mishaps of dangerous deeds that try to make Bria go back to France or to get rid of her. In this book I really could not put it down, the friction between Bria and Drake hits you at the first meeting between the two. You can see and feel their attraction and how they try to stay apart because of their status.
Amy has brought Bria's and Drakes love to the forefront of the book and the road that they had to travel to be together is filled with tension, heat, and feelings of danger but when together they fall deeper into fate's plan.
This is a wonderful book by Amy Jarecki and she has really pulled together a couple that will be hard to forget. Hope she will bring them back in future books for she also has some secondary characters that Amy could write some wonderful books for them. You will love not just this book but all Amy's books. I do.

The romance just steams off the page. Enthralling, captivating, enchanting, intoxicating...words that this story evoked in me! I so wanted these two to defy convention and get their HEA!!! Amy captured my heart very quickly in this story despite knowing nothing about ballet or french! Dance is definitely Amy's first love.

Drake, the Duke of Ravenscar is opening what he plans is the primer theatre in London and has booked the most renowned ballerina in the world to open it. He's staked everything on this venture and it MUST succeed. When he meets the ship from Paris his star isn't on it but an unknown foundling understudy instead! He's ruined he's sure. Britannia LeClair is an orphan raised by a loving couple outside of Paris where she learns everything she needs to be part of the Paris Opera Ballet. She has risen to the top despite her lack of pedigree by sheer determination and god given talent. She proved to Drake she can make the ballet season a success. Along the way he falls hard for this little ballerina who has no parents, no history and someone threatening her life. As a Duke society wouldn't tolerate him marrying a common dancer with no noble blood and she will not be anyone's mistress. Oh the chemistry and willpower these two exude. I loved the mystery of who's threatening her, who's her parents and if they ever find a way to be together! Thank you Amy for this story and the opportunity to review it for you. It's your best yet.

Wonderful! The plot, characters, history and mystery are smoothly interwoven to provide an adventurous and romantic story. The introduction of a new ballerina (Britannia) to society, the scandal of a Duke's (Drake) interest in the ballerina and the mystery of her origins captured my imagination. The secondary characters were all interesting as well and I expect we will see many of them again in this series, Devilish Dukes.

Such a delightful story with rounded characters all true to the era. The notion that someone was better than another simply because of an accident of birth, is explored both in a positive way and in highlighting the arrogance, bad behaviour and even cruelty of many of the aristocracy, from the crown to those who were not so high on the social ladder, but whose attitude was both contemptuous and disdainful. The assumption that a girl was of loose morals simply because she danced or acted, was common and so unfair, and the side story of little Johnny's life is tragic. Having a transported young convict in my own family, I related to this little boy, stealing simply to stay alive. I felt for Britannia's mother who, through no fault of her own, found herself in an untenable position which could have been so different if her father or even her husband had acted in a more compassionate manner. I would have liked to see Giles get his comeuppance, as well as Drake confronting the awful duke, who controlled the entire tragedy. I would recommend this book to friends.

Here are two people who immediately you take to heart their plights – Duke of Ravenscar and Britannia LeClair.

Duke of Ravenscar has put all on the line for a wager. (obviously dukes have way too much money and little brains – hey, just saying!) Drake has wagered it all. If his venture of opening a new theater, bearing his family name, The Chadwick Theatre, appointed with the most elegant of surroundings and cost him more than he could afford, fails, the man is doomed. But it was a done deal. He chose the most prestigious and sought after ballerina in France, one Mademoiselle Taglioni. He had it in his pocket!

But when the ballerina wasn’t among those who were shepherded to his theatre, and found her understudy sent in her stead, he was on the verge of an apoplexy.

Britannia, the understudy, had been sick for the last two days as the ship crossed the Channel. Weak and exhausted, she had to prove her worth, no less in her bedraggled clothing. Her future as a ballerina was at stake. If the duke sent them back to France, she would no longer be welcome on stage.

I was caught up with the emotion swirling around these two characters. They both had so much to lose. To make the story even more intriguing, Britannia didn’t know who her parents were, a fondling with a few clues to her identity. The author adds another layer of worry for Britannia. She had been very nearly injured in several ‘accidents’.

