There are many reasons I should have handed in my resignation the day I met my new boss, Hudson Case.
First off, he’s the reason I lost my first waitressing job. Secondly, he’s gruff, grumpy, and another inconvenient g-word . . . gorgeous. And to top it off, he’s my good friend’s dad.
Oh, and did I mention, he’s also my new roommate? Yeah, we’ll get to that in a sec.
It all started when I begged my friend to get me a temp position working as her dad’s admin until my big move at the end of summer. Little did I know, her dad was the same jerk who callously fired me from my previous waitressing gig.
He says I’m a walking migraine and a thorn in his side. So when I threaten to quit, why does his counteroffer include me moving in with him for business reasons?
But before we know it, we’re mixing business with pleasure.
A lot of pleasure.
Suddenly nothing feels temporary anymore. But it has to be, right?
Because one way or another, our time together is coming to an end.
Swati MH is a Texas raised contemporary romance author living in the Bay Area with her very own book husband and two beautiful daughters. When she's not writing stories full of humor, heart, and heartbreak, she's likely thinking about doing so . . . preferably while holding a glass of wine.
I love me a big Age Gap. Make him my best friend's dad and we are golden. Haha! So I was plenty hyped for this book. I've only read one other book by this author and it was a good time as well. Abyss is a 4th in the series but it can be read as a standalone.
When Kavi gets the opportunity to work at her friend's dad'd company.. well let's say they aren't off to a great start. Hudson is a grumpy grump that she has met before.. when he lost her her previous job.. So.. yeah, you can see how that must be going.
Hudson is a total butt in the beginning but as he gets to know her, he feels genuinely bad about judging her so harshly and he becomes undeniably attracted to her in the meantime. Oh, and did I mention he gives her a place to stay as well? So they are also roommates.
It's hard for them to deny their feelings and things start to heat up. One intimate moment becomes more and before they know it, they are hooked.
Other sweet moments involve a beautiful horse and lots of late night chats. It was beautiful watching them fall in love.
It was going so good...
And then it had my absolutely LEAST favorite kind of a 3rd Act conflict. Must we... okay.. It brought the story to a screeching halt for me. But I don't think everyone will feel the same.
This was angsty, steamy, and just a little bit fun, even while handling some heavy topics. I think many will enjoy it completely.
4 stars 3 on the spice scale
*Thank you to The Author Agency and the author for an ARC of this title.*
you hear?! 🎧 Abyss is now available in AUDIO format and of course kindle unlimited 😉
Abyss is: 🍒 Enemies to Lovers 🍒 Best Friend’s Dad 🍒 Workplace Romance 🍒 Age Gap (46-25) 🍒 Close Proximity 🍒 Grumpy Grump 🍒 Curvy, sassy Heroine 🍒 Grey sweatpants 🍒 Tons of humor 🍒 Roomates
I received this as an ARC and let me tell you I loved it and it deserves all the stars!
You can expect:
- Age Gap - Best friend's dad - Work place romance - Sassy FMC - Grumpy MMC - Touch her and die vibes
I knew what to expect but did not entirely expect the story to capture me quite like it did. Kavi had me laughing and crying as we got to know what makes her so eccentric and guarded. Hudson was so guarded that through the story, we found out that he too, had reasons to remain guarded.
As readers you aren't just entranced by their love for one another hidden behind banter but you are enraptured by their complexities and how similar they truly are. Kavi is so expressive and artistic and caring, and Hudson is very business-minded, calculated and methodical. However, when it comes to giving their hearts away, they both go all in.
The plot pace was perfection, and did not leave too much time between significant events within the story, and I loved how Swati MH took you through a few timelines to help really solidify the character development. The dual POV was delicious!
I was totally left wanting more of Hudson and Kavi and now have more Swati MH on my TBR!
I was lucky enough to receive this ARC and was so glad I did! I loved everything about Kavi and Hudson. Also nice to see some people from other books! Their chemistry was everything! And the tropes.. friend's dad, her boss, age gap! So hot and steamy... I don't think his desk will ever be sanitized enough :)
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Move out of the way Darian (I’m so sorry, my love) because Hudson Case has entered the chat. I truly didn’t think anyone could top Darian as my top Swati MH hero, but Hudson Case is now my leading man.
