This is book two in The Ashford’s series and it is Theo and Emilie’s story and omg it is definitely a must read. Theo has so much on his plate managing the Ashford Family Business and Legacy which was in fact huge and a enormous responsibility but now Theo needed to be married as his brother Roman was supposed to take over but now lives in England meaning that Theo is next in line and as it is approaching wedding season and Theo’s bride has already been chosen for him as when you are part of The Golden Society arranged marriages were normal and Theo knew that this was his duty and love didn’t come into the equation but love was something he always wanted and he hoped that it came in time. Emilie knew that once her sister was married it would then be her turn but at the moment Emilie could live her own life for a while until money, duty and tradition always comes before anything else even happiness but what she wasn’t expecting is for her sister Nora to run away because she had fell in love leaving Emilie to have to come forward to take her sister place for the family and legacy by marrying a man that she didn’t know. Emilie is determined to not fall in love with Theo as he is just a means to a end because he has the money that her family needs where as Theo wants love and doesn’t know if he can go through with the marriage to Emilie if things don’t improve between them leaving both of them in a difficult and complicated situation and neither know what the outcome will be for them in the end. Wow another amazing book in this series and I couldn’t put it down and had to keep turning the pages to see what would happen next between Theo and Emilie as they had many ups and downs even though there chemistry was off the charts hot but they were both strong and stubborn in their own way. I can’t wait to read the next book in this amazing series.
Theo Ashford, son of an English Duke and duchess now living in South Carolina, must take over the running of the Ashford assets since his older brother is now wed to a British royal, but the biggest flaw is that according to the rules of the Golden Society, in order to so, he must be wed. His father has his sights on Nora Hansen, oldest daughter of Norway’s royal family, knowing that with this alliance comes the requirement to stabilize the country’s finances.
Emilie Hansen, Nora’s younger sister, is hoping that after Nora is wed to Theo, she herself will find a match made with love rather than duty. But that all changes when Nora flees the castle in the middle of the night to follow her heart with a commoner. All eyes are now on Emilie to take her place at the Wed season and as Theo’s intended.
While their parents are on board with the engagement, Theo and Emilie are not, especially when Emilie announces her intentions to have a partnership that does not include a romantic relationship. Ouch! But Theo has is committed to changing her mind because he feels physical chemistry that could blossom into love.
Jacob Parker has once again created a luscious romantic novel that hits all the high notes, including royal traditions, family loyalty, breathtaking vistas, pageantry, and good old-fashioned lust. Because Theo and Emilie are polar opposites, they are faced with seemingly insurmountable challenges. Can he break down the barriers that she has constructed to protect her heart? Will she soften up enough to see the qualities that make him so special? Will they ever find a way for honor and love to coexist? Jump on board as they and their best friends Astrid and Jack embark on lively excursions to not only Norway, Wales, Scotland, and America, but hopefully, HEA.
I received this book as an ARC reviewer and voluntarily offer my honest opinion.
The Ashfords are a well-to-do aristocratic family that is part of a society that marries royalty. In order to make the bloodline pure and well to help the royal families gain more money to keep their lifestyles going.
Theo Ashford saw what his brother went through during his "season" the previous year. His brother wasn't in love with his "chosen" bride and instead married another member of royalty. His girlfriend from high school. Theo is a romantic at heart. He's not looking to be a member of royal society. He wants LOVE. Like his older brother. When he is chosen to be with Princess Nora of Norway, he immediately puts in all his energy to get to know her and how he can make her happy.
Slight bump in the road, though. Nora runs away, wanting a real life with her boyfriend (not a royal but a commoner). Emilie is the next in line, so her parents offer her hand in marriage instead. Emilie is devastated. Not only was she once just the "spare" heir, but now she isn't even someone's first choice. She doesn't want to be queen one day. She wants to work with animals. Being a royal will mess up all her plans.
The back and forth between Theo and Emilie is captivating to read. He immediately wants her and tells her that. She is torn between duty and love. Her duty to the crown is more important to her parents and it nearly breaks her in two.
You will love the way they Find each other. And how Emilie realizes she can have both - duty and love.
