**As always check your triggers before diving into this book**

The dedication hit me so hard in the feels that I knew I would love this story. "This one is for all the hyper independent women, the oldest daughters, the mothers who do it all, the girls who have been through it but have managed to come out on the other side stronger. It's okay to let someone else help you carry the weight of the world that's on your shoulders." This was such a well written book, Ian and Nora are absolute couple goals and their journey truly had me captivated. Two broken souls torn apart, and put back together more beautiful than ever before.
Tropes: - Age Gap - Grumpy/Sunshine - No 3rd act break up - Workplace Romance - Forced Proximity - Possessive MMC
Idk how i stumbled across this author (tbh it was probably from one of my slutty fb groups lmao) but i’m soooo glad i did. I loved EVERYTHING about this book ahhh!!!! I started in the middle of the series so I can’t wait to start from the beginning 💅🏽 ugh Ian <3
I had a hunch it was him when he said “you should of been dead”. Loved Nora’s story and was extremely happy to read that Ian was just as attracted, if not more, to Nora as she was with him.

Rating: 4.5/5 I received an eARC for my honest opinion.
You will meet Nora Hayes who has fought and worked her way up to the role of executive assistant at Campbell-Hamilton Marketing Group. She is proud of where she is finally in life, but she does dream of more, a place of her own without her brothers, she wants to have a relationship and make her life more and now she thinks she can do it. While no one wants to work with the grumpy surly CEO Ian Campbell, Nora has no problem at all, other than she has this instant chemistry with him and now she can’t get him off her mind.
This was my first office romance with the main male character being the boss, and I loved it. I know that E.A. Buckingham-Young has never let me down with her books, so I was so excited to be given the chance to read this book. If you are looking for a book that has some really sexy/spicy scenes, grumpy vs sunshine, drunk dial your boss, age-gap, one bed and is a workplace romance you need to read this book. It is the third book of the series, but it can be read as a standalone. The plot was great, it had the right amount of drama, a little mystery thrown in there, and romance. The way that the author writes will have you turning the pages non-stop until you have finally hit the end and wishing that it wasn’t but loving the nicely done wrap up on the book. I loved that yes you will see a lot of spice, and it was done in a nice way if that makes sense, but you will see a lot more to the book, it’s also about healing from emotional trauma as well. You will see not only the MFC healing but also the MMC, you will get to be with them as they learn how to let people in, understanding their own limits, setting up boundaries and learning to open yourself up to someone else. The characters in this book really made it shine for me.
Nora, I loved getting to know her more and I felt as though I already knew her. I found myself relating to her in different ways, and I know that is because she was written so well, and the author made her feel real. I liked that you gotta see her growth throughout the book, and I know to some people that her growth may not be as grand as Ian, but it was in a different way that’s all. I do love that Nora went for what she wanted and had no issues with the fact that she was at first sleeping/dating her boss but understood that Ian wanted to keep to it to themselves at first. I found Nora to be a fresh breath of air in this romance book because I think a lot of the time when reading we find it hard to really connect with characters, but I don’t think it will be hard with Nora. With Ian I liked that he was protective of Nora right away. He was throwing off major “Touch her and die” vibes, he would also spoil her with what she needed even though she might not know it right away, but she would always come back and say thank you for that or this. I found his whole alpha-hole to be great with his character and, but I think it was the growth that he did in the book and the opening up to Nora more that really won my heart with him.
That dedication in this book really hit me hard in the best way possible. I highly recommend this book.
I want to thank E.A. Buckingham-Young for the opportunity to review this book.
*Grumpy/Sunshine *Age-gap Romance *He falls first *One bed *Pleasure Dom 🌶️🌶️Spicy🌶️🌶️ (Like 4-alarm fire 🔥 spicy🥵)
If you are like me and love an office romance, especially when the boss is all Mr. Grumpy/Sunshine then Tearing Me Apart by E.A. Buckingham-Young needs to be your next read. Ian Campbell finds himself in need of a new assistant when his current one retires. As much as he knows the hard struggle and temptation he will face to remain professional if hires Nora, the thought of hiring a brand new assistant he has no time to train is absolutely abhorrent to him. Ian’s incessant need for control, his own traumas, and workaholic lifestyle leave him no room for romance or relationships.
Nora has been through hell for most of her young life, having to take care of her brothers after their mom passed away all too soon and their dad turned to the bottle to cope(unsuccessfully), working as Jack’s (MMC from I’ll Be Seeing You by E.A. Buckingham-Young) assistant, and maintaining her daily morning routine of green smoothies and running leaves her no time for a dating, let alone a relationship. She is burning the candle at both ends to take care of everything and keep a roof over her and her brothers’ heads, even if it’s just a small, sometimes roach-infested, apartment.
