Mini-Review: Is cozy gothic fantasy a genre? If not, this author appears to have invented it. I absolutely ADORED this book. I adore an urban fantasy with magic bureaucracy and this one is a HOOT. This doesn't have grumpy and sunshine; it has grumpy and GRUMPIER. The sarcasm and banter are absolutely what make this portal fantasy shine. The story's charm lies in its wit, humor, and characters. It's one of the most unique books I've ever read and I was obsessed with it from the first chapter. In addition to making me laugh aloud several times, there were poignant moments of abandonment and childhood trauma that really resonated with me. Featuring a fey warden, a seer, a banshee, selkies, a Black Dog, and other fairy lore - it's not one that you want to miss. A truly unique and captivating read that stands out for its humor, characters, and imaginative world-building. 10/5 stars.

Full review:
"The Fey Hotel" by Vermilion H. Baine takes readers on an enchanting journey into a mysterious inn hidden on the western coast. Avalon, tasked with restoring the inn, harbors a secret identity that could bring about her (and her sister's) downfall. As she crosses paths with Elden, the reluctant manager of the hotel, their fates become intertwined in a slow-burn portal fantasy romance with delightful forced proximity. The BANTER is amazing. They are both grumpy and irritable and I adore that Elden calls Avalon 'feral' as a nickname. The shoe fits.

This book is a delightful surprise, blending humor and coziness with deep emotional exploration and complex family dynamics. The narrative weaves dark events that tug at the heartstrings, creating a story that is both charming and gut-punchingly emotional. The characters' previous traumas are handled with care, making me deeply invested in them.

The novel successfully captures the essence of fairytales and kind of a rom-com feel, making it a must-read for those who enjoy a blend of magical realism and romance. The fey elements add a touch of unsettling magic reminiscent of classic fairytales. After this enchanting experience, I find myself eagerly anticipating ANY AND ALL future works by this author.

Thank you to the author and R&R Booktours for the copy. All opinions are my own.

✨ The Fey Hotel by Vermilion H. Baine ✨

Key Tropes:
💜 Enemies to Lovers
✨ Found Family
💜 Elemental Magic
✨ Slow Burn
💜 Dual POV

Characterization: Avalon, the protector, the big sister, and the anxious af person she is, is someone I wholeheartedly identify with. Add in her sass and take no sass demeanor, she’s a fabulous FMC. She is strong willed, determined, and one of the better female heroines I have seen described in a fantasy book. Her growth isn’t one confined by her help from others, namely a male, but from her own realization that she doesn’t have to do things alone. Elden is a grump and I absolutely adore his arc throughout. To say much more would be a spoiler!!

Storyline: FINALLY A FANTASY BOOK OF THE PERFECT LENGTH! It’s not too short — where it’s almost unreasonable how much happens — and it’s not too long where things are constantly repeated (cough cough some other fantasy series cough cough). Everything felt like it built into the next and as for world building, it was clear, easy to follow, and made sense. The suspension of disbelief wasn’t hard for this book considering how grounded in reality it is.

Writing Style: This is NOT a comedy, but oh gosh golly, I could feel the sarcasm and banter and wit oozing from the pages. There are so many fabulous, quippy one-liners that shows while it’s a serious book, there’s time for softness and laughter too. The Beauty and the Beast comment — absolute perfection! 💕

Spice: 🌶️
Recommend: Yes.
Audience: For anyone who enjoys fantasy, but can’t commit to a whole series, this is excellent. For my friends who dislike fantasy, but can follow mythology, read — this is not a traditional fantasy read in all the best ways.

💕 Special thanks for Vermilion for including me on the ARC team in exchange for an honest review! 💕

Avalon solemnly held up a s’more, her eyes wide and falsely naïve. “Can you even eat this with dentures?” Her joke must have hit a sore spot. “Dentures,” Elden loudly repeated as Lyra left to wash her hands of sticky, marshmallow residue. Avalon couldn’t keep a smirk from forming— he was clearly livid about her overestimating his age and it was such a silly thing to be enraged about. That only made it all the better.

