Updated Review 6/27/24: Wow! I forgot how much there is to unpack in this volume!!

We really see into Hananoi's backstory and why he made the decisions he has when it came to pass relationships. It is completely heartbreaking, but Hotaru and her love for Hananoi are so strong!

Though I feel maybe that's not the right word because this isn't some kind of cliche of "love is blind" because she DOES see and know exactly what happened between Hananoi and his ex. And she's not just blowing it off but instead is acknowledging and addressing it.

I remember deeply loving the conversation the first time I read this volume and it's still true now because I can't help but admire her. Everyone else had given up on him and his intensity, but Hotaru saw HIM for who he is and wants to help ease his anxiety. That speaks so much of her character that she would even be willing to find a "solution" and that they can work it out and move forward. You go, girl!

Absolutely loved this volume and was really happy our side couple had some spotlight! Also, Yao really going above and beyond for his coworker was super touching!

I have SO many feelings and things I want to talk about with this volume!

First, I was surprised by how emotional this volume was and how at numerous points I was tearing up! Usually, that is because of Hananoi, but this time (or at least in the beginning) it was because of Hotaru. Oh my goodness, her voicing her struggles and how she was feeling as well as her wrestling with lack of self-confidence made me want to start crying!! HOTARUUUU!!!

It was wonderful to see Hananoi encourage HER this time rather than the other way around! I absolutely love what he tells her in that she has been "working" on herself and changing. It may not be in the form of her outwardly looking more beautiful such as wearing more fashionable clothes or makeup, but that doesn't mean she isn't changing and growing as a person. Hananoi loves how cute she is, sure, but he deeply loves her and her heart. THANK YOU HANANOI!!

I've noticed with the recent volumes we've been getting more and more of Hananoi's backstory, with this volume being no exception. I'm unsure of what to fully share here because of spoilers, but I LOVE how when Hotaru finds out all the "creepy" things Hananoi has done, she doesn't turn away from him and berate him for his anxiety in past relationships. Instead, she soundly tells him she wants to help that anxiety ease in a certain way, and he is so shocked! Hotaru just heard all the unhinged things he has done and how he would date whoever, but as the volume goes on we see so much more of Hananoi's heart and why he did those things. If it ever seemed like an act in how he feels for Hotaru (which I have NEVER felt, but if someone did feel that way LOL), this volume showed that his feelings are deeply genuine and that he cares deeply for her.

I don't remember which volume it was, but I was super upset with Yao-kun before now, he really redeemed himself in this volume! I was quite pleased with his actions and how he realizes that even if he loves Hotaru, he states he is NOT going to interfere with her and Hananoi's relationship. Why aren't there more guys like that?! It definitely showed a new side of him, especially with how kind and good of a friend he was to a certain character. Hoping we actually see more of that in future volumes!

Eagerly look forward to seeing what happens next because just when I think I can't love this series more, I always do!

~hozumi sensei still killing it. and i feel the dad is going to be added to that list very soon(/▿＼ )

~highkey kinda felt it when satomi's idol announced he was getting married and she fell into her depression lol. her closure was funny and the fact that hananoi begrudgingly goes with it.

~yao's unknowing smooth compliments are jokes. we love a boy that knows his feelings.

~yui's complaints about hananoi are valid and i can't believe the author just let them slide. guess i did by the next chapter too though. his face really makes up for his faults.

The development that Hotaru and Hananoi get with each volume is so sweet. They both realize they are not perfect individuals and are both helping each other grow into the best version of themselves, which won't just benefit them but also the people around them. I am also glad that this volume focused a lot on the side characters and developed them more so the readers could understand them a bit better.

This was another really enjoyable volume for the series and I enjoyed the chapter with them going to the pool. I am really looking forward to reading the next volume with how this one left off.

No se si me ha acabado de gustar o no 😅

Osea entiendo el comportamiento de Hananoi debido a su pasado pero que se normalicen ciertas red flags muy heavys (como la app para saber donde está el otro) me parece muy fuerte.

