C. J. R. Isely is an American author primarily known for her medieval fantasy novels. She has a lifelong passion for fantasy, medieval history, horses, and adventure.

She began writing at a very young age, with her first full-length novel, "Ranger of Kings," being written when she was just 12 years old. This book became the first in her "William of Alamore" series, which ultimately comprised six books that she penned during her middle and high school years.

Although she initially set her novels aside to pursue a business degree, she later decided to revise and release them. "Ranger of Kings" was published in 2020, and she has since released the full "William of Alamore" series, with the final book, "Blood of the Crown," released in 2024. She has also written standalone spin-off novels set in the World of Alamore, such as "The Falcon and The Stag" and "Shadow of the Sword."

When not writing, C. J. R. Isely lives on a ranch in Kansas where she enjoys riding and training horses, playing guitar, and taking on DIY construction projects

I have the good fortune to be a Beta Reader for this novel, and while all of the edits are not yet complete, this is a review of the versions of this book that I have completed.

Tyrant of Traitors is another great story in the saga of William of Alamore and his fellow squires as they continue to find trouble, usually in some deadly form or other.

If you have read any of the previous books in this series, you will love this, one as well, and if you have not, I would urge you to read them, starting with "Ranger of Kings". They are great fun with deep, believeable characters, an intriguing plot, and lots of exciting and bone-chilling action.

Ms. Isely is a master of her craft and this work is just the latest example of that.

A definite 5! This book is even better than the first 4. It has danger, intrigue, humor, and a little romance. You are drawn to the characters and their stories as well as being drawn by the main storyline. C.J.R. Isely is a fantastic storyteller. I feel privileged to have been a beta reader for this book.

When I read a book I put them in a category of either OK, Good, or Excellent. This one falls in the excellent category. This author sucks you into the book and characters both mentally and emotionally. You become so invested in the characters that when they are in danger your heart races and you feel what they must feel. When the characters are happy and sad you feel the same way. You might even feel a few tears in your eyes. You get excited to see how they get out of sticky situations, you share in the friendships they have and laugh out loud at the humor in the story. The author is so good at making you feel like you are one of the companions sharing their adventures. There is only one real beef I have with this author and that is that I have to wait until November to read book 5 of the series. :-) I highly recommend this book and the whole series. Well done Will, Colin and Rowan (main characters in the books)

Tyrant of Traitors (William of Alamore Series Book 5), my seventh read from author C.J.R. Isely. The tough thing about this series is 7 books spanning over 2400 pages read over a 2-year span makes it hard to stay on top of all the fine details that Isley has written into the tale. When I want to read epic fantasy I first look for author Christopher Mitchell and C.J.R. Isely. Amazon has this book ranked #21 in Teen & Young Adult Arthurian eBooks, #123 in Teen & Young Adult Sword & Sorcery Fantasy eBooks, and #156 in Teen & Young Adult Wizards & Witches Fantasy. None of which accurately fit this series, oh well, it has to go somewhere. “I received a Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I look forward to reading more from this author, with Blood of the Crown (William of Alamore Series Book 6) scheduled to be published in November of this year. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Tyrants and Traitors use Ego and Greed to Command Power and People

Will and Rowan along with friends battle to help Colin win the battle for control of his inheritance lands that his father had ruled so well. As the situations and battles develop, Each squire with royal claims helps the others begin to resolve the problems of stolen power and greed. But the battle is just beginning while they mature into great leaders and resolve to make things better for the people that they serve instead of themselves.

great series!

Love this series! Great coming of age story that has a good amount of levity while fighting a war against tyranny.

It isn’t a new concept, but it’s pulled off well in this series. The characters are interesting, and showing good growth. There’s some interesting moral dilemmas as well.

Looking forward to the next one- and I hope it isn’t the last!

Absolutely loving this series!! Each book builds on the last and develops the characters more and more. This book kept me on the edge of my seat with the twists and turns. Probably more so than all the others. Totally recommend this series! I will be following this author and reading all her other books as well!

This story takes the series to a new level!

Excellent book. Well developed storylines with huge obstacles the main players have to contend with. The first and second half of the book almost felt like two good books. The middle transition got a little slow, but it picked up big time in the second half. Looking forward to the next book in the series!

Wow this is book 5 of this series and you will not be disappointed. Colin and his friends go back to Lonnac but not without overcoming obstacles. When they arrive, something seems off with Carnel which is the Stewart of Lonnac until Colin finishes up what needs to be done in Alamore. Carnel isn't to happy with some of Colin's friends but, one of them is noticing things don't add up. Wars coming and all their lives are endangered. Friends will be made, and some will be lost. I received a beta copy of this book, and I couldn't wait till the next chapter was available. This whole series is amazing but with this book Ms. Isley out did herself. Looking forward to the next in the series and see where it goes.
