Eve Noelle has been tortured by her mother's careless dreams and delusions her entire childhood that her absent father is actually Santa Claus. The real Santa Claus. She despises Christmas, the music, the children, and anything to do with the holiday but then one day.. Of course, what she doesn't expect is her mother's insanity turning into her actual reality when an real live elf shows up at her office just before the holidays.
Keenan Hayes is your typical random man from Atlanta working a regular job delivering packages. He pays his bills, smokes in his down time and enjoys what Atlanta, his home city has to offer. Yet, one day when he returns from a shift, he finds a man dressed in a red suit, declaring himself to be Santa Claus...tells Keenan that he is to take his place and save Christmas. Not only by becoming the next Saint as they are called, but to marry his daughter, Eve Noelle who has no idea he exists.
I hope yall smile as much as I did when writing this story. Really really enjoyed writing this.
“What if this is some dream…What if none of this is real?” “Then when I wake up, I’ma find you,”🥰🥰🥰🎄🎅🏿🎁🥰🥰🥰
Every so often, you get that one story that imprints on your mind, heart and soul! Well ladies and gents, Desiree delivered a holiday story that warmed the fk out of my heart! She wrote TF out of this story!!!!! I can say with no hesitation that she gave us one of the most whimsically unique holiday books that I’ve ever read!!!! I meannnnnnnnnn!!! Why was this story EVERY-FKN-THING!!!! “Saint and the Queen” gave you all of the childlike magical feels of the holiday! The storyline was original af and she gave us characters that you can’t help but to love! My cheeks HURT reading this because I smiled the entire time reading this story!!
Eve Noelle has lived her entire life with and absent father and a mother that suffered from mental illness. Her mother told stories that were so convincing yet so far fetched about her life and Eve’s conception, that she was labeled the looney of ATL. Well after a creepy looking elf is one day delivered to Eve, she can’t help but wonder if her mother’s mental illness runs in the family because she’s starting to feel like she’s losing her mind!
Keenan is your average n*gga from the hood. He delivers his packages for Amazon and minds the business that pays him. After delivering a package to Eve, he had no idea that this one delivery would forever change life as he knows it. Keenan was honestly the star of this book. He was sooooo…. EVERYTHING 🥰😩🥰😩. You can’t help but love his character! The way he was unapologetically himself added layers of charm to this story! He was definitely a real one and so smooth the way he effortlessly delivered holiday cheer!
Their first date and the sleigh ride were the absolute highlights of the story for me! Day Dream and Nightmare were a whole vibe and need their own story! Charles getting “knocked tf out” was cleansing to me soul we just needed to add his sisters to the mix! Grandma Sophia, the magical matriarch gathered the whole town with one show of respect and I loved that for Eve!
THIS is how you write a black ass original ass holiday story and Desiree set the bar soooooo high with this one that my expectations are next level this holiday reading season! I need all of my stories EXACTLY like this one or you can keep it! Rearrange that TBR and put this mf at the top! Les’ skooooooooo! 🥰🎄🎅🏿🎁
Imagine growing up and being told that, not only is Santa Clause really black but, he’s also your daddy and he lives in this magical place called Crystal City. Now, imagine becoming an adult and finding out what you thought were the ramblings of your mama’s unstable mind are actually true. Eve’s mama has battled mental illness most of her life so, she’s never given much thought to the outlandish and far fetch stories Evelyn has told her most of her childhood. Does she believe Santa Clause lives in Crystal City instead of the North Pole? Nope! Does she believe that she’s the Princess of Crystal City? Hell no! Does she believe Santa Clause is her daddy?!!! Hell f*ck no! Eve just wants to live a normal life, run her business, and continue going to therapy two days a week with the option of increasing her visits to five days a week. All of that changes when a snow globe with a creepy looking elf is delivered to her house. With that delivery, life as Eve knows it is about to change.
Keenan is a regular dude from the ATL who does regular dude shyt. He’s a delivery driver for Amazon during the day, he gets high when he’s off the clock, then he hits them Atlanta streets to see what or who he can get into on Friday nights. Since giving up the street life, this has become the norm for Keenan’s and he’s cool with that because, it keeps him out of trouble. So, imagine his shock and surprise when he comes home from work to find a stranger sittin’ in his living room informing him that he has been chosen to be the next Saint (AKA Santa Clause), he has to marry the Daughter of Winter, and they must produce a male heir BEFORE Christmas. Did I mention it was October? To say Keenan’s mind is blown is a huge understatement. Does he believe any of this shyt? Absolutely not but, Charles’ persistence and a visit to Crystal City opens Keenan’s mind up to a whole new world of possibilities.
