As Leo Tolstoy wrote, “Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.” In my view, this author provides a highly effective method to change your mindset and achieve positive results all presented in an exceptionally practical way using only 100 chapters conveniently referenced at the beginning of this extraordinary book.

I highly enjoyed reading “Your Brain Weighs 500 Pounds: Change Your Mindset to Achieve Desired Outcomes” by business executive Derrick Pledger who has written an exceptional book on changing yourself, your mindset, and your attitudes. There are many books on self-improvement nowadays, but what is exceptional about this work and what highly interested me to read it is that Mr. Pledger has been very successful in his life and has “walked the walk” so to speak.

I felt the author provides concise text with high-quality content and powerful tools for overcoming self-doubt, procrastination and overthinking. He shows how to set meaningful goals that positively align with successful outcomes and dealing with setbacks.

One of the things I appreciated most about "Your Brain Weighs 500 Pounds" is its conciseness, clarity and readability. Life has its daily ups and downs, and this very intelligent author understands that well and provides practical and powerful paths to overcome stagnant thinking by revealing new ways to view situations, and produce productive thinking and attitudes.

To show you what I mean here is a brief excerpt on understanding failures not as an end-all but as a “journey”,

“Life Is a Never-Ending Dance with Failure. …Failure is defined as a ‘lack of success or a state of
inability to perform a normal function.’ The problem with the definition is that people think of failure as being confined to a particular event or specific period of time. This could not be further from the truth. We should perceive the word failure in the same way we understand the word journey.”

In my opinion, this creative author provides a unique and practical guide that helped me learn from the journeys I’ve had in my life in a new light. That created new motivation, inspiration and insight. The author tells you to avoid rationalization, be more honest with yourself, get rid of distractions, and discover brand new things about your psyche.

I also found it to be very handy and frankly was surprised a bit at its calming effect - like getting good advice from someone who comprehensively understands. I’m going to use this as an easy reference book to keep on the nightstand to read before sleep or refer to when encountering new waking thoughts.

Mahatma Gandhi once said, “Change yourself - you are in control” and in my view, this book does create a better mindset to deal with stress, feel more in control and comfortably confident.

I also liked the author’s writing style as he goes directly to the point he’s trying to make on each subject.

All in all, I found this book to be refreshing and effective and look forward to reading it again and using it in the future. Very well done. Highly recommended!

It was my pleasure to receive a free copy of this book but that does not in any way affect my opinions in this review of this exceptional book.

Your Brain Weighs 500 Pounds is a short, punchy “mindset manual” built around 100 quick “recipes” for achievement. Derrick R. Pledger frames the brain as a body that can get bloated on junk information, then walks through habits that act like a cleaner diet for the mind: ambition, discipline, focus, better use of time, stronger networks, and relentless learning. The book opens with his own story and closes with a tight list of ten core ideas, like “ambition is good,” “discipline is the foundation of achievement,” and “learn like your life depends on it,” all wrapped in the recurring image of putting your brain on a better diet. Your Brain Weighs 500 Pounds

The book is fast, direct, and often energizing. The recipes are short, usually a few pages, and written in clear language that feels like a coach talking across a table rather than a lecturer at a podium. I liked the way Pledger uses vivid examples like Rocky IV, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s “no Plan B” stance, door-to-door encyclopedia salesmen, and his own 5:02 a.m. wake-up habit. The repetition around themes like discipline, time, and effort worked for me, because it mirrors what the book is preaching: daily, consistent reinforcement. The style leans into grind culture. Lines about weekends not being for leisure or work-life balance being a myth hit with force.

I appreciated how often he takes familiar self-help points and gives them a more concrete angle. The brain-as-diet metaphor made me stop and think about my own habits with news and social media. The “environmental sabotage” chapter on how your living room layout or pantry contents fight your goals felt very practical. I also liked his insistence that success is mostly about serving other people and that your social circle quietly sets your ceiling. The heavy stress on personal responsibility, discipline, and effort felt honest, especially because he is upfront that simply reading the book will not change your life. The stance on things like snooze buttons, casual weekends, or any Plan B can inspire action.

I came away motivated and a bit challenged, in a good way. I would recommend Your Brain Weighs 500 Pounds to readers who like short, no-nonsense motivation, especially people in sales, entrepreneurship, leadership roles, or ambitious students and athletes who respond well to tough-love coaching. It will resonate most with someone who already feels a pull toward “more” and wants daily prompts to stay locked in on that path. If you want a straight-talking playbook that keeps asking you whether your current habits match the life you say you want, this is a perfect book for you.

The book "Your Brain Weighs 500 Pounds" speaks about fifty "mindset manual” recipes handcrafted to challenge your perspectives, biases, and thoughts related to the achievement process. A unique quality of this book is you can pick any chapter and have a read which is both quick and motivational.

As the title hints, we often dump our brain with nugatory dossiers, and we bombard the encephalon with so-called influential mediums aka Social Media Channels, which accompany newsmongers, OTTs in the name of binge-watching and best-loved TV shows/ Web Series.

The author brought this book as a "Brain Diet" of a hundred nourishing and interesting formulae for the benefit of readers. The recipes presented are both thought-provoking and enthralling.
Most importantly, every recipe is just a page, which is a super good point for amateur readers.

Every chunk presented in this serve is a feastful retreat to your brain and helps you with a bunch of life hacks and emotional mastery. A one-line summary will set the tone of the corresponding recipe he defines for this book's clientele.

This book also offers ponderous use cases, exercises, and real-time scenarios that not only question your perspective on life but also assist us with thought process transformations. Derrick rightly addressed many dimensions and standpoints in every recipe which is an undoubted aid to uplift your focus and minimize distractions to climb the ladder of success and to become an unsurpassed leader.

To summarize "Your Brain Weighs 500 Pounds" is a guide to handling your emotions, meeting your goals, disciplining your thoughts, reducing social distractions, maintaining emotional balance, and so on by feeding a nutritional diet to your brain and getting rid of dither smirch.

This book reads like a shopping list with 1-2 paragraphs per rule. It reads like you are talking to a person rather than reading facts. If a short read is what you’re looking for, this is it. If you’re looking for something with more evidence and examples this isn’t the book for you. Most of this is common sense, but sometimes we need to hear it from someone else to make us think about our lifestyles.