When Ian’s assistant retires, and Ian asks Nora if she’d like the promotion, Nora instantly accepts so she can start to get ahead in life and hopefully out of that hovel of an apartment. There is just one minor problem: Nora is just as attracted to Ian as he is to her.
On a rare night out, Nora not-so-accidentally drunk dials her boss, which immediately puts Ian into “must protect Nora at all costs” mode. What will happen to Ian’s control and professionalism when it’s continuously tested by Nora’s sass and charm? What will happen when they are snowed in during a work trip and there’s only one room with one bed available?
Tearing Me Apart is the third novel in The Sleepless City Series and can be read as a standalone, or, if you’re OCD like me and like to read series in order, can be read after reading I’ll Be Seeing You(1) and Waiting in the Wings(2) which are equally amazing! Just like the other two books in the series there is the perfect amount of spice, suspense, and sweetness. A 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 (5-star) for me and another highly recommended must-read from the clever and talented E.A. Buckingham-Young!
E.A. Buckingham-Young.... Ma'am, we need to talk about how this book gave me all the feels. First off, being attracted to older men myself I love a good age gap. Second, when I say slow burn... By the time the magic happens... Well to say I was squirming in my seat hot and bothered is an understatement.
This book stars Nora, a young woman who has the weight of always being the "fixer" on her shoulder... You know the type, takes care of everyone but herself no matter how much she has to personally sacrifice. (This was personally hard hitting as I am a "fixer" myself) From the dedication: "It's okay to let someone else help you carry the weight of the world that's on your shoulders." To the words "The End," I had to stop and close the book and let the feelings wash over me. The way Buckingham-Young is able to paint mental/emotional turbulence is so raw and real. Nora is promoted to be the assistant to the Co-CEO of the company she works for, Ian Campbell. Okay so Ian is incredibly hot but broody, but that seems to be how Nora likes it. Nora can tell Ian may be a little interested and begins flirting and shooting her shot. Ian, due to his past, is emotionally unavailable and is trying to be responsible in his actions with Nora. He says,"I'd make her regret it without even meaning to because she would always be open and candid and vulnerable and the only thing I could ever be was inaccessible and guarded." But fast forward... Like I said slowly, and you get, "I'm going to worship you so thoroughly that you'll be completely ruined for any other man when I'm through with you." Whaaaa????? I wish a man would tell me this...I would literally be a puddle in the floor!
This book not only has the spice (which is spicing nicely) but also the mystery of finding a killer and the journey of healing emotional trauma. When Nora says, "But I'd always wanted someone who could take care of me. Someone who would hold me while I broke apart and then help me find all my pieces as I put myself back together," I closed the book and cried like a baby. So yeah, E.A. you wrecked me but I'm all the good ways. Thank you so much for giving a voice to the "fixers" of the world. (Side note...I too drink my share of Rum)
Reading this sent me on a rollercoaster of emotions. Nora and Ian have so many inner demons and trauma to digest.
Nora tries to please everyone, she is a ray of pure sunshine. Ian keeps people at arms length and is as grumpy as they come.
Nora is attracted to Ian, even though he is 15 years older than she is...and he's her boss!! Age-gap, office romance I hear you giggle :-)
When they get snowed in during an office trip and they end up in a room with one bed, neither can deny their attraction for much longer. Nora loves to challenge Ian, seeing him get riled up. She pushes his buttons and it just makes him want her more. He tries so hard to keep his feelings at bay but eventually, he caves.
Nora and Ian have both suffered loss and pain in their pasts. They are both dealing with so much trauma. Nora has looked after her younger brothers for so long, they are her life. She lives, breathes and works for them. Unlike Nora, who took this in her stride and moved forward, Ian ran from him pain and trauma. Distancing himself from his brother and his past.
I loved the banter between Nora and Ian. I loved Nora's relationship with her friends. I adore Nora so much. She is so strong for someone so young. I loved how much Ian adores Nora and how he just wants to look after her. I laughed and I cried. I held my breath in some parts and I actually thought I was going to pass out....
"Of course I love you. You're the best part of my life. You're the happiness I never thought I'd be able to find again. You bring out the best parts of me and you forgive the worst".