Saint and the Queen was everything! This was the blackity black holiday read I didn’t know I needed. I loved the uniqueness and urban feel of the storyline, and I absolutely love how unapologetically black this book was. Santa Clause? Black! The Sandman? Black! St. Valentine? Black! The elves with the 24 inch bundles? Black! The oldest descendants to step foot on the planet?!!! Black! Listen, the black representation was representing y’all hear me?!!! This was my first read by Desiree but, it definitely won’t be the last. Bravo ma’am. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
4/5 This felt like a fever dream!! Such a unique romance storyline. If you’re looking for a holiday book that feels a bit magical, you’ll love this one. It’s such an easy read. This author is quickly becoming one of my favorites!
This was such a fun read. It was magical. Black. Creative. Saint isn’t your regular ol’ Santa. Desiree put a cool ass twist on him and it was entertaining.
It felt like it just ended though. The dinner was about to be a little messy- why did it end 😩😩 so I’m definitely in support of getting more stories about Crystal City and our Saint and the Queen 🖤
This could have been 5 stars for me but the editing needed a little extra work. It did distract me just a LITTLE bit. 🤏🏾
I wish this was longer. Like a full blown Black fantasy romance novel. The couple were so dreamy. And the Christmas backdrop was cool but I wish it could’ve been more fleshed out.
My goodness, I loved reading this. Keenan was amazing; he was the one who sold the book to me. This was fresh, magical, and one of a kind. The idea and black representation was wonderful. Why the author abruptly end this messy dinner? I want more... need more.
This was my first Christmas read this year, and I love, love, loved it. This story had everything you'd need for Christmas. It had all the Christmas magic…literally… that made Christmas so magical. It had Black Santa, black elves, and everything black. This was for Us and by Us. The love that was developed between Saint and the Queen was 🥰🥰 This story was different and so out of the box. It was perfect, and I loved every page. Would totally watch this movie on the big screen.
I fckn loved this book. I didn’t want it to end. I love the originality of this story. The black representation was beautiful. Seeing them fall in love on there own terms was beautifully done. I can’t wait for the rest of this holiday series.
Ok so Desiree was already the G.O.A.T. because… For the Love of ATL, The Carter Boys (The Carter Girls), Bambino etc.. Sis is still out here writing masterpieces. Saint and the Queen is a modern day Christmas novella with a lot of ATL & hood tendencies.
Eve Noelle has grown up being told by her mother, Evelyn that her father is Santa Claus. Everyone thinks that Evelyn is mentally unhinged because Santa Claus??? Yeah right…. plus that dude’s yht!! After years of therapy and a strained on again/off again relationship with her mother, Eve quickly realizes Evelyn wasn’t so crazy after all. Well wait…. maybe years of trauma at the hands of her mother has Eve just as mentally unstable as Evelyn. Maybe the “crazy” is hereditary.
Keenan is just a regular smeggular dude. He works for Amazon delivering packages, drives an Impala, likes to smoke and shoot the 💩 with the kids and men in his community. Keenan comes home from work one day to find a man, Charles dressed in all red claiming to be the Saint, not Santa Claus because that’s the yht man’s version. Keenan has been chosen to become the next Saint, save Christmas and marry Eve, Charles’s Daughter.
This story was so unique and unexpected. It was whimsical and urban. It was far-fetched and believable. The love was fast and magical. Eve had the very people who were supposed to love her and hold her down, play right in her face. Sis deserved Saint, the family she gained and the HEA. Saint was so effortlessly everything! Cool, caring, fun loving, protective, loyal and laidback. Experience it for yourself!
Listen....This was the Hood yet elegant Christmas story I didn't even know I needed. I'm glad this was my first December read, because the originality is unmatched. Desiree said I'm a give you Christmas...but make it BLACK!! and I loved every minute of it. Keenan is minding his business and one day after work his life is turned upside down when he is approached with the offer to become the new "Saint" aka Santa Claus by marrying the Queen, continuing the bloodline and ensuring that the magic and spirit of Christmas lives on. Evie, has spent her entire life believing that her relation to Santa Claus is a lie told by her seemingly unstable mother. However, when a package is delivered to her by thee Keenan himself her life is forever changed. This is all unbelievable to them both, until it becomes very real.