This book was an absolute delight to read. I found myself extremely invested in the story at every turn to the point, I literally just started recording my theories about what was going to happen as I was reading. I was beginning to feel like this guy:

and boy was it so gratifying when some of my initial theories were right. Without a doubt Vermilion knows how to tell a story and I cannot wait for everyone to get their hands on The Fey Hotel. This book had the perfect amount of bits that just made me laugh that lifted the tension when things took darker turns or may have otherwise been too much tension which created the perfect balance.

The relationship build of these characters was also given at what felt like the perfect pace and we I didn't feel overwhelmed by instant attraction or unrealistic feeling attraction. We had this really great connection made with the characters and a relationship that wasn't just an intimate it was built with emotional growth and experiences.

This book follows to main characters Avalon and Elden. Elden had lost his mom and was thrown managing a magical hotel quite quickly and is very much failing at that task so he seeks out the help of a hotel consulting firm. This is where he meets Avalon. Avalon and her sister pack right up and head over to Hotel on the Moor to get to work.

In the beginning of the book we learn that Odele, Avalon’s sister, is a banshee and where they currently live she spends a lot of time whaling in the night and if we’re being honest Avalon is exhausted as she’s the one who always comforts her. This is definitely not without it’s consequences, Avalon suffers from some hearing loss from many nights of Odele’s wailing.

Some of the tropes you can find in this book:
📖He Falls First
📖Enemies (not like mortal enemies) to Lovers
📖Humans & Fey
📖 Grumpy x Grumpy
📖 Witty Banter
📖 Slow Burn
📖 Dual POV

I received this book as an arc and I absolutely loved it!

Normally, I read way too quickly and end up forgetting most of what I read within a week of finishing. This time, I purposefully took my time reading this as part of Vermilion’s ARC team so I could fully immerse myself in the story.

The Fey Hotel was spellbinding from start to finish, with a world that fits magically within our world- one of my favorite types of fantasy storytelling. The seamless blend of vivid world-building and compelling characters draws readers into an enchanting journey. The chemistry between Avalon and Elden is sassy, magical and genuine, adding depth to the narrative.

The author's storytelling prowess weaves a tapestry of adventure, mystery, and emotion- and forces you to fall for each character individually. A five-star escape into a fantastical realm that I’ll be adding to my comfort reads in the future.

This was an amazing book from start to finish.

It had romance, fantasy, a sprinkle of enemies to lovers and adventure.

I love the balance between dark and light. It touched subject that can be heavy but in a lighthearted way. It was adventurous but also a small town romance. It’s not often that you find a romantasy book as a stand alone but this I definitely it.

I loved the characters and I loved the story! The book was not too short and not too long. Just perfect!

Can’t wait to see what Vermilion will write next but I’m definitely keeping and eye out 😃✨

And a thank you to Vermilion for letting me be a part of your ARC team. For letting me read this book before the release for an honest review 💕

The Fey Hotel is a modern fantasy romance filled with interesting characters, magic, and (my favorite) grumpy-grumpy lovers.

In the two POVs we have Avalon, the seer changeling who really only wants to do her hotel management and never socialize beyond what’s required for her job.

We also have the tall, dark, and eternally handsome Elden who also broods, and yet since the moment they meet, cannot quite seem to deny Avalon much of anything.

He broods, she broods, and truly, my favorite part of this book was their banter back and forth as they slipped into loving each other, both at least at a little bit of resistance.

Avalon’s world is turned around as she discovers this hotel her and her sister are working for is actually at the gateway to the feylands and Elden is the warden of the entrance.

Hilarity, mystery, danger, and romance ensue in this standalone magical world this author has woven into a fantastic story that fantasy romance readers will love.

This book was given to me as an ARC by the author.

Thank you VHB for an ARC copy of this book for an honest review! This was a great debut novel!

I extremely enjoyed this book and all the amazing bomb drops and plot twists.