These two will keep you on your toes guessing! A must read! Theo and Emilie make a great match, eventually, steamy one minute, baffled the next! He gave me some raised eyebrows a few times; I thought he's going to give up, so sad. Then boom he's back with her, phew! Her attitude about gave me whiplash! She's mad and running from him, then all of a sudden, she's headed to South Carolina to meet his siblings. They're remarkable when they're together, but she really has a tendency to get in her head and start with the crap her father fed her about duty comes first, love isn't allowed. Good Grief, what is wrong with some people, I wanted to throat punch her, then I'd think, no need, she came to her senses, um not so much. Well along comes the straw that broke the camel's back, he has had enough, he is done! Or is he? Can she convince him she's sorry, she didn't mean everything she said? Can he trust her? Will he forgive her or even go to the last session of the season? Warm and affectionate love match all the way, what an extraordinary HEA. Certainly one you can't stop reading! Thank you Jacob, as always a exciting read! I received this book as an ARC reviewer and voluntarily left my honest opinion.
This is the second installment of the Golden Society, where wedding matches are still made every year during Wed season. This book is about the 2nd Ashford son, Theo, who is matched with the Princess of Norway. However, his princess runs away with her true love before Wed season, and the 2nd princess in line, Emilie, is thrust into position. Emilie is resigned to her fate of duty and honor to the crown, even though it's a post she never wanted, and is not what she had envisioned for her future. Theo is also bound by duty to wed, as his brother has left (from the previous book) to marry HIS true love, the future Queen of England. Theo wants a true marriage, filled with love, passion and partnership. Clearly, this match is not going to go well! This book goes thru the trials and tribulations of this pair, that feels chemistry, but is torn apart by duty and honor. Poor Emilie is on a roller coaster of emotions, and it is no surprise that things go sideways during the entire Wed season. Without giving away the story, as we know, this is a romance novel, but the ending is quite surprising! I received this book as an ARC for my voluntary review.
Theo will take over his family’s holdings in the U.S. but he needs to be married first. His older brother Roman broke his match and married his beloved. Theo’s match ran away to be with her beloved. So Theo, the spare is matched with Nora’s sister, Emilie, the spare in her family. Can they be a match? It’s really a challenge for Theo. Emily wants to be a marine biologist, and now her dreams are shattered. She has been taught since birth that duty for her country comes first always, instead of love. When they see each other at the masquerade ball, they are really attracted to each other, but Emilie decides not to break down her walls at all. They are opposites in almost every way. They have very trying times between them. They do break some rules of the wedding season, and it’s very steamy. Emilie is hot and cold and hot and cold. It almost gives you whiplash. Can she ever change her outlook on life? Do they ever get together for good? You’ll be captivated when you read their story.
This is the second installment of this series, told in dual first person POV and leaves you with a HEA.
I loved Theo. He was definitely a swoon inducing romantic. I loved that he fell first and fell hard. It made me like him even more when he stood up for himself and his family. I wasn’t sure how I felt about Emilie for most of the book. I understood that she was raised differently than Theo and she was thrown into a world she wasn’t familiar with. With that said, I still wanted to shake some sense into her and tell her to get out of her head and realize how lucky she was!
I wish that I would have found out if Astrid and Jack made things official. I borrowed the book from Kindle Unlimited to snag the extended epilogue. I was happy to see how the relationship was repairing for Emilie and her sister. I was also happy to get a glimpse of more happiness for Theo and Emilie. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
I received an advanced readers copy. These thoughts and opinions are my own.

Another book from The Ashford's series and this one is about Roman's brother Theo. I knew that from Roman's book I will love Theo and you did not disappoint, he was such a sweetheart who was searching for love from the very beginning despite his parents have already chosen his bride. Unfortunately for him his bride ran away and there come Emilie who is the sister of the runaway bride. I felt so bad for her as she had dreams but had to walk on her sister's shoes and be the next Norway's queen. She wanted so badly to please her dad that all she was seeing was her duty despite how Theo made her understand they can balance their life with both love and duty. I love how Theo's parents were supportive and how Emilie finally stand for herself. Well, there is a HEA and it is definitely a must read book. You will not disappoint as Jacob Parker did his magic again in this book.