As all this unfolds, so does the duke’s heart. He justifies all his actions when it comes to Britannia. For all his blustering anger at the beginning of the story, he becomes a besotted doting man by the end.

I appreciated Jarecki’s research about ballerinas of that time. Although our heroine is fictitious, Mademoiselle Taglioni was very real. Toe dancing was just coming into vogue and shorter costumes kept inching up, which very nearly does in the English noblewoman and has the gentlemen wishing they could see more!

Unfortunately, a passionate dancer like Britannia, also gained a certain poor reputation whether deserved or not.

Jarecki always writes a richly entertaining tale, layered with intrigue, broken hearts and happy ever afters. This one is no different.

London 1833 As I turned the last page of this wonderful story, I could only smile and be glad I read the entire book through this afternoon. Amy Jarecki has ventured into Georgian England, while expertly combining her historical knowledge with romance and intrigue to bring two unexpected people together.
Drake, Duke of Ravenscar had invested a fortune in a London theater and intended to bring a famous ballerina and her troupe for the opening weeks. But instead he gets her understudy who has yet to prove herself. He is so angry and knows that the theater will fail without the lead ballerina.
Britannia LeClair takes the role and wants only to give her best and make her debut. A foundling, she is determined to find her birth parents who had given her up long ago. She only had a couple of clues but has puts out inquiries when she gets to London.
When they lock eyes on each other, there is a definite spark and as Drake sees her dance, he is truly mesmerized. But danger lurks as Britannia receives threats and accidents that were not really accidental.
Step back in time and lose yourself in a story that will keep you turning the pages as fast as you can. I truly cannot wait for more in this series and you will love it too!!

A wonderful and unique story. A young unknown ballerina is replacing a famous dancer. A man who has devoted a lot of money to this endeavor is worried about the Outcome. However the outcome turns out to be a wonderful romance with a truly good ending. The author has outdone herself again

I couldn't tell you why this feels like an updated Jude Deveraux but with more intrigue. I appreciate the telling of a ballerina as the romantic heroine because that is something I have never come across before in all my years of reading historical fiction. I also never realized how patronization worked in the regency era. Great little story.

I recommend to those that gave up dance class but wanted to prance around in Clara's nightdress from the Nutcracker.

The Duke of Ravenscar (Drake) has put everything into his new venture the Chadwick Theater. When the Duke finds out the ballerina is the understudy and not the famous ballerina he was supposed to have perform, he will lose his fortune. When the Duke sees Britannia dance he is spell bound. Britannia being a foundling is determined to make her debut a success as this is finally her chance to prove herself and maybe find out some information about her birth. Neither can keep their eyes off each other but both know that they have to as they are from very different classes. Mysterious things keep happening to Britannia and Drake is there to help. I have read many of Amy Jarecki’s books, and this is her first venture into Regency/Georgian period. I have loved her other books and looked forward to reading this one. What a wonderful story! I fell in love with the characters and the storyline. There is everything in this book, romance, mystery, intrigue! Would I recommend this, absolutely! This was a great Cinderella story! Bravo!

I absolutely loved this story. The time period, the charachters , everything about it. The rule breaking Duke, the lower class performer made for engaging reading.

Drake has staked everything on his ballet house and this opening performance. Touting the premiere balerin from France, he is shocked and maddened to find out her understudy has been sent. But one viewing of her dancing is all it takes to heighten his curiosity. And their first kiss only magnifies she is like no other. Instant passion, instant fire only makes it harder to stay away.

Bria has to make this show perfect. She knows she's good but can she carry the show? After meeting Ravenscar and his imposing height, she is a bundle of nerves. But attracted as she's never been before. But she has other reasons for being in England also. To find out who her mother ad father are. With only a portrait to go on she must be careful.

As Drake becomes closer and closer to Bria the more smitten he becomes by her. She refuses to be his mistress. Has made it clear she will never be any mans mistress but he wants more. But his station keeps his mother on his case to find a proper and suitable wife. But with Bria there can be no other. She is the one for him. Now to as her see it too.

As Bria's infatuation grows to a strong love, the love of her performing keeps the house full night after night. But with her inquiries into her birth secret messages, threats really a re becoming a real fear. Is she onto something.

