Ex-police officer Rileigh Bishop thought she was done with her aunt after the old woman was committed to a psychiatric hospital for attacking Rileigh with a chainsaw.

She was wrong.

The elderly women inside the hospital are disappearing. And when they are finally found, they have been horrifically murdered.

Eaten by rats.
Decapitated.
Left on a grave holding a single red rose.

And now someone else has gone missing. Someone who’s more important than they seem. Once again, Rileigh must team up with Sheriff Webster to find the killer. Only this time, the killer knows Rileigh’s coming.

And they’ve got plans for her.

You need to read this whole series. Rileigh Bishop is a soldier and former police officer who has returned home to the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee.

Elderly women are disappearing from the psychiatric facility where her aunt has been committed for trying to kill her with a chainsaw. Her aunt keeps contacting her sister and drawing her and Rileigh out to Carrington House.

The missing women have been killed and displayed in ways that mimic known serial killers' scenes. Rileigh teams up with Sheriff Webster to try and stop the killer before more women disappear. But the killer has plans for Rileigh.

Lauren Street does it again with Closer by the Hour, delivering a story that is as compelling and unputdownable as the first two installments in the Rileigh Bishop series. From the first page, the intrigue pulls you in, and the twists and turns keep you hooked until the very end.

The storyline for Rileigh is as fascinating as ever, with her taking on another dark, twisted case that perfectly showcases her resilience and sharp mind. The plot, centered around a creepy hospital, is exactly the kind of atmospheric setting that makes for a gripping read. While I did find the culprit fairly obvious early on, the journey to uncover the full story was so engrossing that it didn't detract from the experience.

Street's characters shine once again. Rileigh continues to impress as a protagonist who refuses to let her past define her, even going so far as to be civil with someone who once tried to kill her—all for the sake of her mother. It's this strength and complexity that make her such a standout lead.

As a fan of the series, I absolutely love everything about it—Rileigh’s character development, the intricate cases, and the edge-of-your-seat pacing. I can't wait to dive into the next book! If you're a fan of gripping thrillers with smart, layered protagonists, this series is a must-read.

Thank you Netgalley, Sterling and Stone & Lauren Street for the arc.

REVIEW
Thanks to Netgalley and the Publisher for this ARC. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Wow! I sincerely hope these murders didn't happen in real life, especially the rat murder, it was savage! I liked the suspense, it had the perfect building up and ending. By the time I reached the end, I was able to understand how the murders made sense, and I liked it.
🕵🏼‍♀️👮🏼‍♂️
I liked the team of Rileigh and Mitch, but I felt like they were too slow, like they were waiting for another victim before they did any crime solving. The actual solving occurred at the last few pages, so I was kinda annoyed. Regardless, I was still involved in the book because of the dynamics between Rileigh and her mother & Rileigh and her aunt Daisy. It was very dramatic and engaging.
👮🏼‍♂️🕵🏼‍♀️
This book was very good and will leave you wanting to know what next with Rileigh. I liked the characters, storyline but it was not that thrilling. But, I'd definitely recommend it. So, go and read it, but it's savage!

The Bishop Smoky Mountain Thrillers:
Closer By The Hour, #3 - Rather intriguing and a bit gory, but not graphically detailed, and definitely difficult to put down, the interesting, well written story lines and good characters made for an immersing, entertaining read. A good pace, terrible crimes and poor ole Rileigh getting herself into plenty of "Oh, snap" situations. Some humor, and Lily and Daisy are hoots. A little predictable but well worth reading. Now, a little bit of editing .... Source: BookSprout. 5*

BECAUSE ONE OF US WAS WRONG, Novella - This is a funny, interesting, intriguing and entertaining introduction to the Bishop Smokey Mountains series. Likeable characters, crimes like crazy, good story lines, and good humor. A must read first. Basic editing would have been nice. Source: Download through Hide Me Away, book one of the series. 5*

HIDE ME AWAY, #1 - Interesting. Intriguing. Good pacing. Hard to put down with all the happenings, the variety of characters, and some intense story lines. It was easy to figure out the murders, even with all the suspects. Good team work between the acting sheriff and the veteran in solving the crimes. I like the writing style of the author. Basic editing would have been nice. Source: the author. 5*

FUEL TO THE FLAME, #2 - This story picks up four months after Hide Me Away ends. I'm not sure why the author though it was important to rehash HMA in the first four chapters, and others, which made it difficult for me to keep reading since I read HMA. The story kicks into gear and turns out full of gory but not graphic crimes, mixed with more crimes and plenty of action. Thar's a bit of crazy going on in those mountains. Intense story lines. Basic editing would have been nice. Source: BookSprout. 4*