Avalon and her sister are trying to make do in a world filled with humans and fey. However they need to keep a low profile while doing so. They work in the hospitality industry and find themselves with a job at Elden’s family hotel. Once there, their whole world is turned upside down and revelations occur.

You do not want to miss out on this, I promise!!

This slow burn romance with banter between the two MCs will leave you wanting more. Their bickering and sexual tension is EVERYTHING!

Elden is such a grump and eventually steams touch her and die vibes.

The relationship between Avalon, her sister, and heir family is a little toxic but who doesn’t have drama sometimes?

I also loved the strong willed character out of Avalon and even her sister. Add in the hot grumpy Fey and it is chefs kiss!

Please read this book, you will enjoy it!

PS: can’t wait for more VHB!

The story was too slow making it hard for me to keep up with the plot. The characters were interesting enough to keep me going until 49% when I realized that I am not entirely sure what was happening anymore. Although I think other readers will enjoy such pacing but it is not just for me; The writing style of the author is good; I know that they really worked hard for it and did their best to develop everything. The world building is also good. But it's really just too slow for my liking.

💎 Thank you author for the eARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own and I am leaving my review voluntarily.

If you're looking for a romantasy that has cozy vibes and evolves into so much more, read the Fey Hotel! And to entice you even more, the MMc is a dog person 🐶😍 I really cannot believe it's a debut novel 🤯 I will be reading allllll the books by this author in the future.

Avalon and her sister Odele help bring struggling hotels back to life, all while keeping their feyrie heritage a secret. They are sent to the Pacific Northwest to help the grumpy and secretive Elden with the inn he inherited, and they get so much more than they bargained for. I absolutely loved the MMC and FMC interactions. Their banter is just *chef's kiss* 🤌🏼 We're given just the right amount of backstory at just the right points in the novel. Both MCs have some issues to work through when they meet, and I'm sure y'all will enjoy seeing that play out as much as I did 💙

Since most of the story takes place at the Inn, there's not a whole lot of worldbuilding that needs to happen. I think we got the perfect amount for this cozy story. I literally have no critiques here, I loved The Fey Hotel! Thank you so much for a copy of the book 💙💙

*4.5 Stars*

The Fey Hotel did not disappoint and I enjoyed it thoroughly. There are so many things going for it, including a realistic romance, a cute giant dog, an intriguing political system (existing between the fey and the humans), sisterly loyalty and love, family dysfunction, dangerous creatures, and lots of unexpected action scenes. To be fair, I am not your typical romance reader as I gravitate more towards horror and thriller/suspense, but I was in the mood for some cozy fantasy and I am so glad I gave this one a shot.

Both Avalon and Elden were fun characters and I enjoyed learning more about them as the story progressed. Avalon was quite sassy and witty, and I liked how she held her own against the fey creatures she had to deal with as the story progressed. Elden, who sort of reminded me of Thor (at least that was the picture that kept forming in my head) because he wielded this huge axe and wore his armour all the time, being the warden to the portal of the fey lands. Both characters were immensely relatable, were charming and were so much fun to read about.

While I did like all of the other characters, even the enemies, I don't quite feel they were as developed as Avalon and Elden, and I especially had a beef with the way Odele was portrayed some of the time. It was revealed right from the beginning that Odele was a banshee and when the arrived at the inn, she craved her personal space and needed time to develop her own friendships. I found her interesting and wanted to learn more about her as she was the cause of one of Avalon's afflictions, but then one incident happened and suddenly, her personality shifted without warning, and I was baffled by the change. Although I understood the motives, I didn't like the change and the behaviour she exhibited because it was quite contrary to before and it didn't make sense to me. I get the author was trying to portray how close the sisters were and how they protected each other, but this came close to obsessiveness, possessiveness, and being cringe-worthy.

