This version is set in a futuristic dystopia in which Beowulf (a mercenary who must be sustained/restored by a technological cocoon) admits to having killed his former employee, Herod (Heorot) is a skyscraper with elevators, and Hrothgar is a less-than-forthcoming leader of the world. Beowulf tears off Grendel's arm, but Grendel also tears off Beowulf arm, and Beowulf somehow attaches Grendel's arm to himself. Grendel is the demon-son of Hrothgar and a woman-monster who initially looks a lot like Angelina Jolie in the 2007 movie. No third act (dragon). Beowulf barely escapes a conniving Hrothgar in the end.