Saint Keenan was everything! His swag was giving unapologetically ATL heaux! His authenticity to himself, refusing to change for the uppity folks that by in large needed him, was refreshing. He was the epitome of Christmas spirit and it was clear he was chosen because he easily connected to the children and related to the adults. I loved everything about him...from his hood vernacular, locked hair, beautiful brown skin, and his protective nature. I especially loved the way he committed to lead Evie through a mess she didn't deserve to have to clean up. He was committed to supporting her through it and building up her confidence to rightfully stand as the Queen she was. Saint Keenan was everything that Evie the Queen both needed and deserved after being shunned from her family her entire life. When Keenan told Evie how he would come find her and mack her down if it was all a dream, it was the sweetest moment and I fell in love with Saint too lol.
There were so many beautiful moments I loved in this book, but their first date was my favorite, it was just fun and sweet and you could feel the connection stirring between them. I also loved how the town commemorated the moment. The sleigh ride through the town, and the trust Evie finally showed to Keenan shifted the nature of their relationship and it was just...beautiful. Uugh just read the book, there are so many swoon worthy moments. Bravo Desiree for giving us a new Christmas story that represents all things Black....black love, black complicated relationships, nonexistent parental figures, bougie azz hater families... she gives us the good, the bad, and the ugly.
I am a visual person, I love when I can picture a story and Desiree did that!! I thought I was up in Crystal City! Despite the lack luster ending, this story expanded my expectations of what a Christmas story could be, hell my entire thought process. The representation she gave us, for a holiday that visually and historically has never been about us, was beautiful. Desiree, yes we want another Holiday update, because we need to know what happened at that messy azz Christmas dinner and we have to see if Saint and Queen expand their family. Shii let me save up my money for my flight to Crystal City next Christmas.
Sidenote: Desiree is the author of the "Brotherhood series" under the pen name ATL Diaries and while it isn't a story for everyone the originality and boundaries that she pushes with the story is unmatched. She is an author that writes stories that we wouldn't otherwise allow our minds to see.
So creative! I didn’t know what to expect from this story but it had my attention and I couldn’t stop reading. Keenan and Evie were destined for each other. It was so sweet watching their love unfold!
What a story! I feel bad for Miss Evelyn, getting called crazy her whole life, and was right on the money!
Eve was already living her life on the edge, never knowing what mood her mother would be in that day, and now all THIS! It's true? My father is who? Everyone in my life was in on this? Eve's mind is telling her that this is all a dream, as it is too much to be real life. Or can it? Now, I'm like Eve, what is real? 👀 I have soooo many questions!
I adored Keenan right from the start. He was gone be unapologetically him and didn't give a damn what anyone said or thought about it! I was surprised that he took the news of his future so well. Don't get me wrong, he was shook for a minute when he saw this tall ass man in his apartment, making it snow! 😂 But he got right on with the program. I loved how quickly Keenan took to Eve and was immediately her protector. Swooning......🤩
We definitely need more of this. Where Eve's grandma go? What other secrets is Charles hiding? Does Evelyn have the upper hand now? What's Kellen's deal? He is a little too infatuated with the Queen! Hmm... That dinner was bout to be lit, and THE END! Ughhhhh..... Really enjoyed this wild ride!
This gave me all the feels. Mixed with drama and holiday cheer Desiree did this one right. I absolutely loved Keenan’s character. Especially after the first meet. He was really the star of this. I’ll be so excited if we get more.
This was a great urban fantasy Christmas book. I laughed and smiled, as a child I wish it were more Christmas stories like this one. MY SANTA CLAUS BLACK!!
4.5 - This read was giving very much “proud to be black” and that I am. Really fun and enjoyable read. Everything black and beautiful with drama, cute moments and funny ones as well. All the characters gave to this story and i liked them. Loved how the author talked about the first black families to touch this earth and the palm people taking everything they can to twist the story/holidays as their own. To say your dad is Santa is wild and yet dope as heck all at the same time. Saint aka Keenan was all for it once he gave in. Just love how he seems to fall for Eve first and absolutely enjoys calling her his wife.