Y me da pena porque parece que él iba mejorando y entre ellos hablan mucho las cosas y eso está super bien, pero no quita que sea un tóxico y que la ex tubiera razón 😂

It's nice to see more of Hananoi and learn more about why he acts the way he does. He's really super sweet... to Hotaru at least. He's pretty menacing towards everyone else. I'm still unsure of how I actually feel about things. One minute he'll be okay, and the next he says or does something that sends up lots of red flags. So, we'll see how this series continues to progress.

I'm thinking that I want to go back through and re-read this whole series. I read the first few so fast, and then I waited to read the last two volumes, and I also read them out of order. Maybe that will help me figure out MY feelings on the whole thing.

I will say, that I do prefer Hananoi with longer hair and glasses.

Ya no sé si de verdad se trata de mi estado de ánimo o qué, pero este manga me ha encantado. Creyendo yo que por mi edad esta clase de historias escolares ya no me estaban atrayendo tanto, resulta que no era del todo cierto. Este manga tiene una historia sencilla con los clásicos clichés de los shojos escolares, pero la manera en que la autora decidió presentarlos es lo que me enganchó. Si bien al principio pensé que era un "insta-love" común, resultó no ser así y la historia de trasfondo me conquistó. La pareja protagonista es bien bonita y la forma en que la autora va desarrollando su historia de primer amor, al mismo tiempo que aborda los traumas de ambos, es dulce y encantadora. Me pareció que este manga es de esas joyitas escondias de las que casi nadie habla y de las que no se verá a todo mundo recomendando, pero la encontré por casualidad y veamos que me pareció lindísima. El único pero que le encuentro es que aún no está finalizada y debo continuarla mensualmente.🥲

You know, the more I read about Hananoi and the more character development I witness, I end up really feeling for him. Poor guy, with all that anxiety and abandonment issues. I wanna hold him.

Good for him for finding someone who can bring out the best in him and support him the way he needs to grow.

RECAP: Some girls in school make comments about Hotaru's appearance and how plain she is because they're jealous and one of them wants to confess to Hananoi. This causes Hotaru to stress a bit about her looks but her bestie and Hananoi swiftly put an end to that. Pool day, before that is swimsuit shopping and we get to see a bonus panel of Hananoi telling bestie that the swimsuit should be as conservative as possible lol. Then at the pool, Hotaru runs into Saki's ex, gets warned off about how much of a red flag he is, but Hotaru defends him. Then it goes to homework session, rain out, Hananoi's place, "adult" kissing, then Saki's dad shows up!

Ahhh, cliffhanger!

I’m glad to see them working things out and finding what’s comfortable for them. The communication between these two is top notch, especially when you compare it to other shoujo manga. You get to see a little of Hananoi’s past and what brought him to today - and damn, he was a much creepier bf before 🤣 I think it’s important to note that all relationships are different and there is no one correct pattern to follow. I understand why people think that he’s creepy and their relationship is dysfunctional, but I actually think it is quite healthy for the people that they are. Sometimes it’s a matter of finding the person whose quirks happen to meld with yours, not of finding “normal” (or 30 a lot more single people than there are now).

This volume was really sweet! I enjoy knowing more about Hananoi and Hotaru, they know that they’re not perfect and are trying to make each other feel at ease. I loved the way Hananoi defended Hotaru when those girls criticized her appearance, they had no right to make her feel that way. It was sooo so cute when they went to the pool, they had a lot of fun riding the slides, but we also saw Hananoi’s ex, which was a bit of a twist. I like that Hananoi and Hotaru are enjoying their time together, and how Hotaru wants Hananoi to feel less anxious. That last part was something else, we got a great kiss between and them and then Hananoi’s dad appeared!

More of Hanananoi's background is coming out putting the pieces together, but some of it isn't as pleasant for Hotaru to hear than others. Surprisingly she does rather well when confronted with Hanananoi's most recent ex at the water park. Not too surprisingly, her boyfriend and friends conspire together to be sure that while she is cute in her swimsuit, not too much skin is showing for all the other people around them. They sure are all rather protective of her. A new twist at the end when their time alone is interrupted by none other than Hanananoi's absent father showing up for a visit. Grandma certainly didn't sound too pleased when she called about it.

