She owns my heart, but her father is intent on stealing my land. I would burn down Wyoming for Ellen Jasper. She barrelled into my small-town life with her quirky bakery and breathtaking beauty and owns every inch of my heart. But her corrupt father has it in for my family. He promises I’ll be sorry I ever met his daughter. Good luck asking him if it’s okay to marry her. On top of that, my brother is furious enough to kill me for putting my love life above family, tradition, and the land he covets. Despite feeling like a pair of star-crossed lovers, now that I know how good Ellen feels wrapped up in my arms, I’m never letting her go. Easier said than done, of course, when it comes to age-old feuds on gold-laden land. And when someone tries to kill me at the same time Ellen is called home for her father’s health scare—we’re unsure who can be trusted. One wrong move, and we could lose everything, including each other.
Sage Evans writes contemporary Westerns with witty characters, gritty storylines, intrigue, and heart-fluttering slow-burn romance. Sage grew up reading Zane Grey’s books, listening to Buck Owens’ songs, and frequently planning on moving to a big city. She drove, listened to a million audiobooks while sitting in terrible traffic, and built complex structures for big-name clients. Now that she’s back in a tiny town, she grows a garden and listens to an eccentric country music collection. She works in the commercial construction industry, adores her family, travels with her dogs, and frequently obsesses over everything. Her latest craft project. Hardcore restorations of cars and buildings. And, of course, whatever character she’s creating.
Ellen and Max have more troubles trying to be together. More secrets are revealed about the trouble at the ranch. Threats and danger come from strangers - and family - leaving them not knowing who to trust. While I enjoyed this book, I'd like to see more in the same setting. I received a review copy, and this is my honest review.
This is the second time I've read this story and I enjoyed it totally. A few things were left unfinished which would make it easy to add a book 4. As a relatively new author I'm impressed with the way Sage Evans tells a story.
