Caleb Lambert kills people for a living. The money is nice, but it comes a distant second to his primary reason for choosing such a Caleb often calls it “scratching an itch”.

Here’s the thing, Caleb won’t just accept any contract. He and his team thoroughly vet each and every prospective mark to make sure they deserve to be punished.

And why not? If anyone knows about true evil in this world, it’s Caleb Lambert. Along with his family, Caleb endured hell at the hands of multiple serial killers throughout his childhood, twisting his young mind into the mess it is today. Forever installed that need to “scratch an itch”.

And Caleb is frequently itchy, and business is good. But when a new job comes across his desk, Caleb’s entire world is turned upside down. The job appears to hold so many similarities to his past that he finds it all but impossible to turn down. An impulsive decision that could cost him dearly.

Author’s Caleb is a spin-off of the Bad Games series; however it is a stand-alone novel, and it is not necessary to have read/listened to the Bad Games series to enjoy.

DNF!

I gave up on this story after only 50%, I'm afraid to say - not like me at all! This story was like an extreme 1980s slasher/revenge tale, the sort of thing Sylvester Stallone or Charles Bronson would have starred in. Loads of explicit violence, lots of explicit sex and that's your lot. I'm too old for this rubbish but, judging by the number of 4 and 5 star reviews it got I am very much in the minority.

Caleb is no longer the traumatised boy from the Bad Games series, he has grown into something else entirely. Bad guys, watch out!

You don't need to read the Bad Game series before this but since i already had, it made for some nice background info as to why Caleb does what he does now.

Action packed and page turning, this book is a blast. Hints of John Wick are plastered across the pages but Caleb makes this story his own. I really liked his cocky attitude when it came to dishing out beatings and as always, Jeff's writing sucks you right in.

Hopefully there will be more books from this little side turn in the series.

Loved this so much! Caleb has been through so much from such a young age it’s little wonder he’s a little f*cked up. Yet he still has his morals and only goes after those who he thinks deserves it. Think of a mix between Dexter and John Wick and that’s Caleb. You can’t help but love him.
You don’t need to have read the Bad Games series of books to read this but I’d recommend those to everyone anyway, they’re also awesome books.
I really hope we get more Caleb books!

This book was about a guy named Caleb who kills people for a living. He punishes those who deserve to be punished. As he finishes a job, he gets a heads up for another potential job. Caleb investigates first before he agrees and he ends up walking into a trap.

Review: To be honest, this was seriously f*cked up. It was a fast read. Little to no suspense or even a thrill. I kinda felt like it was boring. But it held my interest enough. The characters had 0 development. No personality. Nothing to really excite you. Caleb was just a hired con who kills. The whole book was...killing. And it was...detailed enough I had to skip pages. It was border bad and border okay.

Caleb is a spinoff from the "Bad Games" series with the character of Caleb now fully into the hitman lifestyle.

This is far less horror based and more John Wick meets fun little one-liners.

I was a little sad to see it drop a lot of it's horror feel but it made up for it in the way Caleb reacts to things, and just his general appearance. I liked that even though he's highly skilled, he still can take a beating. I also enjoyed the interaction with most characters, especially Mia. Give me more Mia.

While I feel it's a little weird with the relationship with his doctor it overall worked well. It makes me want to go re-read the original series.

Another brilliant story by the amazing Jeff Menapace 🙌
Caleb is a combination of John Wick meets Deadpool meets Dexter in this action-packed thriller about a wise-cracking contract killer with a heart. Only accepting contracts on those who deserve death, Caleb finds himself in quite the predicament when an unhappy former client puts an open contract out on him. Putting a plan into action, Caleb's team sends him to a small town in the middle of nowhere in Indiana. When hell arrives, Caleb does everything he can to protect the small western-style town and himself, determined to reunite with his dog. Never a dull moment, Caleb will have you laughing and your heart pounding with every turn of the page!

As always Brilliant. Gripping from start to finish. Be warned that once you’ve finished a Jeff Menapace book, the next book you read by a different author will seem a bit dull and difficult to get enthralled by. Jeff just has a gift for hooking you in from the first sentence and keeping you hooked until you close the book for the last time.

He's done it again

Another absolutely brilliant read from Jeff Menapace. So well written that after only a few pages you'll be hooked to not only the story but to Caleb himself. I've just finished the book and I'm ready for more, I really hope there's plans for a Caleb series.

Came through once again

I have been a fan since Bad Games, and have yet been disappointed with any of his books. When you can read a book and be horrified, grossed out and laugh, that's a great book! Once again, great writing and looking forward to the Caleb and Parsons buddy book!!

Always a great read

Another great read by a terrific author who knows how to keep readers on the edge of their seat.