As things are drawing to a close and it is nearing time for her to leave, the dangers reach epic proportions and her life my be ruined. Can anyone save her? Will Drake come fr her? Can she really b who sent finds out she is?? The mystery reveals itself and it was stunning to see where Bria really came from. Loved this story!!

The Duke of Ravenscar is preparing to open his new theater confident it will be a success since he has hired the most renowned ballerina in all of Paris to perform in London. His confidence soon takes a dive when he finds that the ship arrived without said ballerina, but with her understudy. He fears his theater and all he has invested in is doomed. Until he sees her dance! And then getting to know Brittiana Le Clare consumes his every thought but he has to pocket those emotions. Dukes do not marry commoners, they're expected to marry nobles with a proper lineage to produce his heir.

Brittania arrives in London excited to dance the lead and make a name for herself. After losing her parents she realized she was a foundling and suspects her true mother was from England. She would dance her best on stage while investigating her past but the Duke who owns the theater steals her attention in the most resounding way. No matter her feelings for him, they could never be together due to their station in life. She would enjoy his company and return to Paris where she belonged.

The story unfolds from here and I won't go any further but know I consider this a "must read". I love reading medieval, Regency, Victorian era books and found that this one is far different from anything I've read. How refreshing to have a story like none other you've read. I found this story captivating, exciting, mysterious, and holds your attention through every page you turn. There are plenty of surprises along the way so once you think you have the story figured out, a twist erupts.

I was gifted with an ARC of this book and it's my decision to post a review. Enchanting read and I highly recommend it!

The Duke of Ravenscar had intended on having the most acclaimed ballerina in the civilized world to open his theater however sometimes things don't always go as one would want them to. When the ship arrives it has only an understudy and Drake is convinced the fortune he has invested in his theater will be forfeit. That is until he sees the understudy dance.

Britannia LeClair arrives in London more then excited to be performing the lead in La Sylphide. As a foundling she has had to work harder than anyone in the corps. At last as her debut in London proves her worth despite her lowly birth. Then she meets the smoldering gaze of the Duke of Ravenscar.

Britianna is determined not to become anyone's mistress she keeps the Duke at arms length while she trys to uncover the mystery of her parentage. She only has a miniature painting and a monogrammed hankercheif to make her inquiries by and they lead to a series of escalating accidents and threats to her life.

When Drake realizes Britannia is in danger, he will do anything possible to protect her. That is if Britannia will let him. As they traverse through the mire of skulduggery and hidden shame, events will unravel and endanger them both. Will the truth prove worth uncovering, or will it sever the deep love that has come to bond their very souls and bring them ever closer.

This is Amy Jarecki's first time writing Georgin History and it was incredible. I was hooked from the minute I picked up the book to the very end an end. An end that I was sad to see. Ms Jarecki's characters were fresh and I adored most of them. As I read the words it was like watching a motion picture of the book. I could actually see the Dukes beautifully bright blue eyes like they were in front of me and I could see Britianna doing ballet up on stage. This was a novel that had so many unexpected twists and turns that I was constantly amazed. I would highly recommend this book to historical romance fans everywhere.

VISIONS OF DANCING LADIES...

This book is fascinating. It has all the appropriate people, but is also an intense study of the glorious athleticism that is ballet. The author managed to convey not only the beauty of the dance, but also the physical cost of giving an illusion of effortless beauty. Not to mention, a glimpse of the conflicts of personalities that can happen when life is cut throat competition.
I loved this book. Like ballet, it appears effortless as it drifts beautifully from one scene to the next, but I suspect some of these scenes may have been difficult to craft. There are, of course, some foregone occuurrences. Yes,they are well-telegraphed. That's not where the tension in this book lies. It is a subtle book, more like autumn leaves than full-blown summer flowers, more like a lacewing than a dragonfly, or a minnow than a goldfish. There seem to be some underlying statements about people and good, and evil, and familial love.
I heartily recommend making Any Jarecki into one of your auto-click authors.