The story the author created was fun, full of banshees, witches, fey, will-o'-the-wisps, naiads, gorgons, humans, and other magical beings. I thought the writing was great, slowly revealing the world and its issues to the reader, letting us figure out things as we read, letting us explore with Avalon as she learned about the fey lands. There were lots of twists and turns, and I was pleasantly surprised by the complexity of the plot. The pacing of the story was on point, and the big stories were given time to develop and expand while the smaller mysteries were solved quickly and efficiently. There is still some big mystery behind all the events happening in this book, but the overall ending is satisfying.

The Fey Hotel was a fantastic read. The world building and character development were good, and the story moved along quickly with some interesting twists and turns. If you are a fan of portal fantasies, slow-burn romance, fantasy, some political intrigue, then this book is definitely for you. I can't wait to get my hands on the second book in this series.

I would like to thank the author for a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

ARC Review for The Fey Hotel.

First and foremost, I am not your typical romance, fey, or fantasy book reader. I discovered Vermilion via Tik Tok. Her descriptions of the plot, characters, and the setting of her debut novel, The Fey Hotel, lured me in like a moth to an outside porch light. I became instantly invested, feeling the allure of this cozy, romantic fantasy right away. I signed up for an ARC copy, and I’m so glad I did!

The Fey Hotel truly stands on its own two legs. I have never read a novel quite like this where the lines between reality, fantasy, and the supernatural blur so seamlessly. The world Vermilion has crafted feels very reminiscent of our own, but the existence of the fey, banshees, witches, and more, adds a complexity that I truly enjoyed, devouring every lore-filled paragraph with delight. My favorite chapter, involving certain creatures of a certain mythology, had me believing I was in the feylands myself.

Avalon, a sassy, loving, overbearing but protective, woman meets Elden, the grumpy and standoffish innkeeper of a Pacific Northwestern hotel. Both main characters were charming, comedic, and likeable, immensely likeable. It’s easy to sometimes craft characters in slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers romance books who are annoying. Not here. Avalon and Elden held my attention for the whole duration, especially Elden and his giant axe. I was just waiting for him to channel his inner-Kratos voice, which he did a few times (gamer-speak, sorry. LOL.). Now, with that being said, I was annoyed by some side characters at certain times, but there was a purpose in having those characters act that way that didn’t take away from the overarching narrative.

The setting had me feeling like I was actually in a snowy, northwestern state being assailed by frigid winds that would sweep through my clothing to chill my bones. This is an absolutely PERFECT read for the winter season. You’ll want to cuddle up next to a fireplace as you read it.

The plot is well formulated. Vermilion drops important mysteries early on that expand during the book, ultimately building to an epic conclusion. Some challenges or hardships that were presented for the characters to overcome were, sometimes, quickly and easily handled, but the main plot elements that needed and deserved time are given such. The pacing is wonderful, swift, and bite-sized.

Vermilion writes romance, comedy, drama, and heart-felt scenes extremely well and with enough detail that is just enough. I found myself lost in the conversations that the characters were having, engaged by their wit, their strife, and their demeanors. The romance is wholesome. The spice is low, but it’s still so good! My favorite spicy scene involved a beach and flaring tempers.

One criticism I will make, though it’s not a major one, is the writing style of the action scenes. I felt like some of the battles, with both sword and magic, could’ve been further expanded upon and detailed. They went rather quickly, but this is coming from a guy who is all about the fighting and bloodshed, a guy who thrives on the extreme, so I can’t count off points for my subjective preferences. This book has a decent amount of action, enough to keep me satisfied between the romance and dramatic chapters.

Vermilion is definitely bound for great things with The Fey Hotel being her debut novel. She’s a tremendous author, and I’m elated I was able to read her spectacular story. I could sense the heart and passion in her words. It also helps that Vermilion is a kind and humble person. I expect big and exciting things from this up-and-coming author!

If you’re a fan of fey stories, romance, fantasy, portal fantasies, enemies-to-lovers, and a nice slow burn that pays off brilliantly at the end, The Fey Hotel is for you. Give this book, and Vermilion, a chance. You will be just as impressed as me, I promise.

