I'm pretty sure I read the majority of this book with my mouth hanging open in shock. Five stars!" -Amazon reviewer"Intense and spellbinding, and you won't want to put it down except to catch your breath!" -Amazon reviewer"This one kept me on the edge of my seat, up past my bedtime with nonstop tension. I love post-apocalyptic fiction, and Kyla Stone is one of the best in this genre." -Amazon reviewer"I woke up at midnight to read this book when it released. Kyla, you have once again outdone yourself with this series which is like none other I've read!" -Amazon reviewer"Wow! What a story! A nail-biting apocalyptic end of the world scenario. Five stars!" -Amazon reviewer "I absolutely loved the twist to the normal EMP story! What an action-packed and emotional story. I can't wait to see what happens next.
There's a lot of tension in this story. It begins with brutal behavior and evil. Throughout the story, people are forced to live in a very unstable environment in which all the suppressed anxiety and animosity is forced to the surface. I cannot even imagine how it would be possible to get people to work together. How could any leader be effective? Who would lead and give orders? How do you make people understand that the system of entitlement is beyond broken, but there is strength in numbers, yet everyone has to do some work. It makes the pyramids of Egypt and Mexico look more wonderous. From my experience, small groups would have more success than larger groups, but there's the rub, yes? People have already turned to mob rule and vandalism during protests, plus stores and markets are regularly being swarmed by gangs of shoplifters, who easily become violent; certainly, that is the reality now, so how fast would things decay after a major breakdown of infrastructure. This book is fiction, but it does an excellent job of portraying the negative, selfish side of humanity, and that there are real monsters out there in the world.
A top favorite series of mine. I first got hooked on this series after reading Chaos Rising! That is one crazy ride, focused on the adrenaline filled chaos that I love with end-of-the-world tales.
Although, I do think that the order of the books in this book set follows the timing more accurately, I was first hooked reading Chaos Rising first.
Here my reviews for the books individually:
Book 1 A woman stuck in a basement prison for the last 5 years when the apocalypse hits? This point of view and rush of hope is so incredibly raw, I was pulled in immediately. Hannah is broken in every way that you can possibly imagine, but she is a fighter and this thriller takes you with her as she tries to escape her prison: physical and emotional.
Book 2 "We've got a body." Isn't that one of the best starts to a book? Right in the middle of the action from the start. And by the time the book ends, there are so many more. The journey is of madness, as the town of Fall Creek try to manage the chaos following the EMP. The characters are so different from each other but they must work together to survive, and their strength shines through. Quinn and her grandmother are such great characters! I cannot wait to read the next book and see how all these characters, from the different books, come together.
Book 3 Book 3 might be the best book yet in the series (after Chaos Rising because I still love that one so much)! In this book we accompany all the characters introduced so far and the decisions they have to make, the terror and helplessness they are faced with are skin prickling tense.
I enjoyed this book thoroughly, so much action makes it a hard book to put down. Plus all the heart that makes up each character. Kyla has done a really good job of depicting the fight with true life monsters and the demons we face within us.
I started this EMP Apocalypse series by a female author after reading some good reviews and hearing some good things about the writer. I thought it sounded good. And, to a point, it is. Very good. I was totally absorbed in books 1, 2 and 3. Less so, by book 4. Well written. Believable, likeable characters. Authentic reactions and emotions. Fascinating setting. Scary. Thrilling. Action-packed. Some great twists, shocks and surprises. Gorgeous and heroic dog. Good back stories. Largely captivating plot that does drag on a wee bit here and there though. However, all that said, I’m not sure I’m going to go on to read the other books in the series. Too many other books to read and not enough time to read them all in. I’ll be honest, it does irritate me a little when I get started on a good series that never seems to end. I like an end. Its part of a satisfying story arc. I’m having a similar experience with Keith C. Blackmore’s Mountain Man series.
I’m absolutely hooked on the Edge of Collapse series. This is my first time reading anything by Kyla Stone and I’m so impressed. The books make you think and have a storyline that grabs you and doesn’t let go. The second book is great, but also a little painful because it switches to different main characters with so many cliffhangers still being left unresolved from the first book. DO NOT SKIP THE PREQUEL!!! The others books will make a lot more sense if you’ve read Liam’s backstory and it’s a fairly quick read too. Set yourself up with snacks and drinks because you won’t want to put this down until you’ve found out how everything ends for these characters.
As someone who had zero experience with the EMP/post-apocalyptic genre, I can confidently say that the Edge of Collapse series is the perfect entry point. I finished the prequel and first three books on audio in two days (30+ hours) because I was so completely hooked.
The story immediately pulls you in and doesn't let go. You'll feel the characters' desperation, fear, and determination as they navigate a world without power, technology, or law. It's a gripping and fast-paced ride that makes you think about how you'd react in a similar situation.
For any first-time readers in this genre, this series is an absolute gem. I've already borrowed the rest of the series on Libby!
A well-written, if frighteningly plausible, tale of a world where our electronic world grinds to a halt. While I haven't investigated the accuracy of the science behind the 'asault' that created the problem, I was quickly drawn into the story, which begins with a woman being unknowingly 'released' from a basement where she'd been held (and abused) for several years. Society has collapsed and it has become a man-out-for-himself world, with communities collapsing and the powerful (with guns) and greedy trampling over the socially-conscious and unarmed populace. The story is set in a snow-driven state in American; it is violent and heavily hints at sexual abuse.