Okay, I am done obsessing, maybe, over Hudson. For now.

When Kavi is down on her luck after getting fired from the owner of the restaurant where she was waitressing, she turns to her best friend Madison for help. She gets her a job with her father as his assistant for the next three months.
What she doesn’t expect is for her new boss, her best friend’s dad, to be the same hottie grump who just fired her. Now she has to deal with him when he has made it known that he does not want her there.
The two of them have such great banter back and forth and I loved how the chemistry between them is burning bright. You can feel the sexual tension coming through the pages.
Hudson Case is a top tier book boyfriend. The things he does for Kavi is endless - he protects her and supports her and is there for her endlessly.
Kavi loves hard and with Hudson that’s no exception. She is finally getting a chance to breathe after feeling suffocated for years in her life.
I just love these two so, so much and I can’t wait for the world to read their story!
4.75 STARS. First time reading this author but it won’t be the last. First editing was good I really only notice one typo with a missing word in a sentence. I’m not usually as into romance where there is a single Dad or Mom. Age gaps don’t really bother me either but this was a bigger one than I’m used to reading. That being said this was so well done. The story of Kav’s childhood, the emails to her bestie. I LOVED the fact that neither one were sleeping around like crazy. Not that there is anything wrong with it but it needs to make sense for the story and it would not have here. No OW drama, minor OM drama. This was a story about meeting your match falling in love in an unexpected way but the way that fits. It’s what a romance novel should be. There was a little lack of communication but it did not drag on and it made sense. I loved the teasing back and forth. Trip to the dentist lol. 4.75 stars just had to deduct slightly personal preference the baby girl nickname not a huge fan but with this being such a huge age gap it made even more cringe worthy.
As soon as hit my kindle I couldn’t wait to jump in let just I was completely hooked form page one . I Literally devoured this in this in go I couldn’t put it down so desperate what happens next . If you are in Enemies to lovers ,Best friend’s dad ,Workplace romance , Forced proximity , Super grumpy ,Curvy, sassy heroine , Tons of humour And let’s not forget the SPICE the you will love this book !!!
Swati MH is so incredibly talented, masterfully weaving deep emotions, lush worlds with amazing characters, and deliciously dirty talking book boyfriends. This one touches on some tough topics with Kavi's backstory but remains on the lighter side. I loved the trope list for this book, and I was so excited to see how this set up would play out. It exceeded my every hope! I loved watching Hudson losing control of his tightly wound rules and letting go of all of his reticence with Kavi. While there is a significant age gap between these two, it's extremely well done and left me feeling all the warm fuzzies with each of them finding their perfect match in the other.
"The only woman I give two ***** about drooling over me is you, Kav. Just you. Only you. And as for having a piece of me? You should know, you've written your name on all my pieces."
The office romance/taboo/age gap that I didn’t know I desperately needed in my life! You think you know how it will play out BUT you don’t. Spicy with a capital S 🌶️ 🔥🙌🏻
Hudson is the perfect broody grump and Kavi is the sunshine that brings him out of the rain 😭🥹😍 I more than enjoyed the interconnections with the other characters - Read the first three books…Adrift is the starter! (could be read as a standalone buttttt for best reading experience, I say read in order with this series!)
Hot Damn and Mama Mia call me a doctor as I have been overheated with this book, I got to read this book as an ARC and I must say it's fire and spicy to the max. First thing first the MMC Hudson Case is a man of many colours that comes out to be a asshole at first but for the MFC Kavi Jain he is possessive and jealous to 110 degree. He would do anything for her but doesn't show it in her right away but slowly does. Kavi Jain is not your typical sunshine main lead she is complex and you feel for her with have she has gone through as a teenage but she evolves into a beautiful woman. Both main character grows together.
One thing I must say is Hudson is the man to I want because he has a rough side but also a gentle side for the women he loves like his daughter Maddy and Kavi his love.