I give The Fey Hotel 5 out of 5 stars. This book is a great first outing by Vermilion. I can’t wait to see what’s next.

The Fey Hotel is a fantasy romance with elements of coziness as well as dark, twisted moments. The story was very versatile in how it was whimsical yet serious, I didn’t realize I was missing this mix in my reading life until this. I’m always quick to love the brooding MMC that’s actually soft and sweet underneath his armor - and Elden fits that perfectly. Avalon is your typical fiery, angsty lead, afraid of her emotions. I’m kind of tired of seeing this type of FMC and would appreciate someone who’s able to be open with their emotions, yet fierce when it comes to battles, either through words or physical blows. I really did enjoy reading this, and found the premise very unique. Imagine a bed and breakfast servicing humans and fae, the possible shenanigans alone made me excited to read this. I would love to see this turn into the type of series that follows different characters and their stories which each book, because everyone in this book was fascinating and lovable. Overall, this is a great read for cozy and dark, serious fantasy fans.

This was an amazing book - honestly. I enjoyed every second of it!
Everything you could ever want in a romantasy, it’ll was there. The romance, passion, fantasy, adventure, tension and a dash of hatred. All my trope girlies know what I’m talking about ;)

I also love that this is a standalone. It’s a nice pallet cleanser and a one of a kind story. It’s very unique. I think anyone would be pleased whether you’re just starting fantasy or a seasoned reader.
I just loved the characters and the sarcastic banter too. I need it in my actual life.

Thank you to Vermilion for letting me be a part of your ARC team an letting me read this book before the release for a review of my wildest dreams ❤️

Honestly, I wanted to like this book more than I did - I'm going to say 3.5 stars. There was a great story in there, and great world-building, but there were some issues that really hurt it for me.

It is an enemies-to-lovers story, but not a dark one - they're not hardcore enemies, they just have a bit of a rough start due to their personal baggage, as well as the FMC Avalon being a changeling. In this world, changelings are thought poorly of by everyone - to humans, they're basically illegal immigrants, and are immediately shipped back to the feylands (I'm using the spelling the book uses). To the feyrie (again, book spelling), they're tainted by all that human associations, and are generally killed or enslaved as soon as they return to the feylands. It puts Avalon in a precarious position. Elden is required by law to turn her in, but he knows if he does, he's basically killing her. So he decides to keep her on his land (he's a Warden - basically, the guard of one of the feyrie gates on Earth, making sure the only people who go through have been legally approved for passage) while he observes her to see if she's a spy/threat/etc (because a lot of changelings are - like they're put into human households to act on behalf of their feyrie family). He doesn't think she is, but as a Warden, he has to take responsibility. And she, of course, hates him for it - she's made a prisoner, for something that isn't her fault and she can't control. She didn't ask to be a changeling.

Though to be clear, "prisoner" is an overly hard word. He locks her in her room one night - the first night after she is discovered to be a changeling - so he can consult with a trusted advisor on what to do. He's a good guy, and he doesn't want to ruin her life. After than, he allows her to go about her life as usual, with the caveat that she can't tell anyone about any of this. All super fair, imo, but the FMC hates it, and him for doing it. She's under contract to help him whip his inn into shape, for 3 months, so it isn't like she was going anywhere, anyway (she's a consultant for a firm that helps people reorganize / remodel / etc their hotel), and he thinks he can make a decision in that time period. So it basically is a nothingburger.

All that is fine - she's allowed to be upset, as this is potentially going to upend her life in a terrifying way. And he didn't cross any lines.

The problem with this book is the co-dependent relationship between the FMC (Avalon) and her sister (Odele).

Avalon is the older sister, and the two of them have had an absolute shit life. Odele is a banshee (also a changeling, so no one knows), and regularly wakes up shrieking because she foresees a violent death. Avalon is a Seer, and she's dedicating her life to trying to keep her younger sister safe. Her visions prompt her awake just before Odele wakes up shrieking, for example, so she can try to quiet her or at least keep her from blindly running out into traffic (something she apparently did just before the start of the book).

