Wow. The Grand Duel was everything I hoped for and more, but now that it’s over, I can’t help but feel a bittersweet mix of emotions. Charlie’s story has been a long time coming, and knowing this is the last book in The Grand Men series just makes everything feel so much more emotional. I’ve been invested in this world for so long, and saying goodbye to these characters is honestly harder than I expected. Charlie has been a favorite of mine since the very first book, so I’ve been eagerly awaiting his story. I didn’t think anyone could be good enough for him after everything he’s done for the people he loves. But then Lissie came into the picture, and their chemistry was everything. It was everything I wanted and more.
Charlie and Lissie’s dynamic? Absolute fire. The tension between them is so intense, it practically leaps off the page. Their relationship has this slow-burn intensity that kept me hooked from start to finish. And let’s be real—there were moments when I wanted to throw the book (or maybe just shake Charlie), but that’s what made his journey so compelling. Learning more about his darker side and understanding what shaped him made me connect with him on a whole new level. Lissie—fierce, determined, and unapologetically strong—was exactly what he needed but didn’t know how to ask for. Together, they created this intense, passionate energy that was impossible to turn away from.
The world that J.C. Hawke has created is nothing short of incredible, filled with the found-family dynamics that have made this series such a standout. From the very first book, I’ve loved watching these characters evolve, and now, with Charlie and Lissie’s story, it feels like a beautiful conclusion. The way they both struggled, grew, and fought for each other made their love story unforgettable.
It’s hard to let go of this world and these characters, but The Grand Duel is the perfect end to a series I’ve grown so attached to. I recommend diving into the series from the beginning—it’s a rollercoaster of emotions you don’t want to miss. From the very first book, I’ve loved watching these characters evolve, and now, with Charlie and Lissie’s story, it feels like a beautiful conclusion.
Thank you, J.C. Hawke, for giving us such a special series. I know I’ll miss the whole family of characters we’ve come to love. Truly, this is one of the best found-family series I’ve ever read, and I will cherish it for a long time.
