“The turn in time has begun.” Thank you to author Luke Lively and Vulpine Press for this free early ecopy. “Tempest”(The Family #1) by Luke Lively. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Genre: SciFi. Location: Earth. Time: 2030. Trigger Warning: Sexual abuse of women.
PROLOGUE: In 2028, Dr. Marc Walker discovers the cure for cancer. His genetic research also uncovers what he names ‘Axis Mundi’ hidden in our DNA. It’s our ancestors’ code to our origins, what we are, where we’re headed. The shocking revelations cause hysterical resistance in organized religion and UFO believers. Marc, his twin brother Jon (decorated war hero who doesn’t sleep-ever), Alana (24, US Olympic athlete), and Aaron (38, assassin for The Order-secret government group) may be the only defense against a final threat to humanity-its creator.
THIS BOOK: Marc is threatened, Jon is accused of abducting his son, Alana is framed for murder, Aaron kills and then finds love. All 4 are either geniuses or have powerful special gifts. All 4 are abducted by evil General Mason’s soldiers, and brought as captives to a secret facility. As they realize who is trying to end human life and colonize Earth, they struggle in different ways to defeat the powerful forces. And each struggles to decide if humanity is worth saving.
Author Lively’s book ranges from alien space overseers, Native American and Hawaiian mysticism/mythology, alien visits to Earth, species as slaves, universal racism, survival, and hunter vs hunted action scenes. His point of view alternates between the 4 main characters as they learn the world is not as they know it. Lively has written an action-filled book that’s heavy on violence, including sexual violence, and full of fight scenes. Amidst all this are thoughtful discussions of humanity, boundaries, and reminders of our past. It’s a good fit for the alien invasion sub-genre reader. I usually prefer the silly space opera sub-genre, but this definitely kept my attention so it’s 4 stars from me🌵📚💁🏼♀️ Publishes December 12, 2023.
On a recommendation I saw online, I took a chance and bought this. I did not regret it! It is the first in a trilogy, something I definitely look forward to the upcoming books. Incredibly imaginative, unique story and wonderfully told. Lots of action, violence, some possibly triggering scenes for the tame of heart, but for me it was an absolute page turner! Barely hidden below the surface of the intriguing story is a much deeper reveal of what we as humans may appear to others. I loved this book and feel enriched for reading it, even though it is a near future fantasy, science fiction, and even horror mixed genres book. Check this out if you enjoy the type of twisting apocalyptic stories that serves as an escape and something that will make you think, "Could this really happen?" After reading Tempest, it seems incredibly believable. I'm going to go back and read it again soon.