Odele resents Avalon's protectiveness. Some of that is fair, as they're both adults. But let's be honest, this bitch literally just ran out into traffic and got mowed down just before the book starts, and they're buried under crippling medical debt as a result, so she clearly needs a keeper. I hated Odele pretty early in the book - they get to the inn they've been contracted to restore, in rural western Washington, and Odele immediately drops her sister like trash. Asks to be moved to a cabin far away from her sister (without talking to her sister about it first ... not that she needs permission, but can you maybe have a conversation like a fucking adult, so she doesn't feel blindsided?), and leaps into making friends and excluding Avalon, being a snipey bitch any time Avalon tries to talk to her. I can't overstate this enough: I pretty immediately hated Odele. Her sister had sacrificed her life to keep Odele safe, basically making Odele the center of her universe, and Odele shows her nothing but disdain.

And it gets worse from there. Stuff starts happening, the FMC and MMC start coming together, and Odele drops in like a wrecking ball, adamant that her sister not be with Elden (MMC). Throwing epic tantrums about it, making ultimatums, as if this asshole rules the world and must be obeyed. And the shit-cherry on top of this diarrhea-sundae is that Avalon obeys her.

Avalon is a goddamn spineless coward, who buckles to her sister's demands over and over, keeps shoving Elden away, keeps making brainless decisions. Over and over and over. By the 80% mark I didn't even want them together anymore, because there was no universe in which Avalon deserved Elden. He deserved so much better.

And that brings us to the worst part of all: Avalon doesn't even make an active decision to STAY with Elden at the end. They're leaving - bags are packed, Elden thinks she's yet again given in to Odele's ultimatum - and rather than talk about it, Avalon doesn't put her bags in the car. Odele notices and says good, because I've decided you have to stay, I can't deal with your lovesick shit. And Avalon THANKS HER, says she won't regret it. AS IF ANY OF THIS WAS ODELE'S CHOICE TO MAKE!!!

I think it is the most horrifically co-dependent relationship I've ever seen, and it utterly ruins Avalon as a character for me. I wanted her to get in that car and fuck off with her sister to die alone in a hovel somewhere.

You may be wondering why, after all of that, did I give it 3 stars? Well, I HATED those two characters, but the story was a good one. Not the romantic part, because fuck Avalon, she deserves nothing, but the story of Elden's family, the feyrie events, all of that. It was really good.

So that's my review. YMMV, but imo this book would have been way better if a new FMC swept in at like the 60% mark and Odele and Avalon got yeeted out to die in misery.

This was the comfort book I didn’t know I needed in between series! Thanks for the ARC, it arrived at the perfect time.

We meet sisters Avalon and Odele who are hiding and constantly working for a hotel consulting firm. When they get called to work for a hotel renovation in the Pacific Northwest, Avalon meets the serious Elden (and instantly hates him).

In the first half of the book, we meet the characters better and see the dynamic between Avalon and Elden. When Avalon discovers the big secret mound of the Feylands in the hotel grounds, she panics and revels her own secret. The second half of the book reveals the bigger plot and I have to say it surprised me by the amount of action there was. It was just the right amount of comfort and action in a book.

The Holiday epilogue was just perfect timing too, it was cozy and made me want to know more about this world. This is a standalone book in a new series. It will be available January 14th, 2024.

The Fey Hotel By Vermilion H. Baine
Release date January 14th, 2024
💜Enemies to lovers
💜Forced Proximity
💜Slow Burn
💜Witty Banter

This book had me racing to get to the end in the best way possible!!! Avalon and her sister are sent to help renovate and restore a run down inn. After meeting her new employer Avalon quickly learns that working together with Elden will not be what she expects. Both Elden and Avalon have secrets of their own, however they quickly learn to work together to help save the people they love. This romance is a slow burn and the witty banter has you smiling each time they interact. All of the characters are well written and you cant help but love them all, well besides Bane (we all hate Bane). This book is full of magic, adventure, and love. Now in terms of spice, there is a little bit of spice sprinkled into the book, and something that I loved is that even though we all love a spicy book, I adored how the story focused more on their actual love for each other instead of the lust for each other. Again I cannot stress enough how much I loved this book 5 stars for me hands down! A slow burn, he fall first, dual POV romance is exactly what I wanted and thats what we got!!!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

*ARC Review*

Thank you for trusting me with a ARC copy of the novel. I LOVED each second of it. If I had the time I'm 99% sure I would have read this in one second. I DEVOURED it.

