This is my December. I’m not being naive or overly optimistic. I have it on good authority that this year, I will meet my soulmate and fall madly in love. The matchmaker who raised me said that it’ll happen by this Winter’s Solstice. Merry Christmas to me, right?
Wrong.
Because the man who just slid into my kitchen at midnight, unarmed me with his charming smile, and lit me up while licking frosting from my fingers is the newest investor in The TimeKeeper Inn. Gray Turner, the disgraced professional baseball player, wants to renovate and take over the place I call home.
There’s no way that he could possibly be “the one,” even if I do happen to feel some kind of magic every time he’s near. I’ll ignore the fact that his gruff and stoic demeanor melts away only for me. I have to remind myself that I need to keep my heart open for my soulmate because Gray isn't staying. I want that forever kind of love. But what if forever isn’t part of our plan?
What if soulmate-level love is just for the holidays?
Forever a hopeful romantic, I write deliciously witty and wild characters. My stories range from small-town swoon-worthy men to fiercely powerful families and lead characters who aren't afraid to ask for what they want.
You will always find a little bit of fate, a whole lot of steam, and a wildly romantic ride.
Cute novella set in a town I would absolutely love to visit in Maine! Spice was ok, but gave 3 as the intensity was pushed by Aurora when Gray given the opportunity of a lifetime….. like why couldn’t she decide or offer to move with him? I get it but he was sacrificing for her what about her for him? Body only? Yes throw the shame but for real, give a little more!
A uniquely descriptive and picturesque small town in Maine perfect for a winter time read. A MLB player suffering from an injury, a soulful, sassy matchmaker, and a beautiful Palm reader with hobbies in cooking, baking, who creates homemade soaps and salves. Dream about the lighthouse and its views while enjoying some hot sipping chocolate, mulled wine and hot toddies. You easily get caught up in the friends and new business partners of the TimeKeeper Inn.
It’s a sweet romance with a pinch of spice, where magic is all around to sweep right into this amazing friendly little town.
Like every good Holiday Romance, it takes place in a small town. There's a little bit of fate and a whole lot of chemistry that brings them together. The winter solstice holds a little bit of magic in this place. It was fun to watch it all play out.
Gray is in a tough place as he transitions his career from player to coach. He and his brother are investing in a small coastal town but he's not planning to stay too long. But the Timekeeper Inn is where his parents met and fell in love, so there's just something that draws him there.
Aurora runs an inn with her adoptive mother and she is a bit dismayed that outsiders are butting into her livelihood. But then she meets Gray and they have an intense moments of insta-lust and she thinks maybe, just maybe, he could be the ONE. The one that fate has promised her.
So yeah, this story is a lot of insta-lust. But that's how novellas often go. I enjoyed their chemistry and the small town vibes. It was a nice story to pass the time.
Narrated in Duet Style by Tor Thom & Savannah Peachwood. They brought the story to live so well!
4 stars 3 on the spice scale
*Thank you to the author for an ALC of this title.*
3.5 stars. December Midnights is a holiday novella, small town, grumpy x sunshine, soulmates, and has a bit of winter solstice magic and matchmaking!
This takes place in Maine and is the story of Aurora + Gray. They definitely have an immediate connection to one another and it was so fun seeing that spark between them and realizing how perfect they are together. He’s a former pro baseball player who suffered from an injury and is grumpy. He comes to Maine, to the place where his parents met years ago, and becomes a new business partner for Timekeeper Inn. She knows December is her month to find her HEA and as soon as she sees Gray, she knows it’s going to be him!
We get protective vibes and some “no one talks to her like that” moments. Their romance is both sweet and spicy and I liked their meet cute moment when she asks him to help taste test some baked goods in the kitchen. Audiobook is narrated by Savannah Peachwood and Tor Thom!
The way that I was immediately sucked into this novella. If you know me, you know I go into my books completely blind. I pretty much devoured this novella.
Think Practical Magic meets spicy novella by the ocean. I loved Gray and Aurora's immediate connection and going on the journey of them realizing they were meant for each other.
This is another one to add to your Holiday reading list! Thank you Victoria for the early copy!
Honestly, this book was adorable and it makes an amazing audiobook. The voices really bring this story to life and is very nice! 😍 I am happy I got an ALC!
What a sweet & spicy novella and just in time for Christmas! Such a cozy, magical, sweet and a little spicy read! Absolute perfection! I love how sexy the main characters were and the narrators in the audiobook did such a beautiful job. I listened to the audiobook while I followed along to the book and I’m so glad I did. The narrators made this book come to life. I love the witchy references that were sprinkled lightly in this book as well. A 5 star rating from me with no hesitation. I will be rereading this novella every winter.