I was lucky to receive this as an ARC and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
While there was an overlaying plot that hinted at a larger danger, it really took a massive backseat and almost felt like an afterthought thrown in. I would have preferred to see more of those elements better woven in throughout the story more directly, versus the indirectness that is mostly used. I don't want to give away anything, so that's about as obscurely I can discuss that part.
However, if you take out that bit, the rest of the story actually stands on its own fairly well! It's a lovely, sweet contemporary romance between coworkers. I really enjoyed how strong and tenacious our FMC, Nora is. And while I wish her story and background were both more deeply explored and better resolved, seeing what resolution she did get was fantastic.
Ian, our MMC, is such one of my favorite kind of people. They're hard on the outside, whether from experience that has taught them the need to be so, or as a facade to protect themselves. But when they do allow you in, they have the best, softest, kindest cores. And Ian is definitely in this category. An M&M of a human.
The spice was sweet and sensual, with a teeny little hint of Dom/sub but definitely not anywhere near full on BD$M. Still, from the onset, when they do finally give into one another, it's all loving.
I really enjoyed this story and seeing what must have couples' from past books was great!
I definitely want to go back and read the first two books as this was my first book by E.A. Buckingham-Young.
This is the first book I have read by this author and I know I will be finishing this series. This book is one of a series of interconnected standalones. I really appreciate when authors bring all of their characters for cameos in other books. It definitely happens here.
I'm such a sucker for broody, grumpy men and sweet, caring women. Ian has closed himself off from everything and anyone because making connections only means heartache. After losing his parents, he shut down and threw himself into his work, moving to the top quickly. He doesn't think he needs anyone in his life.
Nora is a caregiver. When she lost her mother and subsequently her father, she was thrown into a parenting role when she was supposed to be living up her late teen years. Taking care of her 3 little brothers was her responsibility and although she did it because she wanted to, she sacrificed everything for them.
Living in a small, grungy NY apartment with 2 of the 3 of her brothers, Nora is taking care of them well I to adulthood. She has to work to support and gets promoted to work under co-CEO Ian.
Nora is what Ian never thought he needed and Ian is everything Nora needs. The two of them are fighting their own demons and are completely made for each other. The taunting and banter and back and forth between them is fantastic.
The book covers a lot. So much happens and it all leads to a HEA for the couple. There are some surprises and tense moments, some times I got angry at the characters, and some incredibly spicy moments too.
All the favorite tropes are in this one! Boss/assistant, age gap, possessive MMC, only one bed, jealousy.
- Grumpy/sunshine - Workplace romance - Pining - Opposites attract - He falls first - Protector vibes
I love an office romance, especially when the boss is super grumpy. Ian is the epitome of a grump and I loved every minute of it. When his assistant retires, he hires the very efficient Nora. The only problem? Ian is very attracted to Nora, but wants to remain professional.
Nora has no time for a relationship. She is taking care of her brothers and has done so for several years. She is worn out and stretched thin financially. Her apartment is subpar, but is all she can afford.
Thrilled at the pay rise that comes with the new position, Nora eagerly accepts the assistant role. However, she is very attracted to her new boss Ian. One night, after a few drinks, makes the mistake of texting Ian letting him know how attracted she is to him. How will Ian maintain his distance now? Things heat up between the two when they are snowed in at a conference.
Nora helps Ian reconcile with his brother, but their relationship was strained by a series of events. Can Ian make peace with his past or will it forever affect his future happiness?
This book had all of the drama and passion I have come to expect from this author. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.
I want to start off and say this book doesn’t have a third act break. So if that’s not enough encouragement to read the book, then I guess keep reading this review.
HONESTLY THOUGH! Thank you for not doing the third act break, and the miscommunication trope.
Anywayyy. Let’s get into it. Nora? She was an independent woman, but not the one that is mean right off the bat like a lot of romance now these days. Is she stubborn? Heck yeah, but Ian needed a stubborn woman. When she finally let those walls crash, and fall apart? Amazing. I love me a sad girl moment and I was here for it. LET HIM SPOIL YOU!!!
Watching Ian fall in love was a beautiful sight to see! All the small things he did? Perfection. I agree with Nora, he’s everything.
The relationship between her and her brothers broke my heart, but I’m so glad things worked out in the end!
Nora and Ian were a beautiful couple fixing each other one piece at a time and the communication was spot on.
The writing style was easy, and smooth. The spice was there for sure, I personally like more but I’m a little bit of a smut sluț so what can I say? What was there was 🥵🥵🥵
Another shout out for an indie author! Indies work twice as hard. This book deserves to get some love!