Drake Chadwick, the Duke of Ravenscar, must make his theatre – Chadwicks – a success, otherwise he will be in big trouble. When he learns that the star ballerina he hired is not coming to London, he is livid. However upon seeing the understudy dance, he is enchanted. Britannia – Bria – LeClair immediately dazzles everyone with her otherworldly talent, even if a tad scandalous. Drake is immediately smitten, but Bria will be no one’s mistress even though most dancers have no qualms about becoming rich men’s paramours. Bria also needs to take care of something of a personal nature, which would preclude any entanglement with a duke.

What a joy to have a historical romance set against a background of ballet, particularly from an author who knows her topic intimately. The ballet sequences are breathtaking, described with precision while conveying an ethereal feeling of lightness and grace. The ballet world comes off as entirely genuine, and in addition to the author’s experience, her meticulous research gives the story much authenticity. The supporting cast of characters are well-drawn and frame the principals beautifully, and some of them absolutely wonderful. I liked that, in spite of his lust, Drake does not push Bria into anything, however in a way I could sense that he was patient, and was merely biding his time until Bria came to him willingly. I must admit that I never really warmed up to Drake: he is very dukish, judgemental, arrogant, and dare I say a snob; every inch the aristocrat. In a way, my problem stems from a fact that I never thought I would say, but Drake was maybe too realistically portrayed, until he did an about-turn that felt completely out of character, combined with other turns of events. I believed he was enamoured with Bria, but he would never have made their relationship official given his overall attitude; it goes against everything he is; she would have been relegated to the role of mistress, and nothing more.

Amy Jarecki’s writing is positively amazing: flowing, smooth, refined; it is grandiose. The dialogues are also excellent, particularly between Drake and his mother, who is quite an extraordinary character as well. Towards the end, Ms. Jarecki also graces us with her trademark action sequences. THE DUKE’S FALLEN ANGEL is a breath of fresh air when it comes to historical romance because of its unusual and most welcome setting. I dare hope Pauline’s story is next!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I give 3 ½ stars

Stunning , expressive, and beautiful.
That’s the best description I can give for this book .
It’s a story to lose yourself in , to imagine you are the one dancing , the detail and descriptions are inspiring and enfold you into the book , that’s just the first few chapters, after that your hooked for the next few hours , and really don’t want to escape.
As the tale unfolds Meeting the Duke, watching as his relationship with Britannia unfolds , accompanying them through the season and their adventures, I found it hard to put this book down , and realised I was reading what was definitely going to be one of my favourite books this year , I cannot rate this highly enough.
A wonderful and spellbinding story , that’s powerful in its telling , Amy Jarecki has always been a go to author for me , this book just enforces my belief that she is one of the best authors today .

I wasn’t sure about this to begin with. Drake, the duke, was nuts about Britannia from the very beginning yet every time he kissed her he apologized, and was constantly thinking how he couldn’t have her because she was below his station. I got tired of that in a hurry. Anyway, after finding out who her parents were she was no longer beneath his station.

Soon, her life was in danger and it looked like someone was trying to kill her. Then it got interesting. I was afraid it was going to be 337 pages of a love story. And that would have to too much.

There was explicit sex in this but no swearing.

As to the narration: first time listening to Raphael Corkhill and he did a good job.

Sweet steadily paced romance with mild steam. The plot twists are obvious, the romance is mushy and instant but the MCs are very likable. The heroine has a couple TSTL moments and the hero is very dashing but succumbs to using overly saccharine language in regards to the leading lady and their love. The ballet part seems to be well researched, so I enjoyed reading about the inner workings of the theater and the relationships between the dancers. The last part of the book where most of the actions happened could have been great but the author chose convenience and easy ways out of the problems to give the MCs their HEA. Because of that my enjoyment deemed a bit. Overall, this was an easy if a tad predictable read.

I liked this book

I liked the premise of this story. The use of dance and the theater was interesting and I enjoyed the idea of the Duke starting a theatre on a wager. I liked how the hero and heroine met, fought their attraction and overcame all. Very entertaining.

I loved that this story did not follow the typical, historical romance 'formula'. It was a very unique tale that immediately drew me in. The characters were vivid and complex and made the story seem so realistic, that I often felt like I was actually there watching the story unfold.