Closer by The Hour follows our main character Rileigh Bishop, who is an ex-police officer living in Gatlinburg with her mom. Her aunt who previously tried to kill her, is in a psychiatric ward where elderly women start to go missing. I thought Rileigh was overall a fun character, but man she was making questionable decisions throughout the book, which took away from my enjoyment of her as a character. Mitch on the other hand I thought was a great character and found myself wishing more of the book was written from his perspective. My overall impression was that this book needed another 50 pages to flesh out the plot. It felt like it was the bare bones of a novel not a completed one.
I felt like the best part of the book was the first chapter, and it is definitely going to be sticking with me for a long time. Unfortunately, the rest of the book is very inconsistent, to the point of distraction. There was this side plot, that after the climax just really didn’t fit in with the rest of the story. I wish there had been more time used on the climax. The build up in tension leading into the climax was another area where the book shined, unfortunately with how abrupt the climax ended up being it made the buildup feel unnecessarily long, and I was left wanting. I just ended up feeling disappointed with the ending all together, which has had a negative impact on my feelings towards the books as a whole.

Releigh Bishop is irritated when crazy Aunt Daisy upsets her Mom with a call claiming one of her roommates from the Carrington House has been kidnapped. Another conjured story? She hasn’t seen Daisy since she tried to cut her head off with a chainsaw. Yes, that is how Daisy landed herself as a resident of North Tennessee Psychiatric hospital’s crimanally insane unit.
Trying to relieve her Mom from rescuing Daisy yet again, Releigh assures her she will take the drive to Carrington House and figure out what it is this time. Seeing as Reileigh is a freelance Private Investigator, her mother is comforted that she’ll know what to look for.
Abducted by an Angel that wasn’t taking her to heaven…at least that’s what Daisy insists happened to Rosie. Releigh accepts that she’ll need to locate where Rosie is to calm Daisy down.
She discovers that Rosie has truly gone missing. Which now involves Mitch, the sheriff who has rescued Releigh twice in the past.
What they discover, well you’ve got psych patients, a new guy running the hospital with questionable staff, an old creepy hospital building, multiple patients go missing and, you’ll need to read the book to see what unfolds.

Definitely have to say that I lost track of time reading this one, so much so that I found ways to multitask during the day to keep reading.

A third part in a series about Rileigh Bishop, an ex-cop who returned to her hometown and cares for her demented mother. Her aunt is in a mental institution after trying to kill her.
After an alarming phone call from her aunt that a fellow prisoner has been kidnapped by an angel, Rileigh goes to see what is going on. The new director is an attractive man who does not know what has happened and starts a search together with Rileigh. When the old woman is not found, they call in Sherrif Mitchell Webster.

A well-constructed story follows with gruesome discoveries and 3 murders. Rileigh becomes even more involved when a head of a missing woman (now clearly deceased) is sent to her house.
I knew who the perpetrator was before the denouement followed, but still a great story.
I'm really curious about previous parts that are referenced throughout the story. You can read this part separately from other parts.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Rileigh's story continues, and it's well written in a way that brings forth all the ups and downs of her life. My, she is SO unluckily lucky! She actually stares death in the face at the hands of an unhinged person again, and this time it's even more dramatic, even though serendipitous circumstances ultimately bring her back for living another day.

I like how evocative the author's words are - the descriptions place you in the middle of the scenes, and the narrative bring all the feelings to the fore. The events in this book are describing the horrific ways of serial killers, and the profound impact they have on everybody even remotely connected, not to mention the professionals meant to solve the mystery and bring monsters to justice.

I hope the next book is the one where Rileigh and Mitch find some happiness at last - or will they, maybe, finally break under the burden?

Closer By The Hour. Riveting book. Rileigh, Mitch and Lily are hot on the hills of a killer like no other. I was in aww of how fast pace the characters moved with the plot. The book was just amazing.
The writing was both appealing and engaging with the reader. The severity of lives on the line was huge for the actions that the characters took to find answers and possible victims. The details actions described by the writer was a huge surprise of, oh my God, did I just read that? The whole psychological aspect was super intense and amazing. The book for me was un-put down-able. For me this was a crazy good book. I give this book two snaps and a, oh hell know you just toss me into the ground without repercussions. Have you met my Aunt Crazy Daisy? Until next time my fellow readers. Read on! #CloserBytheHour #laurenstreet #netgally #goodreads #bookbub

Closer by the Hour is the third book in The Bishop Smoky Mountain Thriller series by Lauren Street.

I did attempt to read book 1 in the series, but I couldn't get into that book. Closer By The Hour was much better. It sure was a cringeworthy way to die at the beginning of the book, which set the mood of the story.

I really liked the Mitch character, and Rileigh is a good, strong female protagonist. Closer By The Hour is a domestic psychological thriller that mixes secrets and lies. It wasn't as page-turning as I thought it would be since the beginning was quite strong, but overall, it was a pleasant weekend read that held my interest.

I may check out more books by this author.