Holy shit. This book…I did not want it to end. This was so well written that it utterly sucked me into the books characters and I absolutely fell in love with the FMC, Nora, and the MMC, Ian. I didn’t know what to expect going into this other than romance but this book seriously had it all! I laughed, I cried, I cheered for the characters and was shocked at some of the events that happened. This book incorporates so many of my favorite things in one book - spice, romance, grumpy/sunshine, billionaire CEO, touch her and die, he falls hard and even murder! Yall. I cannot even begin to say enough good things about this book! Do yourself a favor and read it. I will not put any spoilers because I am a go in blind reader, but seriously these characters will live rent free in my brain!
I would like to say thank you to author for an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This is the first book of E.A. Buckingham-young that I have read but I will absolutely be going back to read the first 2 in this series!!
I received this as an ARC copy in return for a honest review. I ate this book in two days. Nora and Ian’s story is more tender than Jack and Olivia’s or Ben and Eve’s. Nora has the world on her shoulders, always taking care of everyone to a fault. Both Ian and Nora suffered trauma, and while Nora takes that in as a reason to take care of everyone else, Ian shuts them out. This is a boss/assistant romance, but it’s so much more than that. It’s about two broken people tearing each other apart to mend each other even stronger. They compliment each other in the best way. Nora lets Ian take care of her while giving him something to shower with affection. It’s so sweet. And that dedication struck a chord with me, being a mom and taking care of everyone in the household, afraid to be taken care of. I understood Nora and this book helped heal that little piece of me that I didn’t know needed some mending.
To be honest this was my first E.A Buckingham book and I honestly fell in love with this book after the first page. I didn't want to put it down which turned it into a very fast read well atleast for me. The spice was on point for sure, the spice was well written and definitely had me fanning my self. Did I mention the spice? Yeah it was definitely that good.
So in this book we see that opposites quite literally attract and this attraction definitely works. Shy peaceful Nora and our handsome grumpy Ian finally get pushed together unexpectedly while at a conference where they are quite literally snowed in. Ian, already knowing Nora's feeling as well as showing his in the office. The only problem is can Nora help him get past his fears or will his past ruin a good thing? And we all know what they both need and that’s happiness and love. Remember as always please check your triggers before diving into this book. We don’t want anyone’s mental health to be affected by this book.
I love this story. Such a good boss/employee story. The characters are relatable and easy to love them more as the story goes on. The timeline advancement is spot on and not farfetched, it's easy to follow with Good character growth. I love that they recognize their flaws and limits and grow to exceed them. That it's not all happy relationships 24/7 with the side characters. It's makes for a good balance and logical ups and downs family's face.
Ian is dream! My favourite quotes from him:
“I’m no hero, sweetheart. I’m feeling just villainous enough to take what I want, whether or not it’s what’s best for you in the long run.”
“I’m going to worship you so thoroughly that you’ll be completely ruined for any other man when I’m through with you.”
Oh I have been so giddy with excitement to read Ian and Nora’s story! Ian is forbidden fruit being Nora’s boss (the CEO) as well as being 15 years older than her! Not only that but Ian is so grumpy and not easy to be around. But he’s not so good about hiding his attraction towards Nora…oh she’s picking up on those vibes and she will get her man! I love that there is a level of mystery involved in this book, which adds to the angst and suspense of this book! Ian was involved in a horrible car crash which resulted in a loss of memory due to a brain injury…but Ian’s brother thinks his accident could be involved with their parents death the week prior! So good!!!!
This book had me feeling everything! What do you get when two very broken, traumatized people get together? A true love story. I cried, I giggled, I laughed and cheered too. While reading every page, I felt everything the characters were feeling and soon became invested in them and their stories. Hoping that they would find happiness and peace. A grumpy boss who was always attracted to an assistant who worked in his building. An assistant who was always attracted and drawn towards towards the boss/co-owner of the business she worked for. The forbidden, the untouchable, the ultimate desire. It was a match made in heaven. I absolutely loved Nora and Ian's story.
This book had all the troupes! Age gap, forbidden since he is her boss, hotel only having one bed, past trauma and so much more.
Nora lost her parents as a teen and had to step in to raise her brothers. When they became adults, she had a hard time stepping away. Ian also lost his parents but reacted differently by avoiding his brother. I loved how Nora and Ian learned from each other and Nora let her brothers go while Ian became close with his brother again.
I loved watching these characters grow from Boss/secretary both with their own baggage to being in a committed relationship who learned to let each other in.