Practical Magic meets Hollow Heathens, centered around soulmates, magic, a lighthouse, and the winter solstice. This was such a fun and sexy read. I wish this had been a whole book for Gray and Aurora. As these characters and town were a delight. I can't wait for Luna and West's story.
I read this novella last year, and it was one of my absolute favs - when I saw the ALC sign up I jumped at the chance, and it did not disappoint!
📖 December Midnights by Victoria Wilder 🎙 duet narration by Savannah Peachwood & Tor Thom 🎄 holiday novella (152pgs)
⭐️: 5/5 🌶️: open door, several scenes
💭 overall thoughts: This book was pure MAGIC. I tend to read really quickly, and for some reason the energy of this book had me wanting to slow down and take my time with it.
The connection between Aurora & Gray, and the magic of the lighthouse & inn were so lovely to read.
🎙 audiobook thoughts: I’m obsessed with duet narration, and both narrators did a FANTASTIC job bringing Aurora, Gray, and all the side characters to life!
read if you love: 🫶🏻 soulmates with an instant attraction 💫 a little magic ⚾️ former pro baseball player + inn keeper 🌦 grumpy sunshine/opposites attract ❄️ small town 💞 dual 1st person pov
Thank you author Victoria Wilder & The Author Agency for an advanced audio copy. All opinions are my own.
This was a cute story! It gave off all the best Practical Magic vibes! It was a great audiobook!
Aurora was raised by a matchmaker who always told her about the magic surrounding the Timekeeper Inn and lighthouse. On certain December nights people will encounter their soulmates. For Aurora she knows that this year is her year for meeting her soulmate. When a handsome stranger stumbles upon her, she’s certain he’s the one, but what if he isn’t?
Gray hasn’t been in a relationship in years. He came to the Oceanside town of Wild Tide to upgrade the businesses and finally get away from his very public breakup. He wasn’t looking for love but there’s something magical in the town he just can’t fight.
I love the concept of soulmates and I really enjoyed the sweet and spicy relationship between Gray and Aurora. They shouldn’t work but somehow they are perfect for each other.
I loved all of the magic through out the story! It’s subtle but everything lead them back to each other!
If you love magical holiday romances with spice, go add 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐌𝐢𝐝𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐛𝐲 𝐕𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚 𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫, to your TBR today! The audiobook was really well done so I definitely recommend it!
Such a sweet little holiday novella from one of my favorite authors. If you are a fan of insta love and Practical Magic this is for you!
Gary’s character was so gruff and broody which are my favorite type of mmc’s. He has been burned by an ex and now all he wants to do is blend in and go on with his life. As an ex baseball star, anonymity is hard to come by, but in this quiet small town, he finds something he never expected… SOULMATE LEVEL LOVE.
Aurora is a free spirit, she never takes life too seriously but always listens to what the universe is telling her. And this December it’s telling her Gray is THE ONE.
It was a quick and easy listen. The narration was phenomenal and I felt like voice actors brought the story to life.
Thank you Victoria Wilder for the opportunity to listen to this ALC!!

I went into this expecting some insta lust / insta love given it’s a novella. The hint of magic and matchmaking was a fun add to the story I didn’t expect. everything moves fast in terms of the romance but they’re soulmates so why waste any time. I liked how the characters handled everything and while the fmc believed in all the magic, the mmc didn’t question it. They both felt something for each other the first second they laid eyes on each other and didn’t fight it.
I’ve come to really enjoy Victoria Wilder’s writing after reading the Bourbon Boys series and now this. I am definitely going to go back to read her whole backlist.
🏡 small town 🤍 age gap (10+ years, he’s older) 🤭 strangers to lovers 🔥 insta lust ✨ a little bit of magic
This was an interesting holiday novella mixed with a little magic.
Gray is an ex pro baseball player, and he has moved to Wild Tide, Maine, to be a new business partner for the Timekeeper Inn. He is in a pretty negative frame of mind time after he had a bad injury and could no longer play professionally. Aurora is running the inn, and she has an intense meet-cute with Gray, and the attraction is instant. She knows December is meant to be the time she finds her soul mate, so she is hopeful that Gray is "THE ONE" when they have such a strong connection.
This was a quick novella and mostly insta-lust, but I was ok with it for how short it was.
The audiobook had duet narration by Tor Thom and Savannah Peachwood, which is always a favorite for me. Duet narration always makes the banter and spicy scenes better. I love Tor Thom's voice!
Thank you to The Author Agency for providing the ALC.