I cannot and will not be able to recommend this book enough. It was SO perfectly laid out for readers like myself. I was always searching for a little pocket of time to read a page or two because I NEEDED more. The enemies to lovers, history of trauma, sisterly bonds, and world building we are beautiful!

If this book isn't on your TBR, you need to put it there ASAP and get reading Day 1. You won't be disappointed. I just want to add, that if you get attached to the book like I did, don't be surprised if you catch yourself screaming at the end...

Perfect 5/5 book. Will read over and over again.
2/5 for spice and it was the perfect amount for this book.

Give it a read, trust me.

The fae hotel by vermilion H. Baine. What a roller coaster.
This is a fantasy based on traditional fae of the seelie and unseelie courts. It has everything forced proximity, enemy to lovers, spice, Found family and where one truly belongs.
There is the love story, but also action and enough fantasy for anyone that loves these genres.
Overall, awesome read and cannot wait for the next in the series.

I was fortunate enough to receive this arc. The book did not disappoint. The cover was beautiful. The characters were great! I loved the storyline. Avalon and Odele are close sisters who are facing the world together. They are both going to be working on helping with a hotel. Odele will be doing the interiors and Avalon will help with the management.
Avalon and Elden both have such strong characteristics that working together on this hotel project is going to make them butt heads. He wasn’t the kindest character when Avalon had met him in the meeting to discuss the changes that were going to be made to help out with his hotel.
I really enjoyed seeing where each of these characters went within the story. The book was the perfect length. I really enjoyed Vermilion’s writing style. The way she put together the romantic fantasy, fey was so well put together. I really liked how Avalon and Elden’s characters slowly come together. The coziness of this whole book was simply wonderful.
I really look forward to more.

Happy release day!!

3.5 stars rounded up.

This book is so so cozy! The characters are fun and had me giggling, the setting is beautiful, and the relationship between sisters is heartwarming.

This book is for everyone who wants a cozy and lighthearted read, and would also be great for someone who is just getting into fantasy. It’s modern, but introduces the fantasy realm in an easy to digest manner with characters that keep you engaged.

Personally, I wish things would have moved a bit faster, but I absolutely think this book deserves to have its story be shared.

Read if interested in:
- slow burn romance
- light fantasy
- cozy vibes
- sister relationships

I was lucky enough to read this as an ARC - all thoughts are my own!

A light enemies to lovers fantasy romance, The Fey Hotel is already one of my top reads of the year. Ava and Odele are feyries who work with Elden to help his mother’s hotel get back to business. The hotel is a portal to the human world, with humans and fey living in harmony. I read this because for the fantasy aspect and I was not let down! I loved every single part of this story, it was fun and has some romance. Every chapter had me needing to know what happened to the characters. There are twists I wasn’t expecting and just adds to the plot. Highly recommend this just for the characters alone!

This is such a wonderful book! It’s an adventure mystery, romantic fantasy and magical realism all at the same time and in the best way!

The FMC is Avalon Golightly, and she is a sassy, sarcastic, outspoken, emotionally complex woman. Her younger sister Odele is a banshee and since their childhood, Avalon has been a constant support to Odele, often losing sleep and also suffering damage to her hearing due to nightmares her sister suffers from. Their parents are not fey, and their father is a politician, and keeping their fey heritage and abilities hidden has resulted in layers of shame.

