Eduard, in een boek waarin hij alleen maar aan het wauwelen is, over zichzelf: ‘meer dan naar gewoonte in diepe gedachten verzonken’ bro door al dat sentimenteel gezeur was er duidelijk geen ruimte voor zelfreflectie

Erg moeilijk te volgen, komt ook door het oude taalgebruik. Wel vind ik dat er een aantal hele mooie passages in staan. Het boek is doordrenkt met emotie, wat ik wel heel mooi vind.

Het begin kon me weinig bekoren, maar richting de dood van Julia werd ik gegrepen. Het beeld van Eduard die een gotisch kasteeltje betrekt nabij Julia’s graf en alvast zijn eigen graf uithakt in een eikenboom is zowel roerend als lachwekkend. Hopelijk heeft iemand Eduards graf ‘beweend’, zoals zijn laatste wens was.

'Gedweep - het boek'
Ik ben nog nooit een beter voorbeeld van gekwijn tegengekomen in de Nederlandse literatuur. Maar dat is ook weer niet echt een compliment. Alleen als je net zoals ik een onverklaarbaar genoegen put uit oeverloos gezwijmel kan ik het aanraden.

Het feit dat ik normaal een maand met een boek doe en hier na 3 dagen ineens het nawoord tegenkwam zegt denk ik wel genoeg.
Eigenlijk heb ik bijna geen ervaring met romans, maar dit boek greep me gek genoeg vrijwel direct.
Misschien door de geweldige hertaling?:)