This book started on a high notes with a terrifying murder scene. I wish we got to see the second murder the same way, but you don’t see it on the page. After that it takes awhile to pick back up. I noticed it was the 3rd book in the series half way through, I might have liked it better if I read the first two and had more attachment to the characters. One of the reasons I rated it so low is because the author perpetuates harmful ableist stereotypes of Dissociative Identity Disorder. People with multiple personalities do not have a killer/murder alter. The killer was so predictable and the ending wrapped up too quickly. I also found 6 different typos, hopefully it gets edited again before the publishing date.

Another great one from Lauren Street! I love a good small town mystery/thriller, and she never disappoints. I’ve really enjoyed watching the relationship form between Rileigh and Mitch. It’s starting to get interesting, and I think us fans may get what we want in the next one! As far as this story, I knew who the killer was pretty early on. I was so bummed out though, because I really didn’t want it to be them. In the end, it works out for the better because of *things*!

Huge thanks to Sterling & Stone and NetGalley for sending me this ARC for review! All of my reviews are given honestly!

Book three in the Rileigh Bishop series – Thinking her tumultuous ties with her aunt had reached an end following the older woman's institutionalization, Rileigh is pulled back into the darkness when elderly women start disappearing from the psychiatric hospital. Rileigh teams up with Sheriff Mitch Webster to find the killer – a killer who knows Rileigh is coming, adding an intriguing cat and mouse element. This is a chilling and twisted mystery that transcends the boundaries of sanity and explores the dark corners of the human psyche.

Thank you to NetGalley, Sterling & Stone and author Lauren Street for the opportunity to review the advance copy of this book.

Mistakes aplenty…but read it anyway

This is book 3 in the series and like the first two, it has lots of mistakes. I really wish a proofreader had caught them all. It would make reading the story more enjoyable. There was also a big continuity issue- Rileigh drank lemonade when she swore it off after book 1 and switched to sweet tea. There was also a part where a character knew the victim even though they hadn’t been told yet. I am invested in these characters and will continue reading the books, but I really wish someone would do a better job of proofreading before publishing!

Thank you Lauren Street and NetGalley for the eARC!

This is the third novel in the Bishop Smoky Mountain Thrillers series, and unfortunately my least favorite so far. That’s not to say it wasn’t a good book, it just didn’t capture my interest as much as the first two in this series.

For me, I felt like the thriller type tension didn’t really happen until the last few chapters of the book. I enjoy this series as the novels are typically a quick read and tend to draw you in pretty quickly, but I found myself not wanting to pick this one up and read it as much as I had done with the previous two.

Even though it wasn’t my favorite, I still plan to continue on reading this series!

Rileigh's aunt Daisy is living in a facility for the criminally insane. She claims her 'sisters' are taken by an angel. Rileigh starts to investigate when she hears the women really disappeared. This is again a thrilling, easy to read story. The things Rileigh has to go through again and she is already a bit troubled. I can really recommend this series.

Great

Great story and it kept me on my toes. The situation with her mother and aunt is so odd. I'm constantly wanting there to be more between her and Mitch and always have to keep guessing. Which I won't give you answers to. I do have to say the first part of the book was on the edge of what I could take. I don't think I will forget this book for a while. Looking forward to book 4, which there is one to come. Yup!

Ex-police officer Rileigh Bishop is now a free lance PI, living with her Mother and still dealing with memories of her crazy aunt who tried to kill her. The same aunt who is in a psychiatric hospital and is claiming patients are going missing. The book opens with an edge of your seat gruesome murder. The rest of the book was at a slower pace, but not enough to make me stop reading to its suspenseful end. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book from Netgalley and Sterling and Stone. The comments are my honest opinion.

I really tried with this series

I got this far in the series before giving up. It just needs too much editing. There are misspelled words, incomplete sentences, incorrect word choices - it's too distracting to even focus on the story. Which is decent, all the more of a shame. Get a good editor!! These could be so much better.

A big thank you to NetGalley and Sterling and Stone for the eARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is part of a series, I believe this is t #3. I still do not quite know what Rileigh's job is? I have to say her family is just plain crazy! This was an intense, convoluted mystery. 3.5 stars I would read more by this author.

Amazing!

I have read at least a million books, but none quite like the books in this series. Each has a compelling story that is mind gripping, but with humor thrown in that makes you relax your tense muscles. I chuckle every time...then chuckle again when I realize how caught up I waa in the storyline. Fascinating!

Really good plot although I felt like Brandon was an issue right away. Maybe if he hadn't been so perfect or something. I'm not sure what it was but the storyline was excellent. Waiting for number four.

Litterally sucked in from the start of this boom. I couldn't look away from this book. Definitely has kept me wanting to know more. Also, you'd thi k by now Rileigh would learn her lesson but no which predictable yes but also me wanting to know what she got herself into now. I wish she'd just get hired on already. She deserves some type if compensation for her trouble.