Couldn't wait for Nora's story and I have to say I wasn't disappointed! Ian is the perfect partner, boss, lover and caretaker for Nora. Nora needs to feel wanted and needed by those around her and Ian knows that Nora needs to be taken care of as she has been doing for her brothers for years. Their chemistry is off the charts...H.O.T! It is spicy and sexy and yummy. Office romance, love it! Murder/mystery romance, love it! Off the charts oh lala, love it!! ❤️ Loved the 3rd book in this series and can't wait to add it to my bookshelf!! I received an arc copy for an honest review of this book. 5 🌟, 5 🌶, 5 👍
I received an advance copy of E.A. Buckingham-Young's newest release. I enjoyed reading about the journey of Ian and Nora. This book captured my attention from the very first page and I did not want it to end. The pace was right on point and the characters were relatable and real. E.A. Buckingham-Young explores the issues of losing the ones you love and how that affects adult relationships in life. The issues of instant attraction and not giving in because of your work relationship. Also, coming to terms with what you thought you knew only to find the real truth. This book is filled with loss, love, hard work, spice, and a light dusting of drama and suspense. You won't want to put it down.
Tropes: Taboo (Boss/Assistant); age gap Possible TW? Power Imbalance.
This story literally had everything I would want in a story. While she's not a kicking ass type of bad ass, Nora, the FMC holds her own. Maybe a little too tight, as do all first-born daughters. And Ian is my new book husband. He is absolutely FERAL for his woman, and we love to see it. This man is generous in all aspects. Not only is this well written, but the smut is SMOKING (insert the Mask gif here), but there's an actual story and plot here.
Treat yourselves, my friends. You won't regret it.
NO SPOILERS!! I loved this book, I’m not typically into office romances but this one sucked me in!! It has all the tropes, all the spice, but it was also a beautiful learning journey for both characters, I think they complimented each others learning and growing process so well. This was beautifully written, 5 ⭐️ and the spice 5⭐️ as well!! DEFINITELY give this book a read if you like assistant/CEO, one bed, hyper independent FMC, age gap, grumpy/sunshine, jealous/possessive MMC, and angst family dynamics 🖤💚 Happy Reading!!
Oh man I would have devoured this book in a day if I didn’t have work and deal with kids, my youngest being 3 months old. This book has spice, slow burn, forbidden love, happy ever after and so much more. Ian and Nora have been thru so much in their past, both loosing their parents. The only difference was Nora never let loss keep her from being happy while Ian let it keep him from happiness. I’m so glad they were both able to over come everything and get the HEA they both deserved. I highly recommend this book!! Can’t wait to see what happened in the next book!! 5/5
First, I want to say how much I enjoyed this book! This was my first book by this author and I wasn't disappointed. Now I need to go and read the others in this collection. With themes of grumpy/sunshine and boss/employee... There was mystery, drama, spice, and a bit of humor.
Nora and Ian, truly were a great match, despite being so opposite. I loved seeing their relationship develope and the steamy scenes were delicious!
Overall, I think this was a great read and I look forward to reading more from E.A. Buckingham-Young!
The author did such an amazing job of painting a picture of the ideal man, which sends a reader like myself into bliss and wanting more. I couldn’t put this down the entire 4 days it took me to read. The only reservation I had is for personal reasons, having a law enforcement background, action scenes are hard for me to dive into such as was painted in this book. This is just a personal preference and nothing on the author. Overall, I loved this book and had such a hard time putting it down.
I absolutely adored and devoured this. I loved Nora's fierce, independent, and strong spirit. She pulls no punches (literally!) and is unapologetic. Seeing Ian heal and work through his trauma was something I identified with and found it very touching. that bombshell at the end though! I suspected him but the confirmation was wild. Wish we had found out who Ghost was. I'd love to see that mystery solved in a 4th story featuring Maverick! And let's be honest, the spice was spicin' 🥵🌶🌶🌶 Absolutely loved reading this.
Nora and Ian are opposites that have both experienced trauma in their lives. While Nora uses her experience to help others, Ian pushes everyone away. She has loved Ian for some time and being snowed in together has finally drawn them together but for them to really think about having a relationship Ian has some issues from his past he needs to take care of. Will he and Nora get their chance for happiness in the end. I am volunteering to leave a review for an ARC of this book.
This book captures so much into all the pages. It is the perfect combination of age-gap, forbidden romance and grumpy boss.
Nora is a selfless FMC, raising her siblings since she was a teenager after losing her parents, sacrificing everything to keep them together. Ian shut down and closed himself off, only focusing on work. When she is promoted to work with the CEO, Ian’s world will be complete changed.
