Kelsey Brunel knows exactly what the future holds: she’ll one day inherit the Arizona dude ranch that has been in her family for three generations. She tells herself that the business and her good friends are all she’ll ever want or need. Long-term relationships aren’t in the picture, which after witnessing the devastation of her parents’ failed marriage, is just fine with her.
Elizabeth Sutton has grown up proving to her family that she’s as capable and accomplished as they demand her to be, even if that means working for the family business. Her latest assignment, to turn a backwater ranch in Arizona into another link in their international chain of wellness centers, feels like a demotion and she can’t wait to get it done and escape back to civilization.
Two women from different worlds have nothing in common and every reason to wish they’d never met—except for the attraction neither can deny.
Radclyffe has written over forty-five romance and romantic intrigue novels, dozens of short stories, and, writing as L.L. Raand, has authored a paranormal romance series, The Midnight Hunters. She has also edited Best Lesbian Romance 2009 through 2015 as well as multiple other anthologies. She is an eight-time Lambda Literary Award finalist in romance, mystery, and erotica—winning in both romance and erotica. A member of the Saints and Sinners Literary Hall of Fame, she is also an RWA Prism, Lories, Beanpot, Aspen Gold, and Laurel Wreath winner in multiple mainstream romance categories. In 2014, she received the Dr. James Duggins Outstanding Mid-Career Novelist award from the Lambda Literary Foundation. In 2004, she founded Bold Strokes Books, an independent LGBTQ publishing company, and in 2013, she founded the Flax Mill Creek Writers Retreat offering writing workshops to authors in all stages of their careers.
She states, “I began reading lesbian fiction at the age of twelve when I found a copy of Ann Bannon’s Beebo Brinker. That book and others like it convinced me that I was not alone, that there were other women who felt like I did. Our literature provides support and validation and very often, a lifeline, for members of our community throughout the world. I am proud and honored to be able to publish the many fine authors at Bold Strokes Books and to contribute in some small way to the words that celebrate the LGBTQ experience.”
Radclyffe lives with her partner, Lee, in New York state.
I must say - I’m stunned by the positive reviews of this book and that it’s a finalist for a GCLS Goldie. The editing was lacking and the sex scenes were painful. It seems all Rad can write anymore in sex scenes is how much her characters “need to come.” It happened so often in this book I lost count. Rather than be titillated, I was turned off. That’s why I stopped reading her books and I see the practice continues. Ugh.
The story was just okay and then ended abruptly.
I rarely write a bad review of a book, but wow. I just can’t recommend this one.
This is the story of two women who have similar issues with their immediate family members and that has somehow brought them together. Although both are much more complex than just that. Elizabeth Sutton is the daughter of a luxury resort businessman, her father has always thought less of her, although lately and due to a problem with the sister of the company's financial director, she seems to have fallen further out of favor with her father. She has dyslexia that has conditioned her life and her family has never helped her cope with it, only her best friend and coworker Olivia is the one she has been able to rely on from school until now.
Kelsey Brunel is, in turn, the daughter of the owner of Red Sky Ranch, a ranch dedicated to offering country life, with cabins, horseback riding, etc. Kelsey's father does not lead a very orderly life, Kelsey's mother abandoned them when she was a child and now her father tells her overnight that he has sold the ranch and Kelsey's life turns upside down.
Elizabeth's banishment for being caught with the director's sister forces her to take charge of the ranch, since Sutton has acquired it and plans to renovate it into a high-end establishment. And the first night that Elizabeth spends in the area, she goes to a bar in town and hooks up with Kelsey, in a fiery and too fast encounter, from which she can't escape even faster. But to the surprise of both, the next day they discover who each of them are and the tension, of all kinds, begins.
The story has fire, of course, the two women are passionate although they fight to maintain their professional relationship or even to despise each other initially, more so on Elizabeth's part, to be honest. But by dint of having to deal with each other professionally, other aspects unite them, mainly the affection that the project awakens in Elizabeth along with the love that Kelsey has always had for the ranch.
So two passionate women, who go from fire to embers, interesting secondary characters, the suspicion that there will be continuity with the ranch and we will hear about the two of them again later, it has really been a hot and interesting read for me.
Publisher Bold Strokes Books was kind enough to provide me with an advanced reading copy via Netgalley for an honest review
Working for your father is never easy, especially when you hope to take over the family business and your dad has other ideas. Kelsey Brunel expects her father to hand over the multigenerational ranch to her when he retires. She has been running the ranch for years waiting for her time.
