I love paranormal cozies, and I read the first book in this series and really liked it. Of course, that meant I had to read this second book in the series. I loved this second book! Now that I have gotten to know the characters, I loved seeing them all again. Poor Sklyar isn’t having any luck in the love department, but she sure is at solving mysteries; she has so much fun with Jen and Herb. I wish they’d show a little more of the witch side, but really with witch-hunters around, Skylar must stay on the down low. While this isn’t exactly a long, complicated book, this is a well-written amusing adventure with fun, engaging characters. I look forward to seeing them again in the next installment. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
Skylar is still embracing her witchiness and learning new spells but not fast enough! And as if having to solve a murder and avoid her ex husband isn't bad enough, she is now being hunted by something supernatural. Good thing her familiar Wolfie by her side. Lots of twists and turns. This can be read as a standalone since there are no cliffhangers. I am looking forward to the next book in the series which hopefully will have more Wolfie snark.
The second in the series and as delightful as the first. A witch whose trying to hide her witchiness, a wolf familiar, and a murder. Throw in witch hunters and the fun ensues. A very enjoyable series. I received a free reader's copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Wedding registrars Skylar and Jen are back to the castle for a wedding. The wedding planner seems to be a handful and harsh. Organizing a huge wedding brings wedding drama, but, all does not go smoothly. Someone has tried to kill Anna and in self defense, the attacker winds up falling out the window and dies. Who would want to kill the wedding planner? With so many guests, Jen and Skylar find themselves trying to answer that question. The suspect list surprisingly is not all that big. The issue is, who was the attacker and what was the motive? Anna winds up being murdered and found floating in the water. People are not who they seem and the suspects all have a deep hidden past. Skylar is a non practicing witch. She is actually hiding from witch hunters and with the aid of her familiar Wolfie is a non stop worry for her. So many clues leading them to even more clues with many discoveries with very few answers. Will they discover who is behind the murder of Anna? Ms. Colby has created a whirlwind of intrigue and mystery to the wonderful journey of Skylars.
Who knew officiating a wedding could be murder? Fortunately, our plucky heroine, Skye was not the victim nor the suspect. She could not, however, stay away from the investigation. Skye with Wolfe by her side and her helpful sidekicks got caught up which caused no end of problems with her remarried ex leading the investigation. I love how quirky this whole thing is. A wedding officiate, even if a witch, is not someone you normally see investigating a murder. The absolute funniest scene was when she thought she could trap the hitman and end up with fish heads. Hysterical. The new "boyfriend" was a bit of cardboard cutout character but I think that was the point. If Leo is to be the leading man going forward, I think we need a hint that it is OK to ship them.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I am going back to read book 1 and will anxiously await book 3. I recommend this book for its uniqueness and its quirky fun. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This book had me gripped the whole time. I am really enjoying this author's works, and the small coastal fishing town of Tidewater. Skye and Wolfie are a great team, with Wolfie continuing to be the best protector and familiar. Skye's dating forays were interesting, and I liked how that arc concluded in this book. I wish we had a little bit more of Skye using her magic and doing more spells from Herb's grandmother's grimoire, because the little tastes we've had so far are very well thought out and executed. I wonder if Herb or Jen will realize that Skye is really a witch in a future book.
The mystery was well-planned and logical as well, and it kept me engaged and guessing until the end. I like how weddings always get all mixed up in the murders, it's a fun way to tell a cozy mystery story. I will be picking up book 3 immediately.
I read this on Kindle Unlimited and used Alexa text to speech for audio.
So I’ll start by saying I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is a great book & I think ok I know I need Wolfie in my life.
Wolfie holds Skyler together. It was great getting a quick glimpse of what she was being protected from - which we weren’t privy to in Book 1 - we knew who but not more than “Witch Hunters”
These styles of cozy’s are actually my favorite. A strong and independent woman main character, who isn’t perfect, has typical flaws, and still does what she knows she has to even if it costs her something because it’s the right thing to do. We need these books that make us laugh, smile, and even get angry with the lack of justice.
Book 3 looks like it’s being released in May and I’m definitely grabbing it because it is just a really enjoyable read.
Skye and Jen are registrars who are attending a society wedding as part of their jobs. During the final minutes before the wedding, the wedding planner is attacked. The planner is shaken but the attacker is dead. Who was this man and why did he attack the planner? Skye is determined to figure things out with the help of her pet, Wolfie. Can she figure things out especially after another death? Very well written with some interesting characters. Well paced so you want to just keep on reading. Some light supernatural mixed in if you are a fan too. I loved the book and will definitely be reading more by this author!