Terminó el festival deportivo, Hananoi y Hotaru van creciendo igual que sus sentimientos, que nuevos momentos juntos están ahora por descubrir.

Todos perdemos la confianza en uno mismo de vez en cuando, que lindo que se apoyen mutuamente.
Creo que ese viaje a la piscina fue divertido y informativo para la pobre Hotaru.
También me gusta mucho la pareja de Kyo y Keigo-kun.
Por qué siempre hay una que gusta del profesor.
Me encanta este manga y con ese final no me deja otra que leer el siguiente tomo.

Ich bin ja sowieso absoluter Hananoi-Fan, aber in diesem Band hat er sich nochmal ein bisschen mehr Platz in meinem Herzen erschlichen. ❤️ Die Art und Weise, wie er zu seiner Beziehung mit Hotaru steht, wie er sie beschützt und dass er immer mehr sein Herz öffnet und aus seiner Vergangenheit erzählt, macht ihn so so sympathisch. 🥺
Und was war das bitte für eine tolle Kussszene am Ende?! Mein Herz fühlt sich an, als würde es auf Wolken schweben. Es war einfach wunderschön. 😭✨

No puedo esperar para ver la reacción de Hatoru cuando Hananoi-kun le cuente su pasado y el hecho de que estudiaron en la misma escuela. Hananoi-kun es un chico que evidentemente estuvo mucho años hambriento de afecto y amor. Creo que buscaba en todas esas chicas el cariño que sus padres nunca le demostraron. Me desgarra el corazón pensar que un niño tuvo que crecer con la idea de que sus padres no lo aprecian lo suficiente como para quedarse a su lado.

I think some of these reviews are forgetting that the MMC is just a teen with a poor upbringing, lacking in love and attention. What’s important is that he is learning and maturing. The MCs communicate well and often consider each other’s feelings, which is a lot better than most teens. No one is forcing anyone to do anything. Love can help you grow and give you confidence, and they are learning that.

whew. hananoi's past is INTENSE and honestly, his ex yui's feelings about him are totally valid. I'm glad she tried to warn hotaru (girls looking out for girls <3)...I do understand the reasoning for his past actions, but some of those red flags were CRIMSON lol. he seems to definitely have changed, and is still changing, thanks to his relationship with hotaru. bonus points for him sticking up for her against that mean underclassmen. also, kei and hibiki are the CUTEST!!

This was one of my favorite of the series seeing Hotaru and Hanoi grow. Hotaru feeling brave enough for her to tell Hanoi how she felt and the ways she stands up for them later. Also seeing their friends grow in their own ways as well. I also loved seeing them be true teenagers with their friends.

The book shows how communication helps any relationship even when young, now if only adult romances worked this well. The cliff made me excited for the next book and I have it on hold.

This volume brought a lot of interesting chapters - from new love and what it brings to our MCs, to idols, to figuring out past/future relationships…this volume was really good. Our MCs enjoy spending time together and even though others might not think it will last, they prove them wrong by figuring out all their firsts together. Looking forward to the next volume and what becomes of Saki’s sudden visit from his father…

Hananoi has grown so much. This volume proves it. His ex (the girl from the beginning) showed up and we got to hear her side of that relationship. And to be honest, it was toxic as hell. The way Hananoi treated her, he would NEVER do to Hotaru. I’m a firm believer that people can change IF THEY WANT TO. Love can be a good motivator.

I have never felt so conflicted by a volume. This one really, really took care with Hananoi and Hotaru's confidence, trust, and communication with each other, and their growth as people has become so evident.

SO WHY ARE WE INTRODUCING (or hinting at) TROUBLESOME TROPES? I hope the mangaka is able to do it without worry, but, uh...we'll see!

It’s so sad to see his thought process about his past relationships…. All he wanted to do was fill the void that his parents left because they were heartless bastards to him. (๑ó⌓ò๑) Yes, they were doing it for a good cause…… it still isn’t fair for him to be neglected emotionally. Because of that neglect, he started to cling to a weird old man that we’ll probably never get answers about!
