Cliffhanger again

Very hard book to read. There is child sexual abuse, murderers, awful people and a love story. The married couple had been together 10 years when an old mistress of the hero's (way before he met the heroine) said she was pregnant by him but he knew there was no way. She was basically trying to force him to take care of the child who was his missing brother in laws. But there are so many twists and turns and misunderstandings. I got a little annoyed at several parts. I still gave it a four because of course good triumphed over evil mostly. Plus the writing was engaging. It is free in KU. No cheating but there is a lot of talk about sexual abuse of minors. Quite disgusting. But we are left hanging as to the fate of her missing brother. I wanted closure on that.

This was a good story and I read it in one sitting, more or less. I took a few breaks from it over the course of the day. The beginning was so bad I almost gave up before I finished the first chapter. A couple who can barely keep their off of each other, has been married for 10 years and never, NEVER once said I love you. He hasn't said it out of pride because she hasn't said it. What are they teenagers? Ten years of marital bliss and no one says I love you. So unrealistic. Then she jumps to the conclusion that the rumor that her husband made her brother, a 25 year old man get on a ship and go off to war. What? And her idiot husband believes she's so mad because he stopped and spoke with his former mistress in the street and says - she meant nothing. So of course the wife jumps to the conclusion that he's been having an affair and storms off up the stairs saying she's leaving him. What does he do? He offers her 100 pounds to stay. She counters with 100 pounds per week and says she will stay for two weeks. Then the internal dialog commences to the point of nausea and I was read to delete the book from my Kindle. After I read some reviews I decided to stay with it and it got better. However, there were quite a few instances of words being switched around causing sentences to make no sense until I read them a few times and figured out the correct order of the words. That stuff just pulls me out of the story and annoys me. There's no reason for it. Editors need to be held accountable. So these are the reasons for my lower rating. A good story that could have been much better.

I'm very picky about what books I read, and even if I find a book I like, I don't always review.

The Earl’s Error by Kathy L Wheeler sucked me in from the first page. I LOVED it. It's not often that I want to read a book without stopping for ANYTHING until I reach the end. This book was a delightful surprise that I couldn't put it down, and I only put it down once, when I had to do work for a client (and I tried to think of a way around that too!). I loved Thorne and Lorelei. Great characters, and the pace of the book kept me turning the digital page as quickly as I could.

If you're looking for a great read, then trust me, this book won't disappoint you. It has everything I love in a story.

The plot is so OTT, read like a penny dreadful. Lots of evil men who are keen on young girls. A couple of good men who are easily misled. The h was quite useless as her husband of 10 years had never told her he loved her. She decides to leave, demands money but she has no life skills, and can't do anything herself. It was a hot mess, some might like it, but sadly not me.

Intense love story

I really enjoyed reading this book. There was so much happening that it kept my interest until the very end. Thorne and Lorelei loved each other so much but had never bothered to tell each other. This ended up causing a lot of misunderstandings between one another. There was the mystery of the missing brother, the pregnant courtesan, and the cryptic paintings. Not everything was answered so I'm hoping that it will be in future books.

A tangled web.

Wow, what a book of deceit, carnal knowledge, child abuse, kidnapping and murder!! This is not a book for the tender-hearted, but if you start it you won't want to put it down. From a pregnant mistress and her pregnant sister and A malignant man who is abusive in his means to have a male heir the story line goes to a softer side with an Earl and his wife who after 10 years of mostly happy married life, hav no heir.

Not what I expected!

The blurb is a little misleading, in my opinion so I was very surprised where the story went. It's a good book though - great characters - Irene was my personal fave next to Thorne (LOVED him!) But why he couldn't just come clean in the beginning was frustrating. A lot of action, twists and turns that will keep you reading til the end. And you will want to read it til the end. You'll love the characters and hate the villains! I would have liked it more spicy but what it did offer was really really yummy. Also beware, this book is part of a series so you won't get an ending that explains everything.

What a great new series by Kathy L Wheeler! The first book in the "Rebels Lord of London" book is wonderful and I cannot wait to read the next! So much passion, a very puzzling mystery and a great cast of characters makes this one of the top in my "keeper" pile.

Super

What a rollercoaster ride through this book. Salted with kidnapping, murder, and mayhem, laced with the bitter herbs of child abuse in London’s vile underbelly, yet sweetened by the love of Kimpton and Brock for Lorelei and Virginia.
US authors have a bad habit of using modern phrases and Americanisms; this author has fallen into that trap. A knowledgeable editor should pick up on these areas. In addition, the book ended so suddenly that I thought I missed some. So disappointing.
For these flaws I was going to give it 3 stars but I enjoyed this book too much to do that.
Recommend reading it.

DNF.

I CAME HERE EXPECTING ANGST BUT THE BLURB WAS LIKE A CLICK BAIT. Sure the mistress was pregnant but whoever wrote it forgot to mention it wasn't the main hero's baby.

The story started out slowly but built up very quickly. Lorelei suspects her husband Thorne of cheating on her and fathering a child with a lady in town and she also heard rumors that her husband sent him away. Once things come together more and more secrets are revealed and people begin to die. Someone is doing the killing and Thorne is determined to find out who. Good story

Loved this story.

To know how much they love one another and had never said to each other is amazing. But when they figured it out wow. Fantastic read.

Every woman wants a man that loves her above all others. When you find that man, you will do almost anything to keep him. Betrayal is a deal breaker. Lorielie and Thorne must work through a tangled mess. Only their love will see them through it. A HEA story, very tenderly done.

The plot of this novel is fast-paced and involves a narcissistic, demented lord who believes his position in society permits him to treat others as he pleases. There is a mystery to solve, a wife to be appeased, and a crime to prevent. I enjoyed the read, but it does contain some sex scenes which might offend some readers.