I would do what Kavi did as I am an Administrative Assistant and if I had a boss like Hudson I would give into the forbidden apple as well. Oh the spicy scene when he is in a conference call and is having his fun with Kavi is what dreams are made for to the Admins. that are attracted to their bosses.
I must read and I highly recommend this book. You won't be disappointed.
I Am obviously obsessed with this story and Author new to me Swati M.H. And she didn’t disappoint… absolutely the best read for me . This is definitely a book I would want to read over again !
Kavi Jain the curvy sweet stubborn been through a lot FMC was down on her luck after getting fired from the restaurant where she was waitressing, it was one where she thought she could never live down nor forget, (Yes girl that restaurant scene had me in tears from laughing so hard ) but she is desperately in need of a job so she turns to her only friend Madison for help. Madison in turn gets her a job with her father as his assistant for a few months.
Hello. Enter Mr Hot as heck chip on his shoulders king of all Grump with a mercurial temperament that will give you whiplash Mr HUDSON CASE! Seeing Kavi again after that colossal mishap at the restaurant, Hudson was not prepared seeing her again as his temporary assistant nonetheless, listen when I tell you, he almost lost his mind. It was hilarious.
“I’m your new admin.” “No, you’re not.” I scoff because this has to be a joke. And not a very good one “
And do it Begins!
The back and forth between these two characters is epic the chemistry between them is scorching at best! You can feel the sexual tension coming throughout the story!
Hudson Case has just been added as my top book boyfriend, the things this man does for Kavi he silently supports and protects her and is there for her endlessly despite his mercurial nature, his actions illustrates exactly how he feels about her and man alive if it wasn’t a fun filled experience reading their story and seeing the struggles and growth shown by these two ! 🐎 I do something I’d vowed never to do. Book four in the Elements of Rapture series can be read as a standalone and ends with a HEA. It is written in first person from an alternating dual POV. Kavi (25) is a hard worker who has not had a lot of good luck in her life. In fact, she has suffered quite a lot of pain. Even with years of therapy, she still carries some baggage from some very difficult moments in her life. When her friend Madison gets her a job with her father’s company for the summer it looks like her luck is changing. That is, until she meets Maddison’s dad. Hudson (46) has raised his daughter to become a wonderful adult without her mother in the picture. He is beyond driven, uber-grumpy, a little bitter, and has extremely high standards for everyone in his life. Honestly, he is one of the grumpiest MMCs I have ever read. At times he is not very nice, especially when it comes to Kavi. I love that Kavi’s normally more meek personality takes a back seat with him though. She allows herself to come back at him with sarcasm, snark, and fierce self-possession. They have some incredible banter as they both battle each other and the chemistry that sizzles between them. Sparks lead to fire and the heat between these two is combustible in extreme. I appreciated how the author allows the reader to see Hudson’s remorse after he says and does the wrong things. I felt like that was important to keeping his character likable. I adore how he becomes with Kavi. The way he worships and care for her and how possessive he is of her is incredibly sweet and more indicative of his heart than his words. Kavi’s character was so incredibly resilient and very relatable to me. I loved her inner strength and how she was able to bring out a lighter, softer side of Hudson. I adored the steamy scenes between them and loved their tender moments. I have really loved how every book in this series was written and I can see a reread in my future. Gorgeous. I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an advance reader copy of the book.
As soon as I saw this book, I knew I had to read it! I read Ablaze (book 3) and loved it, I knew I had to get my hands on this book. I was not disappointed!
🍒Tropes🍒 »Enemies to Lovers »Best Friend’s Dad »Workplace Romance »Forced Proximity »Super Grumpy Grump »Curvy, sassy Heroine »Tons of humor »And let’s not forget the spice
Kavi is desperate to find a job for the summer to help support her family. She’s off to Portland come fall, so she asks her good friend to help her get a job at her friend’s dad’s company. Little does she knew her friend’s dad is the same man who fired her from her previous job. Can she deal with his grumpy, and at times rude personality and find the good man beyond his walls?
I really enjoyed this book. While our MMC, Hudson, can be quite abrasive at times, he’s truly a good man with good intentions. He’s been hurt and has his walls up higher than anyone would ever want to climb, until Kavi.