Theo Ashford, 2nd son an heir of an English Duke and Duchess, is betrothed to Nora Hansen, princess and heir of the Royal Family of Norway. Right before the wed season, Nora disappears into the night leaving her sister Emilie as her substitute. Theo is an honorable romantic who has the support of his family despite the scandal of the prior wed season when his older brother chose a love match making Theo the heir. Emilie knows Nora chose love which thrust Emilie into the spotlight that she did not anticipate nor want. Theo came from a family filled with love while Nora and Emilie grew up being having been taught duty is paramount and love unnecessary and for the weak. Fortunately for Emilie, Theo won’t give up on his preference for a love match that he wants with Emilie. She is his chosen, not just the substitute. The Hansens need the Ashford money while the Ashfords need the royal lineage
This is the second book in the Ashford family series, and although it can be read as a stand alone, for greater understanding and enjoyment however it definitely helps to read the books in succession. It is the run up the the Wed season of the Golden Society and this was going to be the story of Theo, second son of the Ashford, and Nora, Princess of Norway, that is until Nora decided to take matters in her own hands and break her match with Theo, leaving him to be matched with her younger sister, Emilie. This book explores the concepts of duty and responsibility versus love, and we follow this the story of their relationship, exploring the boundaries of the expectations around them, the limits imposed by others, and their learning and adjustments that they can make to the situation to reach the best outcome for them. A thoughtful and insightful story and I look forward to reading more in this series, I received this book as an ARC
The Wrong Royal, book two in The Ashfords series follows the next oldest sibling, Theodore Ashford, or Theo and the Princess of Norway, Emilie Hansen. As the story begins, we are first introduced to Theo and Nora Hansen, but when Nora realizes that she can’t go through with the forced marriage, she flees leaving her sister Emilie to step up and take her place. Not only does Emilie step up to be matched to Theo, she now has the responsibility to become the next Queen of Norway. Emilie dreams of a simple life where she can wed for love, but when they discover Nora missing, her life changes in a heartbeat and she finds herself thrust into the life she never wanted. Theo is looking for love, but Emilie only wants to secure an alliance for her family and to help them with their finances. She looks to Theo more as a business partnership than an actual relationship. But what happens when Theo worms his way into her heart? Will the cold princess change her mind and give Theo a chance?
Theo family is rich and the Queen and King where they are financially troubled . Nora was to marry him but decided she wanted real love. So she ran a way. That but Emilie in the hot seat. Theo meets Emilie and she was very stiff and all about her country. It was wed season so they were with all the people that were looking to Wed. There was activity that they went to . There was away time in between the events. Emilie got to know Theo and decided he was fun. So they went to all the events and as they did they got close. Theo was tasked with looking at some of the properties for Emilie parents . Her father wanted her be just about the country so she did a broadcast that talked about the country and was cold that Theo didn’t know what happened to the girl he was seeing. Check the book and see what happens
The next Wed Season starts off with scandal as the Norwegian princess abdicates the throne and flees to be with the man who captured her heart, a commoner. But Nora's abrupt departure throws Emilie into a role she never anticipated, both as heir to the thrown and as Theo Ashford's match in the Golden Society.
Emilie's struggles in trying to balance her duty with her heart played a large role in this story. Like up to the final chapters. I enjoyed watching her relax and grow to love Theo, though I wish it had happened sooner. I really liked the woman she became, standing up to her parents and following her heart.
I can't wait for the next Wed Season and Violet's turn to meet her match.
This is another enjoyable read in this series with Theo and Emilie. It takes a short bit to warm up to Emilie, she's put into a position that she never wanted or expected to be in and she's not handling that very well. Theo still wants a marriage based on love, even if it's arranged and I loved that about him, the determination that he has and the connection he's trying to build with her. Their build up is a good one and takes you on their journey with ups and downs, as the bond that gets stronger. I loved getting to know these characters, continuing to love the Ashford family and looking forward to more from them!
I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Although this is the second book of the Golden Society it can be still be read as a stand-alone. Theo and Emilie are paired together due to Emilie’s elder sister running off with a commoner leaving Emilie to take her place in the match. I really felt for Theo in the story. His character was very likeable and he had integrity by sticking to his principles and wanting to marry for love. He was sorely tested by Emilie who was very much controlled by her parents. A very readable book especially as I was wanting everything to work out for them. The Ashford family are a down to earth delightful family and I can’t wait for their next story.
4 stars I received a free copy of the steamy extended novel The Ashfords: The Golden Society by Jacob Parker and this review was given freely. A story of finding love and accepting happiness despite duty and honor. I enjoyed watching Emilie slowly change and grasp for hope with the persistent and determined attention of the forthright and more relaxed personality of Theo and his family. A twist of fate and financial difficulties place the second-oldest Ashford, Theo in an arrangement to marry the overwhelmed, newly appointed, and parentally oppressed heir of Norway, Princess Emilie. 18+ for extended gymnastic intimate scenes.
