Diane Watson is an award-winning, distinguished financial advisor, entrepreneur, and the passionate founder of 'She Can Prosper.'
With an unshakable belief in empowering women to achieve financial independence, Diane has dedicated her career to guiding individuals towards a secure and prosperous future.
Like most people, Diane has faced significant obstacles in life. She wasn’t born into a wealthy family and had very little money when she left university. But through the financial lessons her mother had shared with her, she was driven to achieve as much as possible. Diane has taken big but educated risks, from house relocations to setting up her first business. Her view is that you can afford to take risks if you stay informed and remain continually aware of what’s going on around you.
Through her work as a financial advisor, she witnessed far too many women abdicating responsibility for their finances to their partners.
The realisation was that women who did not take control of their finances were being left vulnerable and potentially severely impacted later in life. Their lack of knowledge or input into shaping their financial future was the catalyst to write this book.
Following an easy-to-read step-by-step process, this book explores -What does prosperity mean today? The life stages of prosperity and how to plan your financial future. Diane Watson’s non fiction book, ‘She can Prosper’ says it is “unlocking financial independence and empowering women to thrive.”
It covers a wide range of financial topics to provide women from all backgrounds with sound knowledge, how to guides and general support to take control of their finances and ensure a prosperous future for them and their families. I like to think of it as a good financial advice book for life in general. And the over arching message is if you haven’t already put plans in place, START NOW!
She adeptly illustrates how important financial education is through her use of relatable case studies and stories from women in all walks and stages of life who have made sound financial decisions, or the opposite!
If I am being absolutely honest, this is not a book I would ordinarily want to pick up and read - feeling it to be a bit of a dry and boring topic. Besides, I have been around a block or two, have been doing this adulting lark for ages and am lucky to have been on the property ladder for a while now, bringing up our growing family - so I thought I had everything covered. How wrong I was!
On initial inspection, the title was intriguing (especially the use of the word “Prosper” and the colourful book cover design drew me in. Diane Watson managed to keep me engaged with her well laid out chapters; her direct, to the point, no nonsense style of writing; and her things to consider, note or do at the end of each chapter.
The colour to the overall financial black & white picture was brought by the case studies and stories from real women’s experiences on each topic she covers, from pensions, to budgeting, to critical illness cover. (Not a sentence I ever envisaged myself writing!!) With a financial checklist to keep on top of your financial life and a fantastic resources section at the end of the book, it’s a gift that keeps on giving for whatever stage you are at in life.
I genuinely enjoyed this book and it has reminded me to follow up on several important life admin tasks I have been putting off - like reviewing my will, sorting out lasting power of attorney with my partner, and checking I know where all those pensions are from the numerous jobs I had in my 20s & 30s!
Basically this book has kicked my backside into action on some important life and financial stuff that just needs to get done. Sometimes we all need a reminder for that. Thanks Diane. And thanks to the team at Literally PR for inviting me to be part of the online book tour. @literallypr #shecanprosper
She Can Prosper is a non-fiction literary work focussing on attaining financial security as a woman. Authored by an experienced financial planner who has not only worked in this field for many years but was brought up in it, both her parents were financial advisors, so you can say she knows what she is talking about.
There are a lot of new books on finance out at the moment but this isn’t a book about how to save money by shopping at Aldi instead of Tesco or selling your old items to make some extra cash. This is a financial book that covers topics such as pensions, insurance, tax, wills, pre-nuptial agreements, financial abuse, income protection, debt, mortgages, and much more. It revolves around one main theme – Prosperity ‘The condition of being successful or thriving. especially :economic well-being.‘
The book is organised into seven sections:-
-What is Prosperity -The Four Steps to Building Prosperity -Protecting Your Prosperity -Your Money and Your Relationships -Business Finance -Creating A Prosperous Mindset -You Can Prosper.
Each section then has subsections. I love how the author explains what you should be looking out for financially at different stages in your life and has included real-life stories. I also found the incorporation of thought-provoking questions accompanied by space for personal reflections at the back of each section a great asset.
She Can Prosper is written in an easy-to-understand manner. It is engaging, accessible, and interesting, not something I ever thought I would write about a finance book. It includes many subjects and will leave you feeling more financially confident and with the tools and hopefully, the mindset to do something about your finances.
As the reader progresses through various life phases they will want to keep this book on hand and read it over and over again as they age and their financial life changes.
I have to admit I do not know a lot when it comes to finance, a fact very much driven home when sorting out our last mortgage where I felt very overwhelmed by the information thrown at me. So when this book was brought to my attention I just knew I needed to get hold of a copy. And whilst it is aimed at women both myself and my husband have found it useful because we will happily admit that we didn't think about at least half the things listed in some of the decade breakdowns, it's just not something we were taught at school, which I think is wrong it definitely should be on the curriculum. I found the book was written in a really easy-to-understand, user-friendly format, I never once sat back and thought "I have no idea what she is talking about" and it has given me so much information and confidence with my finances. I've read through the book from cover to cover and I'm now planning on going back and looking at specific chapters/areas that I want to work on and taking the time to sit with the book and my finances in front of me. It's given myself and my husband a list of things we really need to look at and sort out that we never really thought about much until I read Diane's list and it has given me a really useful tool for teaching our small ones financial skills that are really important life skills to have. This book is never leaving my bookshelf but I will be recommending it to everyone.
Ladies, let’s all set ourselves up for a prosperous future!
This book has so helpfully articulated what I need to prioritise going forward if I want to be in a sound financial position when I’m older.
Diane has filled this book with her extensive knowledge and practical tips to start planning ahead. I love the checklists based on age and have started some actions based on these. These lists were so helpful I found myself sharing these tips with my younger sister and mum so they could check in on their position and consider what they need to prioritise.
I’ve read this cover to cover and found it really easy to read and digest but will keep this on my shelf to refer back to so I can check I am on track.
I found the different case studies really helpful in demonstrating sound (and not so sound) financial decisions that helped me to apply some of this advice to my circumstances more.
The resources page is also incredibly useful and I fully intend to research more on some of the topics included such as investing.
Overall, I’d really recommend people give this a read.

How often do you think about your financial wellness?
Thank you to Literally PR for my copy of this fantastic and highly informative book on finance, written by a woman for women.
In recent years, I’ve become far more interested in financial planning and have read a few books on the subject but this has been my favourite to date.
Including real stories from women, sections divided by age ranges and no nonsense advice on everything from family dynamics and relationship breakdowns to investing and starting a business, this book is a fantastic all round and easy to read financial wellness book.
I highly recommend to this to women of all ages but if I’d had this when I was in my twenties, I might have made some very different financial decisions! I’ll absolutely be working my way towards the milestones advised for my thirties and beyond!
This is incredibly helpful! Will recommend to the young women I know. Possibly tries to cover quite a lot of business tax detail as well as personal matters but gives really good advice to women about their financial affairs.