Elizabeth Sutton is always striving for acceptance from her father. Working with him has never been easy but sending her out to reimagine a dude ranch into an upscale spa and health center is more a punishment than approval.
I have found in the past that novels that have cowriters are either a hit or a big miss for me. I definitely did not have to worry about Fire in the Sky. Cannon and Radclyffe have always shared similar styles and their blending produces an engaging and enjoyable read. Characters are fully developed with the mains being intriguing women. The story held my attention until the very end giving me the perfect happy ever after.
I received an advance review copy from Bold Strokes Books through NetGalley. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
4⭐️ Kelsey Brunel is a real cowgirl. She lives and works on her father's dude ranch, she is sure, one day this place will be hers. It is her home and she never wants to leave. She loves the ranch life, plus the occasional night out with a woman, no strings attached, is all she needs to be happy. But sometimes things turn out differently than you think and the enemy comes straight from the family.
Elizabeth Sutton works for her father, who has built up a real estate empire. For years, she has been striving for his recognition through her achievements, because only success counts in his eyes. She takes on projects and transforms the properties into profit-oriented, luxurious wellness resorts. When the latest project takes her to the no man's land of Arizona, it feels somehow strange. This project doesn't fit into the portfolio. What's going on here?
This is Radclyffe and Julie Cannon's first collaboration and I hope it's not the last. The story has a perfect pace and takes you in from the very first moment. The story is told alternately from Kelsey and Elizabeth's point of view. The attraction between Elizabeth and Kelsey is immediate, and the chemistry is hot like hell. After a super hot and unforgettable encounter, neither knows who the other is, the surprise is all the greater when they unexpectedly meet again.
The burning sensation on the first night is just as palpable as Kelsey's rejection afterward, as she has to deal with Elizabeth unexpectedly. Both have to learn how to deal with major disappointments from loved ones and decide how to react. The emotions are real and palpable and I really wanted the two of them to find a way to take action and turn the situation into a success for them together.
An easy and entertaining story. Looking forward to reading their next work. Thanks to Bold Strokes Books and NetGalley for receiving an ARC for an honest review.
This is a story about Kelsey Brunel whose family owns a very nice dude ranch in remote Arizona. And Elizabeth Sutton, daughter of a real estate mogul, whose business is developing wellness resorts. The Sutton organization buys out the Brunel ranch, behind Kelsey’s back and she’s very upset over it.
They meet by accident at the start of the book and have a hot evening together. Neither gives their true name so when they meet the next day at the dude ranch, both are shocked and don’t know how to handle the surprise.
I liked this book because of reading both MCs point of view in alternating chapters. Radcliffe and Cannon did a great job with the characters personalities and emotions and the growing relationship. The Arizona ranch scenes were great. I’m looking forward to the next book in this series. And I want to read a book by Julie Cannon, as she is a new author for me.
ARC received from Net Galley and BSB for an honest and voluntary review.
3.5⭐️ The chemistry is definitely there from scene one, as their first meeting was steamy and well-written. The reader can really feel their inevitable attraction, strong as a magnet. I liked the character building and their backgrounds. I consider it a slow burn, as Radclyffe and Cannon played with our feelings for a long time...a bit too long? The interactions between Elizabeth and Kelsey felt a bit redundant to me, with one lusting after the other. I wished the relationship had grown at a steady pace, rather than going from zero to forever in a short time. Another point: I don't know if it comes from the narration, but the transitions between scenes or points of view were sometimes unclear. Still, the performance was good. There is a bit of suspense regarding the ranch that helps keep the reader's attention. Overall, an enjoyable read.
Hot romance with two hot women. The opening chapter sets the pace between these two hotties. The remainder is fun and interesting. But family let's both women down and upsets them badly. But they survive and we get a happy ending. The ending I guessed but wasn't sure how they were going to pull it off. That little bit was a surprise. My real question is, why did Radclyffe and Cannon decide to write a book together and how does that even work? Does one write the first half and the other writes the last half? Or maybe one writes story line, the other the sex scenes? It is a mystery. I was given this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This had potential but both main characters were extremely hormonal (sexually), and sadly, no opportunity for Rad to shine with medical content. Do not think narrator did the book any favors either.
Radclyffe and Julie Cannon are great authors individually, so it’s obvious that together they would create a novel their fans would enjoy. They did that with their latest collaboration, Fire in the Sky.
