Wow?????? Now that's some fruity, twisty end and I liked it. It was good but it could be better. The author described Carol so beautifully that I wished this effort would be used on the whole story too. I expected Jerry to continue to be present in that pseudo-world and he actually was! Mawson (loved his name btw) was some smart man. But I'm more surprised that Jerry noticed and played with him. Like how?? A second wow. I wish this fictional world with its characters' personalities and backgrounds were more developed.
Mediocre sci-fi story where the subject of a psychological experiment takes over a room equipped with an 'electronic duplicator' - something like a cross between a VR helmet, a 3D printer and an incinerator.
The subject turns paranoid and a zoologist(?) enters the room to stop him. A conflict of imaginations ensues in which the megalomaniac always appears in brass buttons.
First appeared in the Dec 1963 edition of Worlds of Tomorrow, which also featured a Philip K. Dick story.
