Note: this was written as a bonus story for the Ogres and other Dating Dilemmas Kickstarter. As a result it's only available direct from the author.

Since the collapse, head archer Vlash has survived by being what everyone else needed. He rallied the elves, protected the king, raised his son, and tried not to feel the loss of his wife and daughter. But now his son is an adult, according to human law, and no longer needs him.

The king and the other city rulers are stepping down, so the army is no longer needed. He is a relic of another world. A reminder of a past that the mytho youth don’t remember. At the wedding of the knights, he keenly feels the loss of who he was and the life he’d once had. At two hundred and sixty-six, he’s too young to be this bitter. So, when a human dances with him and looks at him without the deference or fear he is used to seeing, he seizes the opportunity.

While it’s only been a couple of weeks since Mason ended his engagement, and he had no plans of hooking up with anyone at the wedding, he has never been able to resist a man in uniform. Elves in their leather and knives are far too tempting.

One night becomes once a week, then twice a week, and…

Weddings and other One-night Stands has a grumpy elf who hasn’t been with anyone since the collapse and a human who thinks that he’s never going to find anyone who wants him as is. Together, they discover that broken hearts can heal and that one night can lead to finding the one.

Weddings and Other One-Night Stands is a novella set in the world of T.J. Nichols’ wonderful Mytho series. I absolutely love this series and have been thrilled that while the main storyline is complete for Jordan and Edra, the author has been writing additional stories for some of the side characters. Vlash has been a prominent figure throughout the main series, as one of the Mytho leaders, and Mason has also appeared as a friend of Jordan’s. While this is the first book focusing on them as a couple, I think being familiar with the world building from at least some of the Mytho series will help with following along here.

I am such a fan of this series, I would read pretty much anything Nichols chooses to write about it. It looks like there is at least one more book coming (this one a prequel of sorts, it seems) and I am all in for it.

Weddings and other One-Night Stands was a great addition to the series, settling that niggling wonder of whatever happened to Mason and that anti-Mytho jerk, Bud. While I loved seeing more of Mason, I really loved getting to see Vlash step out of his comfort zone and start to love again.

Mason recently broke off his engagement to Bud – finally! – and is feeling his age. At 35, he feels old, unfit and unattractive...until he meets Vlash at Jordan and Edra's wedding.
Vlash is getting frustrated by his life, and his way of living. With his son moving on, being more human than elf, and dating Jordan's sister Katie, he feels like he's being left behind. Add in the fact that the King and the archers aren't as important to the Mytho anymore, he feels old and unwanted...until he meets Mason at the wedding and is desired rather than feared.
Together, they make a gorgeous couple, and I'm surprised by how well they fit together. Mason has spent years under Bud's thumb, always giving into what he wants because Bud never cared to hear or understand what Mason wanted. On the flip side, Vlash has been in control for a long time – maybe too long – and he's finally seeing the joy that can be found if he just lets go and enjoys his life again.

The story picks up at the wedding, and it's quite short, but it ends with a lovely HFN that hints at a HEA, and I loved every moment of it. I loved how well Mason and Vlash fit together. I loved Vlash and Lekso arguing and finding a middle ground. I loved the confrontation with Bud and Mason finally getting to talk and be heard. Everything about it had such a cute, and hopeful, message of taking chances and trusting your instincts. I couldn't have asked for more.

“Mason had thought his ability to hookup was rusty. If his was rusty, Vlash's was fossilized.”

“Somehow, Mason had slipped beneath his guard, shoved a blade between his ribs, and now it was lodged in his heart.”

Weddings and Other One-night Stands is set in the same world as the Mytho series and concerns Mason, human dentist and good friend to Jordan from the series, and Vlash, a mytho elf and head archer to the king.

Mason has kicked his relationship with Bud into touch and needs a hook-up to prove something to himself. The knights Jordan and Edra’s wedding might just be the place. All the elves in their leather uniforms are just too good an opportunity to ignore. The one thing he is not looking for is anything serious. The thing is elves are all about serious even if they don’t do long term when it comes to humans. Everything about humans is short term, including their life expectancy. He attracts Vlash’s attention and there is no escape from then on.

Vlash is an important character from the Mytho series. He is a widower and has not ‘been’ with anyone in ten years. Keeping mythos safe and bringing up his teenage son have been enough until it isn’t. With the changes happening Vlash feels unsettled. Maybe a hook-up is what he needs and who better than a cute human.

This is a great addition to the Mytho series and gives a welcome insight into elven society and the pressures on the young ones to conform in a vastly different world to their parents. The growing relationship between the two reluctant heroes is treated with respect and patience as befits the two guys.

Absolutely delightful. Vlash is one of the most lonely and mysterious characters in the series. He doesn't have friends and every interaction with him was more of a bartering than anything else.
In this novella Vlash opens up as a lonely person with deep feelings and a need to be liked and wanted without strings attached.
Mason is just a right human to see something more in him than a scary warrior since he doesn't know who Vlash is and that triggers curiosity in Vlash and desire to have something for one night that he won't get from other mythos due to his status and powers.
What was a one-night deal became something more and turned into a tentative sexual affair which become a relationship.
I loved the story and would like some more stories set in this world.

Loved this book - it was a short novella but such a great story! Mason and Vlash were such a fantastic couple and I really enjoyed their dynamic. A touch of hurt/hurt as Vlash is this stoic head archer who hasn't opened to anyone since his wife away passed and Mason is still reeling from his breakup with Bud. Both are tending to one another in a way and finding something for themselves in the process.

Can't wait to see more from this series. Looking forward to Pan’s story and maybe Jake!

Already in love with the Mytho universe, and loved Mason and Vlash's get together story. Enjoyed seeing another perspective and insight into Elven culture and expectations.

The ending felt a tiny bit quick, I didn't like this as much as the series or last book but it was still good.

I listened to the audiobook.

I LOVED IT! Honestly my only complain is that it wasn't a full-length novel because I adored what I got and I wanted so much more-more time with Mason and Vlash!