The story begins on the angsty side when Kelsey Brunel finds out her family’s dude ranch in Arizona has been sold out from under her by her father, Red Brunel. Red then takes off just as Elizabeth Sutton and her assistant Olivia arrive to take control of the ranch for The Sutton Corporation. Elizabeth is tasked with turning the property into a wellness center. In spite of having nothing in common (except a hidden mutual attraction), Elizabeth and Kelsey must work together to get the renovations to the ranch done on a tight schedule. That is hard to do when it becomes apparent someone is trying to slow them down.
The beautiful descriptions of the ranch and this area of Arizona really caught my interest. Kelsey and Elizabeth and their stories also drew me into the narrative. They are both strong characters with back stories that affect who they are and how they act in this tale.
Olivia is a compelling secondary character that I would have enjoyed seeing more of. I hope we’ll see more of her in the future. I liked the slight enemies-to-lover’s beginning even though the attraction between Kelsey and Elizabeth took care of that pretty quickly.
There is one part of this book that disappointed me, and that is the ending. It is rushed. In fact, it is so rushed it felt to me like it didn’t have an ending. It really needed one more chapter or at least an epilogue. I did enjoy this novel though I would love to see more of the story. Perhaps the authors might decide to write a short story to resolve a few things that were left hanging. I do hope so.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bold Strokes Books for allowing me the chance to read and review this book.
Having never read a collaboration between these two authors before I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but fortunately I was pleasantly surprised. On the surface this seems like your typical one night stand, enemy to lovers trope but upon reading I found so much more.
Where the authors really shine in this book is the chemistry and passion between the two leads, Elizabeth and Kelsey. You can literally feel the tension and attraction simmering between them from the get go, and it very much drives the story. Another thing very well done is the imagery of the ranch and setting in general. The description of the surroundings was detailed and put me right there on a gorgeous Arizona ranch with the characters.
That being said, there were a few things that I felt could be improved as well. Like some other reviews mention, the ending felt and bit rushed and in general I felt the book was a little too short and would have benefited from taking a bit more time to flesh out the main and secondary characters backstories. This is a somewhat minor complaint, however, as I did very much enjoy this book and I recommend it for anyone looking for a quick, passionate read by two well established authors in a beautiful ranch setting.
I was provided an ARC of this ebook by Netgalley and all opinions are my own.
When I heard Radclyffe & Julie Cannon were joining up - 2 of my favourite authors - I was really excited. The first chapters of the book put the ‘baddies’ front and centre, unusual and off putting, but once the tale settled down I really enjoyed it. Highly recommended.
Fire in the Sky is a compelling narrative that weaves together the lives of two women, Kelsey Brunel and Elizabeth Sutton, each grappling with their own familial challenges. Kelsey, who has long anticipated taking over the reins of the family-owned Red Sky Ranch, is blindsided when her father decides to sell. Elizabeth, on the other hand, is struggling for her father's approval in the corporate world, only to be seemingly punished by being sent to transform the newly acquired ranch into an upscale spa and health resort.
I really liked the collaboration between Cannon and Radclyffe in crafting this story and I think their two similar writing styles worked well in creating a rich and engaging story. The characters are well-drawn, with Kelsey and Elizabeth emerging as complex, intriguing protagonists whose initial fiery encounter sets the stage for a tumultuous yet passionate slow-burn romance. The dynamic between the two, fraught with professional tension and personal attraction, drives the narrative forward in a way that is both believable and intensely engaging.
I really loved the setting of this story and could picture the Arizona backdrop. The secondary characters add depth to the story, and as this seems to be the first novel in a series, I'm hoping we'll see more of Riley and Olivia in future. I was surprised by the depth of the storyline in Fire in the Sky - it is more than just a romance; it's a story about overcoming obstacles and personal growth.
A great novel and I definitely recommend a read if you like your romance with a bit of substance.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Bold Strokes Books for a copy of this novel. ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.
Kelsey Brunel loves the land that has been in her family for generations. She manages the modestly successful dude ranch and assumes it will always be her life. Unexpectedly her father announces he has sold the property to a large company who runs wellness centers. Elizabeth Sutton is driven and ambitious. She works for her father's business and he sends to Arizona to get the newly acquired property up and running. It is just another in a long line of tests from him.
