This book is fantastic, especially for scientists who want to find work that isn't academic research.

Certainly more approachable and encouraging than "A PhD is Not Enough!" I enjoyed the author's positive take on job hunting and leaving academe for other positions. This won't do your soul searching for you, but it will get you moving in the right direction towards a new career.

I want to pursue a career in academia, so I found this book of limited usefulness. But, the information will be very useful to someone wanting to explore alternative careers. I liked the quotes in the book.

Accurate summaries of relative advantages of working for industry, government, or academia.

Chapter 5 has excellent advice on self-assessment. Chapter 2 is also quite helpful.

Good stuff. At times made me feel horribly inadequate as a researcher and prospective job candidate but is a good mix of general techniques and very detailed instructions for finding that dream job.