The attraction and chemistry our MCs have practically jumps off the page. As the saying goes with potato chips, you can never have just one, or once in this case.
There are some emotional parts that absolutely devastated me. Kavi’s past is tough, but she’s so resilient and it really warmed my heart.
This was a brilliant enemies to lovers, workplace romance with all the spice and angst you could want. Check out Abyss today!
Dnf 70% Just dont care. It's probably me cause Im in a funk. But I am getting sick of the "He's a total jerk but hot, so I'll ignore what an Ahole he is" trope!
I did like that the main character was Indian. Rare to find books with heroines that aren't white!
Holly Shit this was book that I start blind without reading blurb or something, and Swati M.H have for sure surprise me in the best way possible with my first book that I read by her.
Here are the tropes that make me in love 💚Workplace romance 💚Enemies to lovers 💚Age gap(25/46)🫠 💚Single dad 💚Best friends dad 💚Grumpiest grump MMC,who I wanted to punch in the beginning 🙈
Kavi Jain is searching for work after she was brutally fired in her currently waitresing job by her hot resturant owner/asholt. Now without knowing what to do she turns to her best friend Madison for help. Where she gets her a job with her father as his assistant for the next three months.
Little did she expect for her first day in the new work her new boss, to be the same hottie asholt, who just fired her from the previous one!!! While she succees to deal with him, when he has made it known that he does not want her to there??? This is definitely something everyone will find out if they start the book!😉
But one is for sure Hudson Case is the hottest grump daddy ,who I'm droling over for,and who have make my blood pressure to rise like crazy !🥵 Kav is sweetheart, who hase a tuff childhood, now years later the challenge Hudson is giving her everyday, she is accepting with head heald high. The two of them have such great banter, and the sexual tension is coming through the pages lol!🫠 Hudson maybe is man who hase rough side but also is gentle for the women he love in his life!
This is book must read everyone, and I highly recommend to everyone who love the tropes that i have listed above. You won't be disappointed!!
What to Expect: - Workplace Romance - Billionaire Romance - Enemies to Lovers - Single Dad - Age Gap - Forbidden Romance - Best Friend's Dad - Close Proximity
Abyss is a fun, emotional, and steamy romance full of all the best tropes. It’s an age-gap, workplace, enemies-to-lovers story—with a twist. The MMC? He’s the FMC's friend’s dad. Yep, you read that right! I loved Kavi and Hudson together, and the forbidden nature of their relationship. Kavi loses her job and ends up working as an assistant for the same grumpy guy who just fired her. Initially, Hudson is cold and serious, and Kavi wants absolutely nothing to do with him. Kavi challenges Hudson in the best way, and I loved seeing his guard slowly come down. They had amazing chemistry, and although they tried to fight their feelings, it was clear they truly cared about each other. I loved witnessing them grow as characters and how they healed each other. This book has it all, and I adore Swati's writing. If you love stories with a satisfying romance, fun banter, lots of laughs, and swoon-worthy moments, you will enjoy Abyss.
Narration: Simone Lewis and Aaron Shedlock perform this audiobook using dual-style narration. They are the perfect voices for Kavi and Hudson, and brought their steamy, age-gap, forbidden romance to life in the best way. Their performances pulled me into the story. I felt every emotion and was completely invested in Kavi and Hudson's rollercoaster romance.
Thanks to Swati M.H. for the early review opportunity. Opinions expressed are my own.
“You just went from telling me how she infuriates you to she’s moving in with you. Help me bridge the gap here.”
I was quickly captured in Kava and Hudson’s story. Kava is a strong independent woman who hasn’t always had it easy but refuses to let her past dictate her future. She has a plan and just needs to make it through the next three months, little difficult when she gets fired on her first day as a waitress.
When her best friend, suggests she try out for a position with her dads company, she is eager for more information until she comes face to face with her future boss, the man who just recently had her fired. Hudson is the definition of a grump but there are so many levels to him inside of that exterior that just had me craving more.
“I bet we have more in common than you think. It just depends on the layers you want to peel back.”
It’s an understatement to say these two don’t get along in the beginning. While they get off to a rocky start, you see things start to shift between them. Their personalities complaint each other in the best way because Hudson becomes a safe space for her and Kava helps him heal from his past and with that, his true personality starts to shine.
