Geoffrey Neil, his wife and talkative son live in Los Angeles with a useless, ungrateful fish that Geoffrey threatens at least once daily. Completing a novel is a grueling process for Geoffrey, but he can't break his writing obsession even though he likes sleep, TV and people more than keyboards. His stories use disturbing implications more than graphic depictions to provide a satisfying thrill with little blood--a tactic many readers find equally assaulting on the senses. Geoffrey's overactive imagination and genuine fear of almost everything (You'd be shocked.) are tools that help him write thrillers, but also get him wound tighter than an eight-day clock. His wife calls him the mayor of Stress Town. That scares him. See?
Geoffrey is busy finishing his fourth novel, "Prey for Us", which will be released in 2016. For advance notice and other coveted perks, join his private Reader Group on his website. Meanwhile, why not try one of his other books? You never know ... that could boost Geoffrey's spirits enough to save a pathetic fish. Do the right thing. Do it for the fish.

This was not a great book, not the worst but far from great and so I wouldn’t exactly recommend it, although it had some interesting ideas it wasn't executed well.

I’m not sure what genre this is, I guess it’s action/adventure with a smattering of sci-fi only in that there is a science element to building blocks used throughout. I wanted to find out where this was going, so I kept reading, it was interesting but not gripping.

Sadly the protagonists are pretty awful walking cliches. We have a super strong and beautiful woman who likes to go around kicking ass, but don’t worry she only hurts/kills the baddies - the fact that she decides who is bad and who is good is awful, she is not nice, she’s a terrible vigilante, happy to kill for money and call it justice. We have a guy who is good with electronics and comes across as untrustworthy and a male chauvinist. They are both motivated by greed in this story, even her which goes against what the author has been trying to portray of her. We then have the quiet kid who is scared but a genius and represents everything you would expect from a nerd in trouble. This is the biggest problem with the book, the main characters are just not that nice, they are unoriginal and irritating. So these two good guys/crooks partner up to ‘help’ the nerd.

Thankfully I got this book for free I would be disappointed if I had paid for this. It is in equal measures unbelievable and exasperating, the characters nonsensical and I got bored of the plot going round in circles as they schemed and schemed and schemed again - there is more scheming than action. I kept waiting for something big to happen - I was disappointed.

If you want a mildly interesting action-ish story with a dash of unexplainable science fiction and some lazy character building then this is the book for you. I’m giving it 2.5*/5, mainly for the novel idea but I’m rounding down because 3 is too good.

Good foundational concept. However, it lacks the basis for the science or mechanics underlying the technology (even a fictional basis) at the heart of the motivating action. That is a big hole. Drags a bit too.

Unique

A fascinating base for a sci-fi story with interesting twists and turns. Great prose and setting, characters are a little stereotypical but still enjoyable

Interesting Concept

I just couldn’t get into the plot or the characters. The sub-lair was intriguing, along with the historical background. Unbelievable, but interesting.