The MMC is Elden Cavanaugh, and when we meet him, he’s a distant, secretive, brooding and grouchy hotel owner. He decides to look into hiring someone to help him with the mundane tasks of updating and managing it after inheriting it on his mother’s sudden passing. His POV is vital to understanding his motives, and I love that he falls first.

The world building is fantastically interwoven into the story, and the author deftly introduces just enough vital information early on in the book to really hook you. The mysterious elements just keep coming at you through the twists and turns, enticing the reader onwards. There’s more to everyone’s backstory that you think. The story is convoluted and multilayered, and there are fights, portal magic, mythical creatures, dangerous quests, protector, hurt/comfort, family betrayal, so many secrets, hidden identities, a murder and coverup, and with everyone at the inn, forced proximity is a constant.

This is very much a slow-burn, hesitant to open up, emotional kind of love story. Aspects of fantasy, mystery, and adventure take a front seat and the romance and spice are interspersed in the overall story. The banter between the main characters is fantastic throughout.

I really enjoyed this book and think anyone who enjoys enemies to lovers slow burn fantasy will too!

A lovely fantasy romance that has twists, a slow burn and intense enemy to lover / grumpy romance, and lots of adventure and drama.
It has great banter and sarcasm, a range of intriguing characters and great pacing.
The revelation of hidden identities
/ powers added to the unique plot and the concept of the hotel, family dysfunctions, sisterly bonds and dire stakes.
I also liked the range of magical beings included in the adventures and the references to mythology.
An enjoyable standalone Fae romantasy.

4.5

I actually read the second standalone book of this series first and loved it so much that I jumped into this one right away!

The vibe of both book are so different that it threw my off at first! It’s not a bad thing though it just mean the author doesn’t rehash the same tropes, nor the same characters. Both story are totally unique.

This one has a bit more of a cozy vibe, with a romance reminiscent of what we sometime find in contemporary romance but with fae and court intrigue in which our protagonists get dragged into to their great displease!

Read it if you like…

I wanted this to be more cozy than it actually felt, with a plot that focused more on the political machinations of the Fey. I was looking for Legends and Lattes, but with an inn instead of a coffee shop. I did not get that, but by the end, I did love all characters, which gave me a cozy feeling, and I would read more with this same cast again.

If I started writing an in depth review of this book, I’d be here all day - I loved this! Start to finish and every time I read it, it just gets better!
I’m someone who is a big fan of dramatic bloodshed and gore-y fantasy with a lot of explicit smut - when I tell you this book is a favourite of mine WITHOUT that^ you know it’s gonna be a quality read. There were definitely elements of this book that fit my regular bill but without the intensity I normally read
It’s cosy and is such a well rounded storyline, the romance is sweet and had me blushing and laughing and feeling all kinds of giddy. I think the split between romance and fantasy has been done really well
I cannot stress enough JUST HOW BADLY I WANT TO READ MORE OF VERMILION’S WORK 🙌🏻
Highly recommend - will forever highly recommend - I loved it

As someone who doesn’t read a ton of fantasy, this was perfect for me. The Fey Hotel takes place in both the mortal world, at the Refuge on the Moor, a failing inn on the coast of Washington, as well as in the fey world. Avalon and her sister are sent to the hotel to help the grumpy innkeeper, Elden, to bring the hotel back to its former glory. Avalon and Elden immediately bump heads and their banter is everything. Familial betrayal, lies, slow burn, and forced proximity tie this wonderful book together.
What I really loved about this book was it felt like the perfect blend of a cozy Romantasy (it gave me The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy vibes) but also SO much action! I can’t tell you how many times I literally gasped out loud. Hob is everything and I would burn the world for him. Highly recommend checking this one out!

I absolutely loved this book. It had everything I want in a good story, fantasy or otherwise: forced proximity, handsome guys, great banter between people that would rather be anywhere else, ugh so good!! What sold this to me was the description of “fantasy meets Gilmore girls” and nothing could’ve been truer! I loved getting to learn more about Avalon and Odele, all of the characters we meet along the way and the addition of fae just makes it’s so great!