This is a story of two strong women, from different walks of life, that are dealing with situations instigated by their fathers. There are so many things to love. The small town with western landscapes is easy to imagine. The characters are richly crafted with backgrounds that have shaped who they are. The first time they meet it is for an anonymous evening. Once working together, there is yearning and boundaries before giving way to passion. I cared for Liz and Kelsey and waited patiently to see their lives turn into a HEA.
I’ve read both these authors before and this is the first time Radclyffe has collaborated in storytelling. There are a few abrupt transitions at the ends of chapters where I wondered if I missed a page or two. I expected a scene to continue only to find a jump in time a few days, but otherwise the writing flows seamlessly. I was fully engaged in the story and it is easy to recommend to others. I like that it plays out over several months so it doesn’t feel rushed. Because the secondary title refers to it as A Red Sky Ranch Romance, I am hopeful there will be more books coming from this setting. Fingers crossed that Liz’s assistant Olivia gets her own romance. I will be waiting for it or anything new from the authors individually. (4.5 Stars)
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this exciting new book
kelsey brunel is about to have the rug pulled from under herself by non other than her father
elizabeth sutton is about to be sent to the end of the earth to try and get a backwater farm up and running in their family business, its a punishment metered out by her father for the faux par she committed
kelsy and elizabeth are about to meet but first they both need to let off some steam
what both of them dont realise until they do meet at the backwater farm...is that their night of hot steamy sex the night before was with each other
have to say i thoroughly enjoyed this one, and who doesnt with cowboys and business people coming together but it was the characters that made this book for me kelsey and elizabeth both from families that are pole apart but they each had something in common.... they each tried to get their parents approval but alas it wasnt forth coming and the heartbreak was very real, you could feel their emotions on the page
cant wait to read more from both these authors again
City slicker meets the cowgirl Fire in the Sky is the first collaboration by two accomplished authors and it was a entertaining read. The romance is character driven. Both Kelsey, who expected to earn the ranch from her father, and Elizabeth, who has to turn said ranch (which her father bought from Kelsey‘s father) into a luxury resort and prove herself - again. I loved to see who both main characters struggle with their fathers and find their own terms. It was fun to see how the authors played the different tropes (fling-to-forever, city slicker vs. cowgirl, enemies to lovers, strong women in a men‘s world, ice queen) and pulled it off to create an excellent read. I found the end a bit rushed though. There is hope for a sequel because Olivia - what about Olivia? She vanished in the end and richly deserves her own story, right?
I received an ARC via netgalley. The review is left voluntarily.
I received an ARC copy of this book from the Publisher via Netgalley and voluntarily leaving my review.
Kesley is blindsided when her father sale the Red Sky ranch that been in her family for years she thought she would’ve inherit. Kelsey is beside herself when she learns more of what been going on she decides to stay on to make she whomever brought the ranch will do right by it and the employees. Elizabeth has been trying to prove herself to her father when he spring on her that he bought a ranch and want her to oversee it. Kelsey and Elizabeth meets to blow off steam and windup having one night stand not knowing that they going to be working together. They both are shock when they see each other but decides to stay professional but that easier said and done when their attraction for each other is stronger then they realize. This was a good read Kelsey and Elizabeth may have grew up differently but they had more in common then they know.
I gave Fire In The Sky by Radclyffe & Julie Cannon a solid four stars. This was my first cowgirl book 😍, and I absolutely loved the lesbian representation—it was so refreshing to see that in a “cowboy” book! The story centers around two strong, independent women navigating life, love, and the challenges of ranch life. One is a resilient ranch owner struggling to save her family’s legacy, and the other is a newcomer looking to prove to her father that she has what it takes to be a successful business woman, with her own emotional baggage. Their connection grows amidst personal struggles and the rugged beauty of the West.
The storyline was compelling and had just the right amount of drama, romance, and spice 🌶️. The characters were likeable and well-developed, but while I enjoyed the book overall, it didn’t hit me deeply in the feels or have moments that made me laugh or cry. That said, it was still a refreshing and enjoyable read, and I loved the representation in a genre where it’s not often seen. Definitely worth a read if you’re looking for something unique in the cowboy/cowgirl romance genre!
I couldn't believe my eyes when I spotted the cover of this book. Two of my favorite sapphic writers joined forces to come up with a passionate tale as boundless as the land being fought over. The main characters traverse inner and external turmoil to rise above the ashes and obtain a HEA they so honestly deserved. None of that would have been believable if not for the talented words weaved together by the authors. Thoroughly enjoyed.