*audio reread* Tor Thom and Savannah Peachwood did a phenomenal job with these two! Absolutely loved the audio

This book. This book right here. Top three holiday novella for me and if you know me you know I have a LOT of those under my wing. I absolutely fell in love with the magical vibes and this quaint little town.
Insta love/lust can be a turn off for me in a book but it was done SO well with this one. I don't want to go into to much detail and get close to spoilers.
The spice. 🥵🥵🥵. “𝑶𝒓 𝒅𝒐 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒎𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒍 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝑰’𝒅 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒄𝒖𝒎 𝒔𝒎𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒅 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒎𝒚 𝒎𝒐𝒖𝒕𝒉 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒃𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒅 𝒔𝒐 𝑰 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒔𝒎𝒆𝒍𝒍 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒇𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒘𝒆’𝒗𝒆 𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒔𝒉𝒆𝒅?” Do I need to say more?!
Read this one. Especially read this one if magic and witchy things bring you joy ❄️🫶.
3✨ this was cute in theory but a little dramatic and cringe. sometimes novellas are just like that but what can you do. gray was hot, loved the beard. he was also really dirty which was fun. i really enjoyed aurora’s optimism for finding love. the matchmaking thing was unique. ultimate a fun enough & quick read.
thank you victoria for the ALC 🫶🏼 the narrators did a great job!

Thank you so much Author Victoria Wilder, for the beautiful opportunity for sending me an ALC of “December Midnight” A holiday Novella✨🎄 Narrated by (Tor Thom & Savannah Peachwood) 5⭐️✨Audiobook!!! I truly enjoy this audiobook so much instantly captured by the narrators’s voices and I adore their expressions as they capture their character’s moments and emotions so profoundly!! Each character was filled with excitement & laughter and cinnamon bun sweet moments that I admire so much by the two main characters that keeps you engrossed & held into your seat keeping you captivated by the Author’s creativity throughout this tale that also happens to be a steamy holiday romance🩷 merging the magic of Practical Magic with festive delight! Grumpy x Sunshine=(Chef kisses✨💋) Charming small-town ambiance! With banters of Meant-to-be soulmates🥹💕 A spellbinding Winter Solstice + Christmas celebration!!
“DECEMBER MIDNIGHT” Stars two lovable main characters- (Aurora🌸 & Gray Turner💫) Victoria Wilder, begins her lovely story as Aurora, has her mind set that she isn’t being naive to new things she has a reliable source. Her mom♥️the ultimate matchmaker, her mom says she will meet her perfect match by Winter's Solstice. Aurora thought, 'Merry Christmas to me!' But then Gray Turner, the scandalous baseball player, walks into her life & into her kitchen at midnight, armed with nothing but his disarming smile & attracted demeanor👀✨And to make matters more complicated, he's the new investor in The TimeKeeper Inn. It's impossible that he's my forever person, no matter how enchanted I feel in his presence. I'll brush off the way his tough exterior melts away only when we're together. Aurora, decides she needs to keep her heart available for her true soulmate, because Gray is just a temporary presence in my life. I'm yearning for that is once-in-a-lifetime love. But what if forever isn't meant for us? What if soulmate-level love is just a holiday fantasy? And there is only one way one to find out what happens next and that is by reading this lovely Holiday Novella you will truly enjoy and also especially as an audiobook✨🤩 but not only does that author writes a wonderful plot she expresses that same love for her main characters! Gray Turner! Don't let Gray's tough exterior fool you - he's a total softie at heart, and it's never more apparent than when he's with Aurora🩷🌸The way he loves and cares for her is truly special and endearing. He's always there for her, showing her love, affection, and devotion 🥹🩷. I'm absolutely smitten with them!! ✨♥️and to my girlie✨💕- Aurora’s character is a masterful blend of passion and love, making her irresistibly charming as the story progresses. The author's portrayal of her love for Gray is both poignant and beautiful, highlighting the transformative power of true love and the unbreakable bond between two loving souls🩵💫
“I feel it with you, Gray. Time doesn’t matter. But I’ll take those promises you’re giving. I’m ready.” Gray Turner✨💋
Definitely listen to official audiobook for (DECEMBER MIDNIGHTS)✨🎄💋♥️ ASAP for an amazing holiday novella that leaves you feeling you only want to read holiday tales all throughout the holidays💫 And you can do just that by visiting the author’s social media @authorvictorawilder and also get the chance to see other amazing books by her and fall in love with them😄💕
This was a quick, cute, spicy, and fun holiday read with a magical twist, and I enjoyed it. Tor Thom and Savannah Peachwood have done a great job with the duet narration.