Caleb works as a stand-alone but I highly recommend picking up the Bad Game series. They are incredible and give you the insight into Caleb's mindset.

If you haven't read this author you are missing out.

If you like John Wick, Dexter, and Reacher, you'll probably like Caleb Lambert!!

Great first installment for this series! Caleb gets his own spin-off from the Bad Games series and he deserves it after everything he's been through. It's not necessary to read the Bad Games series first although I recommend putting the series at the top of your TBR list.

Caleb has learned from an early age there is an abundance of evil in the world. His experiences have shaped him and led to an unconventional occupation. Caleb puts his dark side to work and can be brutal when tracking down the deserving evil targets. But, he can also be a big softy and it's hard not to love him! (No spoilers!)

Caleb is a fast-paced thriller that easily sets up this new series and I'm already looking forward to the next installment!

CALEB is a spin-off from the author's BAD GAMES series, and I had high hopes for his title, and this story exceeded my expectations! The pacing was relentless, the storyline had the author's dark, violent signature style, and best of all, I interpreted the ending as more installments could be coming!

I strongly recommend that you read the BAD GAMES five-part series to truly understand and enjoy CALEB, which does a masterful job of showing how someone scarred by severe trauma can still have some humanity.

Highly recommended!

"Caleb" by Jeff Menapace, published in 2021 and narrated by Gary Tiedemann, is a thrilling and intense audiobook that dives deep into the dark and twisted world of its protagonist, Caleb Lambert. This novel is the 1st in the "Caleb Lambert Thriller" series.

The story revolves around Caleb Lambert, a man who kills people for a living. Unlike typical hitmen, Caleb is driven by a personal vendetta against evil, stemming from the horrific experiences he and his family endured at the hands of multiple serial killers during his childhood. This traumatic past has left Caleb with an insatiable need to "scratch an itch," which he satisfies by taking on contracts to punish those he deems deserving.

Caleb's character is complex and multifaceted. He is not just a cold-blooded killer; he is a man with a moral code, albeit a twisted one. His meticulous vetting process for each job ensures that only the most deserving targets are eliminated. This adds a layer of depth to his character, making him more relatable and human despite his violent profession.

The plot thickens when Caleb receives a new job that bears striking similarities to his past, making it impossible for him to turn down. This impulsive decision sets off a chain of events that could cost him dearly. The tension and suspense build up as Caleb navigates this dangerous path, facing both external threats and his own inner demons.

Gary Tiedemann's narration is a standout element of the audiobook. His expressive voice and perfect pacing bring Caleb's character to life, making the listener feel every emotion and tension in the story. Tiedemann's ability to convey the nuances of Caleb's personality and the gravity of the situations he faces enhances the overall listening experience.

The story includes an action-packed plot, engaging characters, and a well-crafted world. Caleb is a mix of Dexter and John Wick, highlighting his unique blend of vigilante justice and personal vendetta. The fast-paced narrative and the emotional depth of the protagonist make it a compelling listen for any fans of thrillers and suspense.

In conclusion, "Caleb" is a gripping audiobook that offers a thrilling ride through the dark and twisted mind of its protagonist. With its well-developed characters, intense plot, and excellent narration, it is a great listen for anyone who enjoys a good thriller.

brutal, gory and straightforward

Out-Reachers Lee Childs’ Jack Reacher in implacability but the inner dialog inside Caleb’s brain adds a dimension lacking in Jack Reacher - not taking anything away from Reacher, just distinguishing the difference between the two protagonists.

This book was a serious yawn. Since when does a hired killer have morals. lots of violence, sex scenes, which did not make up for the seriously boring story and weak character. This book isn't a patch on his earlier books.

Creepy good. A serial killer with a conscience. He wants to get rid of the bad guys but doesn't want any harm to come to the good guys.

Despite being totally unbelievable, this story was quite a ride. I enjoyed it as I was cringing with horror. It was well written and fun to read.

Love love love Caleb! Killer with a conscience might be an oxymoron, but it makes for one hell of a character. Honestly, this is such a fun book, especially if you grab the audiobook. The narrator is fantastic and really brings Caleb to life. I am eager to read the other books in this series as well as the prior series where Caleb first makes his appearance.

Caleb!

After reading and enjoying all the bad games books I was excited to read this and it did not disappoint!
Caleb really is someone you would want in your corner, yes he’s a killer but he only kills those that deserve it! Is it wrong to like someone like that????......if so I must be wrong!
Loved this book, couldn’t put it down!!

Really fun fast paced read

Caleb definitely had the feel of a John Wick dipped in with the dark passenger of Dexter. Good fun, but with a really emotional backbone. Can't wait for the next one in the series.