Yes! Enjoyed!

If you read the prequel this story and enjoyed the story. Then you will like this story as well. Missing person, love affairs, secrets, murders, and of course love and trust. I hope in next book to read more from character's from this book. One mystery kinda of still awaits. Hmmm!

Note: If you are wanting to read this series, please understand that each book has a cliffhanger ending. Also note that the subject matter, which should have been alluded to in the blurbs, is heinous and not truly revealed until halfway through Book 1.
The Earl’s Error, Book 1 of the Rebel Lords of London series, was, once again, about Lady Lorelei Grey, (this time) the Countess of Kimpton, and her husband Lord Thorne Grey, the Earl of Kimpton.
This book picks up ten years after the prequel, with Lord and Lady Kimpton at odds with one another. Neither had ever declared their feelings for the other, Lorelei's brother was missing, reportedly due to her husband's machinations, and then she learns he had fathered a child with his former mistress.
This book, though it definitely had more information, emotions, and a better storyline than the prequel, once again left much to be desired. while the passion between husband and wife was undeniably strong, the lack of maturity of the characters was apparent in both of them, even if they were ten years older than the first book.
There were so many twists and turns in this story that it boggled the mind. Once the reader was able to decipher the true meaning behind the series, it was appalling enlightenment. The depravity of some of the characters churned the stomach. This was not so much a romance novel as it was a book of despicable and perverted mystery. After nearly reaching the end before such a gross misnomer of the genre was revealed, one couldn't help but finish it to learn the outcome regarding the fate of the characters.
I won't spoil this book for others, but I will say it caused my stomach to heave once the true meaning of the story was brought to light. It definitely did not deserve a two-star rating, let alone a five-star rating.

This book was an intriguing mixture of heat, romance, suspense, mystery, violence, misunderstandings and even elements of depravity. I definitely had trouble putting the book down to do mundane chores like cooking dinner or going to bed. Although the start was a little slow with a series of misunderstandings that could have been cleared up quickly with honest communication, the story and plot evolved into a tense read with ultimately a happy ending for the main couple. Both Lorelei and Thorne were engaging characters but my favourites were the Marquis of Brockway and Lady Maudsley’s children Cecilia and Irene. If you have an aversion to any kind of violence then I would recommend that you skip this book but you will miss a wonderfully written and enthralling story. Some, but not all, of the violence was directed to less than savoury characters and when it was directed to an innocent it was heart wrenching and emotional. I love a book that engages my emotions and this story did that in spades. This novel left the reader with many questions and mysteries still to be answered and I am really looking forward to the next book in the series to explore some of those queries.

Always trust your heart!

A story the shows if you do not confess your feelings and thoughts, all kinds of problems will occur! After being married ten years neither had confessed their true feelings for each other, took danger to bring them out!

A suspenseful read!

It is a romance story embedded in human emotions and actions. I identified with the assumptions, lóve expressed but unsaid, friendship and perseverance. The negative emotions related to desperation and greed were real.

Super unimpressed with this book. This didn't even need to be a book. It needed to be a conversation and we would be done.

Mixed Feelings

The first twenty percent of The Earl's Error by Kathy L. Wheeler had a good beginning, which turned out to be but part one of the story. It was the second part, the rest of the story that became intense, with a complicated story.

Overall, the plot was interesting and absorbing. I liked the heroine better than the hero, but together they made a pretty combustible couple. I also liked the supporting characters, especially the heroine's ladies maid and the hero's best friend.

As to the writing, I have mixed feelings. The style seemed to fluctuate between wordy and concise. When the characters conversed with just a minimum of thoughts and narration, the scenes moved right along. It was the other slower parts that were tedious.

Lastly, the ending was disappointing. Several of the issues in the plot were left unsolved. In fact they were not even addressed, which resulted in an unsatisfying and rushed ending.

Content 411: This book contains secular and religious swearing, one “f” vulgarity, explicit sex, implied rape, implied underage sex and spousal abuse.

This well-written book has a many side plots around the main mystery. What happened to Lorelei's artist brother who mysteriously disappeared? This was never fully resolved. Her best friend who was married to a monster also disappears, while Lorelie wonders during her husband's detective work if he has been unfaithful. Quite descriptive in the steamy scenes but mostly between the married and some gore in the form of wife-abuse and vindictiveness. At times very confusing, shifting between formal, informal, and titled names interrupting the flow of reading to determine who is who at times. Otherwise, a very detailed multi-mystery for those who enjoy this genre.

I just don’t understand why they couldn’t have been honest regarding the rumors from the beginning, it would have saved a lot of time and trouble.

I thought this would be a quick read, but it started to get confusing with the use of the character’s names and titles interchangeably.

The main plotlines were a pregnancy and a missing’s person. Throughout the book it was just a lot of information gathering. There wasn’t much actual action until the end. UNLESS, you count some of those spicy scenes, which I was not expecting at all!

Possible taboos and triggers mentioned in the book. Towards the end, I thought it turned dark really quick. The ending felt like a cliffhanger.

The plot of this book is good. However it is a cliffhanger. It is rather chaotic too. The curious almost laughable part is that the main characters constantly think about having sex no matter how dire the circumstances are. I don’t know if it’s the author’s attempt to include steam in her story or not. But I don’t realistically think the hero looks at his wife and gets an erection as they are contemplating over a dead body! The plot alone was enough to keep the story moving without the constant need for sex.

Twist and turns

This story is filled with twist and turns,.I enjoyed the beginning, but after the hero and heroin were married for 10 years the story became alittle complicated, like.the.brother just disappeared, and it was alittle to winded for me, trying to figure out where he was and if Corinne was really is wife,.and then there's her baby. Well anyways maybe my mind wasn't really on what I was reading.
Thank you ❤️