After a very public breakup with a pop star and a career-ending injury that altered the course of his life without his say in the matter, Gray wants nothing more than to escape the limelight and the invasion of his personal life in the media. He decides to spend this time in a small town in Maine, the place where his parents met and fell in love, and has always held a special place in his heart. When his latest investment in town makes him the part owner of the TimeKeeper Inn, he comes across Aurora.
Aurora runs the TimeKeeper Inn with her adoptive aunt Tash, who has informed her that this December is supposed to be her month to find her soulmate during the winter solstice. Misinterpreting Gray as the person coming for her, she kisses him before she finds out he's the new owner of the place she calls home. She tries to navigate this new reality while trying to figure out this intense connection she feels towards him and what his presence means for her future.
I liked the bond that grew between Gray and Aurora. After being in a rough place for so long and feeling lost in his life with all that was going on, Gray had a lot to think about, and there was some self-reflection too. As someone who had based his worth on his ability to be a baseball player for far too long, he needed to come to terms with the fact that he would be accepted for him as a person. That he could love and want more than one thing in life.
Aurora has spent her life on the sidelines of the town, never feeling like she truly belonged. Deep down, she's always wanted to find her person. The one who she feels complete with, at peace with, and like she's found her home. So when she realizes that this December will be her time to find her soulmate, she's thrilled.
Their romance did pick up quickly since it's a novella, but I still liked them together and their chemistry. Their flirting and banter was cute, and these two had a way of knowing what the other needed, which felt more like a natural instinct and added to the magical theme of the book. I liked how Gray stood up for her even when he barely knew her and how he adored her mind and her skills for all the things she loved to create. I also liked that he wasn't above apologizing when he knew he'd messed up. I liked how she took care of Gray. How she made him feel seen and appreciated for him as a person. She was understanding and patient with him and also reassured him when needed.
The spice was well written, and I loved how both were open to asking for what they wanted. Gray had a commanding way about him, which was hot, and I also liked Aurora for not being shy or holding back. Although the use of the term frosting in that context here instantly gave me the ick.
Thank you to Victoria Wilder and The Author Agency for providing the ALC in exchange for an honest review💗
3.5 ⭐️ (better than 3, but definitely not enough for 4, so I'm torn here)
Victoria Wilder’s December Midnights delivers a story as moody and magnetic as the rugged Maine coastline it’s set against. This novella brims with charged interactions, fiery connections, and just enough magic to keep you on edge, wondering if destiny truly has a hand in love.
Gray, a former baseball star nursing old wounds, arrives in Wild Tide to manage a family investment, The Timekeeper Inn. Aurora, the innkeeper raised by a sharp-eyed matchmaker (also known as the witch), has been told this is the year she’ll meet her soulmate. So, when Gray walks through her door, their interactions are far from tender—they’re explosive, laced with sharp words and even sharper tension.
The romance between Aurora and Gray is intense and electric. Wilder crafts scenes that practically crackle, balancing their clashes with undeniable chemistry. The magical realism woven throughout the story adds a subtle, intriguing backdrop without overshadowing the characters’ dynamic. Despite the tropey insta-lust beginning, their relationship unfolds naturally, keeping the reader invested.
Where the novella falters is in its emotional resolution. Gray’s pivotal realisation about Aurora should have been the story’s crowning moment, but it falls flat. The dialogue and inner monologue lack the depth and impact needed to fully sell the transformation from lust to love, making it feel like a missed opportunity in an otherwise vivid and engaging novella.
Even with its shortcomings, December Midnights remains a compelling, spicy read that explores the unpredictable paths love can take. For readers who enjoy heated dynamics and just a hint of magic, this novella offers a satisfying escape.
This was super cute! It’s like if Practical Magic was a Christmas book basically lol. This was actually my first Victoria Wilder and I was pleasantly surprised. I like her writing quite a bit and I definitely want to read more of her work now - I’m lookin’ at you Bourbon and Lies haha.
My only issues were that I’m not an insta love girl, and while it is more common in novellas and I can usually handle it, the insta love here was way too much for me. The FMC also ended up getting way too pushy and cringe for me in the third act when the MMC started to question things - homegirl needed to cool the crazy a touch lol. The only other real problem was the use of the word frosting in regard to some very particular bodily fluids. I didn’t think I’d be adding that one to my ick list buuuut here we are. Gross.
If you’re an insta love and Practical Magic kinda girlie, you’ll absolutely eat this up and I would definitely recommend it. Not about the insta love? Well, don’t say I didn’t warn ya lol. Overall it was a cute, quick holiday read and I did have fun with it!