The USA is hit by an extremely strong EMP, electromagnetic pulse, that was possibly delivered by a bomb exploded in the atmosphere. It was strong enough to take planes out of the air, destroy most electronics all over the country and bring the nation to its knees. Anarchy is now rife, the brutality and independent streak prevalent in large numbers of the population is now unleashed. There are innocents caught in the cross-fire and destinies are altered dramatically. Who will rise above the violence and who will survive to begin a new world?
I was told that this series would be a real page turner and it truly is !
My wife said been telling me to read Kyla Stone’s post apocalyptic series after I just finished reading the silo trilogy. I just want to keep reading until I finish the books. When you look at what’s happening in the world right now I wonder how we would behave as a human race and how accurate Kyla Stone‘s fictional representation of how a small town community reacts, while reading you can’t help but think what would I do? And how would I survive and protect my family?
Loved this series of books. Wanted to continue reading about Liam, Hannah & Ghost but loved Edge of Madness about her husband, son & the people of Fall Creek. Some chapter endings were themselves cliffhangers which is why I called it addictive. Great storylines can’t wait to read Edge of Anarchy next. Great imagination from Kyla Stone. Writing is first class. Don’t want to spoil anything for you but these books are a must read. Enjoy you won’t be disappointed I promise you that much.
I have enjoyed this series - even when characters have annoyed me. However, Rosamond is a selfish bish, she raised Gavin and Julian and both are horrible sons. Plus, how did their think getting Sutter and the rest of the mercenaries was a good idea?!? Anyway, now I’m kinda rage reading this series because I need to know how it ends and hopefully Noah grows himself a pair.
I loved book 1 on Kindle. I decided to get the deal on Audible for books 1-3. I like them well enough, but there is a bit much on the -educate the reader as to what things would truly be like-. I agree with the author. But it's the execution of it. The lack of writing skill shows in these areas. Book 3 esp. would have been better if the author figured out how to insert this information into the story without it feeling like reading sections of non fiction survival guide types of books.
I’m headed to buy the next two titles in this series, amazed at a saga that thrills as it instructs. An EMP exploding over the U.S. is not a SciFi plot, but rather a threat that could occur. What sets this tale apart from most others in this genre is the valuable information the author provides. Her advice, told through her characters, might help us to survive such a terrible ordeal. Most of us are just too lazy to do it.
This is a truly remarkable series. What makes it so horrifying is how deeply realistic it feels on every page. Kyla Stone is a master of the 'what if,' and this story poses a chilling question: in a world without power, what happens to our memories? It made me think about all the pictures on my phone—thousands of moments that could be lost forever. A gripping, unforgettable, and thought-provoking survival thriller.
When I started the books I guess my thoughts were - yeah another apocalypse story but I’ll at least give a try especially sine I moved to SW Michigan last fall and wow! It is an apocalypse story that has kept me glued to the first three books from start to finish. I’ve really enjoyed it
Very good story and well written. I only wish that when I bought this set, I would have been informed that this was not a complete series. Now if I want to complete the story, I have to shell out approximately $30.00 more for the next 4 books. If I had known this, I would have never bought this set and feel taken advantage of.
I immediately loved the characters they have a life. The author makes you feel their story come to life. The storyline is. Oh the typical post apocalypse tale of shooting and looting from the bad guys. This is different and would make an incredible tv series.
Well written series were each book stands alone yet blends seamlessly into the next one. I found them hard to put down. They made me think about what will happen here when an EMp strikes. Character development is strong and I developed strong attachments to some of them. Great series that I recommend.
This had me in so many different emotions. Well wrote. I just want them to get together. 3 books in and I'm still getting teased. Can't wait for the next 1. Kyla well done. Love the way we come from different prospects. I don't read much but I will be reading the rest of these 10/10
I swear this series has me going down a rabbit hole but in a good way! I haven’t read a good post-apocalyptic book in a while and at first I didn’t think I would bc of the person point of view but I quickly got over it as the story was just too good to put down.
Filled with thrills, this action packed series brings it! It's the kind of "abandon all responsibilities untill ypu can finish. Apocalyptic chaos with a good old serial killer in hot pursuit. Filled with twist & turns, I am on to the lady book in this series! 5 star!
A excellent book overall. I like how there is a reduction of cursing in the language but some words were used more than needed. Like Tinny, the ear ringing sensation. It was used too much. I like word Chuff used to describe the dogs snorting sound, Ghost the Pyr.
Human nature explored within the context of the series characters is spot on! Story lines are gripping & this is my second time reading this series. I applaud Kyla Stone on another well written series. Great realistic sci-fun!
It has mystery, drama, excitement and human kindness all wrapped up in a story of the world falling apart. The story is well told to the point you feel as if you are apart of that world.
I had difficulty putting down this series. The characters are compelling and the story is filled with enough intrigue to hold one's interest from beginning to end. It's a post apocalyptic novel with interesting plot twists and a wonderful dog!
Love this series! Can’t put it down, losing sleep but worth it kind of read. Characters are strong, story is believable and different than the usual end of the world genre, no zombies is a nice change. I highly recommend it!
This was one crazy ride of a series, it was a page turner from the beginning. Great storytelling, lots of emotion, wanted to skip to the end so many times (but didn’t). Can’t wait to see what happens.
I enjoyed the character growth, world building, and story. I think there was a bit of inconsistency with technology that should also stop working, but it can be explained away I suppose. Solid 4 stars
This was a great read. It draws the reader into the action by creating believable characters that are easy to cheer for or dislike. Can’t wait to start the fourth book!!