Thank you to Bold Strokes Books and NetGalley for providing an eARC for a honest review.
A city girl meets country girl, opposites attract, enemies to lovers romance to pave the way for what certainly looks to be another brilliant series written by Radclyffe. This time, she has teamed up with Julie Cannon, who is a new to me author, who I am keen to check out after reading this book.
Kelsey’s world is turned upside down when her father tells her that he has sold the family dude ranch and then leaves. A further kick in the guts comes with the arrival of Elizebeth. Elizebeth’s fathers company brought the ranch, and to add insult, Kelsey’s father promised Kelsey would stay on to oversee the construction taking place.
To make everything more complicated, both women shared an intimate hour or so together the night before, leaving it completely anonymous but extremely unforgettable. Working together is a slow process, and both Kelsey and Elizebeth fight their own demons while trying to navigate their own growing attraction.
Love is inevitable at Red Sky Ranch, and learning to lean on one another for support and comfort proves to Kelsey that building a life together with Elizebeth might be the one thing she had always been missing. The teaming up of Radclyffe and Julie Cannon is a brilliant combination of seasoned romance writers and fresh ideas.
The epic stories surrounding Red Sky Ranch, set on the gorgeous landscapes of Arizona, are sure to keep coming.
I really really wanted to like this more. And there were parts of it I really loved- I'll hit on those first.
The setting was gorgeous. I'm from Arizona and am familiar with Wickenburg, as well as have even visited some dude ranches in the area before. It's gorgeous in real life and was described so well in this book. I loved it and I could picture the scenes so easily.
I also loved the characters and their relationship. Kelsey and Elizabeth were so great together- I loved their dynamic, how they bounced off each other at first to accepting each other to falling. I was all about it. I also loved them as individuals and felt for both of them in what they were feeling though the book.
With all that said, there were some things in the book that also annoyed me a fair amount. The first is time jumps, I hate large time jumps in books. They really throw off my reading and just leaves me to wonder what is happening to the characters in the process. There were three different times in the book that it jumps ahead 2-3 weeks, and many times skips a few days. I also found the conclusion pretty unsatisfactory and rushed. As I said I liked the relationship in the book a good amount and I believed the characters loved each other by then, but when it came to the big reveal on Elizabeth's plans and catching the ruse, it all just fell flat and happened in like one page. And a small note as well, as a resident of the desert area of Arizona (granted- I'm in Phoenix not Wickenburg) I'm pretty uncomfortable with a new golf course being built. I didn't really like that part of the book. It's small though and no one that isn't from Arizona will probably care.
I think if this book had 30-40 more pages to minimize time jumps and give the characters more time to interact and to give more buildup and resolution to the sabotage plotline I would totally bet this would be a five star book for me, but as it is, it's 3.5/5
Radclyffe and Julie Cannon are great authors individually, so it’s obvious that together they would create a novel their fans would enjoy. Elizabeth Sutton has spent all her life trying to get her father to love and respect her. When he tells her that he’s sending her to Arizona to convert a dude ranch into one of the family’s wellness centers, even though she’s been creating wellness centers all over the world. she understands that it is both an insult and a punishment. When she and her bestie and executive assistant, Olivia, arrive in Phoenix, Elizathe goes to a local lesbian bar to find a hook-up. What she finds is a woman who rocks her world. When she and Olivia arrive at the dude ranch, she has to deal with the surprise that her hot hookup of the night before is the ranch’s manager, Kelsey.
The authors have created a slow-build romance between two very different women. Elizabeth is a wealthy businesswoman who isn’t interested in relationships while Kelsey is devoted to the family ranch and the people who work there and doesn’t have time for relationships. The storyline moves along at a sprightly pace while telling both women’s story as well as moving the relationship forward.
This book, like the second book in the duology, is well written with interesting characters who readers will want to know more about.
This is a seamlessly written novel where there is no way you can tell where one author’s contribution ends and the other author’s contribution begins. There are no saggy parts because the authors keep the angst from slowing down the flow of the story. This is one of those rare books where you call in sick so you can read the last half of the book.
If you love one or both of these authors, you're going to love this book. If you are new to Sapphic romance novels, this is a great book to start a life-long addition to LesFic.
This story delves into the lives of Kelsey and Elizabeth, both grappling with the haunting shadows of their troubled familial dynamics.. Kelsey's shattered dreams and the sense of betrayal when her father callously abandons her reverberate through the narrative, immersing readers in the depths of her emotional turmoil.