This was a great read. I love that Wolfie! He could come live with me in a heartbeat. Skye is growing on me. I still like the supporting characters a bit more than her but this book has upped the ante in her favor. This storyline really mixed it up. Had so many things going on at the same time that it looked like half the suspects were all guilty. I was actually surprised at the end! What a great storyline this book had going. Enjoyed it thoroughly. Wolfie gets to do his job protecting his witch. Had a bit more magic this round and some close calls with witch hunters. It all worked out. Hope you enjoy this as much as I did. Kathy
Once again, a death occurs during a wedding Skye, Jen and Herb are working at the castle. This time, a hitman tried to kill the wedding planner and ended up being pushed out the window and falling to his death. The thing I love about this series so far, is the relationship between Skye and her friends and yes, even her ex, and how they’re all coming together to solve the mystery of who hired the hitman. These stories all have humor, danger and I adore Wolfie! Or should I say Prince Killian of Pendragon’s Rock?
nothing like a few witch hunters and a bit of murder to keep the blood humming!
of course, Wolfie has cried Hunter so often - is he losing his touch? some residual magic from the castle causing confusion?
intersections between multiple bad times from folks pasts and presents leaves a dead body and a bruised body behind after a wedding
can one witch and her much beloved Wolfie the not really a wolf hound manage the mysteries and the threats, or could more death and worse than death be ahead?
intense humor, drama and paranormal and family dynamics action
Loved this book! I read the first book in the series and fell in love with Wolfie. But now, I love everyone. The whole cast is endearing and the story was interesting. The mystery brings you along with it, so you are discovering the answers with Skye, rather than trying to guess the story ahead of her. Overall, well well-written and enjoyable. I will be back for the next book!
I received this book for free but the opinions are fully mine. I would have the same review had I bought it myself.
This was a twisted path to the truth, and I enjoyed every minute of it. It kept me guessing and reading. The Wolfie and Skye duo were amazing to watch in action sleuthing the clues and evading or dispatching the hunters. It was suspenseful and exciting at the same time and had my adrenaline flowing. I would have never solved this because it was so interwoven with the storyline. Excellent job. I voluntarily read a free copy provided by book sirens and am giving an honest opinion.
Jen and Skye along with Skye's Wolf protector are again trying to find out what is going on with the wedding they are to officiate. Skye being the daughter of a warlock and a witch needs to be protected from hunters, that is Wolfie's job. Leo Skye's ex is back on the case with them as he is a detective for the police. Who tried to strangle Anna the wedding planner and can they find out in time to stop another murder.
Love this series! You can't help but love the snarkiness and to have a wolf as a familiar - it's fantastic. Another murder for Skye to be dragged into, a hitman at a wedding, witch hunters to hide from - all kinds of crazy stuff going on. I laughed out loud in a couple of places. I would definitely recommend this series even though there are only two books so far! You won't be disappointed.
I loved the chaos of magic, murder and a wolf familiar...oh my! I also really enjoyed that I didn't know who was the killer until the end, it's rare that happens. I enjoyed reading this story and can't wait for the next one!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I enjoy reading this series, the storyline is entertaining and the characters are very well written. I can't wait to read more from this author. I received this book as a Free ARC copy to read and I voluntarily leave this review.
A dead man at a wedding. Skylar tries hard not to investigate but she fails. This is such a sweet, fun and cozy read. I love Wolfie. I can recommend this book and I’m looking forward to the next story.
I received an advance review copy for free and I’m leaving a voluntary and honest review.
I'm voluntarily leaving a review after receiving a free copy. Skylar solves the case despite being told not to by her ex. Unfortunately witch hunters are looking for her and Wolfie has to keep her safe. I liked how she solved the case.
I enjoyed reading this story it was fun. Registering weddings and births and being a witch is a lot. Trying to not do magic so she does not attract hunters and solving murder is all in a days work.
Skylar Blackwood, wedding witch, and her friends are investigating a death at the recent wedding they were officiating. The wedding planner was attacked by hitman at the wedding site. He botched the job and fell out the window, plummeting to his death. Later the job was finished by someone else, as the wedding planner was found dead offsite. The team of amateur sleuths can’t leave it alone and have to find out who hired a hitman and how the wedding planner died after the hitman was dead. This was a fun, quick read. I love Skylar’s friends and her big dog, Wolfie.
Another amazing paranormal cozy mystery by Bella Colby! Loved that I had no idea who the killer was. Also, so happy to get more of Syke and Leo's backstory in this book. Definitely looking forward to get more details as the series progresses.
I do like my cosy mysteries but I’m also a fan of witchy fiction, so Perfect Day Pocus is ideal for me.
The characters are well-drawn, the sleuthing is authentic, and there’s a sense of a real, breathing community here with all the normal relationship challenges.
I didn’t guess ‘whodunnit’ which is always a delight, and there’s a wolf with attitude in the novel too – marvellous stuff.
Excellently written & it’s an interesting storyline, I would read more books in this series. If it was a bit more fast paced I would have given 5 stars.