This is such a brilliant read. Theo is now going through the the Wed season but what he really wants is to marry for love. Emilie has been thrust into the Wed season as her older sister ran away to be with the man she loves. She wanted more from life but knows that she has to go through with the marriage yo save their country from financial ruin. Can Theo bring out the love from Emilie or us he destined for a loveless marriage. I loved how they were together when she let herself have fun but is that enough. A must read with a brilliant ending. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
Terrific read. This is the 2nd book I. This author’s series titled the Golden Society. This story follows Theo, the 2nd Ashford son. His marriage is arranged with the Princess of Norway. But, before the wedding can happen runs away with the man she loves so the 2nd princess in line, Emilie, is now the ‘one’ for Theo. Emile has no pretences and has accepted this situation even though this is far from what she wanted for herself. Coincidentally, Theo also finds himself in a very similar situation as his brother also was forced to flee in order to marry his love. A good story, keeps you turning pages. The ending though, took me by surprise.
Theo finds himself having an arranged marriage because his older brother married a British royal. Now he has to run the Golden Society and has to be married. His bride was picked but it didn’t happen and her younger sister Emilie is put in place to be his bride. She thought she could live her own life but her obligation to her family and country has to come first. As they marry each had different thoughts but he wants a happy marriage and family and sets out to show her that they could love each other. Will it happen? I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
This is a heartfelt romance between royals, Theo and Emilie. These two flawed but likeable souls and the unique plot make for an intriguing read. What starts out as an arranged marriage turns into something more. It is an emotional journey with drama and steam, humor and charm, sexual tension and chemistry, and twists and turns, plus appealing secondary characters to keep the reader interested. Entertaining with all the feels.
I received an Advance Reader Copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
It should be illegal for men to write women characters. They are always so unlikable while the man is written as essentially perfect. Theo was handsome, kind, rich, and looking for love while Emilie was standoffish and honestly pretty rude to Theo most of the time. Aside from the fact that in real life Norway wouldn’t ever be poor, everything about Emilie and her family was at odds from what we all know of real Norway and Norwegians. I just can’t express enough how awful this was. I hate bad female characters in a genre essentially written for women.
I liked this book because it portrayed Theo, a man in an arranged marriage situation, still wanting to truly get to know his match so they could develop feelings for each other and eventually learn to love one another. He would not settle for a loveless marriage. To me, that spoke volumes about his character. Emilie was frustrating at times, but I could understand the sense of duty she had been raised to uphold. It was great when they finally achieved their hard-won HEA.
I liked this story because of Theo. He was committed to the match to THE WRONG ROYAL and ever optimistic that he would make a love match. He’s a great character.
Princess Emilie was one of those characters that needed to get out of her own way. Stubborn, determined and forever taking one step forward and two steps back. The question becomes, what will be there when she finally reaches the end?
Theo was set to marry Nora but she ran away. He’s determined to find a love match and make it work. Emilie is a stubborn determined princess she constantly gets in her own way and takes two steps forward and one step back. When she meets Theo she’s stiff and unnatural but through all the trials and their personalities they find the love they both were looking for. This book was the perfect Royal read.
This is kind of a slow burn romance with Theo and Emilie both dealing with the archaic traditions of the royals. They have their ups and downs as they work their way toward happiness and love. The author does a great job building their story and paints his scenes perfectly. He moves the story fluidly and delivers an entertaining read.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
Book two off the Golden Society that is another must read! Royalty and aristocrats matched to marry for duty not necessarily love.Theo and Emily each want to marry for love. Duty led characters who are bound by duty to marry who each want more. I enjoyed the determination and strength of characters and their chance to get their happily ever after. Passion and desire can be a slow build. Another must read by Jacob Parker. *I was given a copy and am voluntarily giving my honest review.
I really liked Theo’s character. After watching his brother fall in love, it is now his turn. His first match doesn’t work out as determined as he is, she is not. He is then matched with her sister, Emilie, talk about complicated. Theo has an instant attraction to her. She doesn’t want to be the second choice. Can they both get out of their own way and find that love and happily ever after? I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
This is the second book in The Golden Society, a series of interconnected standalone romances. Theo and Emilie’s story is well written, and engaging. I liked Theo. He is Roman's brother (from The Golden Society, the first book in the series). He is handsome, determined, and supportive. Emilie is beautiful, and smart. Their slow burn romance is filled with push and pull. The world building is interesting. I liked Theo's parents. Looking forward to more in the series!
What an intense story, about pre arranged marriages, those who didn’t want or expect to be in such relationships. This story is about how the life of a royal family is drilled into their lives, so much that they don’t even realize that they have no emotional feeling in it. Sadly can people who are in these arrangements have ❤️ love, or find it in their hearts to love. Beautiful story.
Love how this author brought the characters alive on the pages. With this read the characters seem to be so alive that it was like you went on there journey with them. There are a few surprises in it that you don’t see coming. All round it has an outstanding storyline with very likable characters. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