The comparison of Kelsey's unwavering commitment to her family's Arizona dude ranch and Elizabeth's struggle to prove her worth to her Father sets the stage for a narrative rich in contrasts. The authors weave together these seemingly disparate worlds, crafting a nuanced exploration of identity, ambition, and the pursuit of one's path amid familial expectations.
As Kelsey and Elizabeth, seemingly from different universes, collide, the tension and chemistry between them become palpable. The slow-burning attraction, set against the backdrop of conflicting desires and divergent life trajectories, adds layers of complexity to their evolving relationship.
The novel's denouement is a masterstroke, providing a deeply satisfying resolution to the characters' arcs. The love and support they find in each other offer a poignant commentary on the transformative power of genuine connection. The concept of a chosen family takes center stage, redefining the conventional notions of belonging and support. This literary work transcends the romance genre, delving into the intricate layers of human emotion, resilience, and the profound impact of found families. With well-crafted characters and a narrative that seamlessly blends heartbreak and hope, the novel leaves a lasting impression, inviting readers to reflect on the enduring strength of the human spirit.
I wasn't sure what to expect with this collaboration between Radclyffe and Cannon. I've read almost all of Radclyffe's books, but haven't had the pleasure of reading any of Cannon's. That will need to be rectified soon if this book is anything to judge by.
Kelsey Brunel loves Red Sky Ranch and is shocked and dismayed when her father sells it without a backward glance to some big company she'd never heard of. She's angry and hurt and when Elizabeth shows up, it's not at all what she expected.
Elizabeth Sutton has worked for the family empire for years trying to prove herself to her father, but always fails, no matter how hard she tried. When she's sent to turn their new acquisition into their latest wellness spa, it doesn't go like she though it would.
Kelsey and Elizabeth are alike in some ways and very different in others. The writing was superb and you could feel each of them and the battles they both faced. It was a great book with amazing detail that I almost fell like I was on the ranch. The chemistry exploded off the page and you want them to get together, but this is definitely a slow burn. Or more like a slow sizzle until it all finally comes to a head.
The only thing I didn't really like was the ending felt very abrupt and some of the conflicts seemed to get resolved very quickly when it seemed like it should be more. Overall, I would recommend this book as it draws you in from the very beginning and doesn't let go even after you finish it.
I received and ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Fire in the Sky and in their hearts. It's always the same with the family. They can make your life hell! Kelsey and Elizabeth both have similar experiences, but in two very different ways. The first meeting is super hot and exciting. Ellie and Kelsey can't keep their eyes off each other, or their hands. As hot and exciting as this one meeting is, the morning after is extremely sobering! Kelsey was not privy to her father's plans. Completely unexpectedly, from one moment to the next she finds herself merely an employee and no longer the potential heir to her beloved Red Sky Ranch! What's more, the woman who drove her crazy the night before is the one who seemingly owns everything. Can it get any worse? It can! Because Kelsey hates and desires Ellie at the same time! What a mess! The same goes for Elizabeth. Who had no idea who she got involved with the night before, even if it was only for a hot, short period of time!
The story is very well written and can be read quickly. I definitely couldn't stop reading, because i wanted to know who, why and so on... However, the end came a bit abruptly, or at least that's how it seemed to me. A happy ending is definitely guaranteed!
Thanks to the Authors Radclyffe and Julie Cannon and Bold Stroke Books for the ARC!
I was gifted this book and started it because I was in the mood for a straightforward romance with a traditional structure. I was not disappointed! This had everything—strangers to lovers, women with family problems, enemies to lovers, and a plot that was just complicated enough to help the book be not just about the romance. Anyway, in this book, the rich, driven daughter of a property developer is tasked with the low-status job of turning around a floundering dude ranch in the middle of the Arizona desert. She arrives to find the seller vanished, leaving his own driven daughter there to make the transition for him. They of course fall in love, despite some pretty substantial misunderstandings, and end up rescuing the ranch. Exactly as you would imagine. I liked that they were both hot ladies, they were both successful in their own ways, and there were some really hot sex scenes. The background plot was great, and I loved the addition of Olivia, the best friend, and the other peripheral characters. I deducted a star for the portrayal of Kelsey’s parents, who were written as basic Disney villains. I could almost picture her mother with a Cruella DeVille long cigarette holder. But all in all, very solid read if you want a traditional lesbian romance.
