I was looking for a general overview & guide to the Bible to improve my general knowledge and this book was perfect.
It's well structured, giving an overview of the Bible, how it was written, and then it outlines each book and the main stories in an easy to read format. If you're curious about the Bible, how it was written, the difference between the Old and New Testaments, and the stories and characters, this book gives you all you need to know.
The author has taken a non-religious approach, exploring and explaining the Bible as one of the most influential books ever written. It's a good jumping off point if you want to then delve deeper into the Bible, or if you're simply curious, want to fill in gaps in your knowledge, this is the perfect book.
I also liked the Did You Know inserts - lots of surprising facts I didn't know - & the key verses from each book was good.
This is part of a series called 'A Quick Guide' - 4 books so far, this one, the Quran, Judaism and Napoleon Bonaparte. It will be interesting to see what Alex writes next as really do tell you all you need to know in a quick, concise manner.

An in-depth look at a historical document
This is a great idea for a book and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. It takes an in-depth look at the books of the bible - who wrote them, what each book is, who the key people are, what the key stories are about, and more. And a handy glossary for quick reference. Rather than a religious text, it is a look at the bible as a historical document and how it has influenced cultures.