At around ~160 pages, this is a magical little holiday novella that can be read pretty quick, which is a win for our 2023 GR challenge, although I was wishing this read had a little bit more magic and a little bit more holiday.
I thought I saw this had some Practical Magic vibes, so I went in hoping some witchy stuff, but the magic came more into play in terms of matchmaking.
The relationship between the main characters was sweet and steamy, and I understand the matchmaking element comes into double play here, but the relationship was also SUPER insta-lust at the very beginning (you’ll see what I mean if you read LOL), so I felt a little cheated out of a more substantial meet cute.
But if you’re looking for something with easily digestible writing that flows quick and a sugary steamy romance with a blink and you miss it third-act separation, try this out for yourself!
This little novella felt very atmospheric and it was a fun time listening! It was only a couple hours on audio and is great for adding a little magic to your holiday TBR.
I loved the practical magic vibes and the soulmates aspect of this. Right from the beginning you could feel the connection between Gray and Aurora and I loved how forward Aurora was with it all! And Gray definitely brought the spice, let me tell ya! The grumpy/sunshine worked so well for these two and of course we love when our hero softens around the holidays!
Overall, a cute and fun holiday novella if you're looking for something quick and spicy!
DNF at 75% something just felt off, like it was missing something. I don’t know if that’s because it was insta lust, and very fast paced, which seemed choppy in some places. I also didn’t connect with any of the characters.
Tad dramatic, but the word “frosting” is ruined for me, it was mentioned in a spicy scene, which is where I dnf’d it at.
December Midnights is a special little holiday read!
Matchmaking, palm reading and a very playful meet cute. Gray and Aurora are a magic pair in this picturesque small town. I loved this novella and continue to enjoy Victoria Wilder's writing.

*ARC REVIEW* This is such a cute little spicy Christmas novella with a little sprinkle of magic! If you need a good book to get into the holiday spirit 😏 I recommend!
🎧Listened to this ALC. This was kindly sent to me and it was my first audiobook ever, listened to it while working. Such a cute novella to start my audiobook journey with (but i am still a physical copy girlie) i loved the narration and that it was a duet. But it was so hard to listen to spicy scenes!! For some reason reading it is so much better. Cute story overall and a new experience for me.
AUDIO REVIEW: I’m new to Tor Thom and I really enjoyed him. Love his voice, the tone and depth. Great at displaying emotion. Savannah Peachwood killed it as always. The calming of her voice matches Aurora. The innocence and wonder shine. It felt very authentic. I read the ARC last year and this ALC was even more delightful. It also reminded me I really need West’s story!
Thank you for the ARC, Victoria.
“This is my December,”
Aurora is waiting for the one. Eagerly. She knows fate is working hard on her behalf and December is her time. She is a sweet, good hearted & deeply emotional person. Creative and kind. Gray is a bit of the opposite. A career ending injury took away the thing that made him feel whole. He also hasn’t had the best luck with women and basically just cut them off. But fate has a little surprise for him. This holiday novella is delightful and whimsical, offering a touch of magic with a happily ever after that leaves you smiling. Novella’s aren’t always my favorite because sometimes I’m left feeling like I need more, or something was missing. That’s not the case here. Victoria wrote a great story that leaves an impression. You get it all. An interesting plot, wonderful characters, a nice side of spice and a whole lot of happiness. Now of if I could just get a little help from the goddesses for my own trip to Wild Tide…
“Those moments are for me.”
“Tell me what you see while I tell you what I feel.”
“I’ve been a believer almost my entire life. Love, magic, things you can’t explain or see. The stuff you can feel.”
“It’s not just my December. It’s ours.”
“Magic doesn’t have to be something tangible, or even regarded as special, but it does exist.”
Re-read this via audio- highly recommend! The narrators are perfect for these characters.

Looking for a magical holiday novella? Then look no further- Ms Wilder has you covered!
I wasn’t sure what to expect when Victoria shared that there was a little magic in this book, but it gave it such a unique and interesting twist. It’s unlike anything I’ve read before and she did it so well. I was hooked from the beginning and even more so from Gray and Aurora’s first meeting!
Gray is a grumpy ex pro baseball player who is going through a rough time and seeks solace in Wild Tide, Maine, where he and his brother own some investments. One of those is The Timekeeper Inn, which Aurora runs with her adoptive mother who is also a matchmaker. Aurora is such a likeable character, you can’t help but fall for her and she is exactly what Gray needs. But is he the soulmate she is hoping to meet this December?
Thank you Victoria for the ARC in exchange for my honest review. I really hope that epilogue was giving us a preview of the next book in this series!