I would so be down for another 2 maybe 3 books. We need to see if Eve and Keenan finally achieve their goal. Want to know how Evelyn and Charles love came about. Also Charles and his sisters (with their messy behinds) because i know that family got stories. Especially being one of the first black families. Oh yea Mr. 24 Bust Down i want to know how he became one of the top helpers. I know his story would be so entertaining.
Let me not forget Charles i think Eve took it lite on you but none the less you got what you deserved.
This was a creative Christmas storyline spin and I loved every word. I was intrigued, confused at some points, engrossed and much more. I need more of Saint and Queen Eve and need to find out what else happens at the ChristmasEve dinner. Saint’s support of Eve was impressive and definitely what she needed considering what she went through. I need to see some repercussions for the actions of Charles and his sisters, maybe his mother cause I’m not sure if she is good regardless. This is a MUST READ.
Did I think I would be crying on a Saturday morning? No!
Did I enjoy the story of The Saint and his Queen? Too much!
Did I buy two copies of this book? Heck yeah! One for me and one for my niecey-poo, because I'm extra and enjoyed that much!
Now, why are people screaming for a sequel..... Creatures of habit and we want more. It's cute this way before it gets ugly and painful. It's was well written and well done.
A whimsical spin on the traditional Christmas 🎄 stories as only Granger could write ✍️.
... of course, Queen Eve Noelle and Saint Keenan would meet in Atlanta 💁🏾♀️. It wouldn't be Desiree Granger book without the messy siblings/sisters 😒 and the brother who wouldn't stand up to them.
Drama to a minimum, magic to the max.
"What if you wake up and you don’t remember any of this?” “Oh naaah… I’ll remember you the moment I lay eyes on you,” he said as he leaned down to kiss me. “Trust me. Our story is just beginning…”
I really liked it a lot. The story was so good. Very close to 5 stars, but the writing or more so editing needed some work. There were missing and wrong words and the time jumps were disorienting. It pulled me out of the story sometimes. But I still really enjoyed it. Good main and side characters. Unique take on the Christmas spirit plus, close proximity slow burn marriage of convenience. Lots of "My Wife" thrown in. 5 star story. 2.5 star writing/editing. The author said she may continue the story next year. If she does, I will 100% read it. There is plenty more story to be told. I didn't want this one to end. Happy reading!
This story was so refreshing! Magic, power, drama, but real love made this story complete! Desiree does a great job with pulling you in and making you trust her pen! This should indeed be a seasonal story. We need the kids, more from the Saint & Queen and an update on Charles and Evelyn.
“What if this is some dream…What if none of this is real?” “Then when I wake up, imma find you”
Forget everything you know about Christmas. 5 Black families started the world. Add magic. Add cute kids who taunt Amazon drivers 😂 Add family drama. And add a fierce Black woman who doesn’t know the power she holds and a hilarious man who is lowkey Santa in real life and who will protect her at all costs - and you have Saint and the Queen. Eve and Keenan were it for me. Together they were hilarious and sexy.
Every character felt like they could easily live in the movie Jingle Jangle. Shout out to my niece for that one. The description of their outfits, magical Atlanta, and everything in between gave me Black Christmas magic. Desiree is a new to me author and she definitely has a new fan. This has to be one of my favorite novellas of the season so far. “Before we were human, we were magic.”
🎄What I Loved: Eve and her crown at Coronation • Day’s convo with Eve • Keenan on the sleigh
This book was chaotic, cheesy, magical, and honestly… a good time. A Black holiday fantasy with a Santa twist I did not see coming, set in Atlanta? I was in. The writing is a little rough and fast-paced, but the concept carries hard.
I laughed, I rolled my eyes, I got attached, and then I hit the end wishing the author had given us more pages to really dig into the characters and the world. The chemistry, the banter, and the holiday magic were there—I just wanted it to go deeper. Fun, different, and absolutely sequel-worthy.
This was a quick, light read. Not a fantasy reader but I like the fun twist to Santa Claus and his wife. Hopefully she comes out with another book continuing this story!!! 3/5 ⭐️
This story was so different, but I absolutely loved it. The innocence and wonder of Keenan made me adore him. This book was so well written it played out in my mind like I was watching it. The imagery was amazing. The characters were both likeable and loveable. And yes, I think this should be an k going series. I would love to see how they both grow in their roles as Royals. And also, Evelyn deserves retribution.