“Tell me it’s mine, baby girl. Tell me you’re mine.”
The topics that were hit and the way they were perfectly weaved together for this story had me kicking my feet and unable to put this down. Their banter and emotional/ honest moments were some of my favourite moments with them.
“As for having a piece of me? You should know, you’ve written your name on all my pieces.”
There is so much more I want to discuss, especially about a certain character but I don’t want to spoil the experience. After some emotional turmoil, I LOVED watching these two get the ending they worked so hard for.
Kavi gets fired from a job she desperately needs. She asks her friend to get her a job at her dad's company. Kavi is hired and Hudson realizes that she is the waitress he fired weeks ago. These two cannot stand each other or so they say. Hudson is hot and cold and gives Kavi whiplash. They spend a lot of time fighting their feelings for each other. Not only is he older than Kavi, he's her boss and the dad of her friend. But the chemisty between the two of them is so hot and when he finally lets his guard down he is really a softy. I really enjoyed watching Hudson and Kavi navigate their feelings. I do wish that there wasn't the short period of miscommunication but thats a me issue. Abyss is the 4th book in the series but can be read as a standalone. I do recommend reading the other books because they are good as well.
ARC review Man I love a good age-gap romance. Throw in billionaire and him being your friend's dad, perfect! Kavi was just perfect. I loved her character. She was fun and quirky. Hudson was brooding and hot. I love Swati's books. Always amazing.
I liked this book. I think Kavi was a very interesting and loveable character. I loved her creativity and willingness to help people around her and be there for the people she loves. Hudson was a different story…I loved his dynamic with his daughter and how he stepped up from young to take care of her and his family business, I feel like he used his trauma as an excuse to be rude to people, especially to people who didn’t deserve it. His brother wronged him and deserved to go iced out, but that doesn’t mean that he could treat people with little care. I think he definitely did care for Kavi but there were moments where he didn’t treat her well and was acting immature even though he was 47 years old… I still would recommend

~ Hudson and Kavi ~
In love that is what I am!!
I feel like every time Swati introduces a new man I love them more and more!!
Hudson may be my fave Swati man so far!! He takes grumpy grump very seriously!! But I love him so much and his soft side is swoon worthy!! Kavi is a strong sassy curvy heroine! I loved her fierceness when it came to Hudson and the way he was her at the start.
When their first meeting involves a catastrophe that results in her getting fired, well let's just say that if Kavi Jain never sees Hudson Case again, it will be too soon. But she needs a summer job and her best friend puts in a good word for her with her father who needs a temporary admin. You guessed it, Kavi's new admin assistant job is with the same guy who just fired her.
And that’s only the beginning, my reader friend. Things go from bad to worse to major chemistry and scorching sparks. There’s a lot to this one with two multi-layered, very complex characters. Hudson will put the worst alphahole you’ve ever read to shame, but for those he loves, he's fiercely loyal with a squishy heart of gold.
Kavi epitomizes what I love so much about this gifted wordsmith's female characters. She may be young and inexperienced, but she knows herself and her mind. She's quiet and introverted, and watching her grow stronger and find her voice makes this one worth reading.
Kavi and Hudson will take you on a wild emotional ride, whipping your heart from one extreme to another. You‘ll love and hate Hudson simultaneously and your heart will break for Kavi. You’ll laugh, you'll cry, you'll yell and you'll swoon, and I guarantee this will be one of your most epic romance reading escapes ever!
Loved it.. angsty, emotional, sexy and a whole lot of fun to read. I found myself parking on the side of the road a time or two because I couldn't get the story out of my head and I had to read a bit more. It was just that good and held me on the line the whole book. I'm not a huge fan for age gaps and missed that this was one but the beginning was so well done that I had to push on and soon I was oblivious to the gap. These two had my heart and I was pulling for them so much. But let me tell you the hate in the beginning and the unwanted chemistry with it was crazy good... I couldn't wait to see them fall for each other later on. Good heat too... I liked he was a fun bossy Alpha at times in bed. :)
